Reviews for Guesthouse Sunna
Review 1:we could not access wifi when we checked in. informed the staff and requested again and again over the next 2 days but nothing was done. also informed them on the second day that we could not access the tv channel to watch the new year's eve programme. again nothing was done. so in the end we could do neither during our 2 night stay there. very disappointing.
Review 2:the location
Review 3:Breakfast wasn't my cup of tea but there was a lot to offer. I didn't mind though. Very typical for a European breakfast.
Review 4:Perfect location. The view of the church was great and easy walk to the major street of shops and restaurants.
Review 5:En-suite bathroom a little small. Rooms not soundproof, able to hear talking, doors slamming and loud footsteps along the corridor (though that might reflect more on my neighbours than the guesthouse)
Review 6:Clean and comfortable rooms. Good breakfast provided. Short walk to cafes and shops. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 7:Maintenance of street and car park was zero even if there was lots of snow - I don't think it is very good company policy that paying customers must start shoveling snow in order to get out on to the street...
Review 8:Location is excellent, breakfast very nice and the atmosphere in the breakfast room was very Christmas like, the room clean and comfortable
Review 9:This place was great! They let us check in a little early, had free parking and a very satisfying breakfast with lots of variety! We like that is was not in a noisy location.
Review 10:Good selection of food at breakfast & helpful receptionists when booking/rebooking trips & transfers. Free Wifi in room & breakfast area
Review 11:The bedding could be bigger. My husband is tall. Quilt is quite small. Not a great view. Looked into the back to the tops of other buildings.
Review 12:The breakfast and breakfast room were excellent. Pretty quiet. The location is great.
Review 13:This was my 3rd trip to Iceland. Each time I stay in this guesthouse. It is just across the famous church and not far away from the main shopping street with shops and restaurants. I strongly recommend it.
Review 14:The location is great, near to the cathedral and in walking distance of the downtown. The breakfast is good and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 15:Sunna Guesthouse is an excellent choice if you plan on staying in Reykjavik and travelling around Iceland. The location in the city is excellent - with a view of Hallsgrimkirkja right behind it. The BSI bus station is 10 minute walk downhill - perfect for getting the bus to the airport, Blue Lagoon, coach trips etc. Each floor in the guesthouse has a little communal kitchen that's shared by all rooms on the floor, with stove, fridge, kettle, table and chairs and TV. Reykjavik is really expensive so this helped us keep our costs down meaning we could use the money we saved on going on trips. There's a little supermarket around the corner open until 11.30pm where we got spaghetti and pasta sauce to make dinner. Breakfast was included in the price of our stay which was an absolute lifesaver for us. It meant we didn't have to buy three meals a day and could fill up for the day ahead from the buffet breakfast! The choices are a little limited, but there's enough to fill you up. Choices include cereal, toast, cheese, meat, jam, juices, coffee etc. Staff are really friendly and helpful too. We had booked to go on the Northern Lights tour and the receptionist looked up the weather forecast for us and found out if the trip was still going ahead without us having to walk back down to the bus station. On our final day our flight wasn't until later in the evening so they let us keep our suitcase at the guesthouse free of charge, even though we had already checked out. This is a great budget choice for those who don't care about luxury and don't mind a shared bathroom. Great for travellers, young couples and people who just want a comfy bed to rest their head after walking all day!
Review 16:Having to leave!
Review 17:Feeling of home. The guesthouse is personal that gives you a sense of Icelandic community. Loki cafe is next door for dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse is delicious with their hade bread.
Review 18:Rooms were small, but really all you needed.
Review 19:The rooms were basic but all you needed. Clean room & bathroom. The staff were lovely and all spoke English. Breakfast was fantastic and had good options.
Review 20:Small beds and sensor driven lights in bath which switch off while you are in the shower.
Review 21:Location.... Right opposite the famous church and 5 mins from the town centre and major shopping streets. Decent breakfast and sufficient space to park your car.
Review 22:I find the location very convenient, close to all the shops and restaurants! The rooms are clean, wifi was good and breakfast was lovely. It has everything you will need. Service was good, staff were very kind and friendly. I left my belongings unfortunately and they were kind enough to return it to me by post. Thank you for the lovely stay. I will definitely stay with Sunna whenever I'm in Reykjavik.
Review 23:I could book a single room, at a single room rate. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable and had all the facilities I needed. The staff in the 24 hour reception were very polite, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast was good. The location is extremely central.
Review 24:The price for a solo room was a bit high, but understandable considering the location
Review 25:The locations was great the rooms were comfy and clean The staff was extremely nice and helped with every question/problem that arouse
Review 26:Nothing at all really Shared bathroom, but was exceptionally clean
Review 27:Cleanliness Warm room Decent breakfast Takeaway coffee cup provided for bus to airport :) Location Stayed for the final night of a 4 night stay in Reykjavik. Absolutely superb location, 5 mins from main shopping street and right across from the Hallgrímskirkja church. I had a great view of it from my bedroom. Exceptionally clean guesthouse, pleasant staff on arrival. Room was warm and very clean. Basic but perfect for anyone on a city break there. Shared bathroom and shower, but again very clean. Decent breakfast available on the morning I left, I left very early so was only able to get something small, but nice to get a takeaway coffee for the bus to the airport.
Review 28:No bad experiences whatsoever!
Review 29:I liked the fact that I was remembered from previous visit and all my requests had been met even before I checked in. Although my room had no ensuite bathroom, the rooms are arranged in such a way that communal showers and toilets are easily accessible to a small group of three or so bedrooms. And these communal facilities are super clean. There is also a kitchen available on each floor. The Sunna is in a lovely location. This was my third stay and I will happily book again. It is fanatastic value.
Review 30:It was a bit cold at night. I kept changing the thermastate trying to get a comfortable temperature
Review 31:Sunna had a great location- able to walk downtown and to the central bus terminal. Having the Hallgrimskirkja right across made it a perfect beacon anywhere in the city. Staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Kitchen set-up was perfect for cooking your own meals
Review 32:Nothing!
Review 33:Very good prices in the winter. Helpful staff who listen to special requests and have everything ready and waiting for you. I have stayed three times snd the place is always super clean and quiet. Thank you. Sunna
Review 34:Having to leave Iceland, we love this country!
Review 35:Great location, near Hallgrimskirkja church, one of the landmarks of Reykjavik. Very helpful and friendly staff, the whole building was spotlessly clean and the value for money of our studio was great. Breakfast was great to get you going through the day. Hotel is next to all the main shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. You can also walk (6min) to Reykjavik's first indoor pool/baths named Sundhollin, they're just behind the church area and reminded us of a small version of the ones in Budapest :)
Review 36:You share the bathroom with 3 other rooms but the place was not busy when we went so it was ok. I guess it can be more problematiic when crowded. But the bathrooms are never far from the rooms and not for a whole floor
Review 37:Good service, perfectt cleanliness, good buffet breakfast. It is expensive but everything is in the country.
Review 38:Guesthouse Hanna is located on the corner of the plaza where Hallgrímskirkja Church is located, and a short walk into the centre of town. The staff were super friendly and the breakfast surprisingly good for a well priced room. Facilities are excellent, nice social TV and kitchen areas. Very clean. Highly recommended.
Review 39:Nothing. This is an excellent spot
Review 40:I travelled alone and would highly rate guesthouse Sunna. The location is superb, it was warm, clean, safe and secure. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was superb.
Review 41:A good starting point to roaming the city by walking. Reykjavik is truly a walkable city. The landmark of Reykjavik "the space shuttle church" is just 100m from the hotel. Travelers can even join worship at the church on sundays. Quite a convenient place to stay.
Review 42:the one fault was whilst waiting for a tour to pick us up, it was getting quite late so we popped into reception to enquire - the girl was so rude and unhelpful and said it would there in a minute. 20minutes later another of my party went in to re ask only for her to moan about picking up the phone, then spotted on her email that the tour company had cancelled first thing and informed us all we could do us walked the 20minutes down to the bus station to get a refund. This was a complete waste of time as you had to get your refund online. Shame really because all the other staff at the guesthouse went out of there way. It was just this one girl who needed a bit of training in customer service
Review 43:the guesthouse was lovely. No faults, clean room, clean bathroom and great breakfast. Just outside the main church that you can see all over the city. Location was fantastic. Would definitely reccomend. And go back :)
Review 44:Nothing.
Review 45:open 24h. warm. friendly . includes excellent breakfast. good beds. Kitchen and dining and wc and 2 showers shared with only 2 other rooms. amazing location. free parking. good showers. very clean.great price.
Review 46:The breakfast could be later. It finished too early - before it was even daylight. 10.30am is a better time to finish, rather than 9.30am, especially at the weekend.
Review 47:The location of the hotel is excellent. It is so quiet but central. The centre of Reykjavik can be very noisy later. Prices in Iceland are a great surprise to UK travellers. They are around city centre prices, so acceptable. The hotel allowed us to stay in our room until later because our flight was so late.
Review 48:Heat is not so strong, but I think it's ok for most of people.
Review 49:Great location, lots of attractions are just in walk distance. Room is ok and is not so pricey here in central Reykjavik.
Review 50:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast for free. And thank you so much for the spontaneously homemade free waffles as we needed to wait out the blizzard! :-) We will definitely stay at Sunna's again when we come back to Iceland.
Review 51:The only grouses that I have was that the bathroom was a little small and the water temperature was difficult to control, at times running slightly too hot. Also, the breakfast selection might be seen by some as too simple but it was fairly adequate. Lastly, there are no lifts in the building so those with heavy luggage have to be aware and especially as the guesthouse was located on the hill, it might not be that convenient for the elderly.
Review 52:The location was very centrally located and is next to Hallgrimskirkja Church which is a very good landmark for us to find our way back to the guesthouse. In addition, the bedroom was spacious and the beds were really comfortable with duvet provided. In addition, there was also a heater in the room and it was very comfortable even during winter. We had to leave on the last day early in the morning for our flight and the guesthouse takes in requests for early breakfast and prepared a light breakfast for us to take at 4 a.m. On the level that we were staying at, there was a balcony and also a kitchen for us to prepare simple meals. Staff were also very friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful. Most of the day tours offer pickup service from the guesthouse. Overall, was an excellent stay.
Review 53:Brilliant location for reykjavik centre and main streets. lovely breakfasts to start your day and very friendly and helpful staff for local advice and info. The view of the church from room 204 was breathtaking
Review 54:Our flight got in very early the day of our arrival and they were able to accommodate us, since there was an open room, at no extra charge. Location was excellent in the center city and the breakfast was plentiful. The staff was very helpful and pleasant.
Review 55:My room was super close to the kitchenette with just a small space and sometimes people were preparing food and had to move so that I can open my door and go into my room. I can hear everything they say too with my door closed. For the rate I paid per night, it was well worth to put up with small inconveniences.
Review 56:Room and hotel was spotless, plenty of choices for breakfast. Hotel is very cosy, staff was amazingly patient. I came down at 5.30am for my last morning and I had breakfast waiting for me because you can reserve an early breakfast if you have to leave for an early flight. There was a kitchenette right outside my room door with a microwave oven, 2 hot plates, full utensils and cutlery so you can self-cater. Even though there was only one toilet/bathroom to be shared among some rooms, I never had to wait long. The location is easy, 650m from where I had dinner on the main street in the town and close to the shopping and action.
Review 57:The staff was friendly even we arrived late at 1:30 am. Room is clean with good heater, and breakfast is easy but enough. The location is good just next to the big church.
Review 58:Bathroom could've benefited from a deep clean to scrub off moldaround the shower area, but general cleanliness was ok since it wascleaned every day.
Review 59:Located a few minutes from shops and restaurants and with view of churchfrom some rooms. Extensive breakfast buffet and access to shared kitchenfacilities. 24-Hour friendly and helpful reception.
Review 60:The guesthouse was simply amazing. Where to start? The location was perfect. Middle of town, just a few minutes away from the main street, restaurants, bars, shops, etc. The room was great, we even had a balcony, which was lovely. There's a little shared kitchen which comes in handy in super expensive Iceland. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great. All in all we were extremely happy with our choice and can't wait to come back!
Review 61:The bed duvets were a bit short so your feet got chilly unless you curled into a ball. The coffee, like most places in Iceland, was instant (yech). And the kitchen could use better ventilation so other people's cooking smells didn't permeate your room and clothes. Nice to have the kitchen option but like any shared accommodation there are pros and cons.
Review 62:We had a room with bath. Awesome location with easy access by car and yet walkable to the centre of town, free parking, good breakfast and helpful staff. Availability of kitchen to heat up a meal or make tea was nice. Everything was very clean (though not new)
Review 63:Room was a bit of a tight squeeze for 2 with 2 large suitcases and the head of the bed was against the radiator.
Review 64:Great value for money within walking distance of all the action in Reykjavik. Room was clean, if a little basic, had a sink in it but shared bathroom was next door, great shower and very hot. Small kitchen area with TV and table and chairs just down the corridor.
Review 65:Had a rain shower head in the room which didn't work. Tried to use the secondary shower had but that was also not attached properly.
Review 66:The location, staff attentiveness and balcony!
Review 67:We only stayed for 2 nights just wish we could have stayed longer!
Review 68:This hotel was excellent value for money. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and had the best duvet I have ever slept under! The breakfast was ample and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a great value place to rest your head after a long day exploring Iceland.
Review 69:Unfortunately the weather wasn't great during our stay and they didn't have a drying room that we were aware of so each night our radiator was covered in wet clothes!
Review 70:A really central location. You can easily walk to all the main sites and restaurants from the hotel. It was also clean and spacious - I hate it when your suitcase fills up all the spare space in the room but this was not the case.
Review 71:found mildew around the edges of windows and ceiling. Spoke to cleaning staff to get rid of it which they did. Only problem, otherwise great hotel
Review 72:Great location near shopping and church. Only 10minute walk to bus station and harbour. Good breakfast serving tea coffee, juices. Hams, cheeses, cereals, cookies and fruit salads. Very nice staff
Review 73:Location, near to cathedral and restaurants. They stored our bags for a few hours after we checked out. Hotel booked the airport bus direct for us. Great information leaflets in reception. Breakfast was good.
Review 74:Nothing
Review 75:Being able to lie in bed and still see the Hallgrimskirkja church steeple. Overall location very convenient for city centre as well as BSI bus terminal.
Review 76:Kitchen facilities were somewhat limited in the Studios. Having said that in some other rooms that we also stayed with a bigger group the kitchen was much better and fitted for our purposes - with even 7 people!
Review 77:Location for a visit in Reykjavik could not have been better - very convenient in the vicinity of the shops, cathedral and the restaurants and cafes. Easy to reach from the highway.
Review 78:A very minor quibble was that we didn't have a 'Do not disturb' sign to hang on the door, which meant that when we were out for the day, staff would come in and tidy and make our beds etc. While some people will obviously like this, we preferred the idea of taking care of cleaning the room during our stay ourselves! I'm sure if we asked at reception we could have resolved this, so it's barely worth complaining about, but might be something to be aware of. The WiFi reception wasn't great in our room, but worked fine downstairs. All in all, Sunna Guesthouse is highly recommended and great value for money, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on a return trip to Reykjavík.
Review 79:Sunna Guesthouse was warm and inviting from the start. Although we arrived an hour early before check-in time, our room was ready for us. There is always someone on reception and they are very friendly. A fantastic buffet breakfast is included in the price, and can be a great start to a long day of tours, especially considering the cost of eating out in Reykjavík. The room was basic but perfect for the price, and included a wash basin. The communal shower and bathroom is always very clean. The communal kitchen facilities are adequate, and we availed of them a couple of times, again to save money on eating out. The location couldn't be better and is located a short 10 minute walk from the main BSÍ bus station. We particularly enjoyed meeting the neighbourhood cats on our way to and from the guesthouse! They kindly let us use their baggage storage facilities after check-out on the last day, as we had a few hours to kill before our bus.
Review 80:Sunna guesthouse is amazingly central located with a view of the Hallgrímskirkja. The accomodation is very cosy with kitchen and sitting area shared by a few rooms. I will definately stay at Sunna Guesthouse next time I visit Reykjavík.
Review 81:Was a on the third floor so was hard to get upstairs with suitcases.
Review 82:Had a shared bath which was also very clean. Hotel is very close to downtown and has a wonderful breakfast.
Review 83:More pillows on the bed would be nice.
Review 84:Great location close to Hallgrimskirkja. If you get lost, just head towards the big church. Nice selection of breakfast items in the breakfast room for the daily buffet. Quiet location, away from the loud bars. Walking distance to everything.
Review 85:The location was really good, I can see the church from my room. The staff are very friendly. The hotel is really clean, I was quite impressed. Would highly recommend this place to stay.
Review 86:There is no elevator and the laundry room left a lot to be desired. Ithink my clothes smelled worse after washing, the machine is just old.My bathroom could have had a cleaner shower.
Review 87:The location was excellent and the price of the room was reallyoutstanding. Loved the smell of freshly baking bread in afternoon andthe sound of the cathedral bells ringing. The view out my window of thecathedral square and the museum sculpture garden was charming.
Review 88:Flat pillows, doors were a bit noisy when guests were coming and going at night
Review 89:Breakfast, Location, Helpful staff, Grocery store and restaurants nearby
Review 90:Sometimes annoying to share a bathroom with other people. But it was fine.
Review 91:The staff were friendly and helpful. Place was clean and quiet. Stayed at the beginning of out trip and rebooked at the end as well.
Review 92:- No elevator, so if you get a 3rd floor room, climbing up with lots of luggage will be a challenge - Radiator heating - No fan, just two tiny windows. Room ended up feeling stuffy sometimes - 4 rooms share one bathroom (separate rooms for toilet and shower), can be challenging to coordinate with other room occupants when all tours begin at about the same time
Review 93:- Great location, literally across from the church - Comprehensive breakfast with good coffee - Room has a sink, which helps since the bathrooms are not en suite - Clean shared bathrooms - New towels/linens daily - Laundry facility on premises (confusing coin system though, but I figured it out) - Very helpful staff - Items not included in the room are available for loan or rent (i.e. hair dryers etc) - A lot of the tour companies know 'Guesthouse Sunna' by name. It helps! - Yummy pizzeria on the adjoining street
Review 94:1) The location. You can see Hallgrimskirkja from your window, and the church itself is 1 minute walk away. The hot spring public pool is just behind the church and is pretty cheap. 2) Cleanliness and warmness. I had a very good night sleep. 3) Personnel is very helpful and kind. 4) The shared kitchen has everything isf you want to cook yourself. 5) 10 minutes walk to most of central tourist attractions and shops.
Review 95:Small bathroom and shower, not enough parking for all guests at the hotel (there is overflow parking a short distance away at the church).
Review 96:Location was excellent, easy walking distance to downtown Reykjavik and many restaurants. Clean rooms and common areas, generally very quiet, our room came with a small kitchen to enable staying home for some meals, if desired (although we didn't).
Review 97:Sunna Guesthouse was located right near everything - Hallgrims Church, shopping, restaurants, etc. The rooms were small but comfortable. The breakfast each morning (which was included) was absolutely fabulous. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved everything about Sunna, and when we return to Iceland, we will definitely stay there again!
Review 98:Wifi didn't really work in the room. This is basically a small hotel, not really a guesthouse, so you don't get the warm welcome you typically find at a true guesthouse.
Review 99:Excellent location! Included breakfast was good and a nice perk. Every 4 rooms get their own bathroom and common kitchen areas.Free parking.
Review 100:Great location, helpful staff, clean and affordable
Review 101:Small room
Review 102:Breakfast. Location
Review 103:calm, clean, excellent location, nice view.
Review 104:The bed was comfy, location was perfect ! Just far enough away from the restaurants and shops to make it more peaceful.
Review 105:great view and delicious breakfast
Review 106:Clean, friendly, comfortable, good breakfast, hot shower, reliable wifi.
Review 107:Rooms and bathrooms were very small.
Review 108:Location was perfect
Review 109:The room was quite cold, I had to use the duvets from both beds to get warm
Review 110:Great location, good breakfast
Review 111:Bathroom drains had a bad smell
Review 112:Location, nice comfortable rooms, great breakfast, clean
Review 113:Quiet and convenient location
Review 114:Easy walk to town, far enough away to avoid noise from town Center bars, etc.
Review 115:Bathroom is a bit small.
Review 116:Good location.Comfy room with balcony
Review 117:The room and facilities were spotless.
Review 118:No frills accommodation. Breakfast was great and staff were very helpful.
Review 119:Located in downtown Rekjavik, very close to Hallgrimskirkja, and very quiet at the same time.
Review 120:Great location by the Hallsgrimkirkja church and about 20 minutes walk into the hub of town
Review 121:The staff whose duty is during night is not helpful. The day time one is much better.
Review 122:Location, facilities and breakfast are very good
