Reviews for The Dunloe

Review 1:The overall service & experience was out of the world again :-) Food was excellent as always! And the staff went out of their way to make our little boys birthday special!! We're looking forward coming back next year!

Review 2:There was nothing we didn't like but a few areas that could be considered. There could have been tea making facilities in the room, perhaps bikes to hire in the hotel and a courtesy bus to the town of Killarney.

Review 3:The location, the views and the comfort of the room were great.

Review 4:Going up on elevator,we saw lot of old unused pipes thrown away on the roof and it looked really bad. Flowers in the rooms should be changed since it was dying. Same thing on the terrase. These are small things, but they look bad.

Review 5:Hotel is amazing. It is 5 star hotel but very frendly, warm, not official and cold place. Loved decoration of our room and space, room was really big. Bed was very comfortable. Food is very yummy and staff is really frendly.

Review 6:Hotel is in some parts already a little bit old fashioned. Pool area looks better in photos then in real.

Review 7:Beautiful park and nature. We loved horse riding!

Review 8:We had 2 tv's which was lovely but when you turned one off the other came on so maybe they could have different remotes as could take up to 10 minutes to turn them off! Although funny one of them was very loud and we worried we were waking our neighbours.

Review 9:All the staff were very friendly and helpful from the cleaners to the reception staff. The restaurant staff couldn't do enough for you.

Review 10:This hotel has all the comforts, elegance and choice that comes with a 5-star but retains a lovely warmth and friendliness that can sometimes get lost in 5-star resorts. The value for money was a real treat with the price of the room, the dinner and the wines. After staying in most hotels in Killarney, this one topped them all for an overall experience and price for the same. The hotel is perfect for a relaxing getaway break to recharge and enjoy the beautiful views, hotel and dining. We saw that families there also had a great experience as the hotel even has a playroom/games room for the younger guests. Even canine family members were welcome as one wing of the hotel seems to be dedicated to dog guests and their owners. The hotel is large but very capable of dealing with full capacity, I've never seen a more impressive staff/guest ratio than here. All staff were so accommodating and friendly, they were the warmest hotel staff I've met in Ireland! The room was beautiful and the balcony view across the Gap was stunning (it isn't close to the town so for those seeking Killarney night life a taxi would be needed). This is now the top hotel for us to book in Killarney and we are looking forward to the hotel reopening in Spring so that we can visit again. Well done to all working in The Dunloe, you have brought a new level of hospitality and service to our Irish hotels.

Review 11:We had a hard time finding it even with our GPS; however it was later in the evening and dark.

Review 12:Very beautiful area - service - friendliness -EVERYTHING was excellent

Review 13:Free horse rides could be longer, kids really enjoyed it but the rides were short.

Review 14:Everything was great. Lovely property, great restaurant, staff was very nice and helpful. Beautiful indoor pool. Kids had fun feeding the horses grazing in the front yard.

Review 15:Having to leave.

Review 16:The best Irish hotel we have ever stayed in. We planned on using thehotel as a base for 3 days touring but we never left the grounds afterarriving. There was so much to do and the kids had a great time.

Review 17:It is the mark of a great hotel that even though we stayed during appalling weather, we still had the best time! Hospitality as it should be. We were made so welcome, and the facilities for our guide dog in training were second to none. We'll be back!

Review 18:We were told at time of booking that our room faced on to gap of dunloe but it was the opposite side we were facing onto the swimming pool and no reduction in price I would have expected some reduction in price.

Review 19:It was very quite at night no banging of doors. The food was excellent.

Review 20:For a 5Star hotel I think there could have been more restrictions in terms of children in the bar restaurant at night. I don't think it unreasonable to expect to have dinner without screaming kids running around the area. This could also apply to the pool area at certain times for adults only quiet times. It felt a little like Butlins at times which I'm sure is far from the intention. Suggest no children in Bar Restaurant after 8.30pm and before 10am and after 6pm in the pool. It would improve things considerably for those without kids looking to relax after all we are paying guests too.

Review 21:Nothing

Review 22:The location and the surroundings are beautiful. The grounds are very well-kept and a lovely addition were the horses and sheep . The service was impeccable .

Review 23:Would have liked to have been able to sit in lounge with our dog, away from dining areas obviously. Didn't want to leave our dog in the room unattended, but wanted to enjoy the atmosphere of the lounge.

Review 24:Excellent staff, very friendly and attentive.

Review 25:Superb hotel with nice garden walks and wonderful facilities for youngsters such as complimentary horse riding. The Ring of Kerry leisure drive was easily accessed from the hotel and other shorter but spectacular drives such as the Gap of Dunloe in the area.

Review 26:Nothing ... It was great!

Review 27:Fabulous hotel! The kids club is great and there at loads of activities for them to do. Family rooms are brilliant, as the children had a separate room, their own bathroom and their own tv! The staff were all fantastic, where nothing was a problem.

Review 28:The swimming pool had a lot of hair in it . Our hands and our swimming goggles were covered in it . I spoke to a member of staff at reception and was told that swimming hats are not compulsory but they should be !

Review 29:The facilities on site were excellent for children . The staff we very helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent for adults and children.

Review 30:To queue for poached eggs. Breakfast a little manic. Queues for breakfast blocks tea/coffee area, juice and fruit. Not good

Review 31:Horse riding - too short however!

Review 32:Was surprised with the number of times we ordered an item and we had to then re-order as the item(s) weren't working or what we required. E.g. heater, milk (too little), broken kettle set. This is only a small negative and pales into insignificance when taking into account the fabulous facilities and how quickly tiny problems were resolved.

Review 33:Loved the suite and the rooms decor. The facilities in the hotel were great. The bathroom was super beautiful and had a great view from the balcony. The restaurant meal we had in the evening was perfect and the wine couldn't have been nicer. Staff were eager to please and made our stay even more memorable.

Review 34:Truly exceptional in every respect. How many travellers would send a thank-you card to night staff thanking them for providing just as good a reception at one in the morning (due to flight rescheduling) as five in the afternoon?

Review 35:The leisure centre is a little bit tired and is unsupervised which I never came across before in any other hotel. Swimming pool was adequate but no frills.

Review 36:I loved the gardens; loved the reception area; loved the dinner (although it cost a fortune, it was lovely); loved the room; staff were very good.

Review 37:Found food in cafe restaurant to be overpriced don't get me wrong food was nice but I can get same standard in my local for half the price .

Review 38:Lovely relaxing hotel. Great kids club kids really I joyed it. Great pool facilities. Staff really friendly.

Review 39:The surroundings are beautiful. The hotel, the room, service and staff is of such a standard you would only realise by seeing it yourself! Couldn't of picked a more perfect hotel and location.

Review 40:Beautiful location with amazing views of surrounding mountains river & gardens. There was a lovely atmosphere in hotel which made you feel relaxed, staff were all very polite efficient & helpful, beautiful roomy bedroom. We had dogs with us & used the kennels & thought it was very well organised. Kennel even had luxurious bedding inside for dogs to sleep on, all were given treat bag & they had a good sized enclosure which was completely sheltered & dry by over head building. Dog enclosure "dog paddock" was very near so your pet could have a free run with out lead. They also had dog showers & towels incase your pet got wet or mucky. I did not want to go home.

Review 41:Everything! We stayed here four nights. We noticed the manager helping with everything, including running out to our car with an umbrella and helping with luggage since the other doormen were assisting other guests. The food was excellent, the room was beautiful, and the view was incredible. A true 5-star hotel in every way.

Review 42:We had no negative experience

Review 43:This is a beautiful hotel in an idyllic setting. We were very impressed from the meet and greet to our leaving with every aspect. Would go back and highly recommend to anyone.

Review 44:Absolutely nothing!!!

Review 45:Gorgeous hotel, fantastic location, great facilities, wonderful food, excellent spa/leisure facilities and best of all... outstanding staff and customer service! Consider coming to The Dunloe is a real treat!!!

Review 46:The Oak Room menu and food was a little disappointing - I wish we had eaten in the bistro both nights.

Review 47:Large well appointed room, great location and grounds.

Review 48:The pony trek is only 10 minutes long, I was hoping for something a little more advanced or at least a little longer.

Review 49:Staff were all very friendly and helpful Pool was really nice and warm Breakfast was lovely the view from the bedroom was amazing

Review 50:A genuine five star experience in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The view from the bedroom was breathtaking . The staff were excellent with a real Irish welcome

Review 51:Breakfast poor and not good enough for 5 star hotel. Would have expected a breakfast menu.hot buffet poor quality. No option to order eggs benedict or pancakes which should be available in a 5 star hotel.

Review 52:Location. Staff very good lovely scenery. Pool fantastic great walks.

Review 53:We loved everything! From the friendliness of the staff to the accommodation, facilities & food!! There's so much fun stuff for kids - the playroom is great & the large playground :-) The food was just divine & very very tasty!! We will be back soon!!!

Review 54:It was very busy for our stay - weekend and weddings/coach parties. So you need to factor that in. No tea/coffee making equipment in the room which seemed lacking for a 5* hotel.

Review 55:Very tranquil location. Choice of two restaurants. We had a superior room which offered plenty of space and a balcony. We didn't have the gorgeous view as we were at the back.

Review 56:no bad experience but the bed could have been better for such a class hotel also no tea or coffee making facility in the room..but no great reason for complaint

Review 57:enjoyed the food as we had dinner on arrival breakfast following morning was also top class .location of the property the gardens all very well kept and all of the staff very well mannered and courteous

Review 58:Would have been great if we could have had a dinner and drink outside of the room with the dog. But I understand in this is not easy in the current setting.

Review 59:Enjoyed our stay, very friendly staff and great facilities.

Review 60:Breakfast not great. Not enough really fresh locally sourced food. Kept running out of the Guinness bread. Unclear what time breakfast ended at ...front desk told us 1000 and then I discovered from one of the breakfast staff that it was 1100 on the weekends.... WiFi in the bedroom was intermittent. Toiletries in the bathroom were sparse until we requested more (were delivered almost instantaneously). More attention needs to be paid to the food.

Review 61:The service at this hotel is second to none. Nothing is a problem for the staff. In my global travels I have never come across such a pleasant attentive hotel staff. Any request we made was sorted out/delivered within 15 mins.

Review 62:Wonderful staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. Complimentary horse riding - amazing! The food was superb, views breathtaking and the whole experience was A+. We can't wait to come back.

Review 63:If I was to be really picky, I would like the option of a "served" breakfast, and the dinner menu was a little lacking in choice. (However the food and waiter service was first class)

Review 64:The staff and ambience were second to none. We were treated like like royalty from the beginning of our stay until we left. We dislike breakfast buffets as a rule, but the chef was there at all times to cook fresh eggs as you like them, Grounds were magnificent.

Review 65:Loved the fire and TV off the foyer where we were served the most delicious toasted sandwiches when we did not feel like eating in the restaurant. Staff so nice to look after us in this regard. I am a coeliac and chef made gluten free porridge for me on 2 mornings. Lovely! Anna

Review 66:one of the girls at the horses was quite rude she told us she was closing and grudgingly let our kids on the horse but wouldn't let one other little girl have a go on the horses at a time in September when there were very few children at the hotel the ride would have taken her about 7-10 mins and she let the little girl cry while she went about taking saddles off the horses, thought that was bad form

Review 67:Great facilities for kids and for us parents had a totally relaxing weekend

Review 68:The very stoney path down to the old tower. I found it difficult to walk on especially in the evening with lighter shoes on.

Review 69:The location is just wonderful. The staff were able and willing to help us with information about trips we planned to take. After an excellent meal in the restaurant the lounge is very relaxing. We loved the history of the area and the fact that it is readily available from reception. One of the highlights was being able to get inside the tower and up to the ramparts.

Review 70:Only suggestion would be that most tourists would expect air conditioning.

Review 71:Love the views. The staff were excellent. The property is amazing. Seems to be something for everyone. Delicious food and spectacular views from restaurants and bedroom. Pool, spa, horse riding, indoor tennis, walking trails, kids camp, even dog kennels...all this and a fantastic wedding during our stay!!!!Everyone we met had only good things to say also.

Review 72:it was unusaul not be served food in the Bar,e.g. snakc or sandwick , The two restuarants are adjoining so difficult to see why one considered better than the other, both had white linen on the tables.

Review 73:Pool Food Room were big and comfortable Staff really good

Review 74:The decor was dated and shabby. There were tiles falling off the leisure centre ladies toilets and I had to tell the cleaner who hadn't noticed! The Maitre D was a little frosty to begin with. 5* should be about impeccable service.

Review 75:The location and grounds were very impressive, with ponies frolicking in the paddock. The TV screen in the room was massive and high definition. The steaks were delicious and good wine list. MacIan Cameron (?) was excellent as our waiter, very friendly and just the right level of attentiveness

Review 76:Everyone was very friendly and helpful, but I particularly appreciated the receptionist's cheerful effort to get us into a room as quickly as possible even though we were early checking in. (We had an overnight flight from the States with two young kids and then a two hour drive to the Dunloe, so we were very anxious to get into our room.) The facilities are beautiful and well maintained. The horses were a big hit for our family and easily accessible. I was also surprised to learn that there were kids activities scheduled each day. Very kid friendly (down to the "noodles" in the pool). I would highly recommend the Dunloe to families.

Review 77:Distance to room

Review 78:Approach and reception. Enjoyed the surrounding scenery. Loved the room with balcony and enjoyed the breakfast variety Pool great also

Review 79:Though breakfast could have been slightly better when comparing to other 5star hotels i've stayed, but still nice

Review 80:Wonderful staff Excellent facilities, excellent pool, lovely walks (however not really suitable for pram) Complimentary fishing, horse riding and key to explore small castle/tower. Lovely food in restaurant, excellent staff (esp Authur), amazing view of Gap of Dunloe

Review 81:Food (breakfast, dinner) was just fine, not enough for a 5 star, and dinner way too expensive with nothing special to offer in exchange of that extra price.

Review 82:Nice location and excellent facilities.

Review 83:Bathroom water leaking on the floor, could have fell!! And the manager gave a box of chocolates for our trouble!!! And had to move rooms to a lesser type because it was busy.

Review 84:My only issue was that the shower was a shower\bath which is fine but the side of the bath was quite high and because I am pregnant found it a little bit of an effort to step in and out of. Not something that can easily fixed by hotel I know but maybe worth asking for a room with shower on its own if you would have difficulty stepping into the bath.

Review 85:This hotel was amazing. From the minute myself and my mam arrived, we were looked after. And not at all made feel out of place. I have found in previous hotels I've stayed, that you're looked down upon but this was not the case at The Dunloe. We were late arriving so we didn't eat dinner but we had breakfast the next morning. The food was delicious and there was a wide range to choose from.

Review 86:I don't recall observing anything that I would regard as being a negative however we did not dine in the hotel, other than breakfast (dinner in Killarney for the night).

Review 87:The location, grounds and arrival to the hotel are idyllic and picture perfect. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive and everything was finished to an impeccable standard. The views from throughout the property were stunning and really helped make the stay that much more memorable.

Review 88:The overall experience was just brilliant. We would diffidently go back. The staff are so well trained and friendly. The grounds and scenery are are just breathtaking. My family cannot stop talking about it. The Manager is a real gent. Thank you

Review 89:The relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Easy access to the pool area. The good food. One of our favourite hotels.

Review 90:Lovely hotel with really friendly staff which made our stay very comfortable.

Review 91:Stairs to the bedrooms, difficult with stroller.

Review 92:That I couldn't stay longer.

Review 93:Oustanding location and faultless service.

Review 94:Excellent hotel in an great location. The hotel room was spotless. The staff are brilliant and friendly.

Review 95:Really enjoyed our stay. Will return.

Review 96:Not much

Review 97:Great Location and was able to cater for a group

Review 98:Absolutely everything about this hotel was excellent

Review 99:Lack of Signage to get to The Dunloe from Killarney.

Review 100:Everything about it, especially the staff.

Review 101:good stay in a beautiful location. Amazing staff, lovely facilities. All positive!

Review 102:a jacuzzi as an addition to the pool area would be great!!

Review 103:Everything

Review 104:some guests were noisy late into the night

Review 105:the location gardens and grounds are all excellent

Review 106:Loved the beauty of this hotel and surrounding property. Great service and lovely rooms too!
