Reviews for Icelandair Hotel Vík
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:Lovely hotel with very helpful staff. They will even give you a wake up call in the middle of the night (if requested) to tell you if the northern lights are on display. Nice sized rooms and we had an ocean view. Decent breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
Review 3:The rooms were very warm and well fitted out for a comfortable stay. The bathroom was lovely. It was in a good location, close to the black sand beach and there are several nice restaurants within walking distance. This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at while on our trip of Iceland.
Review 4:the friendly and welcoming staff, very good food, the only hotel that open till late night, gas station is on the opposite of the street, very good choice for travelers who drive
Review 5:For something in the middle of nowhere - it would be great if they had option to buy snacks etc. or at least have a vending machine. Late night we wanted a snack and the staff was no help at all - in the morning we discovered they have a soda stash behind the counter which you could buy from that they didn't even tell us about.
Review 6:Breakfast selection was excellent
Review 7:Rainshower-style shower head was pretty useless (water pouring everywhere), disappointing for a 2-year old hotel. Was better when I stayed just after it opened!
Review 8:Beautiful hotel with lovely design in the rooms. Friendly staff, tasty food in restaurant (if a little salty). Comfy and warm, good wifi. Actually provided toiletries (unlike most Icelandic hotels & guesthouses). Had room at front so could see stacks, but also petrol station - last time I was at back overlooking bird cliff, which was better! (ie don't pay extra for the view, especially if you're there only in the dark).
Review 9:very kind staff..personal an professional..nice up to modern standards and special with the all over glass windows..ceiling to floor.excellent food and breakfast
Review 10:Breakfast, little choice, very limited hot food, would have like some bacon!
Review 11:When looking for somewhere in the South of Iceland to stay you cannot find somewhere better than here. Big comfortable rooms, amazing bathroom with underfloor heating. Very good restaurant serving top quality food.
Review 12:Very modern hotel. Comfy beds and nice big windows for northern lights spotting ( we weren't so lucky). We didn't eat here but wish we got breakfast included as there is nowhere else to have breakfast close by. The restaurant/cafe beside the tourist info office is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Yummy food.
Review 13:The hotel itself is beautiful and the food at the restaurante is amazing. The staff was lovely from the time we arrived, always smiling and willing to help.
Review 14:We got a ground floor room which had no view because of the adjacent building right in front of the hotel so we couldn't enjoy the amazing view to the beach. I am an architect and I still cannot understand why the two buildings were built so close in order to block the view. It's a pity. It could also have some basic toiletries like toothpaste and hand wash soap.
Review 15:Amazing facilities Super clean Friendly staff Excellent design in rooms and communal spaces.
Review 16:In common with the majority of hotels in Iceland a 'double room' is actually two single beds pushed together with two small duvets. This makes it rather awkward if you're travelling as a couple.
Review 17:Lovely hotel with typically Nordic design aesthetic, excellent restaurant (one of the best we found on our travels around the ring road), and friendly staff.
Review 18:The "best room" (which we paid too much for) was very cold even with the heat all the way up and the mattress was extremely stiff and uncomfortable. Despite the website photos, it's not exactly on the coast so the view includes a gas station and another building in front of the ocean view. Also, with the exception of the lamb, the hotel restaurant is very expensive for small portions of mediocre food but, there aren't many other choices in the area.
Review 19:The location and view was great - it's midway between Reykjavik and the east coast making it very convenient for making the loop. Hotel was very clean and staff was very friendly.
Review 20:This hotel blew me away!!! The restaurant is incredible, rooms are the perfect mix of functionality and style, and it's location is great to explore the surrounding attractions.
Review 21:The space in the family room was very tight for four people the bed were comfortable however we were quite squished considering luggage and no space to lounge. Also we tried the breakfast buffet and the only thing that we found to be tastey were the waffles. It wasn't worth the high cost of the buffet.
Review 22:We loved the cleanliness and comfort of our stay very much! We felt full accommodated!!
Review 23:The prices in the Hotel restaurant was too high; the quality of the food didn't match the price
Review 24:Stylish and clean room, friendly staff and great location. Vik is a charming place.
Review 25:Little facilities other than restaurant Overpriced restaurant Room cleaning wasn't that great for this level of hotel
Review 26:Location was good and free parking. Room was nice Staff were helpful
Review 27:It was very easy to locate the hotel, it being just off the road. The room was one of the largest we had during our stay in iceland in 7 places. No lack of luggage space here! We quite liked the design of the room. Can't comment much outside of the room as we didn't have dinner or breakfast there and we didn't use any of their facilities. There was also a petrol pump opposite the hotel which was convenient for us. It seemed heavily utilised when we were there.
Review 28:Very welcoming and helpful staff. The rooms were superb-- they were very clean, had comfortable beds, modern washrooms, had television with some English channels, and even had a kettle with complementary coffee and tea. The lobby has a bar and a nice, relaxing seating area. Great location that was very easy to find. The hotel is only a few minutes away from a walkway leading to the black sand beaches. We had a great time here!
Review 29:The restaurant was overpriced and food was all drenched in butter. Severely disappointing for such a swanky-looking place. We also found that it was very noisy when we were trying to sleep; the walls are far too thin. For the price, it simply wasn't worth it.
Review 30:The room was lovely, clean, and warm. Located just off the highway, this hotel was very easy to find.
Review 31:We arrived for breakfast 30 mins before it finished but many items were already consumed and not replaced. However, a request to staff soon replenished many of the items and so not a big issue.
Review 32:This was our most expensive stay at Iceland but well worth the money. We had a family room which had one bedroom upstairs and the room was a nice size. Everything was very clean and of a high quality. Location, just alongside the town of Vik and just across the road from the famous beach. Highly recommended
Review 33:We loved the IcelandAir Hotel! It was clean, modern and beautiful. The family room was lovely and the loft sleeping area made the room seem more spacious. Excellent design! The staff was very pleasant and the restaurant was wonderful. I would highly recommend and am looking forward to my next trip to beautiful Vik.
Review 34:our room smelled like cigarette smoke and when brought to staff attention they said they couldn't smell it and didn't care. I'm allergic to smoke and the people in the room next to me were smoking in their room and I felt sick when I left.
Review 35:Food in restaurant was great
Review 36:Nothing.
Review 37:Very clean and modern room. Love the spacious bathroom. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Convenient as there is a petrol kiosk directly opposite the hotel.
Review 38:Hideous wi-fi. Either have it or don't, its very intermittent and poor because they have a paid option for better quality. No atmosphere, its a business/conference hotel. No games or books to entertain us in the evening. Vik itself is not worthy of an overnight stay unless you get there late and leave early - allow an hour for the black sand beach and some more if you want to shop at Icewear across the road, but otherwise there is nothing else to do. Breakfast was quite simple and we didn't find any character/atmosphere in the restaurant. The tv didn't tune in properly either. We wish we'd gone to a friendly guesthouse and travelled on from Vik altogether. Its also the wetest town in Iceland.
Review 39:Clean, efficient, smart. Delicious dinner.
Review 40:No free breakfast. I spent 4 weeks in Iceland. Every other place I stayed included breakfast.I looked at your breakfast. It was not anything special.
Review 41:Beautiful hotel. Great location.
Review 42:Breakfast should be included in the hotel rate. The view to the backyard and thin walls, one can hear almost everything.
Review 43:Excellent dinner in the restaurant
Review 44:The rooms at the back have no view (unless you like garbage bins and trucks). The distance from the car park to the check-in is a long way - not fun in the rain!! The receptionist was not at all friendly nor efficient.
Review 45:The hotel is modern and the rooms very comfortable.
Review 46:We had a sea view room but the view was slightly marred by having to look at the roofline of the Hotel Edda directly in front of the Icelandair Vik
Review 47:The hotel was absolutely beautiful - very chic and elegant. The staff were super helpful and pleasant.
Review 48:Lots of people for breakfast. Seemed like a major tour group stop.
Review 49:Convenient location for one night. Interesting area. Hotel layout comfortable and clean.
Review 50:Breakfast should be included in the high price of the room
Review 51:Spacious room with light, natural decor. Friendly staff. Nice lobby area and excellent restaurant.
Review 52:Expected to be on the opposite side of the road, was not expecting a view of the gas station with the beach
Review 53:Heated bathroom floors, upscale, restaurant in the hotel, central location (center of town), across from black sand beach
Review 54:Poor quality coffee at breakfast
Review 55:Large floor to ceiling window in the room Nice modern decor Large comfortable bed with reading lights Very close to restaurants in Vik and to the beach.
Review 56:As with most accommodation outside Reykjavik, rates are hugely inflated due to the lack of supply. Also most hotels are under-staffed at the front desk, restaurants and bars which is not to be expected when you pay more than EUR 200 for a night stay.
Review 57:Nice contemporary decor.
Review 58:Friendly and informative staff. Great dinner restaurant. Easy access to puffins and attractions. Convenient stopping point on the south side of the island.
Review 59:Restaurant was a bit pricey. Service a little slow but staff very helpful.
Review 60:Hotel seemed very new. We were 4 adults staying in one room. Perfect for us. Two beds downstairs and two single beds up. Had ceiling fan and temperature control. Great use of space. Handy hooks and hang rods and closet space. Good size bathroom. Good black out curtains. Staff offered to call us if Northern Lights were seen during night. Too bad it was cloudy.
Review 61:Amazing place, really loved it, only disappointment was only free wifi for 1 day, and the breakfast was a bit ordinary, other than that, amazing, great view!
Review 62:The room was too hot at night, despite having the window open. Also a bit expensive, could not have afforded more than one night's stay!
Review 63:Gluten free choices on dinner & breakfast menu made my partner's life easier than usual.
Review 64:The room we were in was on the ground floor with a view of a back driveway and dumpster - took away from the upscale feel of the place.
Review 65:The staff were amazing, the room was clean and the on-site restaurant was solid.
Review 66:Would have been happy with this if it had been less expensive. The hotel is squeezed in between Hotel Edda (to which it is attached) and a cliff face, so none of the rooms really have any kind of view as far as I could tell (The upstairs ones you could see something over the roof of the other hotel). The room itself was quite small and had floor to ceiling windows which were right next to a walkway, so we had to keep the curtain closed to have any privacy.
Review 67:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was new and modern and had a very nice bathroom. It was a short walk to the black sand beach, and a short drive to spectacular scenery (including a place where we could photograph puffins). Dinner was very good.
Review 68:Free WiFi was only for one device - which doesn't work well for a family with 4 devices. Please add a phone to front desk (we had questions and walking down to desk in PJs is not fun) and clocks by master, at least. Loved the TVs but nothing to watch. Are satellite channels available?
Review 69:It is a beautiful hotel and the family room was wonderfully fun for the kids.
Review 70:Not a bad experience, but we thought the hotel was overpriced. Also the unexplained need to enter an email address to be able to access wifi meant that we did not use it.
Review 71:Quite a utilitarian place around the hotel (I wouldn't stay in this area again - maybe outside of Vik).
Review 72:A luxurious room with a top floor terrace - making it perfect for a family. A small gym. A great restaurant - and fantastic breakfast
Review 73:If you don't book a high floor room you look straight into the hotel Edda. The rear rooms look straight at s cliff 30ft away!
Review 74:Good location on south coast. Modern boutique hotel. Excellent restaurant but pricey.
Review 75:The room wasn't very clean. We chose the best room in the hotel and we expected something more. The towel hanger in the shower was broken and the towels kept falling down. The price was definitely too high for what we got.
Review 76:Very nice and friendly staff. The restaurant was really superb and we enjoyed a delicious dinner there, but we can't say the same for the breakfast, which was pretty good but nothing particular. I would recommend to choose a standard room and not to pay extra for a superior one: it isn't definitely worth it.
Review 77:Felt like they charged for little things that are included elsewhere, and free WiFi was speed limited. Also, they just changed my room type, because they had overbooked.
Review 78:Great location across the highway from the beach area in Vick. Rooms have floor to ceiling windows along one side.
Review 79:Clean, modern, chic hotel and room. Nice view from the room. The dinner in the restaurant was outstanding. Excellent service and food. Very nice breakfast.
Review 80:the upper loft has poor ventilation, felt stuffy and warm. otherwise it would be perfect.
Review 81:nice, clean, new modern hotel. We booked a family room, and surprised that it was spacious!
Review 82:Overpriced. Small rooms. No views from lower floors, except of another hotel directly in front. Hotel photos show rooms with views which is very misleading because at closer inspection, you will see photos were taken from upper floors. The restaurant decor was very unimpressive and had a "convention center" feel. Not much selection in the mediocre breakfast buffet.
Review 83:The quality of the meal at Restaurant Berg was good, but expensive.
Review 84:Our room was facing another hotel, no view whatsoever. Try to get a second floor room.
Review 85:It is one of the most modern hotel of the Icelandair hotels we stayed. The room is nicely decorated and the bathroom with a nice and big shower. We stayed in several Icelandair hotels during our trip in Iceland, this is the only one that is close to 3 stars.
Review 86:When I arrived I was told there was no room available for me even though I had my booking confirmation. This caused my partner and I some distress as after a 2 hour drive we thought we had nowhere to stay. After some time the receptionist was able to find that somebody had accidentally checked me in earlier in the day before I arrived at the hotel. It was a stressful situation but it was rectified eventually.
Review 87:Room was very modern and clean with a gorgeous sea view. Dinner in restaurant and breakfast were delicious. Staff were nice and helpful.
Review 88:A little bit of a drive from Reykjavik , but a good start to a wonderful trip.
Review 89:Good first taste of Iceland. Small town, Great black sand beach and rock formations.
Review 90:The "sea view" wasnt really a sea view, your room will face the sea but you cant see it actually.
Review 91:Lovely spacious room, heated floor in the toilet, good tv channels.
Review 92:Male receptionist wasn't particularly warm & welcoming
Review 93:Hotel centrally located. Food in restaurant was excellent Bright & modern decor & furnishings
Review 94:For being such an expensive hotel breakfast was not included. All the other inns we stayed at included breakfast so why can they offer it too?
Review 95:Very nice modern hotel. Room was clean with floor to ceiling window so lots of light coming in. We had cliff view which means the back of hotel. Room had black out curtains. Would stay there again. Ate at a really good restaurant Halldorskaffi , easy walk from hotel. Vik is a beautiful town and should not be missed.
Review 96:The only downside was the expense - it was the most expensive hotel that I have stayed in for a while. That's likely due to the lack of alternative accommodation in the area.
Review 97:The hotel is very modern and very comfortable.
Review 98:We also had to pay extra for the breakfast and was not good value for money. Good variety, however at 8:15 the egg dish was almost empty and cold. For the price of room the breakfast should have been included as were enjoyed others just as well that were included in price. It was raining when we arrived and could not park close to door to unload luggage.
Review 99:We paid extra for a sea view and was good. It is across street from black sand beach, great for walk on beach. Happy hour at bar was also good. We had dinner at hotel - very good and great service, excellent quality. We both had catch of day (cod) excellent. Would recommend.
Review 100:Restaurant short staffed, dinner chaotic but food ok. The view is not wort paying extra for. Bed perfectly made but bathroom not perfectly clean. Expensive.
Review 101:Beautiful hotel, room nice and bed great. Helpful staff. Great location for sighseeing in the neighborhood.
Review 102:Beautiful hotel in terms of interior design. Comfortable also and the view from the room is amazing. Good services also. I would come back for a longer time.
Review 103:like everything in iceland, it was expensive. but it's by far the nicest/only place to stay in vik.
Review 104:vik was a very plesent surprise. nice destination, good food, nice views, nice beaches and very close to many things to do (glaciers and falls and beaches and puffins)
Review 105:Paid extra for a ocean view room and we had a view of a roof (from the building located directly in front of the hotel) Construction workers were outside working until almost 10pm. (it was still light outside) I wish we at least got the money back that we paid to have a room with a view :-(
Review 106:Modern room, nice bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff - but when we complained about our room location they were unable to do anything about it (I paid extra for a view! :-(
Review 107:Confusing to find. sign outside says Hotel Edda. Only hotel out of 14 that we did not have breakfast included
Review 108:comfortable hotel with great staff. had fun talking to front desk young man about Game of Thrones and the Vikings. He looked like a Viking. dinner at their restaurant was very good.
Review 109:Wifi, was poor however, it was in the first week of the opening of the new wing. Improvement were made but still not up to full speed. Otherwise no complaints.
Review 110:I have stayed in many top class hotels around the world on business the hotel is right up there with the best.
Review 111:Got the sea view room and could see the stacks from my window although the hotel is set a little back from the beach itself. Very comfortable with excellent service although a little pricey
Review 112:-way too expensive for the room you get -noisy and small room -by looking out of the window of the room, you got another hotel directly infront of you that hides the beautiful view - you have two classes of wifi, one is standard and a faster one that you have to pay. For this class of hotel, fast wifi should be included.
Review 113:-clean and beautiful room -excellent restaurant -nice staff
Review 114:The room was a bit hot at night and the window wouldn't open wide enough.
Review 115:The hotel was incredibly stylish! Great breakfast, great restaurant, clean rooms. Attentive and very helpful staff.
Review 116:Modern hotel in great location. Brilliant views from our room. We decided to head out for food rather than eat in. More upmarket than expected and didn't feel comfortable dining there with our 1 year old. Would probably reccomend more for couples and adult travellers than families.
Review 117:Leaving
Review 118:We hit this hotel when we were in most need of rest and relaxation and we got it. Kids upstairs in same room but out of the constant light. Everything smelled new. Cold beer, good food. Nice rooms. Great shower and comfortable beds.
Review 119:I would like to have an iron and board everywhere I travel.
Review 120:Proximity to the black sandy beach which is about 3 minutes away by car along which one can find several restaurants. Opposite to the hotel is a petrol filling station plus a shop. We dined at its restaurant and found the food fresh & delicious. The hotel is about an year old therefore everything is new & clean.
Review 121:Wifi did not reach to some of the rooms (including ours), though the signal in the lobby was strong.
Review 122:From the staff to the hotel facilities, this hotel was a wonderful retreat. Clean & comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast and dinners, helpful and kind staff...you really couldn't ask for better!
Review 123:Our room door was not closed or locked after cleaning. Our orders at dinner messed up and we waited one hour before being served (but offered 2 free deserts by the waiter.) We were suddenly asked to move our car away from the carpark due to paving of road/carpark surface, presumably due to weather improvement. We were checking out that morning and had to load our luggages next to the trucks. Poor/no wifi in guest room.
Review 124:Polite and considerate staff. Clean room.
Review 125:Things you can fix: More comfortable chairs in the rooms. King size sheets and quilt and something in the crack between the mattresses. Breakfast should be upgraded. Things you cannot fix: the absence of a covered entrance for unloading baggage and passengers in bad weather. The other hotel in front of your hotel. What were you thinking?
Review 126:The staff was great. Happy hour. Good view from our room, but not many others.
Review 127:The breakfast is quite expensive and I expected much more than the standard Scandinavian fare. I would not get the breakfast included in my rate next time and take a visit to the grocery store across the way. The toiletries are from a great Icelandic brand but they are not minature so you can't take them with you. Lastly, it is a bit expensive for what you get but that's Iceland for you!
Review 128:Vik is a great stopping point on the way further east or as a respite before returning to Reykjavik. The hotel overlooks the beach (ask for a room on the even number side of the hall on the second floor). The hotel is exceptionally clean, the staff very helpful and the restaurant food was amazing.
Review 129:Two things: 1) the rooms were very warm at night but luckily the windows open. 2) there was no WiFi in the 1st floor guest rooms (but that is supposed to be fixed).
Review 130:Great restaurant and wonderful breakfast. Olivia was our server at dinner for the two nights we stayed at the hotel. She was incredibly helpful and very pleasant. Very comfortable beds.
Review 131:The "triple" room turned out to be a double room with a roll about bed.
Review 132:Easy access to the Ring Road and the sites in and around Vik. Modern hotel, clean, with friendly and helpful staff and excellent breakfast. For dinner, the food was just "OK" and the restaurant overpriced - even for Iceland.
Review 133:Breakfast not included, no help with lugagge (had to carry it about 50 min in rain from parking to hotel door)
Review 134:Modern and clean design, very nice staff.
The Fine Print
