Hotel San Michele is located inside of one of the oldest buildings of Cortona, the ancient Baldelli Palace, strategically located right in the heart of town.
The Baldelli Palace is a 15th-century mansion restored according to its original features and considered by various guides a true example of Cortona's architectural splendour.
The Italian Ministry of Art, declared the building hosting Hotel San Michele part of the National Heritage. Just 350 feet away you will find the Sant'Agostino Conference Centre.
The hotel offers 43 unique rooms, each one featuring ancient furniture and equipped with modern services and comforts. The rooms have wooden beams and the windows offer views of the rooftops and the views over the valley.
A buffet-style breakfast is available daily.
San Michele is the only hotel in the centre of Cortona to have a private car park. If travelling by car enter the city gate in Via Guelfa, transit is allowed for hotel customers 24 hours a day.

Review 1：Being a very old historic building, the rooms had quite a few obstacles such as low hanging beams and strange floor corners and door heights that were 6 inches shorter than I am . We hit our head and toes many times

Review 3：Very poor bathroom: No shower screen and the water went every where, the shower holder was screwed into a beam!. The whole place was tired and was in need of some tlc and a bit of money spending on it. Breakfast buffet was so poor that we went out for breakfast on 2 days of the 3 in spite of it being included in our rate. The lift needed a cranking handle, and we needed a torch to find things in the room, it was so dingy and pooly lit. And this was the junior suite! We appreciate that this is a historic building, it has just been neglected, what a shame.

Was on a crutchand took backpack from car which had to be left in carpark..mobilityspot helped a few metres...and 'walk' up steep cobbles to thehotel. Was fine day and interesting, and I 'made it'. Greatgreeting and assistance on arrival. Fabulous spot to stay. Even crutchedto top of hill above church to see stunning view on best of days.

Review 21：Location was perfect for a short stay , free car parking in the out skirts of the city walls , very helpful reception staff , spacious room , hotel has lots of character and makes the stay feel like your in a medieval hill town. No complaints.

Review 22：Really nothing, although the hotel was almost empty and yet we were not given a twin-bedded room as we asked for. I guess it had to do with the reservation.

Review 23：The hotel buliding. A very beautiful palazzo -composed of several houses- with awesome decoration and ambience. Breakfast was excellent, especially the fresh bread and pastry. Plenty of fruit, jams or "afettati" (salami, ham, etc). Everything was delicious and so was coffee. Situation is just perfect. In the core of Cortona (should I say in the cuore?)

Review 24：Our room - all rooms but two, apparently - didn't have much of a view - our traveling companions had none at all... ....but you could walk a couple of blocks in any direction and find that view - spectacular. WELL worth the price.

Breakfast was very good and staff totally helpful and welcoming. The hotel has car parking which is not included with the room and has to be reserved. It was worth it though to have our rental car right there. We had a wonderful stay in Cortona and the locals definitely enjoy their town. Fantastic find and can not recommend it highly enough.

The personnel is most kind, always trying to please you, and asking whether they can help you. In spite of being an old building everything immaculate. We would definetly choose Sant Michele Hotel again.

Review 37：This hotel understands hospitality. I was given an extra large room with a magnificent view of the countryside. As a solo traveler I really appreciate this. The bathroom was marvelous with a large tub on a pedestal. I took a relaxing bath with soothing bath salts and olive oil soap, all products plus cozy slippers, provided by the hotel. It was luxurious. It was so quiet, I could hear the sounds of the birds tweeting in the morning. The staff gave me a map, pointed out things of interest and were incredibly warm. The location was perfect, right in the middle of the city, but quiet. The public rooms are gorgeous and the breakfast room charming with a delightful buffet.

There were three of us in one room, so we figured we'd be a little crowded, but the room was plenty big enough & the bathroom large & updated. Hotel San Michelle was a perfect choice!

Review 42：The hotel location is excellent----50 metres from the main square. The hotel staff are friendly, helpful and speak excellent english. Breakfast is typical Italian and adequate The usual hotel facilities e.g. air conditioning, lift etc apply. There are numerous restaurants in Cortona and meal costs are not expensive. The town is small and while somewhat hilly is walkable without any great stress. On arrival at train station there are 2 options available for travel to hotel viz: (1) Taxi--cost 20 euro and takes 10 minutes (2) Bus--every half hour and costs 1.20 euros per person. Buy ticket at nearby newsagent. The bus terminus is approx 10 minutes walk to hotel. The tourist office is located in the town centre. Overall no hesitation in recommending both hotel and Cortona.

Review 87：The location was perfect, just a few feet from the main piazza, We reserved a private parking place with the hotel which was very convenient because the public lots are a few blocks away down some steep, narrow streets. There are a number of great restaurants close to the hotel. We couldn't have been happier with the staff, breakfast and accommodations.

Review 89：Everything about this hotel was fantastic. Location within Cortona was very convenient and the view from my bedroom was amazing. The staff was very helpful , breakfast buffet excellent. The special thing about this hotel was how they took care of me and looked after me after I suffered a motorcycle accident while staying there. Arranged transportation to the local hospital and then were very attentive to me when I returned. As a single woman on a motorcycle trip through Italy, this could of been disastrous but this special staff was simply amazing.

Review 92：The hotel is like staying in a beautiful hillside villa. Room 214 has an amazing rooftop balcony that has a view over the Tuscan countryside. The location was ideal for a visit to a hilltop Tuscan town. The staff is professional and helpful. The pastries and Italian coffees served at breakfast were amazing. Overall one of the best hotel experiences we have had.

The situation so close to the town cannot be beaten, and the rooms were all individualised and we saw enough to know that the grading was accurate and you got what you paid for. A few nice places to sit in quiet.

Review 111：The hotel staff was absolutely fantastic, from check-in to check out.The rooms were huge and so were the bathrooms although not sure how touse the shower because it didn't have any curtains or doors.The location is spot on, right int he middle of Cortona and the restaurant next door (Il Preludio is a must-try). Our room came with breakfast but the selection was limited but cannot complain about it. Will definitely stay here again if we are in the area.
