Reviews for Hotel Borg Reykjavík
Review 1:I think the breakfast was good but it would have been nice to offer hot boiled eggs and fried eggs. The scramble was a little overdone for my liking and I love smoked salmon but the salmon was not quiet the same as expected to go with cold boiled eggs...
Review 2:Cleanliness. Downtown where there is a lot to eat and do in the evening if you want to. We walked everywhere in the evenings. Close to the Harbor, right on the square and where there are art galleries etc. The staff were helpful and polite. They made good suggestions around town.
Review 3:Dislikes....had to leave
Review 4:Lovely hotel in the Art Deco 30s style. Large rooms and friendly staff. Location is excellent for access to bars and restaurants.
Review 5:The breakfast buffet was pretty simple and not worth the $18. There were better cafes just across the street and down the block.
Review 6:Old school retro hotel in the Center of the city. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff nice and willing to help you book excursions or get around.
Review 7:However.....TV system was poor -missing channels, patchy reception + voice-over-for-blind could not be removed (during our stay) on one channel. Seems an upgrade is planned v soon however....
Review 8:Single room was very small and felt does not justify the room rate. Central location a downside on Friday & Saturday nights as late night music nearby - bring your ear plugs!
Review 9:Very central art deco style
Review 10:Had prepaid an old-style room at $ 500/ night and expected a wonderful experience but ended up getting a very ordinary smallish room in a new, just completed addition on the first floor overlooking a garbage- and construction area, with poor window placement, dangerously slippery bathroom floor, no space in the bathroom for toiletries, small desk poorly placed, no drawers etc. Staff were poorly trained, indifferent , ignorant, impolite. Receptionist had us wait several minutes on arrival while finishing a phone conversation. Breakfast at $ 28 / person was a joke, poor quality food and poor selection on a cramped buffet table. A 2-star experience at most for a 5-star price.
Review 11:The reception desk was extremely busy with long queues. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly though.
Review 12:Lovely, comfortable and well-located hotel. Charming decor, nice feel.
Review 13:Noisy at night in the streets outside in the summer. Rooms not prepared for night time, turned down I think it is called. We had a room adapted for disabled which made the bathroom difficult.
Review 14:Quite stylish hotel and pleasant service. Location very convenient for sight seeing if you can bear the noise.
Review 15:I didn't like the noisy partiers down below. I had to sleep with the window closed, which is stuffy in the summer, as well as my earplugs and noise machine. I think there were earplugs in the nightstand. However, I'm a light sleeper.
Review 16:The location is perfect. The hotel has history but it's still in great condition and well kept up. Inform your guests about the fact that it can be noisy at night and into early AM due to bars outside. If they request a quiet room, make sure they get it, or they may be grumpy the next day.
Review 17:There's no parking at the hotel itself so I found myself having to wake up to feed the meter. Also, ensure to ask for a room not facing the construction, as this really annoyed me my first night.
Review 18:The location is wonderful, right in the middle of everything. The staff was very accommodating when I was placed next to construction the first night and actually moved me to a suite free of charge.
Review 19:It appeared that little care was given to the cleaning the sink counter top. One morning I left with an empty facial tissue box. When I returned a empty tissue box had not been replaced. When I made the desk staff aware, the tissue was promptly replaced.
Review 20:On the front desk, Sigurjon offered exceptional service. He went well beyond all requests and inquiries made. All the desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 21:Leaving !
Review 22:As very well travelled and seasoned hotel guests, this hotel is to us an exceptional one. Innovative, thoughtful, efficient, and superbly situated and appointed. Outstanding
Review 23:Overpriced, most possibly because of it's reputation and location.
Review 24:The location is most central in Iceland. Main parliament square. Wi Fi strong. Breakfast ok, if not great.
Review 25:Nothing we didn't like. The hot water on the tap in the bathroom took quite long to arrive, but that's a minor thing. The duvet was a bit short in length. Would have loved to have a gym in the hotel.
Review 26:This art deco style hotel has a lot of charm and is very well located to enjoy all of what Reykjavik has to offer. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and clean. Great bathroom. Good breakfast and very welcoming and helpful staff.
Review 27:Room 302 temperature was not controllable. Early April outside temperature was 1 degree C. and all heat radiators were off but we had to open the window and listen to street vehicular and pedestrian traffic all night.
Review 28:Front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating including early check-in, dining recommendations and reservations, and friendly demeanor.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:The bed, the wifi, the art deco, the location, a corner room with views over the square and church, kettle in the room, slippers and dressing gowns, rainhead shower.
Review 31:Construction work all day everyday. Horrible noise! When we checked in, a SINGLE ROOM = a single bed. I had no idea this was the case, as I have booked hundreds of hotels in the last few years and didnt know single bed rooms existed. Was a major issue when checking in.
Review 32:Good location, nice hotel.
Review 33:they lost our email exchange regarding double bed so we put the 2 single beds together ourselves as late flight arrival
Review 34:good location for everything, lovely view over the quiet square, nice art deco feel
Review 35:Expensive and bad breakfast, cold cooked eggs from the fridge and small dry pieces of cheese at this level of hotel is not acceptable. The price should be Lowe or quality better.
Review 36:Returned one night and no one was at the desk. I went behind the desk to retrieve my key and then went to my room. So security was a bit lax. This was not typical - security was generally fine, but it did happen once.
Review 37:The double pane windows worked well and we heard no noise even though there was a peace march on Christmas Eve. Also, the location was ideal - you could go in any direction and be near something like the center of town or down by the seaport area in a matter of minutes.
Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:Loved the staff and the design of the place. Has always wanted to stay there so it was a bit of a last night indulgence. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the place is just opulent. Great breakfasts also....
Review 40:Breakfast expensive and poor, better to have it across the road in caffe Paris where the food is excellent . Small bathrooms, and they should use softener for towel and bathrobes. We didn't like having two single duvets. And one suggestion, don't ask anything people at the reception, they are hopeless, do everything yourself or go to tourist office, if not you are going to miss something! They just don't care, and they look like they don't want to be there. Just one man on the night shift was happy and trying to do his job at his best
Review 41:Good position, comfortable, fast and good wi fi
Review 42:Lighting in room was poor--almost impossible to read without huddling under desk lamp. Selection of television channels was minimal--no more than 10 or so channels. Front desk staff was not forthcoming about events at hotel or in the city. They seemed very preoccupied and aloof.
Review 43:Standard room was larger than I expected in a European hotel. The lobby and rooms were nicely decorated consistent with historic nature of hotel. Location, right on central square, was fabulous--pretty much walked to everything!
Review 44:The limited Christmas menu. Would've appreciated more choice for the high price. (Appreciate that at the time the restaurant was being renovated)
Review 45:Location. Appearance. Room - with view of Austurvöllur Breakfast
Review 46:acces to the room was via an old elevator, something like a goods lift, around the back at the staff entrance to the bar....it was not at all what I expected for the price paid.
Review 47:bar next door, loud very loud at weekends till 5am !!!
Review 48:we loved the fact that we were in a central location right in the heart of downtown reykjavik. Staff were brillant when we needed to move room due to noise from room above, they put us in a suite!!! . Breakfast ok scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages??beans , pastries juice. room had comfortable beds, great shower and deep baths.Rooms were very warm - lovely . would definately recccomend but not at the weekends unless your under 20 x
Review 49:Our room was on top of a bar who shares the ground floor with the hotel, so our room was noisy. It took us a little while to get to sleep.
Review 50:Loved the 1920s atmosphere and deco. We stayed there for a night - the room was impecable, the staff friendly and helpful and the amenities fair.
Review 51:The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was also quite good. We traveled in November so it was not their busy season so when we arrived at 8:30AM our room was empty and they let us check in early! The hotel was beautiful.
Review 52:Our room faced one of the nightclubs and we were woken up at 4:00am to the DJ cranking on the tunes! I also would have appreciated if they had put on their website that they were under construction so we were prepared.
Review 53:I liked the modern look of the old building with history. The hotel is under construction, but they are doing a good job to keep the effects from the guests. Beds and rooms very comfy! Breakfast delicious.
Review 54:Breakfast ridiculously expensive.Better to breakfast at Cafe Paris next door.
Review 55:Location very central. Staff at reception very helpful, good restaurant recommendations.
Review 56:In iceland you get what you pay for. As far as accommodation goes. Will perhaps change as more hotels seem to be under construction
Review 57:Excellent location not too close to bother us with noise at the weekends but still in the heart of the mix.
Review 58:Because our room on the fourth floor overlooked the plaza, we were subjected to the racket that is Reykjavik on Saturday night. No sleep was possible. And, is this really a luxury hotel? There's no bellman, though the desk clerk was happy to help me with my heavy bags. Also, I tried to adjust my travel plans over a week prior to our arrival and that wasn't allowed. Be sure to know that your room is charged when you make your reservation! And don't try to make any changes!
Review 59:This is a beautiful, historic hotel in a prime location in the city. We stayed in the "new" section, overlooking the park and it was very comfortable, with big windows. I enjoyed the Art Deco decor.
Review 60:We should have been informed that construction work was going on at the Hotel. We were in room 504 and access was via a Service Lift which had no internal safety door and was very dangerous. We should have also been informed that all the roads were closed for the Marathon, which meant we had to pull our 4 suit cases, some 400m, through the streets as no Taxis could reach the Hotel
Review 61:Reception Staff and Bell Boy, very helpful and polite.
Review 62:Checked in around midnight and took desk manager 20 minutes to find our reservation even though I offered our booking number several times. Further, because we checked in at midnight, the hotel didn't account for us on the housekeeping ledger and so our room wasn't cleaned which we didn't realise until we returned from a full day out on the Golden Circle. The housekeeping team had left for the day and only after strongly challenging the staff was our room eventually cleaned.
Review 63:Great location Excellent breakfast buffet
Review 64:The service hall and service elevator to get to our room #402 was horrible. We felt sure we had take a wrong turn. Dirty, grungy, small. The rude staff at the front desk both during check-in and check-out, and answering questions on the phone was inexcusable.
Review 65:Location is very convenient, although partiers can be heard in the wee hours from plaza below. The room itself was nice. The breakfast staff were fine.
Review 66:The noise from the square, although hotel has no control over people in the street, from other reviews about hotels in this area we experienced the same troubles.People shouting at top of there voice during night, despite double glazing and another separate window still got woken.Hotels need to do more to work with authorities to clamp down on this behaviour, and report the anti social behaviour. As excellent as the hotel is,If I ever return to Iceland I will not stay in Reykjavik again due to this problem.
Review 67:decor through out the hotel, art decor theme carried out everywhere in Hotel which we personally like this style. Had suite room very nice, several big windows which opened on to balcony which we could sit out on,looking on to square.Room was far superior than a close rival which we had stayed at earlier in our trip, although smaller it was far nicer and comfier.Staff friendly and helpful so all in all all good.
Review 68:Located on the main square, it was very noisy late into the night. Had to keep windows closed to shut out noise and it was quite warm. Would be okay in winter.
Review 69:Hotel was fine, clean and comfortable
Review 70:Excellent staff,lovely furnishings,attractive deco.
Review 71:The hotel restaurant is very pricey.
Review 72:Lovely decor, very comfy bed, helpful staff, great location.
Review 73:Magical especially because attended family wedding at the church next to the hotel.
Review 74:Great rooms, location, staff and food
Review 75:Everything !
Review 76:Everything
Review 77:Location, size of room, cleanliness and staff.
Review 78:Could do with more storage in the bedrooms.Staff could be more welcoming.
Review 79:Great location. Beautiful new room. Good Breakfast.
Review 80:The hotel was marvellous. A great location with great staff and wonderful rooms. And we saw the northern lights right outside
Review 81:Upgrade on arrival - friendliest front desk staff -
Review 82:Upgrade
Review 83:No bath. Sloping ceiling on the roof that I often bumped my head on.
Review 84:Beautiful decor. Very clean. Great staff.
Review 85:Room's were cosy and clean. Shower was lovely and dressing gowns were a nice touch. Plenty of choice for breakfast, great food.
Review 86:the authenticity of this Deco building is a treat. Staff are wonderfully helpful and the room excellent.
Review 87:The hotel was gracious and elegant from start to finish, from the spacious rooms to the generous staff.
Review 88:Small rooms. Tiny bath. No Gym on premises.
Review 89:Clean...to be expected at that price. Good location.
Review 90:Standard of single room. Very nice. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 91:the lighting in the bedrooms was not enough
Review 92:No restaurant. Only Breakfast.
Review 93:None
Review 94:Art Deco style and location.
Review 95:Sadly the restaurant was closed for redevelopment, but there are many good restaurants or eating places close by
Review 96:staff at reception not very welcoming.
Review 97:Very central location beautyful bulding nice lage room and beds
Review 98:WiFi had some problems Beds are really soft Parking is difficult
Review 99:Old and cosy Great help from the staff Everything gets taken care of
Review 100:Building site next door, a little noisey first thing Saturday Morning
Review 101:Location, Breakfast and room comfort
Review 102:nothing
Review 103:great location, staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 104:Construction noise
Review 105:Bed too soft! A bit overpriced.
Review 106:Breakfast, position, wireless and reception staff
Review 107:We have just stayed 2 nights. I felt like we were on a Poirot set. Lovely hotel nice breakfast and a fantastic location on the main square.
Review 108:Was intending having a meal in their restaurant which they had not informed us was closed for renovation.
Review 109:The art deco feel, excellent room
Review 110:Shower head in ceiling too high and little pressure.
Review 111:Excellent room
Review 112:Nothing really
Review 113:Location was superb, rooms were clean with good views and facilities
Review 114:We thought we were booked into the beautiful old section of the hotel, and instead found ourselves in the ugly modern addition which was loud and very underwhelming. This is a VERY expensive hotel and though in sure many rooms are lovely they should have indicated that ours was essentially akin to a roadside motel outside Lubbock Texas.
Review 115:The loud partying going all night right under your window - so much so it felt that the bed was on the street - this lasted until 6am
Review 116:The shower was fantastic and the individual duvets for each -
Review 117:Breakfast buffet was not entirely on par with the ambiance & status of the hotel itself. Expected a bit better cooked to order to supplement the buffet of fruit, cereal and baked goods.
Review 118:Very well appointed hotel with courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Rooms were excellent and clean. Location was spot on city center and convenient to everything.
Review 119:The only thing I didn't like was having to leave the room key when going out - anyone could ask for the key!
Review 120:Great location for restaurants & wandering around Reykjavik. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated.
Review 121:The staff could be a bit more warm, but they were not at all rude, they were just a bit too reserved for my tastes. I noticed that the electric outlets by the side of the bed were corroded with stains - that was kind of gross, but otherwise, it was very very clean. The bath tub was too high for me, and if not careful, one could trip and hurt themselves, especially older guests; though there were safety handles, it still felt somewhat cumbersome to me. I thought it was discourteous to not notify incoming guests of the construction next door. That being said, every hotel is guilty of that - nothing too unusual. Just a pet peeve of mine.
Review 122:All in all, a very elegant hotel. Love the location and space of the rooms. The Magasin bar next door is a great asset. I would stay here again.
Review 123:Nothing comes to mind.
Review 124:The class, the elegance, the wonderful views from the windows of snow flakes, ice, Easter processions, airplane landings, warm lights ... beauty. So warm, so comfortable, so luxurious. Thanks!
Review 125:No Hotel Bar! Restaurant was open only for breakfasts.
Review 126:Ideally located in the centre of town. Lovely building, clean and in a quiet location. Pleasant and helpful reception staff.
Review 127:The restaurant was under remodel but we didn't really notice. We had so many choices steps away.
Review 128:Outstanding services to arrange every whim. Just speak and they see to it. Walks are short and sweet to any fine dining or shopping or be whisked away on helicopters or Icelandic horses or Blue Lagoon soaks and return to home base for dinner.
