Reviews for Kilford Arms

Review 1:The location is very good.the food was nice.the price reasonable and the service was good.car park very handy overall we were very pleased would have no hesitation staying again or letting our friends know about it.

Review 2:Another couple given a key to our room and walking in on us. The shower drainage was terrible. The nightclub music was intrusively loud and patrons were aggressive and clearly fighting and smashing glasses etc. After the club closed we were kept awake by drunken, loud, foul mouthed, hotel patrons running around the corridors until 5am. Our key cards not working for our room. Many more negative things, too many to mention.

Review 3:The central location. Free Parking, one or two genuine older bar staff. Fast, efficient check in.

Review 4:This wasn't a bad spot. I just wasn't in love with it. Good for the money and do not bring a big bag. Leave it in the car park and pack a smaller bag with the essentials. LOTS of stairs. Remember, it is an old town with old buildings. :)

Review 5:Never enough bar staff for new year .All ways have live music on but on new year only karaoke on not good enough we would never have gone if we knew that.

Review 6:Good size family room . location

Review 7:Bar had people in it drinking at 11 o clock in the am it was smelly and we didn't want to eat our breakfast on such a location so went to a nearby cafe.

Review 8:Location

Review 9:The nightclub was free entry so we decided we'd head in, the bouncers were extremely rough, and because I was dancing with one of my friends and as she got pushed and acidentally pushed me to stop herself falling I stumbled backwards and knocked my own drink at our table the bouncers decided they wanted to drag me out, not only embarassing me but then as I tried to question as to why they were taking me out they dragged me by the arm, not only leaving a bruise where they had held my arm but also scratching my elbow leaving a mark which I didn't think this was how bouncers were meant to act as part of their job role, they are there to make people feel safe, but instead left me without my phone, bag and in an alley at the back of the night club and decided to throw my friend out for questioning why they had put me out. Very inappropriate and due to this I would not return to the hotel overall as it is a reflection on what the management must agree too considering he was working behind the bar at the time.

Review 10:Rooms were very spacious, comfortable and clean and the location is brilliant if heading out around kilkenny town or doing a bit of shopping

Review 11:Booked the room only / Breakfast was €10 each. Too expensive. Also had asked to be given a place to get my hair done for the Wedding. As we were not able to have the room until the afternoon ( which I understood). Had a mobile Hairdresser booked. I could have had my hair washed in the Ladies. Had to cancel as receptionist could not give me any place to have my hair done. Any wee space would have done I thought she could have been more helpful.

Review 12:Had a wedding in Langtons. Was very near

Review 13:My friend only got a bowl of porridge for breakfast but was still charged 10 euro by a not so pleasant bar man that said it was still 10 euro!!!

Review 14:Rooms are clean, lovely and spacious, great location. At check in met a very nice girl (with long brown hair cant remember her name)she had a lovely manner and couldn't oblige more to do anything to help, thank you so much for your help..

Review 15:There was a strong smell in the bathroom when you flushed the chain at first but this seemed to resolve after a while.

Review 16:Staff were so helpful Staff were very friendly Room was excellent

Review 17:The noise

Review 18:The hotel and staff were lovely ! A bit noisey in the residents bar but to be expected on a weekend in Kilkenny! Cannot fault the friendliness of staff and very helpful! Thanks for a lovely stay

Review 19:Breakfast area very short on space. Had to wait for hot food to be replinished . Small selection of fruit and yogurts etc. Fire doors in bedroom areas always open as far as we could see. In the event of a fire????

Review 20:Accomodation and dining area very good

Review 21:Circuitous route to reach some rooms -up & down travel. Some cleanliness issues in the stairwells. No live music when we stayed there on a Thursday.

Review 22:Downtown location was great and free parking next to building was a big plus on rainy days. Nice bar onsite with dj music provided. The full Irish breakfast was very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 23:Hotel policy of pay before you stay / no night porter for a 3 star hotel / doors lock at around 10.30 pm with a sign on door enter hotel through the pub otherwise everything all good enjoyed the stay

Review 24:Good breakfast but too many empty trays at hot food counter and no suger substitute / close to centre of town and friendly staff

Review 25:Went into hotel bar at nine in the evening for a drink, told there was going to entertainment on it didn't happen, chicken wings and chips on the floor along with a couple of forks and a bar menu left on seats, the three barmen couldn't be bothered to clean up,no beer mats on tables which were filthy too. Staff need a course in customer relation's,it was no wonder The fee people who were in the bar went elsewhere! Cobwebs all over breakfast area walls and ceiling (nothing to do with Halloween)disgraceful!

Review 26:The bedroom we were given was so small, with very little space or lighting. The window was tiny with frosted glass. The wall in are of bath was dirty, need I say more. When I complained in the morning Receptionist was rather dismissive.Room no 92.

Review 27:Staff were courteous Breakfast was good

Review 28:There was a smell of stale or stagnant water through out the floor that our room was on and also in the room.

Review 29:Great Location and good value for money. Friendly staff, and they had car parking facilities to the rear of the hotel.

Review 30:The beds were really uncomfortable, the matresses could probably do with being replaced. Breakfast was tasty but some of the hot items were cool/cold.

Review 31:The hotel was ideally located for pretty much everything you would want to do in Kilkenny! Less than a 10 minute walk to the castle, slightly over 10 minutes to the Smithwick's Experience and in between both those places you have a myriad of shops and pubs to enjoy. The room was spacious and the hotel breakfast was lovely (if a bit cold occasionally) and there was a good choice of food.

Review 32:The room was so cold during the night. Wouldn't recommend if your looking for a good night sleep as there was nothing but noise from outide the building till 4am at least, then street cleaning going on extremely early the following morning which made us feel like we had no sleep at all.

Review 33:Staff were very welcoming.

Review 34:The room stank of smoke even though it was non smoking. The food in restaurant was like out of a box in the freezer!

Review 35:The location was good & O'Faolinns pub next door was lovely & modern

Review 36:At night (around midnight) the hotel door is locked you need to bang on the pub door to get in, this can take a long time for the bar staff to respond, and when they do, they can be rude and in the case of one barman, very aggressive

Review 37:Rooms were clean

Review 38:I think the carpets outside rooms need to be cleaned awful oudur off them as u walk to ur room the internet coverage awful in rooms but i loved my stay and am goin stay again next yr for a hens party staff so friendly couldnt do more for us tanks so much again think u need a bigger hotel more rooms pity its booked up weekends would like try go down in nov some time see ya soon ☺

Review 39:A lot of late night guests coming back to rooms drunk. Not a problem if you are drinking as well, but could understand sober people not enjoying this

Review 40:Location, walking distance to bars

Review 41:i paid for our stay when I booked it but was told on arrival that it was not paid & they insisted that I pay there & then for our stay .it took until we were checking out to get a refund , the toilet bowl in our room was badly cracked ,we had a meal in the hotel the night of arrival where I come from we peel the potatoes before we chip them but the chips we got were made from potatoes that still had the skin on them. staff not very friendly

Review 42:nothing

Review 43:I found the bar men very rude. I asked the rest of the group what they thought about them and they felt the same. Some of them really need a course on customer service.

Review 44:The breakfast was amazing 10/10 plus they provided a gluten free option!! The receptionist was very friendly bad lovely to deal with. Rooms very basic but did provide everything we needed.....shower, bed, bottle opener

Review 45:Our room was directly above the night club, would suggest asking for a room towards the rear of the Hotel. The noise was disturbing and went on until early hours of the morning

Review 46:Good food comfortabel bed, location

Review 47:The only thing I could fault it on was that there was a deal on another site for the exact same price but inc breakfast and when I booked it here I hadn't seen the other deal and I could cancel the booking on this as there was a cancellation fee!

Review 48:Its perfect for a night away with the girls/guys... Or just a mini break as the location is central

Review 49:Very nice hotel have stayed there before good location very easy to get in and out if the car park room was very spacious good to have iron and hair dryer would recommend this Hotel .

Review 50:Great place to stay...Big room, comfort beds and very clean place!most important it was at the central of the town We enjoyed a lot from our stay there:)

Review 51:After Arriving and finding the Shower Faulty in room 50,when we went down to Reception to Complain, the Dark hair woman on reception was arrogant towards us insisting that was the First complaint they got,The Fair haired woman ,sorted it out for us though along with Colette the Household supervisor.,she put us in room 49.which was a lot better. We didnt need the Hassle though.

Review 52:It was convenient to the City and Bus and Trains as we dont Drive a Car.

Review 53:Cobwebs in the bathroom and room, looks like it hadn't been hoovered in weeks. And they lock the door to reception every night and you have to ring the door bell to the door for the bar man to let you in. No security and with all the drunken hens and stags they let stay it really really needs it.

Review 54:In the centre.

Review 55:The walls were very thin and we could hear everything from the room next door (next doors phone woke me up) also there were a lot of doors banging this woke me up a lot too.

Review 56:The hotel was very lively and quite fun.

Review 57:The only problem we had was the night time access. you need to find another way of getting your guests into the hotel at night. Your doormen were very rude to my friend and he had to wait for over a half hour to get into the hotel. Going thru the bar or the night club is not acceptable at night time

Review 58:The hotel was well located for the city. its located just as you arrive in Kilkenny and within walking distance of the centre of the city.

Review 59:too noisy, nightclub. fight in car park involving security on nightclub. saw a young guy being beaten and kicked on the ground with blood pouring from his head, shouting and swearing at him, name of Shane. when we came back to hotel at 11.00 p.m. could not gain access. doors closed had to go through part where queueing for nightclub and then had to find someone to let us through locked doors. should have been told this before we went out for the night. alarm kept going off, last time being about 3:00 p.m. Don't stay on a Sat night would be the advice to travellers.

Review 60:staff very good. food excellent in bar

Review 61:Everything...all doors were locked when we got back from a night out at 2am...staff looked at us and wouldn't let us in even tho we showed our key through the glass door! 1 hour later a girl that was also a resident thank god came to open the door....within the 1 hour there was a fight on the street were glass was been thrown! We were frightened and yet the staff didn't let us in! I would never stay here again

Review 62:Nothing other than going home

Review 63:I didn't like the male receptionist, I had my booking already paid 4, he said I hadn't, while other people were waitin about

Review 64:Very central, lovely bar!

Review 65:My husband spent half an hour trying to get into the hotel when time for bed which was awful, then when we finally got to bed we were kept awake all night by a hen party running up and down halls, shouting and banging on our door and running off! Great for hens or stags party's but not for a trip away with your husband.

Review 66:Really nice hotel,

Review 67:Wall were thin, could hear people talking in ajacent room. Should be a bell at main entrance not have to ring on pub door to get in. But minor things these are

Review 68:Location was great, and with parking at back of hotel. Would recommend and stay again

Review 69:No bad experience

Review 70:This hotel was stunning from the inside. The gentleman at the reception was very friendly and helpful. Bar staff were friendly too. We stayed in a twin room for the bank holiday. The room was very clean, beds were comfortable, bathroom was spacious. It was located right in the city centre, so everything was very close by. They have their very own nightclub and late bar. Overall I was very happy with our stay and would recommend Kilford Arms to anyone who decides to make a trip to Kilkenny.

Review 71:When we arrived back after our night out we were sitting in the bar and a man who said he was a chef in the hotel came over talking to us he made me feel uncomfortable and was making suggestive comments to myself and my friend I didn't like this as we are 2 young girls.i don't think it was very professional

Review 72:The man on reception was very friendly and helpful and the door man I think tom was his name was lovely and friendly

Review 73:The dining hall for dinner was a bit over priced and the food was not fantastic for what they wanted for it. A local joint would have been preferable. Although the dining hall is gorgeous and the staff friendly, if you enjoy wine it would be a good place to visit.

Review 74:It's right in the heart of the city with enough around to keep you very entertained and if you want to travel, or shop, it's within walking distance. Cute, quaint, excellent for the wanderlust explorer.

Review 75:Light in the bathroom didn`t work at all. Bin in the bathroom was full and had not been emptied. Bad value for money - no breakfast included. Wouldn`t stay again

Review 76:couple of flies in room which we couldnt get rid of, and quite noisy at night, didnt like the stuffed tiger in lobby,

Review 77:good comfortable room and helpful staff

Review 78:Good location. Clean & comfortable. We liked that the room included a fan which helped us to sleep comfortably. Excellent dinner & service in hotel restaurant. Great décor overall.

Review 79:The helpful staff. Great music venues nearby and in the hotel itself. The nearby fantastic castle to visit. The historically interesting walks around the town and the climb up the round tower

Review 80:Smell of smoke, previous guests had been smoking and the window could not be opened.

Review 81:The room was spacious and all facilities were included. Perfect location in town.

Review 82:Was a bit noisy in the early hours when people were returning from their good night out. Only to be expected from this type of location by all good humoured.

Review 83:perfect location for an overnight stop close to all the shops bars and points of iinterest. Free secure parking and a variety of restaurant and bars under one roof.

Review 84:Bed uncomfortable very small room bathroom door would not close a step as soon as we walked in the door of the room which we kept forgetti g about and falling into the room literally.Late bar and niteclub makes sleeping difficult.Stag and hen parties on are two night stay.breakfast was very loud and variety was not great. Good location adjecent to train staion and bars everywhere in kilkenny.

Review 85:Some decor very old/dirty.noisey at times,we wer told to push an intercom button to exit the car park, didn't work.ended up having to pay to get out.couldnt read the wifi code, wasn't displayed properly.

Review 86:Noise from our room after nite club. Also was only a small bit of shower gel in room good job I had my own

Review 87:Bar and restaurant staff were excellent. Food was beautiful.

Review 88:Grand for a night very central was just up for a hen so suited perfect in great location...bit noisy but they had said that...car park handy but u have to pay €2 to get out and the barrier comes down quick so if u get out of your car it's down before u can get back in to drive off...

Review 89:Room was cheap but for this had to put up with very loud noise from pub next door. Be warned that the cheap rooms on Booking.Com are probably the noisy rooms and would have to pay more for more quiet rooms

Review 90:Room itself was excellent and location good. Free parking on site so close to city centre.

Review 91:Firstly de disco bar was full of kids approx age 15 to 16 touching eachother the way they shouldn't of been hands down skirts trying to rob other people's drinks secondly the breakfast was a describe burnt rashers over cooked beans and eggs were like rubber wen I called a member of staff she said she would replace it that was fine I was still sitting there waiting half an hour for my breakfast in which it still didn't come out so we had to cancel and leave.I brought my girlfriend down to propose to her dat nite and was pretty upset wit my stay

Review 92:Room was nice

Review 93:Did not enjoy the fact that we couldnt get into hotel the door was locked and we were left outside banging to get in for at least 15 minutes and the fire alarm kept going off which was very annoying

Review 94:2 minor complains - access to the hotel once reception was closed is through one of the pubs, one night we were waiting half an our for someone to open the door to us. A card key reader at the actual reception for access to the hotel would be brilliant. The lack of a smoking area in the hotel after the bars close is also something that needs to be looked at.

Review 95:The location of the hotel was ideal, very central. The atmosphere was friendly, staff were great help when required.

Review 96:On arrival staff weren't that friendly.. Also at the bar at night time I put €2 into a Pringle machine an nothing came out I told the bar man what happened and I asked for a different box that were behind the counter... So I went sat with me friends an the barman came over with the box of Pringles I had wanted an he said I hadnt paid for it when I put it into the machine he said this a few times I was very annoyed to be accused constantly that I never put the money in.. I paid €114.00 breakfast should be included in the price.. Won't be staying here again as they say the little things matter...

Review 97:Steak was lovely for dinner

Review 98:The staff in the residence bar is very rude and in one instance quite aggressive. I've worked in nightclubs since I'm 15, I would never talk to customers like they spoke to my friends.

Review 99:Location is perfect, right in the centre, beside everything. Very good value for money.

Review 100:No window in room felt very weird. No fan in bathroom and girls across the hall were extremely loud

Review 101:We loved the location and the room had a nice decor. Loved the complementary water, nice touch and wi fi was fast and efficient.

Review 102:Kilkenny is a lovely place but please remember there a lot of Stag and Hen partys going on at the weekends so it can get quite noisy both outside in the streets and unfortunately in the hotel as well(not the hotels fault)

Review 103:Staff were very friendly and helpful.Rooms were clean and beds were comfy ('',)

Review 104:I didnt like the darkness of the room, our the fact that we couldnt sleep for the disco. I didnt like the cold feel of the room.

Review 105:I liked where the hotel was situated.

Review 106:The rooms were too warm. Even though I turned the heating off. My room card had to be changed 3 times in one night as it wouldn't work.

Review 107:Hotel is in a great location. Not far from the train station. Staff were very friendly.

Review 108:we arrived at 3pm our room was ready we were very happy the reception staff were very friendly and helpful Staff were so friendly in all departments , We had dinner in the bar and food was excellent Would recommend this hotel to all my friends

Review 109:The room was horrible. Very small and out dated. It was a very un pleasant stay because the room was so grimmey. We will not be staying again. The shower head was broken and there were no towels. The water in the taps was scalding hot so we couldn't even have a glass of water. We has to ring for water to be brought up to us. Very bad for 110€

Review 110:The location

Review 111:Shower was outdated and should be replaced.it a fixed head shower over a bath with a shower curtain.

Review 112:the day staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast offered was nice

Review 113:Can get noisy at the weekend but it didn't bother me.

Review 114:It was very comfortable, great value, clean, great location. Lovely food in the bar & late bar after if the party hasn't finished.

Review 115:Could not get the shower working properly

Review 116:The location of the hotel was exececent . Smack bang in middle of town. Food served all day and was all lovely.

Review 117:Was at back of hotel and with windows open could hear drunk arguments out in smoking area of bar.

Review 118:Dont normally sleep very well in hotels as beds are normally too soft but slept very well here, bed was perfect.

Review 119:- Breakfast could have been better quality

Review 120:- Location is excellent - Secure car parking - No street noise even though we overlooked the main street - Large rooms. Our room had 1 double and 2 single beds.

Review 121:Extremely dirty rooms and halls had to ring 3 times for towels then when we went to reception to get them ourselves as waiting over an hour we found the staff giving out about us asking for towels

Review 122:The breakfast was overall good but options were a bit limited (if you're not interested in full irish breakfast... otherwise you're good). The cleanliness of the bathroom was ok but not amazing (traces of mould, that small spider that kept us company...)

Review 123:The location The staff - friendly & helpful. Good size of room/bed better than advertised. the 24 hours helpdesk late check in possible The free visitor guide on arrival. The 2 bars.

Review 124:Manager of bar was HORRID, MISERABLE, CRANKY, POWER TRIP, such a shame because one bad apple spoils the batch..... And by god was he sour!!!!

Review 125:All staff bar the bar man was lovely helpful cheerful and kind. Location excellent food was lovely but small portions

Review 126:To get to your room was like going through a maze. Water lukewarm. Shower head put water everywhere. Staff totally unfriendly. Never asked about our stay or smiled or chatted.I wouldn't be in a hurry to refer or return

Review 127:Almost made to feel a nuisance to be checking us in. The Hotel is catering for hens and stags. For a Couple to spend a night there for a special occasion, its pretty awful and really expensive

Review 128:One bar man was a decent lad

Review 129:If you want a quiet relaxing break stay away! Ideal for stag/ hen parties. Bar still very busy at 3am. Smoke alarm had been removed from room and electricity turned off when we arrived. Obvious that previous occupants had been smoking in room. Trying to access hotel late at night virtually impossible. Access at night is through their nightclub but once that closed was left standing outside for 10 mins at 3am after ringing a doorbell which is nearly impossible to see high up on the wall!

Review 130:Staff very efficient and prompt response to problems we encountered on arrival. Location excellent. Good food.

Review 131:No complimentary toiletries, had to buy my own. Shower head was a disaster!!

Review 132:Food was amazing Service was excellent Staff very friendly Ideal location

Review 133:There was not a thing i did not like all good

Review 134:Hotei was not far from train station Great value for money Excellent service staff very friendly We would recommend it to travellers
