Reviews for 22 Hill Hotel
Review 1:The staff were very friendly and gave good directions for our day ahead. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was good and we ate in the restaurant as there was a snow storm outside and it was good-expensive by Australian standards but that's normal all over Iceland.
Review 2:We stayed Friday till Sunday. We had booked a northern lights tour for Friday night but due to the weather it was cancelled. We booked another tour for the Saturday night through the receptionist but didn't pay there and then. We sat down to our evening meal before the tour and whilst waiting for food one of us went to reception to pay. It turned out that the receptionist got the time of tour wrong by an hour and the coach was waiting outside. We had to cancel our food and luckily enough we wasn't charged. We had to rush to get changed and then left for the tour hungry. Considering tours run most nights for month the receptionist should haven't told us incorrect information.
Review 3:We stayed in a superior double room. The room was a good size and was clean. The hotel was located about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping area. The hotel restaurant food was nice but there wasn't a wide selection for the breakfast.
Review 4:Same food at every breakfast. It was cold in the room.
Review 5:Nice view from the window. Good location. Clean room. There is all you need to stay for a couple of days.
Review 6:I arrived to Iceland and realised that my luggage had went missing. So after explaining I asked my hotel reception if they had an iPhone charger that I could borrow, and one lady at the reception gave me her personal phone charger without any hesitation. I am so greatful to her for that. Although everyone in the staff was very helpful and friendly. It was my second time at 22 Hill Hotel and I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends. The room was nice and warm, breakfast was good.
Review 7:The bathrooms are quite small i'm 6'5" 240 ls and the shower was a bit of a challenge to get in and out off. The attached restaurant is convenient for dinner, but its very expensive.
Review 8:Staff was great and very helpful with booking a northern lights tour and answering all our questions. Breakfast was good, continental style with lots of options.
Review 9:Perfect for a group trip. Plenty of space in the rooms. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They assisted in planning multiple parts of our trip on the spot. The location is also very walkable to everything in town.
Review 10:The breakfast is lacking from US standards but it was included and that saved us money.
Review 11:Great central location, rooms are sparce but clean. Staff was wonderful! It's a great budget hotel.
Review 12:Really wonderful location. Staff was around at the reception 24/7. The place was spacious and cosy, it was very comfortable for us. We had an excellent view of the mountains that greeted us every morning. Room was big enough for us to leave open 3 big luggage, yet cosy feel at the same time. Was quiet, couldn't hear any sound which is good. Right opposite is Kronur supermarket that opens to 10pm if you need anything late at night. Nicely decorated fireplace/reception/breakfast area that evokes the mood of Xmas. The mountain/street view at breakfast area is nice too, watching the sky turn bright as we had breakfast is a nice experience. I would go back to 22 Hill Street when I come back in summer.
Review 13:Arriving at 2am and going to bed to wake up and discover there is a view of the mountain from the window was nice. Also if you go on any tours it is usually the first or second drop off point.
Review 14:Set in a rather scruffy street.
Review 15:Very friendly staff. Smarter than expected with attached good value restaurant where breakfast is taken. 5 minute walk to the main shopping street far less than perhaps expected. What a pleasant surprise.
Review 16:Breakfast was very good but I would add some pastries ! Other than that everything was super !
Review 17:It was absolutely beautiful . Amazing bed super comfortable the view from my room was incredible !!!! Super clean , staff was something more tha helpful , definitely they do the extra mile for your needs .
Review 18:Absolutely recommend this hotel to the travellers! Clean, tidy, cozy. Very impressed. Just 15mins to the main shopping street. The breakfast is very nice.
Review 19:The facilities in the room are average. The kettle especially is not working well. It is quite small and doesn't work properly.
Review 20:Very close to main bus station, very close to local supermarket, close to town too. Breakfast is really good.
Review 21:Location is very far from city centre and Flybus Plus bus was too big to stop outside the road so had to walk across the road with luggages to the hotel.
Review 22:Breakfast spread is quite good.
Review 23:The staff was exceptional, always ready to assist in making your every request happen. During the Icelandic "hurricane" they made sure we were kept informed and safe.
Review 24:Almost super happy to stay at this hotel, staffs were super nice, and very helpful. Room was clean, Breakfast there were very good and variety. But walking to downtown took are about 20 minutes.
Review 25:I asked for free parking and received an email that it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived there all the parking spaces were taken or reserved for other properties on the street. The lady at the front desk told us that we can park in those reserved places (which we didn't risk) and that there were 2 paid parking places available next to the hotel. She said they were cheap (100 ISK for a few hours) but they were in fact really expensive - the most expensive in Reykjavik (zone P1, 230 ISK for just an hour).
Review 26:The hotel was clean, the room was big, the breakfast was more than decent. The reception is 24/7.
Review 27:Bathroom a bit dated Karate Dojo downstairs a little noisy but only during the day
Review 28:Very helpful staff Comfortable beds Excellent value for money Easy walk into town, but not totally central
Review 29:A window blind cord was broken and only cosmetically fixed, not functionally. The area is very pedestrian and industrial.
Review 30:We liked the view we had of the mountains. The room was serviceable with a nice bathroom. We were allowed late checkout due to an injury sustained on a glacier outing.
Review 31:Food was good both at breakfast and evening meals. All staff friendly and very helpful. My 3rd visit to Iceland this was the best hotel and best value for money....I hope to stay again!
Review 32:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 33:The room was so clean and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. The staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. The Icelandics are such warm friendly people. The hotel had everything it claimed to have and the location was just a short walk into the city
Review 34:Sorounding area is not as nice as I expected, but the access to city centre is not a problem and it didnt affect the overall experience.
Review 35:Amaizing and very helpful staff, room was cosy and clean, view was nice as well.
Review 36:Nothing really.
Review 37:Location close enough to city center, Staff (especially Debourah), checked us in early, Practical room, Awesome view of sea and mountain. Comfortable bed, Resto in house (for bad weather days), Good breakfast buffet. Boxed breakfast when they knew we would check out very early. Very good value for the money
Review 38:20 min walk into the centre of the Main Street in Reykjavik. Absolutely fine for us as both 28 year old girls and don't mind a walk- but it was blooming freezing so made it slightly less pleasant.
Review 39:Good staff- really helped with the ordering of taxis, airport pick up and calling our tour operator and. Breakfast was nice. Simple but good. It included croissants, bread, orange, melon, Hams and cheese. Basics tea and coffee in a bit jug but spot on for what we needed.
Review 40:Room was a bit noisy from busy road just outside.
Review 41:Lovely staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable clean room. Decent location 10-15 mins walk to town centre. Free parking.
Review 42:Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is not far from downtown (10 min walk) and at the same time it allows easy and free parking in the street and a quick drive out of Reykjavik.
Review 43:Location was a little bit out but certainly not a deal breaker
Review 44:Friendly Staff and very helpful staff with attraction recommendations Very clean and comfortable room with very comfortable bed
Review 45:We did not have a bad experience at all but a few hooks in the bathroom would have been very useful!
Review 46:The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food restaurant in the evening was very good.
Review 47:Very nice hotel, great value for the money, very accomdating staff, great breakfast included and location was good too. 15-20 minute walk to downtown. We asked for a room with a view when we got there and receptionist moved things around and gave us a beautiful view. Could not ask for more
Review 48:The room was really comfy, the breakfast was great, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel was in a quiet location, but still close enough to the centre of town to easily walk to things.
Review 49:Window looked out onto a graffiti filled building across the street. We needed to drive to museums, etc.
Review 50:Room was clean and spacious, breakfast was good, hotel was convenient to a street with dinner options
Review 51:Everything was fine in the hotel.
Review 52:There was enough space in the room, though we had an extra bed for our 11 years old granddaughter. The room was also tidy. The personnel was exceptionally friendly, and the in-house-restaurant offered excellent food.
Review 53:The staff were very friendly & helpful especially Deborah who booked trips for us & was a pleasure to deal with. Lovely room. Great breakfast. Good location.
Review 54:I've stayed for 3 nights. 22 Hill Hotel was more then perfect. The staff was really nice, and ready to help you when you needed some help. The breakfast was perfect.
Review 55:Walls a bit thin so could hear noises from other rooms.
Review 56:Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was clean with a lovely shower and a great location for all activities. Breakfast was nice. Wifi was brilliant. A really pleasant, nice place to stay.
Review 57:Clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Good restaurant. A bit further from the city centre (25 min walk) than many hotels but knew this when we booked. Be prepared to get wet if walking into/back from town. Parking available immediately outside hotel - easy to get in/out of city if hiring car. There will, I'm sure, be many less clean, less friendly, less accessible and more expensive hotels nearer the centre.
Review 58:the day we were leaving had an early pickup for the airport and the doors were locked and no-one was at the front desk to open them for us and the bus was waiting outside the bus driver was not pleased but there was nothing we could do! But we did finally find out how to open the door!
Review 59:the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 60:Friendly staff...organised tours for me and made me feel at home. I loved the restaurant on the premises...meant dinner was sorted too. I would not mind going back on my next trip.
Review 61:It was in an industrial area and I felt uncomfortable. It did not have a refrigerator in the room. The room was very tiny. And based on all this, it was way overpriced.
Review 62:Not much. the staff was nice.
Review 63:Breakfast wasn't as extensive as we had expected. But good quality.
Review 64:Staff were great, very helpful, made things easy for us. Clean. Bed comfortable. TV had BBC1. Lots of local info
Review 65:No bad experiences. The location is just a bit of a walk from the center of the old town. Not bad, but not as convenient as it could have been.
Review 66:The staff at reception were extremely friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for more. The food at the hotel was also quite good and far better than expected.
Review 67:Staff was very helpful in arranging tours and providing information about the area. We had to leave at 4:30 am for a very early flight. The made coffee and packed a breakfast for us. Tours and the bus to the airport picked us up at the hotel so it was very convenient.
Review 68:A little more of a walk than expected to main points of interest in downtown Reykjavík, especially during stormy weather. Not a deal breaker though..
Review 69:Friendly, helpful staff. Polite. Room was nice, except the view of the garbage bins from my hotel room. Easy to find my way back after walking somewhere.
Review 70:The evening meal in the restaurant was good, but service took and eternity and one of the waitresses was distinctly unfriendly!
Review 71:Friendly, comfortable with excellent reception staff
Review 72:The area is sort of run down but the hotel itself is nice once you are in the building. The views from the windows are of alleys, weedy parking lots, and industrial-like businesses. There is a Martial Arts studio in the building. I kept hearing yelling while in my room on the 2nd floor. It took me a while to figure out it was the students. It was quiet by the time we came back from dinner. Must walk several blocks to nearest restaurant unless you eat at hotel.
Review 73:The rooms are very nice and comfortable. Walking distance from nice shopping area. Nice price for a downtown hotel.
Review 74:None -- excellent experience overall.
Review 75:Lovely hotel -- would prefer the entrance ramp to be less steep. Everything else was fine. Very good bargain as this is a costly place, generally.
Review 76:This was the most expensive accommodation in our 3 week vacation, but not the best. The bathroom was clean but slightly aged. The breakfast was simple: e.g. no eggs, no bacon, bad chocolate cookies. We had to pay extra for the cappuccino. There was only common filter coffee included.
Review 77:Friedly and helpfully staff. We had problems with the water pressure of the shower and rusty water at the washbasin. We could change the room, immediately. As we had to leave the hotel at 5 am to the airport, we got a breakfast bag (sandwich and orange juice) and some coffee.
Review 78:The property isn't the most updated, but it's clean and the beds are comfortable.
Review 79:Wonderful view from room! Very well laid out and equipped. The shower is very small, but beds are comfortable, the breakfast is typical European fare and well stocked and refreshed. The location is a few block from the main center of Reykjavik, but easily walkable. The front desk staff were very friendly and helped with any requests. Windows open for fresh air and to cool off in July.
Review 80:Reception staff was exceptionally helpful and warm. From the outside the hotel looks old but the rooms are nice clean big and new. The flybus can pick and drop from this hotel which is quite convinient.
Review 81:Thw bedroom had great big windows but was overlooked by other apartments at the back of the hotel so we kept the curtains closed. Breakfast was limited.
Review 82:The girl at reception was very nice & helpful when we were checking in. Room was lovely and clean.
Review 83:Tiny sink in bathroom. Hotel 35 minutes' walk from harbour/Harpa Building so you need to enjoy walking!
Review 84:Comfortable room, with kettle etc., good breakfast, WONDERFUL staff who can help with everything (left me a breakfast bag at 6am for an early flight}. Very good restaurant also. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 85:No washcloth and the shampoo was less than good.
Review 86:The people at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful. I liked that the Flybus picked up and dropped off there. The room was clean and I had a great view. Dinner was fabulous.
Review 87:From the outside, it didn't look much, but inside, it was really nice.
Review 88:Clean, comfortable. Very friendly receptionist. She set us up with a reservation at a fine restaurant at the last minute. Loved that they prepared us a takeaway breakfast the next day because our flight was so early.
Review 89:Strange sulphurous eggs at breakfast. I think it's the hot water in Iceland.
Review 90:Large room with 3 beds. Clean bathroom. Really reasonably priced and highly recommended for travellers who want a place to sleep at night and no silly frills. Why spend time indoors in Iceland?
Review 91:Great saff in all areas. Excellent breakfast selection. 1 block off the main shopping street and only a short walk to shops, restaurants and the waterfront. Plus safe on street parking.
Review 92:It's bare bones.
Review 93:Arranged tours all seem to start the pick up at 22 Hill and we were always the first dropped off. Room was basic but all we needed. Location is a good walk in and out of the downtown core. Some of the staff very personable, others not so much. Hotel had a key issue with our room - there was only 1 key and we were told if it was lost they would have to make a new one. Also, we arrived around 8:30 am after an all night flight and were told rooms would not be ready till 2. No surprise there but it would have been nice to have been offered a cup of coffee. It's welcoming and hospitable. Considering how many Icelandair flights arrive early I would have donuts and coffee for all my weary travellers before telling them to hit the streets for 4 hours!
Review 94:No bad experience. Could be closer in to downtown, but that was an issue for us mainly because one of our party was in a wheelchair.
Review 95:Staff was very helpful, very professional.
Review 96:While it is certainly true that the hotel is very close to Laugavegur, the main shopping street, it is certainly not the downtown part of Laugavegur that is actually close, so one certainly has the feeling that the city centre is a bit far away. The TV was not working.
Review 97:The room was very comfortable (also quite spacious), the staff was friendly, and the wireless connection was excellent.
Review 98:Clean, very helpful and accommodating staff. Very quiet. A BIT of a walk from downtown but not un-doable (10 minutes). Shower door didn't close very well and the door lock failed to shut unless you worked at it. Definitely 9/10. I would happily return.
Review 99:HOTEL QUITE FAR AWAY FROM THE CITY CENTER. NEED BY WALK AROUND 20 TO 30 MINUTES TO GO WALKING STREET.
Review 100:HOTEL STAFFS VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. I GOT CLEAN ROOM AND SIZE IS NOT SMALL. DUE TO TAKE EARLY MORNING FLIGHT NO WAY TO HAVE BREAKFAST IN THE HOTEL BUT STAFF GAVE US BREAKFAST BOX BEFORE WE LEAVING HOTEL. WARMLY...
Review 101:Staff here was wonderful! Helpful! Great breakfast! You get a discount at restaurant for dinner! Soup, salad and bread was a bargain and filling! Good location, free parking, free wofi, free map! Clean, well equipped rooms. Great price! A winner!
Review 102:The breakfast was a little boring
Review 103:The woman who worked in reception when we arrived had notice that i had birthday so we had a nice bottle of bubbel in the room and our dougther had some soft and choclate
Review 104:From the outsite you dont think this is a hotel! The bathroom needs a renovation!
Review 105:This hotel is very good the stuff is always happy to help you and they have always a smile on there face! The room was nice breakfast was good! Walking distance is only 5-10min and the busstation is around the corner
Review 106:Good location, staff were really helpful. Let us check in much earlier than expected. They also booked us a free shuttle to the bus terminal and let us go in to get breakfast early. Overal a good experience!
Review 107:Very friendly and helpful staff. Advice on selection of tours. Reasonable walk into town. Excellent restaurant attached to hotel. Black-out blinds as well as curtains
Review 108:Reception staff, Unnur, Debra and Dalia helped me with every aspect of my stay, from selecting and booking tours to dealing with currency. I was upgraded to a better room on arrival and I appreciated this. 22 Hill Hotel is a safe place for a solo female traveller and serves a good breakfast.
Review 109:This is an excellent hotel in a very convenient location. Ignore comments about the walk to town being long, the main shopping street starts just around the corner from the hotel and it is a pleasant and easy walk into town. The receptionist at the hotel could not have been more friendly and helpful. She was a font of information and ready to offer advice on most queries. She was probably the most competent and helpful hotel receptionist we have met.
Review 110:The location is a bit off. But having said that, Reykjavik is not a big city. It was possible to walk in 15 minutes. There was also a possibility to take bus 14 or 15 that was short stop away.
Review 111:Really friendly staff. Always accomodating and happy to help. On my last day i checked out at 5am due to my early flight, and the front desk staff arranged a take away bag with breakfast for me as breakfast starts at 7am.
Review 112:The receptionist was so helpful, recommending & booking us a lovely restaurant & changing our bed configuration around when I changed my mind on arrival. Very good breakfast, about a 20 min walk into town. Free parking as it was the weekend. Would definitely recommend.
Review 113:If the weather is bad, the 15-20 minute walk to the shopping area is a bit painful. Lovely when the weather is OK though.
Review 114:Very comfortable, excellent value, easy parking.
Review 115:Cannot fault a thing. Transport second to none, everyone so pleasant, facilities great.
Review 116:First impressions were not great, graffitti on walls. But after that we found the hotel, staff, guides were so professional and friendly we started enjoying our break straight away. A wonderful trip.
Review 117:excellent hotel, comfortable, the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful and the food was great (expensive by UK prices but we thought it was good value for Icelandic restaurants). Can walk into Reykjavik main centre easily and to the harbour is a little further but definitely walkable or a short taxi ride if you prefer. We would definitely go back again and stay here.
Review 118:Nothing to fault this hotel however it is not bang in the centre of the city but very easy to walk to, enjoyed looking at the shops along the way
Review 119:The welcome, nothing was too much trouble, even an early breakfast. The room for three adults sharing was large, very clean and had amazing views out over the bay and beyond Breakfast was a wide choice and good quality Will stay here again on my return to Iceland
Review 120:Nice straight-forward hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms & nothing too fancy. Great value as only 5 mins walk from city centre. Staff were incredibly helpful (best in Iceland) & went above & beyond for us. Great for a first night if you need lots of info.
Review 121:Shower was a bit small, but that's not a drawback, as the shower was OK ultimately. The only obvious dislike was that we found our room somewhat unclean (in towels, in bed and in the bathroom) but the staff replaced our towels straight away.
Review 122:Nice hotel, location is some 10-15 min from the heart of the city, parking OK, nice breakfast.
