Reviews for Borgo Il Melone
Review 1:Friendly, gracious, helpful staff and also an exceptionally comfortable, well appointed, clean room. The breakfast is very tasty with nice variety of food choices to start your morning.
Review 2:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was set in a beautiful location. Unfortunately we had to leave early as my husband was unwell.
Review 3:The only difficulty was entering and exiting the driveway to the property. The entrance was narrow and not well marked. Exiting was a bit dangerous due to blind entrance and fast moving traffic.
Review 4:The staff was warm, friendly and helpful. The grounds and buildings are beautiful and well maintained.
Review 5:Couldn't really fault it!!
Review 6:A really amazing property in a fantastic location. Very good set up with the accommodation, restaurant, swimming pool, gardens and so on. Really helpful and friendly staff. Would recommend this property to anyone.
Review 7:Finding the place on arrival. Need a sign or two about 500 metres or so before approaching one of the 3 entrances from either direction.
Review 8:Beautiful grounds and centrally located to Cortona and other small towns
Review 9:Although the ristorante staff were extremely gracious and the food delicious, the menu was repetitive and could use a bit more variety as well as fresh vegetables, fruit and salads.
Review 10:The room was beautiful. The staff helped several times planning our side trips in Tuscany by printing up maps and travel directions!
Review 11:The restaurant. The food was not great. Also quite expensive. We enjoyed the breakfast though.
Review 12:Borgo ll Melone is beautiful! We were so impressed with the whole property. The staff were very friendly and helpful! They organised a taxi for us from the train station - that picked us up on time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Our room was clean & had everything we need for a great stay.
Review 13:Nothing
Review 14:From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the wonderful Vincenco we felt welcome. The hotel is located out of Cortona and the grounds are fabulous. Our room was spacious and the added bonus of a terrace made our stay very comfortable. The onsite restaurant was great and the chef Christiano made a very special effort to make our stay enjoyable. We used the hotel as a base to visit the wonderful hilltop towns of Tuscany. This is a marvellous property and would highly recommend.
Review 15:Walls could be thicker (ground floor), neighbors' activities and voices can be heard.
Review 16:Great location, just 3 km to go to Cortona. Clean and well equipped rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and restaurant.
Review 17:It was far from the actual town of Cortona with limited transportation options, it wasn't the hotel itself just the location. And we had a few spiders in our room!
Review 18:The grounds are very beautiful and well maintained. The room was great, very spacious.
Review 19:The restaurant was awful, the hotel is not convenient for Cortona if you want to go for a meal and drink and the room didn't feel clean.
Review 20:The grounds are pleasant
Review 21:We liked the ambience, the fact that everything was well spaced out & privacy was very evident with all guests. It was a welcome relief from the hectic pace of Florence.
Review 22:Restaurant availability somewhat unpredictable. Lack of storage space in the room including drawer space.
Review 23:Lovely clean pool, location near to Cortona, helpful, friendly staff. Property within beautiful grounds.
Review 24:Air condition is not as what we are used in the US but I find that this is all over Europe not only at this hotel.
Review 25:Beautiful setting, clean and the staff was out of this world, very helpful. My wife got hurt and the staff when out of their way to help me with making phone calls to cancel my other reservations etc. I would highly recommend Borgo il Melone and since we were not able to complete our vacation when I come back I will make sure that I will stay at Borgo il Melone.
Review 26:Disappointing breakfast selection, scrambled eggs were not kept hot. The restaurant menu could have been a bit more inspiring.
Review 27:The location is good for exploring southern Tuscany and northern Umbria. Attractive gardens and excellent swimming pool.
Review 28:air conditioning in room was insufficient , lighting in room was not enough
Review 29:staff was wonderful, helpful, friendly. seemed to always really want to help make our stay better and better.
Review 30:'Didn't like' seems strong, having had such a wonderful stay, but the variety of buffet options at breakfast was a little limited.
Review 31:The restaurant was fabulous! Cristiano is a wonderful chef, and gave us some really good tips for places to go in and around Cortona. He also came up with some very good wine suggestions. The other members of staff were equally helpful and friendly. The pool area is also glorious - perfect for louging around with a glass of wine or two and a good book.
Review 32:The apartments/ executive suites don't have air conditioning only a portable air conditioner available on request. The restaurant food is not good and very expensive.
Review 33:Staff were excellent couldn't do enough, friendly and superb with children. Swimming pool was excellent beautiful location and well looked after.
Review 34:there were nice areas to walk our dogs through olive orchards and on grass with fruit trees. The pool was huge and a welcome respite from the tuscan sun. the food was good and the upper deck where dinner is served has a portion where beautiful sunset pictures can be taken. everyone was friendly.
Review 35:The rooms lack AC. Althougt portable AC were provided, it was not sufficient to cool all bedrooms in the suite. Remember to keep windows closed during night to keeps bats out.
Review 36:Very nice pool. Beautiful grounds. Staff were very helpful.
Review 37:The hotel is perfect in every sense. There are two areas which are good to know beforehand.the location can be problematic if you dont have a car. The taxi system is not very available. We didnt have a problem because the reception arranged taxis but just be aware of this problem. The second point is the restaurant. It is a seperate entity and when you dont go to the city for dinner you are obliged to eat in an expensive and limited menu of this rest.
Review 38:Wonderful garden, beautiful rooms and very sympathetic staff. This was the best hotel we stayed in italy
Review 39:There is no bar area near pool for easy access to drinks and snacks, though they can be ordered from reception. You need to drive into Cortona and parking can be difficult at busy times.
Review 40:Lovely spacious grounds, beautiful gardens and pool area. Great restaurant on site.
Review 41:The staff in the restaurant were outrageously rude. We ate there the night we arrived and while the food was alright, the people were ridiculous. The other disappointment was that the suites are not air conditioned despite what the internet site says. Perhaps the "rooms" in other buildings are but not the suites and this was unclear.
Review 42:The gorgeous grounds and the pool are fantastic. The breakfasts were very good. The location is great if you have a car and are planning a lot of day trips in Tuscany and Umbria. We went to Arezzo, Montepulciano, Dureta, Assisi and Pienza for a day each with lots of trips up the hill to fabulous Cortona.
Review 43:It was low to mid 90s daily during our visit and there is no air conditioning in the suites/apartments away from the main hotel. The breakfast is nothing to write home about.
Review 44:The hotel staff is extraordinarily nice and helpful. They went to all ends to help us during our stay, particularly by providing portable ACs. The grounds are beautiful. Cristiano, the owner of the restaurant, is fantastic. He led a wonderful cooking class for me, my wife, and our 5/9 yr old daughters.
Review 45:If I had to say anything, I was disappointed we had the handicapped room, but the manor was fully occupied. It was still a lovely room.
Review 46:Excellent value for the money, lovely staff who went out of their way and a super restaurant right on the property with a chef who knows his food. Our dinners at the property were amazing.
Review 47:The bed was harder than I am used to but that includes every bed I slept in on my vacation to Italy. I was also disappointed that I had to walk/drive almost two blocks to iron my clothes. The facility there was not managed very well either.
Review 48:From check-in to check-out I was more than pleased by everyone I came in contact with. This includes the breakfast facility and the restaurant. The breakfasts were a real treat. Plenty of choices and the ability to eat outside on the patio.
Review 49:The staff was always there to assist and make your stay memorable. The breakfast and fresh made coffee every morning started the day out just perfect! Loved the game/library salon. It was too cold to use the pool, but it still looked inviting.
Review 50:When we had to leave :(
Review 51:The welcome and general friendliness of staff, The beautiful pool area, the position of il Melone in relation to Cortona. Perfect hotel for a honeymoon.
Review 52:We missed a little more variety in the breakfast buffet. But its true that the hotel was almost empty and I can understand the could not display a full range of products for so few people.
Review 53:The place, the buildings and the gardens are fantastic. And the swimming pool, incredible.
Review 54:GPS has problem to get there according to the address. BUT the staff were very kind to meet us up and lead us at midnight.
Review 55:Beautiful place, kind and helpful staff, close to Cortona
Review 56:Friendly and helpful staff, who are always ready to offer help. The surroundings and facility is good, which exceeds my expectation. The breakfast is pretty good and we had a wonderful stay there! This is a place sure to stay, and above all, this is the best hotel my husband ranked over the several hotels we stayed for this trip in Italy!
Review 57:The beds were rather hard and the pillows were flat and soft. Extra pillows in the room would have been fixed that problem.
Review 58:The location was very close to Cortona. The restaurant at night was quite that said the food & wine choice was excellent. Hotel staff one of the friendliest group we have ever come across.
Review 59:When we booked, we understood that we would have the use of a kitchenette but this was not available when we arrived. We would have liked to have been able to make tea or coffee and a snack which would have made our trip less expensive. However, the breakfast we had was excellent.
Review 60:The gardens were beautiful and the apartment very comfortable and clean. The staff were very polite, smiled at us and were helpful.
Review 61:Breakfast and the restaurant doesn't worse the try not one of the best food I had in Italy my advise to eat in Cortona not the hotel restaurant
Review 62:The staff were so nice they had high since of hospitality and so friendly I felt they are happy to have us and welcome us first time in my whole life enter an hotel and feel like home. Land scape around the hotel is magical quite and lovely. Swimming pool was big and nice. Took a taxi to Cortona for 15 euros which is nothing comparing to the great landscape we saw from their.
Review 63:Restaurant was not value for money. Food good but portions extremely small. We are not into big portions but these were very very small. However there are many other restaurants where food and portions are value for money.
Review 64:Everything. Friendly staff, great welcome, great room, really comfortable. Grounds and gardens beautiful. Breakfast was fabulous.
Review 65:Only negative was the noise from the road
Review 66:Large interesting historical property. Very courteous staff, clean spacious room. Would be a great place to hold a conference, there is a beautiful building, not attached but part of the complex
Review 67:Trying to find the place was a nightmare. GPS did not recognise the address.
Review 68:Staff were wonderfully friendly, room great - on site restaurant served beautiful cuisine. A great stay.
Review 69:No-one seemd to be in charge of the restaurant, with the quailty of food and service suffering as a result.
Review 70:A great location for visiting Cortona. Beautiful grounds. High quality fittiings and furnishings.
Review 71:We stayed here for 7 nights. The staff Alessandro and Vincenzo service was kind, very helpful and professional. They helped us dinner reservation Cortona historical center. Borgo Il Melone was a great place to base ourselves, as we did day trips to Arezzo, Firenze, Perugia, Orvieto, Todi... which were all well worth a visit. We like everything and can only recommend this beautiful place. Really loved our stay Borgo Il Melone.
Review 72:When you arrive to the hotel, you will find a wonderful property with gardes and amazing views. Staff is extremely nice and helpfull. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are more american style than european (they are super big!). Breakfast was OK. They have a restaurant inside the hotel as well.
Review 73:Bed design and linens were dreary.
Review 74:We loved the grounds and country estate style, pool area looked stunning also but was under repair. The staff was lovely, patient, and helpful. Breakfast very nice. Very easy to find with large sign at entrance right off the main road.
Review 75:slight issue with payment of bill but quickly sorted out by Gloria.
Review 76:Very easy to find. Pleasant, friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely location close to Cortona.
Review 77:A little close to a major road - wish it would have been a bit more secluded. If you are coming from the US and you didn't bring a car, rent one in a neighboring city and drive down. We came in on the train without a car and it was impossible to get around (the only cars rented nearby are "semi-automatic" and pretty bad). Other than the need for a car (and we still figured it out), this region is incredible. Do not skip out!
Review 78:Nearly everything. The staff, the room, the region. This part of our journey through Europe was one of the highlights most certainly. The rate we paid was very reasonable and the food in the area is to die for! If you stay, try Canta Napoli. It's within walking distance and probably the best food - pizza, pasta, seafood, everything - we had in our weeks of travel in Italy!!!
Review 79:Apartment dark and cold. No WIFI in apartment. we had to go into the reception area. Breakfast not included but could purchase for 8 euro. Confusing with Cortona address but actually located in next town.
Review 80:Excellent, friendly, helpful staff with all speaking very good English. Nice patio near reception area where we enjoyed our wine, beautiful grounds. Nice selection for 8 euro breakfast.
Review 81:Wonderful hotel for relaxing and seeing the sites. Close to wineries and located just outside of Cortona. Safe, comfortable, and the staff are very helpful.
Review 82:Noise from upstairs apartment very annoying due to wooden floors Noise from nearby main road
Review 83:Helpful staff Well located for Cortona and train connection to Florence Fantastic pool and gardens Superb apartment (but too big for 4 and would be better value for 6/8 sharing the cost)
Review 84:The restaurant was closed, although a buffet breakfast was included. Because of the locality you needed a car to get to the local shop if you wanted to buy snacks, drinks, etc.
Review 85:I liked the setting. It was very peaceful and relaxing. I also liked the fact that there were only 12 rooms, I believe, which meant that very often we had the pool to ourselves! Ideal for couples or families with older children wanting to get away from it all.
Review 86:The only thing that could have been better was wifi that worked better in our room, but then we wouldn't have hung out in the comfortable couch area (with great wifi) and met so many nice people.
Review 87:Beautiful accomadation with gorgeous grounds and pool. Fabulous breakfast was included. But best part is the most gracious, friendly, accomadating, helpful and pleasant staff we could have asked for. Really loved everything.
Review 88:WE ARRIVED AAT 2PM AND WERE UNABLE TO CHCK IT .. WE WERE DISAPPOINTED , ALTHOUGH WE ACCEPTED THAT CHECK IN WAS DROM 3PM, HOWEVER EVEN IF THERE WAS A FACILITYB TO ACCEPT OUR LUGGAGE WHILST WE EXPLORED THE AREA ...
Review 89:lOVED OUR APPARTMENT AND THE SWIMMING POOL AND THE SETTING .. WE WERE SO SAD TO LEAVE IT AND WOULD DEFINATELY RETURN AND WOULD HAVE NO HESITATION RECOMMENDING IT TO FRIENDS
Review 90:The restaurant and taverna were closed - this was not made clear when we booked and meant we had to drive everywhere to get something to eat. The hotel did not handle a room enquiry well meaning we had to pay unneccesary cancellation charges for a surplus room. This could have been avoided.
Review 91:the Property is beautiful and very picturesque.
Review 92:Missed a good resturant at the hotel.
Review 93:Excellent service. Very nice pool area. Good breakfast. Very helpfull staff that gave us a lot of good tips what to do and where to go.
Review 94:I loved everything about Borgo II. It was quiet and tranquil; gorgeous gardens and pool! So relaxing! Just wish the restaurant was open! Difficult to find a place to eat after traveling for a long day and night!!

Review 103:Walls too thin in rooms.
Review 104:Very lovely place. Restaurant is exceptional!
Review 105:Beautiful property and grounds. Good breakfast. 5 minutes from the hilltop town of Cortona.
Review 106:Had to change rooms to get a bathtub.
Review 107:The pool and grounds. Friendly staff.
Review 108:location
Review 109:Room we booked was too small. Had to pay extra for a larger room that wasn't attached to the reception area.
Review 110:Beautiful grounds... Amazing town
Review 111:Heard noise from next door room. For the price could have put some tissues in bathroom
Review 112:Helpful staff

Review 123:the room and the pool, the location and the gardens. Beautiful.
Review 124:Do not have air condition and the breakfast is too simple.
Review 125:Nice staff, good breakfast and a very nice pool.
Review 126:It's a remote location so taxis are infrequent and need booking in advance.
Review 127:Stunning setting and wonderful staff.
Review 128:restaurant food
Review 129:Wonderful views and quit
