Reviews for Minniborgir Cottages

Review 1:Was very disappointed in this place. Stayed weekend of 16-17th Jan. Reception & Restaurant not open at all during our 2 night stay. Bookings.com site says restaurant open all year round, but apparently it's closed till end of January. Wouldn't have stayed here if I had known this. Arrived at 5.30pm, nobody about, had to ph to find out which cottage we were in then had trouble finding it in the dark. Hot tub was empty & nobody around to ask & no info on how to fill it. Sent manager a txt but didn't get a reply. Nowhere to book tours, get info or map of the area. Beds small & very noisy with smallest amount of movement, no good if you are a light sleeper!! No idea where the laundry was!! Very disappointed as booked for the Hot tub & on site Restaurant.

Review 2:Quiet location & cottage warm

Review 3:Nothing bad at all would be nice to have a small gym as there is no way of exercising in the Winter

Review 4:Very warm plenty of space in the complex hot tub in the winter was lovely location was very peaceful and the services in Selfoss were excellent for our needs.

Review 5:Bedrooms are pretty small, which may only be a problem with a big family staying more than a night or two.

Review 6:Fantastic private cottages, all new amenities, excellent cooking facilities, comfortable and warm. We loved the outdoor hot tub, which was set up for us by staff despite 20cm of snow. Everything was perfect. Quite as anything overnight. Underground heating a special touch. Highly recommend.

Review 7:Staff was not overly excited or helpful - nothing very specific example, but it was certainly a bit negative compared to some of the other hosts we had during the trip.

Review 8:It was our last stop in a roadtrip around the island before heading back to the airport. Was just a perfect spot to relax after a week-long travel. Great facility and cosy apartment.

Review 9:All exceeded our expectations

Review 10:Great, well equipped property in an excellent location to explore many of icelands natural wonders. Although out of season the staff were always there & happy to advise & arrange activities. The hot tub was piping hot & lovely to relax in after a busy day exploring. Only disappointment was the northern lights failed to make an appearance! Oh well, we'll have to revisit & will be staying at the minniborg again.

Review 11:some basic information on the use of the spa bath would have been useful, the first night we did not know that it needed turning off and the noise from the heater was loud which kept us awake.

Review 12:the views from the cottages was fantastic and we liked the rural location.

Review 13:Very friendly staff. Great cottage with relaxing hot tub. Very well equipped and comfortable. Despite recently losing his chef, the owner made us a wonderful dinner of lamb and fish.

Review 14:The cottage was to small for two adults and a little baby. For two adults ok but small. Could have been netter equipted. Not like appointed beforehand with babybed. The dedicated chef (cook) arranged one. It was without bedsheet and mattress.

Review 15:It was clean and nearby the geysir and godafoss.

Review 16:Excellent accommodation, spacious, with friendly owner who woke us up to watch the Northern Lights. Good well equipped communal kitchen for those who wished to use it.

Review 17:Small bedroom. The pillows are long dead. There were three hot tubs but only one in function and always occupied, so we did not get to use it. A big pot in the kitchen would be useful to cook pasta, for example

Review 18:Perfect location to visit the Golden Circle. Quiet location, privacy. Good value. TV, decent Wifi.

Review 19:The Hot tub was welcome after full days of sightseeing! Wifi signal was excellent. We were checked on to make sure we were watching northern lights which was thoughtful.

Review 20:Nothing; double bed might be a bit larger.

Review 21:Great location, big cottage, very helpfull staff as it is a family runned business together with their horse stables, restaurant and excursions company.

Review 22:Super market is a bit far from the cottage, around 20km away. However, if you have a car, it is not so big problem. Also you can buy some drinks (including local beers) and small food at a reception.

Review 23:We are 2 adults and 3 kids (9,6,and 2 years), and stayed a cottage with 3 bedrooms and hot tub. We really enjoyed the hot tub, twice a day at least. The cottage was spacious and warm. Very quiet.

Review 24:No bad experiences at all. One of the few places where breakfast is not included in Iceland.

Review 25:We had a two bedroom cabin with one bath, kitchen and living area combined for two nights.. We did not use the hot tub located on the outside deck. The cabin was very clean with beautiful pine wood throughout, very quiet and we very much enjoyed our stay. Bedrooms were very small and the bed took up the space from one wall to the other wall with an upper berth suitable for a child in each bedroom. We did eat dinner one night in their dining room and the food was very good and fairly priced for Iceland. The owner was very friendly and everyone spoke English very well. The owner also operates tours to the highlands with two huge vehicles, one is parked near the entrance so you cannot miss it driving by. The location was excellent for touring the Golden Circle area. We had breakfast the first morning and compared to other stays in Iceland, the breakfast was a minimum one. Upon booking our reservation, the breakfast was quoted as $8.00 per person but we were charged $11.00 per person, so we only had breakfast there only one morning of our two night stay. I would suggest not taking breakfast there but obtaining groceries in Selfoss for breakfast. We had one dinner at Kaffi Krus in Selfoss and the food was very good and reasonalbly priced; get there early as it gets busy. Iceland is a most beautiful country and the people very friendly.

Review 26:No baking tin tray non foil for baking. We bought rib & was planning to bake there. Ended up have to cut the rib into 3 pieces and baked in small container. Other than this, all other were nice.

Review 27:Nice outdoor hot tub. A seperate bed room with bunk bed. My son loved it.

Review 28:It would've been great if the cottages had a BBQ grill.

Review 29:Clean, comfortable and roomy cottages! As was the case with many places we stayed in Iceland, the rooms were small, but the rest of the cottage, including the kitchen, had lots of space. Each cottage had its own Jacuzzi tub and the kitchen even had a dishwasher! This would be the perfect place to base out of for a few nights, I wish we had stayed more than one night. It is close to Thingvellir Park and Landmannalaugar.

Review 30:Tried the BBQ buffet was very average especially for the very high price tag. All view were in to other units instead of outwards to the countryside.

Review 31:Location was spot on, excellent quality of unit and staff very helpful if needed a hand

Review 32:It would be helpful if the owners could put up notices in English explaining how to fill and operate the hot tub. Having said that, the lady at reception was happy to come over to our cottage and show us what to do.

Review 33:Our three-bedroomed cottage was really spacious with a large deck area and private hot tub. We used it as a base from which to visit the 'Golden Triangle' attractions and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfortable and the site very quiet. If, like us, you plan to self cater, stock up on groceries before you arrive as there are no supermarkets close by.

Review 34:Only negative was hot tub wasn't filled ready to use and as we were only there one night didn't feel it would be worth doing it ourselves.

Review 35:Only stayed one night but location was perfect for our trip to the Golden Circle. Lovely view from balcony. Good cooking facilities - we cooked own meal.

Review 36:The bedrooms were really very tiny, with no place to store your suitcase.

Review 37:The two-bedroom cottage had a spacious living/dining room, a well-equipped kitchen and our own hot tub. The instrucions on how to fill / turn on the hot tub were a bit confusing, but the receptionists were ready to help. Just remember to drain it after use, otherwise by the next evening it will be full of dead flies (as we learned).

Review 38:The cottage has not been ready for moving in as late as 19:00 hours. Most of the blinds are either missing or not functioning well.

Review 39:Closes to the main attraction

Review 40:A very small matter is that the mini-ladder to get to the top bunk is difficult to use. It’s designed to swing out of the way but wouldn’t lock into place, and again it’s tiny. Given one also has to watch not to bump into the roof, agile teenagers can use the ladder to get into the top bunk; I think most other people would find it challenging.

Review 41:We rented the smallest of three sizes, which had a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed up top. The cottage was very clean and neat. It’s not particularly spacious but it was fine. Check in was easy and the people who worked the desk were helpful. A well-run, very clean set of accommodations--we would definitely stay again.

Review 42:Nicest staff; even helped when our car's battery went out and accomodated a late check in due to flight delays. My only regret was that we didn't get to spend more time here.

Review 43:The bedroom was tiny, and had only a bunk bed. The ladder to the top bunk folded out and was meant to latch to the bed, but was sort of broken, making it very difficult to access. I am sure the management would have rectified it if I had asked.

Review 44:It was clean, and we enjoyed the television.

Review 45:Very nice place and friendly staff. We spend here one night and the apartment has everything you need. Good location if you travelling around the Golden Circle!

Review 46:Cramped bedroom with bunks, small double on bottom and small single on top. Oversized couch and dining chairs took up most of "living area". TV not functional. Cold and dirty hot tub.

Review 47:Quiet because 10k from town and few people visiting.

Review 48:The cottage was massive - it can accommodate 9. So nice separate lounge with comfy chairs , good kitchen. Private hot-tub as well - it was great and my wife is now a convert. Good base location as well - we only had the two nights but next time it will be longer. excellent wifi as well. we didn't have breakfast but the restuarant etc looked nice.

Review 49:A nice cosy cabin in close to vicinity to all the sights of The Golden Circle. Good facilities, nice hot tubs and very friendly staff - they supplied us with a huge thermos of coffee and food supplies as we attempted to stay up all night to see the Northern Lights! Highly recommended

Review 50:internet in reception but only worked in apartment on our daughters phone.

Review 51:enough room for our older daughter to sleep on sofa bed in living area.hot tubs just outside were fun.

Review 52:We when arrived there was no bedding or towels but this was very quickly remedied.

Review 53:Loved the hot hot tub. Cottage was clean, well equipped and staff were very helpful. We attended out of season so the place was very quiet but we were offered meals so long as we pre-booked. Travelled with our two boys aged 15 and 8 so the hot tub and free wifi were greatly appreciated. The location allowed us to easily access some of Iceland's best attractions.

Review 54:Just the kitchen things missing and no toilet paper, but as I said, staff were very helpful and gave us everything we needed once we'd asked.

Review 55:It was nice n easy to find then when we got there we found we'd been upgraded to a cabin with our own private hottub! Our kitchen was missing pots and a pan so when we asked the guy was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Over all it was an awesome spot and staff were very friendly, wished we could have stayed longer!

Review 56:Wifi never worked, a workaround with a line based lan was offered after massive complaints.

Review 57:Nice cottages, good kitchen equipement, however we payed during the checkin, before getting the keys and then a second time without our knowledge, just the card was charged. Clarification is in progress, we hope the refunding will work.

Review 58:The cottage was very nice. It was already warm when we arrived late at night. There was everything we needed (except a hair dryer). The cottage was quiet and private. We were able to watch the Aurora from our bed room window. Location was pretty good for day trips to Geysir or South Coast. We liked our stay there :-)

Review 59:Extra pillow cases would be nice. Watch out as the signposts can be covered in snow.

Review 60:Sitting in the HOT TUB watching the Northern lights!!!! And good wifi. Great underfloor heating. Just off the main tourist route.

Review 61:Bed was reasonable but the pillows could have been nicer. Friday night saw a big group of youngsters turn up who sang loudly and bbqed and hot tubed till midnight, would have been a bit annoying but they did quieten down after midnight but a) that was our bad luck and b) the singing was at least of a high quality, must have been professionals. Overall as cabin style accom it was great for the money and I wouldn't let these things put me off

Review 62:the people who run it are great, they let us check in a couple hours early We had a one bedroom cottage and it was well equipped for us with our young daughter. Double bedroom is small so we had to put cot in front room but there was plenty of room for everything we needed. Kitchen was well equipped and nice things left like washing up liquid and sugar so we didn't need to bring everything. Saw the northern lights ! Hot tub one of three was working and no one was in it but us each time we went in. The second one was working on our third night I assume for weekend crowds. Maybe they turn on 3 hot tubs when it's crowded and one when its not? Anyway it was always empty for us. Location was great for seeing sights.

Review 63:There is nothing bad to say about the cottage. Our holiday was marred by the car rental companies (not connected to the cottage) who are quick to hire out cars that are not 'fit for purpose', during the winter months. Not knowing the roads, go for a 4WD with full insurance cover. We got stung for £276 for just a windscreen chip!!! from a coach speeding past us. (In the summer a smaller car would be fine).

Review 64:The staff went out of there way to ensure we were safe in an inhospitable environment, whereby they were very hospitable and kind people. The cottages are clean and warm, and well equipped. We would love to go back again in the summer with our children. The hot tubs were amazing and we got to see the northern lights right where we were staying without the added light pollution.

Review 65:Nothing other than the sofa was a little uncomfy but that's just if I have to be picky.

Review 66:Nice clean apartments situated near the golden circle. As no other guests were there because of the bad weather the restaurant wasn't open yet but they did kindly rustle us up some lovely pizzas. Very good facilities, with a bar onsite.

Review 67:The wifi in the rooms was not available but otherwise nothing wrong

Review 68:the cottage was in a great location for visiting south iceland. the kitchen was well equipted and the hot tub outside were amazing. The food in the restaurant was freshly cooked and the staff helpful.

Review 69:These cottages were a perfect choice for family fun. A short drive from everything, the kids loved the hot tub in the snow and we was blessed with Northern Lights above our cottage.

Review 70:Nothing, everything was excellent!!!

Review 71:Great staff, the highlight was sitting in the hot tub while snow falling!!! Beautiful cottage, excellent kitchen facilities! Beautiful place overall

Review 72:Beds could be more comfortable (bit longer, I'm a tall person)

Review 73:Cute little cottage! Hot pots are great. The diner is quite good and the continental breakfast includes plenty of fresh fruits.

Review 74:A group of noisy teenagers were in the hot tub until 2 in the morning. If you are after a bit of peace and quiet, make sure you are not in a cottage too close to anyone else as the walls are quite thin.

Review 75:Warm and comfortable cottage. Great location, Breakfast kept us going until the evening. Very helpful staff.

Review 76:- WiFi drops every now and again - Double beds are 'ok'.

Review 77:- Great location - Cottages are warm and cosy - Hot tub is nice after a long day - You can see the Northern Lights (if you are lucky like us) from the cottage. - Would definitely go back!

Review 78:Could have used eggs in the breakfast (free) but that is just nitpicking.

Review 79:Friendly Staff, Clean and spacious. Kitchen fully stocked. Hot tub if you need it on the porch.

Review 80:perhaps the only thing i would like to comment is the signage of the place. it is fairly visible from the roundabout direction however it is not very noticeable from the other direction.

Review 81:love everything of this place, the hot tub in particularly.

Review 82:It was too cold in the evening (17 degrees in the living room) and we couldn't adjust the heating (the thermostats didn't work), internet connection was poor available only near the door. Only a small shop nearby, to do the proper shopping you need to drive 20 km to Selfoss.

Review 83:Good value for money, excellent facilities, lovely location, hot tub was an amazing bonus, overall we had a lovely stay

Review 84:great location, close to the golden circle. The cottage was very nice and clean. And wa had access to hot spots, in our "cottages community"! The staff was very nice and very helpful!

Review 85:needed to be in the reception / dining area to use Wifi. Wifi was non functional in our cottage.

Review 86:The location provided good access to the various sites in the Golden Circle.

Review 87:Dinner - restaurant has only just opened and service rather slow, but guess this will improve with time...

Review 88:Spacious living room, hot tub, friendly staff, quiet location, nice aurora views

Review 89:Having to leave!

Review 90:The location was great. Central to lots of fabulous sights and supermarkets in Selfoss. Great facilities in the gorgeous cottage too. They organised horse riding and a trip to the glacier and highlands which was amazing. The hot tub was terrific especially after a long day of exploring! The cottage was lovely and warm too.

Review 91:We were expecting a lot more given the high booking.com rating when we booked. The staff were bland compared to everyone else that we met in Iceland. The common Jacuzzi tubs were covered in slime. The one bedroom cottage was very cramped for four people. The Wifi did not function at the cottages, so we had to go to the main building to get a connection.

Review 92:Central location for the Golden Circle. Individual cabins provide a little more privacy than an apartment block.

Review 93:Just an idea : when driving from Tingvellir south on road 37 towards minniborgir, there should be a sign on crossroad where 37 & 35 meets, that shows direction to minniborgir. We had an updatet GPS and didn't find it there and the GPS cordinates on the internet leads us to a farm 10-15 km away

Review 94:Hot pots, the resturant

Review 95:nothing!

Review 96:Staff were very helpful and even accompanied us to the cottage to show us how to operate the hot tub. Cottage was beautiful and very spacious. Had a great meal in the restaurant as well. Were expecting the food to be fairly basic but were surprised to find a good choice of locally produced and freshly cooked dishes. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 97:Wifi signal was very weak in the cottage itself - but that didn't really matter.

Review 98:Nice houses, wel equipped. very quiet surrounding. The reception also features a restaurant.

Review 99:We were disappointed in the place overall especially since it has a high booking.com rating. The three common area hot tubs were slimy and dirty, the wifi did not work in the evenings and the staff were strikingly bland.

Review 100:Central location for the Golden Circle, everything was within a 20-30 min drive. The individual cabins are quiet with a reasonable kitchen. During our stay we had both a one bedroom unit and later a two bedroom unit. For a family of four, the two bedroom is perfect but the one bedroom unit was very cramped.

Review 101:The cottage was really nice, clean, well equipped for making meals, and an excellent place to stay after a busy day of sight seeing. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Review 102:I wish there had been printed instructions on using the television (and if there was internet, we couldn't figure it out). Would be nice if there were a few bags of tea in the kitchen. Restaurant apparently doesn't have take away cups for coffee to go.

Review 103:The cottage was spacious and spotlessly clean when we arrived with the hot tub warmed up. Very welcome. Would have loved to have stayed longer than one night.

Review 104:The location was Amazing. The cottage Clean and well planned. We had Everything we could possibly ask for and the private hot tub was a nice bonus ;)

Review 105:Privacy and individuality

Review 106:Not much choice at breakfast, cabin prepared for 2 people instead of 4

Review 107:Great location, friendly staff, clean cabins, hot tub

Review 108:A home from home, everything you could possible need was there, warm clean very happy experience would visit again

Review 109:The woman working the desk barely spoke English and could not understand what we were asking her.

Review 110:No Wifi signal in cottage

Review 111:Cottage is very lovely. We have evrything we need.

Review 112:weak wifi

Review 113:spacious room

Review 114:Had to wait a long time to check in. Cottage was equipt well but several thing like ladder to bed was broken

Review 115:Cabins were nicely appointed. Everything we could want.

Review 116:Very good location for visiting local attractions

Review 117:Location little bit out of nowhere

Review 118:Big cottage with private hot pot

Review 119:The sauna is awesome, the staff is very friendly, place is very clean.

Review 120:nice housing well equipped kitchen space enough good Location to visit geyser gulfoss and pyngvir

Review 121:Located in a Good location with proper facilities

Review 122:The perfect location for many must sees in Iceland Very pretty cottages. Good opportunities to see Northern lights

Review 123:Great cabin in the Golden Circle!

Review 124:Great, huge and very clean house. Kitchen very well-equipped. BBQ available. Hot tub present. Good for the group of friends and also the family.

Review 125:Very central to golden circle. Clean & spacious.
