Reviews for Fosshotel Baron
Review 1:There was some glass broken on the floor and after telling the staff it was still there 45 minutes later. Any child could have picked it up as was small pieces from a drinking glass.
Review 2:The room was stunning and had a amazing feel to it. Shower was good and all round clean.
Review 3:Great location near shopping street and restaurants but also fairly quiet. We were upgraded to an apartment which was very spacious and clean. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice. Very helpful staff.
Review 4:Great view from top floor (sea view) rooms; breakfast as good as ever - the 4th time we've stayed here. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. This year we saw the Northern Lights from our room - and a stunning display from the car park outside. Definitely don't rely on this though, they are fickle and elusive and this was our first and only sighting of them - a lucky bonus for us because that wasn't the reason for any of our visits here. The hotel organises an excellent Northern Lights tour with a local guide (minibus not one of the huge tour buses) highly recommended.
Review 5:Not the biggest room, bathroom floor floods when showering
Review 6:Really good breakfast and good wifi connection. Really good for quickly getting in to town.
Review 7:The wifi was useless. I was on a business trip, so was lucky not to have to use it in earnest.
Review 8:Good Location w.r.t. Buses, and Town Centre/ Shopping
Review 9:Shower area is not separated so the toilet gets wet easily. Hotel is quite old. Two beds joined together instead of a double bed. Breakfast area quite small.
Review 10:They had a waffle maker and a small variety of Icelandic food served for breakfast which made it quite interesting. Liked how it's near the lower end of the shopping street (although quite a walk to the main hustle bustle area). We had a view of the sea though which was nice!
Review 11:Rooms are really tiny, staff was helpful, but not friendly, pillows were lumpy foam, beds not as soft as other Iceland hotels. Actual keys for rooms that you had to turn in each time you left the hotel. There are nicer hotels in the area for the same the cost.
Review 12:Location by the sea front was nice.
Review 13:The shower was ridiculously small (and it leaked!) and the Wi-Fi was spotty at best. The actual layout of breakfast was cumbersome and disorganised.
Review 14:Professional appearance and the reception staff went above and beyond! Exceptional service. Breakfast was an excellent selection.
Review 15:The room was too small for two people. Clearly no space for 2 pieces of luggage - I kept mine under the bed. Also, once they did not clean our room for no reason.
Review 16:I will miss these sausages for breakfast! Nice clean room, helpful personnel. Still, breakfast was the best thing there, a great start of the day.
Review 17:The hotel is a bit expensive and the hotel room is very small. The water smells like rotten egg.
Review 18:The people are warm, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is great. Breakfast is delicious.
Review 19:Wifi is not reliable, it was so spotty in my room I was unable to use it, the staff says this is the case with certain rooms that are far from the server. So it's luck of the draw and they will not discount your stay based on the trouble. The show smells of sulfur and stings the eyes.
Review 20:Location was two streets away from a block of shops and across from a walk on the water. Easy to book excursions w pickup in hotel lot. Breakfast is good.
Review 21:We (2 adult and teenager) stayed in Baron for 3 nights and been very pleased. We stayed in room 200 (special thanks to Natalia who recommend me this room) with 3 beds. Room was big with huge balcony, location is very good, breakfast was very good and staff was very nice and always ready to help. I would definitely will stay in this hotel next time
Review 22:The carpet in room really needed cleaning and would have liked extra pillows.
Review 23:Great location. Right on harbour and only short walk to Main Street for shopping and restaurants. Very quiet at night with windows to open for fresh air. Slept great. Best breakfast we had on whole trip. Lots of variety and hot egg and sausage. Nice pastries. Excellent coffee. Staff at front desk very friendly and helpful.
Review 24:In summer in Iceland and the curtain didn't actually cover the window! Room size was ok but could actually have used more space for the shower room. Carpet needed a good clean.
Review 25:Staff were overall friendly and helpful. Good location - near to shops and restaurants.
Review 26:long corridor from elevator to our room was made difficult to navigate with luggage due to two sets of steps (with three risers each).
Review 27:Heritage room with sloped ceiling made room look different from the norm and quite unusual.
Review 28:seemed some confusion over our booking when arrived, had the impression they had to quickly find some rooms. Two couples but we were not allowed to pay separately as one booking, other hotels allowed this.
Review 29:good breakfast, free parking, central location.
Review 30:This hotel could use an update, but room was clean, comfortable and staff was friendly. Breakfast was great. Location also worked out really well for walking around the town.
Review 31:No bacon at breakfast One morning there were too many guests for breakfast as a huge tour group turned up. Some advance planning of this would have been good as one of the problems was not enough seats because tables weren't being cleared quick enough. A fridge in the room would have been nice
Review 32:Heritage room is beautifully furnished and so charming you don't want to leave it! Real double bed rather than two singles pushed together
Review 33:Room was quite small. Hard to exercise . Good that the bed was high because there was no where to put the open suitcases except under the bed!
Review 34:Great value, close to all the sites, fabulous breakfast, very helpful staff
Review 35:Such a great location. 5 minute walk away from the main shopping street that has loads of restaurants and shops, and a 2 minute walk from the nearest car rental company. Breakfast buffet had a delicious and wide selection of fruits and cereals to vegetables, fish and even a waffle machine.
Review 36:The pictures were a lot prettier than our actual room. The room was very small, outdated and didn't have any electrical outlets close to one of the single beds. Couldn't move freely in the shower, as it was so small you almost got tangled up in the shower curtain. So, based on expectations, I was a little disappointed.
Review 37:Breakfast was great. Lots of options, hot and cold.
Review 38:The vent in the bathroom was running 24/7 and I couldn't find a way to switch it off. It was not a big deal, but you could here some constant noise coming from the vent.
Review 39:It's a good hotel for all those who don't need extra luxury. It is clean and the bed was comfortable. Location is great and breakfast was very satisfying
Review 40:I would have liked to see some info about wifi - I saw no info in my room about this and never asked for help (though the staff were friendly and helpful).
Review 41:Great view of the harbour from my 5th-floor room which was modern, clean and stylish. Early breakfast available even at the time of my 4 am departure.
Review 42:Leaving the key in the reception when going out. Sometimes the receptionist/s are busy with other hotel clients so you may have to wait for a while to get your key back.
Review 43:Comfortable, but basic rooms. Bring your own soap, shampoo etc. if you prefer not to use the shower gel/shampoo combination the hotel provides. The hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance from supermarket, shopping street Laugavegur, Harpa concert hall. Well worth booking a room with sea view. Great selection of food at breakfast. The hotel reception can help in booking tours. When you pay the hotel bill, make sure you get a receipt, you may need to present it when you check out. I had paid mine, still the "system" claimed I had not paid.
Review 44:The car park and pedestrian access was covered in solid rutted ice the whole time we were there, really dangerous and no attempt was made to clear it (a bit of black sand just outside the door doesn't count as an attempt!)
Review 45:The location was good, the staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were good. What do you want when you have gone to see things 'outside'? It was warm and welcoming and all the tour buses stopped there. A couple of minutes up the road and you were on the main street with restaurants and shops etc.
Review 46:Property is very dated. Lobby is cold and small and uninviting. The front desk staff is not particularly welcoming or friendly.
Review 47:The bartender was great. Also the breakfast is fabulous and fresh and replenished right until the end.
Review 48:The hot water comes from geothermal source so smells quite strongly of sulphur, it took the children a while to get used to it. Cold water was from a borehole so fine.
Review 49:Location was great. I booked an apartment so had loads of space, 2 bedrooms, large living area. Breakfast was excellent. Happy hour was well attended.
Review 50:We were allocated room 210 as we were a group of 4. The second bedroom was very small with no storage facilities, no shelves, no hooks on the walls or door to hang anything. We had to spend the whole time living out of suitcases which has to stay in the lounge area as there was nowhere to put them in this small bedroom.
Review 51:Staff were great, would definitely visit again.
Review 52:Only bad thing I can say is that on the hotel description it said there was a make your own waffles facility at breakfast but I saw no such facility during my stay. However breakfast was still lovely and was a good selection!
Review 53:It was a great location and nice hotel. 24hr hotel reception was very handy as people were often coming in later after trips to see the northern lights.
Review 54:Very friendly staff who tries to help as much as possible! Large breakfast buffet with plenty of food! Close to both the city center and water front!
Review 55:Very friendly staff. Location of the hotel is central to the downtown area. Can walk to most facilities such as shopping, restaurants, and tour buses. This was our second time staying and will stay a third time.
Review 56:The bed was a bit hard and lumpy but was ok. Only single duvets (but wastold this was the norm in iceland, I asked to change rooms and the otherroom had 2 single duvets as well). Only a few channels but I found mynew favorite show 'brain game' that was on the DiscoveryChannel. Stay at this hotel.
Review 57:Location was amazing. Central, by ocean, 24hr shop next to it. It'sa well known hotel and the excursion coaches pick you up at the hotel.Lots to chose from for breakfast: sausages and scrambled eggs, pastries, waffle iron (yum!) fruit, toast, ham, cheese, loads! Get a room with aview of the ocean - an amazing view and we saw the nothern lights fromthe hotel room. Free christmas cookies!!!! Loved loved loved my stayhere - amazing value for money. Staff helpful when we were booking ourtours (you can book your excursions at the hotel). You can also buypostcards and post them at the hotel.
Review 58:We can't think of anything we did not like concerning the hotel, but we found Iceland very expensive.
Review 59:Location - easy reach of main street and city amenities. Very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Hotel was really warm and comfortable - great choice at breakfast too!
Review 60:Nothing to complain about!!!
Review 61:The location of the FossHotel Baron is excellent, so near to the shops and across from the seafront, the room was very warm, staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, the breakfast choice was excellent and varied...it catered for all people, would definetely use this hotel again if we came back to Reykjavik.
Review 62:Decor looks a little tired. TV very poor reception.
Review 63:Great breakfast, helpful staff, able to arrange and book excursions including airport return travel through reception. Very close to harbour and main shopping restaurant & bar areas. Happy hour ! I would book this hotel again.
Review 64:Bedroom a bit small and no shelf space for clothes. Shelves would have been better than the desk that was provided. Shower very compact but loads of hot water.
Review 65:Hotel very clean, comfortable and warm.In a very convenient position for the main shopping street of the town and very near the sea. Beautiful view across the bay to the snow capped mountains. Staff friendly and helpful, excellent breakfast selection.Comfortable bed.Good value for money
Review 66:A fabric curtain in a tiny shower and the poor placement of the shower head make it difficult to have a shower comfortably. The curtain seemed unhygienic.
Review 67:nice view, could walk to most of city core in 10 minutes or less
Review 68:Shower head needed de-scaling, dripped rather than poured. Bathroom floor flooded with every shower, could not clear and consequently had to take of footwear to enter bathroom after showering.
Review 69:Location to all amenities Comfort of Bed Temperature control of room Varied breakfast choices Happy hour 5 - 7pm
Review 70:Lovely hotel, very well placed within Reykjavik city, everything is withing walking distance, but still far enough removed to have a nice quiet night without the city noise.Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful always. Room spacious, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with many choices from hot food to pastries, cereals and yoghurts, cheeses - spoiled for choice.
Review 71:Saknade diskborste för självhushåll
Review 72:Perfect service with breakfast as early a s0330am. This was really appreciated and something the big expensive hotels should learn from.
Review 73:That we had to leave...
Review 74:we stayed twice, first three, and two weeks later one night. The first room was a small appartment with sofa, dining area for four. Second room more typical, yet clean. WiFi works well. Excellent breakfast, both in choice and service.
Review 75:Sofa in living area torn and in need of replacement . Fixtures and fittings in rooms very basic and functional
Review 76:We had a 2 bed apartment which worked well when travelling with teenagers. Rooms are basic, but the addition of cooking facilities would be a bonus had we been staying longer. Sofa in living area was in need of replacement and sadly made an otherwise fresh looking room down. Breakfast was excellent and staff lovely. Location is good with views over the water
Review 77:The room was not sufficiently clean with long hair from previous guest (or room maids) on the floor
Review 78:Great location, large apartment with kitchen, good breakfast, helpful staff at the reception desk
Review 79:good location and good value for money, accommodation a bit on the basic side but a decent quality breakfast and friendly staff

Review 123:Staff was very supportive and the breakfast provided was excellent.
Review 124:older.soffa needed updated. room for 4 adults lacked seating space in livingroom

Review 126:One of the rare good hotels in Iceland and even for a fair price. If you compare to other hotels in Iceland you could rate it as excellent.
Review 127:A basic room for such a high price - 165 EUR. But accommodation costs extremely expensive these days in Iceland in general.
Review 128:Nice staff
Review 129:The room was rather average for the price.
Review 130:The breakfast buffet was very good, apart from the orange juice.
Review 131:Plenty of groups that we about to leave same time so the restaurant 110 % full some 60 min. Aircon would be nice some days.
