Reviews for Aherne's Townhouse Hotel and Seafood Restaurant
Review 1:First class food and great to chat with the staff and other guests after the meal. I know its a fish restaurant but even so I had perhaps the best piece of fish (black sole) that I have ever had.
Review 2:On holiday with our 2 sons and our dog. Stayed in a family room, which was perfect for us all. The room had an en suite bathroom with a great shower and 2 double beds (the boys didn't mind sharing). Had everything we needed.Great place to stay with a dog - as a path by the sea (harbour- ish) just round the corner. The staff were very helpful and friendly but above all the breakfast was outstanding! We even ate there for our evening meal twice it was so good!
Review 3:N/A
Review 4:Hosts John and Kate were marvelous - lovely accommodation, atmosphere was great, and John made us laugh - personalised service. We went back and stayed another night as it was so good.
Review 5:Noisy pub close by on a Saturday night - not necessarily a problem depending on when you want to go to sleep
Review 6:Very friendly and helpful staff made an extra difference to the hospitality
Review 7:Live shell fish kept in fish tanks in the foyer .
Review 8:Friendly family run hotel, great food would stay again. Could not find fault it was exactly as advertised .Only one small criticism fish tanks with live shell fish i.e. lobsters as an animal lover that practice belongs to the past.
Review 9:The town itself didn't meet my expectations. I was a little bit disappointed with the shops and the harbour.
Review 10:The sea food and the presentation of meals in the evening.
Review 11:No bad experiences everything was of a high standard .
Review 12:The bedrooms were big and airy , the hotel was spotless with friendly , helpful staff . I had breakfast with two evening meals which were tasty and well presented . In our group of 4 we had an elderly lady who was feeling the cold and the proprietor lit a fire for her in the drawing room which was lovely and cozy and beyond expectation for early August
Review 13:A great place for our first time away with a 6 month old pup. The room with access to the street & yard spot on great for dog. Nearby was a good area to walk the dog without traffic. A good big room & bathroom, staff very friendly & helpful. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal and breakfast.
Review 14:Very friendly staff and a very clean convenient hotel.Breakfast we had was scrambled eggs and salmon which was delicious.I had dinner in the hotel which was great bu
Review 15:While very appreciative of the upgrade the bed was only a double that needs at least updating of firmness but, for a suite, really should be at least a queen size
Review 16:Complimentary upgrade to junior suite. Owners and staff very friendly and helpful. Great seafood restaurant established for many years and frequented by many a local. Excellent breakfasts in a quiet private dining room.
Review 17:Nothing except fish on a la carte menu very pricey.
Review 18:Warm,welcoming atmosphere the minute you arrive in the door. Beautiful blazing fire, soft sofas, seasonal decorations & reading material make the lounge the perfect place to relax before or after your meal.
Review 19:Everything, can't decide what I liked the most, the great food, comfortable & beautiful decor or the lovely friendly people! I'll be back..
Review 20:Nothing . You couldn't find fault with Aherne's.
Review 21:Everything . but particularly the wonderful welcome from everyone, as always, and the fantastic food. In all our travels over many years this is THE best place ever.
Review 22:We only stayed one night. Should have stayed longer.
Review 23:Kay and David are excellent hosts. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. The facility is roomy and very pleasant. The amenities were excellent. David's food was the best we had in 10 days of holiday.
Review 24:On checking in, I decided along with my friend to eat in the restaurant. Halfway through eating I noticed something that concerned me in the middle of my dish. It appeared to me and to my friend to be a maggot or slug. I reported this to the waitress who took it away and came back to tell me that the chef said that it was a piece of celery. To me it looked nothing like celery as it was the only piece in my dinner. This was all done in a subtle way, without fuss or argument, we quietly reported it to the waitress without making a scene of any kind.Firstly I was told I would get half off the price of the dish, we paid and at the end another waiter asked was everything ok, and we explained the situation, he came back and refunded the whole price of the dish but at no point did the proprietor / manager approach us to discuss or apologise for the upset (although he was the one who sat us and took our order). We promptly left and went to a bar a few doors down to have a quiet drink after that experience. After some time, the same proprietor/manager came in, interrupted our conversation rudely and abruptly and stated that the item I found in my meal was a piece of celery (with no apology or anything). He promptly turned his back to us then and ordered a pint, which he drank while sitting beside us with his back to us. At this point we were quite upset about the whole issue but we did not say anymore as his manner concerned us.We arrived back to our room at about 2am and while getting ready for bed, our bedroom door opened slowly and the same man walked in and turned around and walked out again with no explanation as to what he was doing. The doors automatically lock so he had to use a key to get in. We were both extremely upset about the whole evening at this point and I had to put a chair in front of the door for the remainder of the night as I didn’t know if he was going to come in again.
Review 25:No fan or coolnes to assist comfort in the very hot weather. Location at the back of the hotel noisy with delivery lorries and cars.
Review 26:Outstanding menu. The only difficulty being choosing between the top quality steaks or the `out of this world`s` seafood. The staff were all charming and so eager to accommodate us.
Review 27:The only minor niggle was the antique hairdryer, which had little power and was attached to the wall, making it difficult to style hair due to lack of power and movement.
Review 28:The restaurant was outstanding. We loved the tasting menu with wines. It was delicious and very reasonably priced. We would certainly come to eat here again. Great breakfast also. The room was very spacious and comfortable.
Review 29:Excellent food and welcoming staff.
Review 30:The owner welcomed us into the sitting room with open fire and then showed us straight to our room. No forms to fill in!

Review 77:Youghal town itself has become Really run down over the years Many premises closed no heart to hype town. If it weren't for ahernes There wouldn't be a whole lot to go to Youghal for.

Review 79:The entrance into back of the bar area is a little confusing
Review 80:The staff/family were so warm & welcoming .The Food was simply excellent and the room was spotless with lashings on hot water , warm towels and extra bed linen . We really loved the open fire and newspapers in the residents sitting room!
Review 81:Unable to access WiFi. We were somewhat surprised by how dated the menu was given the rave reviews but that being said food was well prepared and served- just uninteresting.
Review 82:The staff at Ahern's were exceptionally accommodating, interesting and professional. Our suite compared favourably with accommodation at this price point.
Review 83:This is a problem we have had all over Europe, in that Wifi is patchythroughout the hotel. Having said that, it wouldn't put me off.
Review 84:Like the other properties which appear in Ireland's Blue Book, thisis a charming and traditional hotel. The rooms are very comfortable andthe staff go out of their way to offer a warm welcome. When they saw Iwas walking with a crutch they went through the rooms available to giveme one which required minimal climbing. The bar is adorable and theseafood on offer in their famous restaurant is fresh and tasty.
Review 85:The evening meal in the restaurant was very good. Lovely atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and should we be back in the area in the future we would definitely stay again.
Review 86:The service was fantastic. Also I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Ann who is a fantastic host, very warm and welcoming and a huge aset to the business.

Review 94:Lovely staff, food, big rooms, comfortable bed, really make the most of the space in a town location
Review 95:just stayed one night and checked in late afternoon. The town sort of closed down by that time. not much to do in town unlike most other areas of Ireland.
Review 96:excellent room, helpful staff, great breakfast, good restaurant for dinner.
Review 97:We should have planned on staying longer!
Review 98:The experience is more like staying in a handsome home than a hotel. There is plenty of art work throughout the public areas and in the rooms. The fireside sitting room is charming. More importantly, the welcome is genuine, the dining exemplary and the town worth lingering in.
Review 99:Easy check in, very large and comfortable room, excellent food and good value! The owners were lovely and made sure we were well looked after. Would definitely stay there again and can recommend to everyone!
Review 100:Bed was a little uncomfortable, nothing a new mattress wouldn't fix!
Review 101:We stayed 2 nights B+B, and had the tasting menu on the 2nd night. The food was outstanding, as was the friendly sincere attention of the owners / staff. Thoroughly relaxing break.
Review 102:The dinner (steak) was not great and very overpriced for what you get.We had prawns to start which was very expensive and you get only 3 eachso I thought that was steep considering they were simply in garlicbutter. The shower in room was no good. It was very cold in room when wearrived and did not warm up until the following morning.
Review 103:The breakfast specifically was good. The room was spacious enough.
Review 104:The welcome.the homely atmosphere a lovely open fire on a winters evening, made feel special.Stunning food both dinner and breakfast. Also the attention to detail in the room and small touches that made a big difference.
Review 105:We have stayed at Ahernes many times, the first time 17 years ago, it is my favourite seafood restaurant, and the family owned business is efficient, warm and always welcoming with an ambience that would be difficult to better.
Review 106:Friendliness of staff. Spacious room with sofa and armchair so very relaxing. Quiet but in the centre of town with parking. Excellent food in restaurant and bar.
