Reviews for Hotel Scapolatiello

Review 1:A long journey from the reception to the room, with no support for carrying the luggage - quite unpleasant. Room wasn't sound proof, we could hear anything happening in the next room. Wi-fi not functional at all in the room, not even phone network coverage sometime. First night the fire alarm sounded at 5:30am, apparently due to a small bird!!

Review 2:Nice view, nice garden.

Review 3:The room was okay, but kinda needs a renovation in the near future. The rooms are also quite small - much smaller than they appear on the pictures. Was very okay for us for one night, but for longer stay i would opt for a bigger room.

Review 4:Great location and the view. Breakfast at the terrace was really nice with wide variety of sweet and savory things.

Review 5:Difficult drive in very narrow winding road. Wedding party very noisy late into the night still going on strong after 1 AM.

Review 6:It is high in The Hills above the coast ...

Review 7:Imposible to reach by public transport, you need to rent a car or pay an expensive taxi to get to the Hotel.

Review 8:Our stay was overall good! We had the pleasure to meet Mrs. Patrizia at the reception, she has the charm of a North Korean but the efficiency that 007 would envy, she is the person to solve any sort of trouble you might have :) Anyway we were very happy with our room and the view from the hotel is just wonderful!

Review 9:Small negatives were the lack of self catering utensils in the apartment. The evening restaurant staff were also a little inconsistent in their levels of service. A little more attention to detail will take Italian charm to a level of excellence.

Review 10:Stunning mountain location offering peace and relaxation a stones throw from the crowded Amalfi Coast. This unique hotel offered charm and lovely facilities in the heart of a true Italian village. The setting is wonderful.

Review 11:Pool closes too early, not enough space to lounge.

Review 12:Great location, amazing view, with some nice restaurants up the hill. great breakfast buffet, view view view ..

Review 13:Fantastic location, very serene and quiet. Swimming pool is very good, with constant supervision and management. The outdoor areas of the hotel are the absolute highlight - gardens, terrace, seating - all exude charm and allow a very relaxed, enjoyable experience.

Review 14:Our superior room had a beautiful balcony but was so small, that my big husband could hardly move around. We complained and for the third night we got a gourgeous suite with a terrace. This was a very nice gesture and a good compensation for the first two nights.Thanks. Internet was not always available. Breakfast was basic but good. Do not be late for it - at 10.15 food and drinks are taken away.

Review 15:Very good location. In the mountains, next to Abbazia, with fantastic views from the balcony. The pool and the garden are incredible.

Review 16:The pool attendant was so rude! There were little children on sunbeds but our older girls 17 and 13 were only allowed deck chairs! Not sure if it was because we were not Italian. There was hardly anyone at the pool so lots left to fe had and lots of room. He really let the place down and has severely affected our scoring as we left feeling disgruntled!

Review 17:The setting was beautiful and the garden was absolutely lovely. The pool was a good size. The room was larger than expected and very clean. There were lots of lovely seating areas dotted around in sun or shade as you prefer.

Review 18:Restaurant staff a bit rude. Ordered food and they suggested something else. Dish came out was sea food said I didn't like see food so just took the meal away and still charged for it

Review 19:Great views

Review 20:we paid for a superior, but there didn't seem to be any difference to a classic. The room was nice, but small and the beds were short

Review 21:The views were immense. The Pool and the restaurant were excellent and the staff very friendly

Review 22:There is no food available in the hotel or even near by from 3pm to dinner. We were sent on a wild goose chase by several staff members at this time. The driving to get there is tricky and it is at least a 1 hour drive to ravello and 30mins to salerno.

Review 23:Functional , clean and cheap

Review 24:.......But, as we found out much to our dismay, there is very loud musicon Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. We were not told about this, and when we complained, the receptionist (the surly Patrizia), hung upon my husband 3 times. Next day, they asked if we wanted to move - theroom was smaller, had no balconies and one small window, so we said"No thanks". The other lady on reception was ok.&Quot;Free" internet doesn't work most of the time - "toomany people" was the explanation. What was supposed to be arelaxing 3 days, turned out quite stressful due to not being able tosleep til after 1 am on two nights. And please don't tell me inresponse to the noise, "Our guests want this" - we did not. Weare not saying don't have a band, but why does it have to be loudenough that our room vibrates???

Review 25:Well, we thought we liked the quiet location - which we chose thehotel for.....

Review 26:The coffee in general is not up to Italian standards (the breakfast coffee machine is pretty bad). The pool closes at 6pm... nooo!

Review 27:Lovely location away from the busy path of the Amalfi coast. The facilities are pretty large and include gardens, various places to eat, and a very nice swimming pool. The staff are amazing. The restaurant is good (we ate one dinner a couple of lunches and every breakfast there), and all were fine.

Review 28:We loved the remote and more isolated nature of this place. Walking in the area was gorgeous and proximity to the Amalfi was great. The restaurant serves fantastic food as a big bonus.

Review 29:Wifi was a bit hit and miss. There was a bit of noise at night from the little square outside but there is nothing the hotel can do about that.Finding the hotel took a little effort. These were very minor annoyances however.

Review 30:Gorgeous hotel and location. We stayed in the one bedroom self catering apartment which had everything we needed. The view from the pool is stunning. Staff were friendly and helpful. In particular, the man who checked us out was lovely. We really enjoyed out stay.

Review 31:The staff was OK, they definitely wouldn't go out of their way for a customer (not even close). The rooms and hallways are somewhat outdated but the beautiful hotel grounds and the views make it all worth it.

Review 32:Great location in the mountains above the Amalfi coast. Beautiful views and hotel grounds, nice pool, a lot of outdoor sitting/relaxing areas. Food in the hotel restaurant was good and not expensive at all. Definitely need a rental car if you're staying in this hotel and want to visit the surrounding areas. 10 minutes to VIetri Sul Mare (beach), 20 minutes to Salerno (ferries to Amalfi and Possitano). A wonderful spot for a very relaxing vacation.

Review 33:No single concern, this hotel guarantees quality at all levels.

Review 34:Restaurant: excellent service, humility and food and wine for a pleasant price. Room with balconey and perfect airco. Staff: very friendly, 1000% service. Swimmingpool: Antonio thanks for your excellent service!

Review 35:WiFi was useless. The apartment was ugly. The food was good but the menu for both lunch & dinner was the same- day in day out. I felt the hotel was overrated. And it's difficult to find.

Review 36:Location in the mountains was beautiful. The hotel rooms were good but it depends on the floor you were on - rooms starting from 301 were tight.

Review 37:The pool unfortunately closes quite early at 6pm, and we found the lunch/dinner menu slightly disappointing . Fine for the odd meal or two but not enough variety or quality to make one want to stick with the hotel for meals.

Review 38:Attractive hotel and location with a good swimming pool and overall level of service and cleanliness

Review 39:Very difficult to find and very poorly signposted for those with no local knowledge. Even beside the hotel, we did not know we were there.

Review 40:Restaurant staff were excellent, friendly, engaging. Breakfast was very good. Setting was beautiful. Terraces are beautiful.

Review 41:The staff, rooms and hotel are so quintessentially Italian. The location is away from the Amalfi coast but nestled above the beautiful town of Cava, there is a daily bus that runs to the town. I felt like I was on an Italian movie set just perfect!

Review 42:the wifi didn't work in the room, the sink was leaking and the floor was wet. bed was seperated to two small bed although we ordered one big beds . the bed has ants on the sheets. not so much of a 4 star hotel...

Review 43:great garden, swimming pool and view.

Review 44:Construction of a new metro train station going on front to the hotel made it difficult to access. It will improve access to the hotel in a couple of months.

Review 45:The staff and the Breakfast set up.

Review 46:The room itself is a little bit dated. But still very comfortable bed and a/c worked well.

Review 47:The hotel was very nice. The grounds are beautiful with gardens and pool. Common rooms and nice deck areas.

Review 48:The breakfast seems to cater for Italian tastes only - an egg or two costs extra; the same goes for TV practically only Italian TV stations but luckily there was BBC

Review 49:The terrace, the pool, the view of the mountains, the walking possibilities, the general atmosphere of the hotel

Review 50:For a four star rated hotel, we felt that Hotel Scapolatiello did not quite meet our expectations. Even though we stayed in one of the self-catering two bedroom apartments, we would still expect four star standards if that is how the hotel promotes itself. We would like to mention that the beds are rock-hard, both rooms had twin mattresses rather than double / queen mattresses, one bed was furnished with a sheet and worn woollen blankets which were not warm enough, the kitchenette could be better furnished with a kettle, tea/coffee and tea towels and the door to one of the bathrooms scrapes the floor and creates a lot of noise when it is opened and closed. While staff were generally friendly and tried to be helpful, we think they could have better knowledge of the area and region to assist with things like booking boat trips and other excursions. Travellers should note that a car is needed to get to Cava de Terrini and the hotel, and the hotel is beyond a very small passageway which is a tight squeeze for cars but is not impossible.

Review 51:The hotel is located at the top of Cava de Terrini in a gorgeous valley in Italy with stunning views. The staff were welcoming.

Review 52:GPS needed to find and parking tricky. Wifi intermittent.

Review 53:Our Suite was superb. The cuisine a treat. Location for "Ruins" and Amalfi Coast ideal. Rural Setting idyllic and excellent local Restaurants

Review 54:Wi if was spotty in our little apartment. No problem in the reception area.

Review 55:Staff was very friendly. We arrived late because our flight was delayed. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist named Emmanuel ( not sure of the spelling). He spoke to the chef and they had no problem seating us for dinner which was great since it was 10pm. We had dinner in the hotel 2 nights and the food was delicious and the price was great. We are still travelling in the Amalfi Coast and we keep comparing all of our meals with the ones we had at this hotel. Nothing compares. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment since we are travelling with our 2 daughters (22 and 18). They also loved this cute village. The grounds of the hotel are amazing. One of our daughters said she would love to get married there one day, We feel so lucky to have stayed in this hotel and its a total highlight for us. Getting to this hotel is a bit tricky. We used aTom Tom and it sent us through some crazy parts. You are better of studying a map beforehand or call the hotel for better directions.

Review 56:Rather aged hotel, tired atmosphere, tired people. Some rooms have "amazing" view on walls, roofs and parking.

Review 57:Parking. Breakfast if good for Italy. Some rooms have fabulous view on Vesuvius. Good choiсe if u are travelling in this area.

Review 58:Not really a complaint, just an observation: access to the hotel requires navigating down a narrow alley.

Review 59:The staff was outstanding. The hotel restaurant was closed so the staff went well out of their way by personally driving us to a nearby recommended restaurant. Our room was nicely decorated with lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the square upon which the hotel is situated. All this for 42 euro!

Review 60:To go to the highway, you need to cross the city center, it was a big traffic gam.

Review 61:Ambiance in the turkish bath and sauna were amazing, definitely make use of it. Great staff.

Review 62:When i had to leave the hotel, i loved it so much.

Review 63:The hotel and rooms were so beautiful. We stayed in a suite fit for a king. We also had a large balcony overlooking the valley & mountains, a great view! The staff were very friendly & helpful. We were on our way to Malta and stayed only one night at the hotel bc of lack of time but on our return driving back to Sweden, we stayed 3 nights more. Planning to return when we have more time off work...

Review 64:Rather difficult to find. If you get on the right track there a few signs to point you in the right direction but until you get on that track it's hard to find. You definitely need a car if you're staying here. The last short street leading up to the hotel is so narrow you can just barely fit the car through with mere inches to spare on either side of your mirrors. Restaurant is not open between 2:00pm and 7:30 pm so if you're wanting something to eat you will have to go into town which is about a 10 to 15 minute drive.

Review 65:Beautiful hotel located up in the mountains. Fantastic views from the terrace. There is a pool there but was closed for the season. I was there in early November. Room size was good as well as bathroom size. Comfortable bed and very quiet at night. Great restaurant for meals. Breakfast was very good as well with a huge assortment of anything you would want!

Review 66:2 beds out of four in family room very poor. You expect proper beds in family rooms. Staff partly not well trained, got no information about walking trails or sightseeing nearby. Requesting the best points to visit we got the answer: "stay at our hotel"! Noisy (thin walls to neighbours and facing the small court in front of hotel) all through the night. Toilets in restaurant not always clean. Service in restaurant lacking.

Review 67:Lovely hotel with many terraces and gardens to find privacy. Large Family Room located in a separate building. Beautifully located in the midst of green hills.

Review 68:Only one toast machine at breackfast . Otherwise excellent

Review 69:Size of rooms . Large well maintained Grounds , terraces and pool area Helpful Staff Free parking Value for money

Review 70:Pokey bathroom, with tiny corner shower, long overdue for renewing. Holes remaining in the tiles where other fixtures had previously been. Bar in the hotel wasn't open. Turns out that the bar/gelateria in the square is part of the hotel but didn't expect to have to go outside for a drink before dinner.

Review 71:Views, Pool, Very quiet

Review 72:Especially the public areas looked somewhat "tired", some of the "decorative" objects could be removed to give it a less stuffy atmosphere. The hotel also caters for groups so it can be quite load in the restaurant in the evening.

Review 73:The hotel is in a really nice location, calm and quiet, but very close to the Amalfi coast. We choose it because of the location and because it was a special offer. Although we liked the location (it is quite an adventure to get there especially if your car is nearly as wide as the street leading to the hotel) we expected a bit more from a 4 star establishment. The staff were friendly, the food and service in the restaurant was fine.

Review 74:Very narrow village street to drive along near to hotel.

Review 75:Beautiful mountain location. very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful gardens. Lovely swimming pool. Lots of great reception rooms. Car parking. village setting. Good resturant

Review 76:Boring sounds entering my room, from electronic Hotel facilities. Generally acceptable, not here: in the Silence of the wind.

Review 77:This time, I appreciated most: Swimming pool; Coordination lunch hall; Chef cuisine; books on local art and history...

Review 78:Parking is a bit tricky...the entrance to the hotel is through a tinyopening between two buildings that just fit our bigger car...not exactlya minus as it was exciting! The rooms were both hit and miss...we hadfive different double rooms and some were amazing (with beautifulbalconies), some were plain, and mine was a very stinky smoking roomeven though we requested non. It was a very nice room, had a huge walkout with cafe table and chairs and a view of the piazza in front of thehotel, however it smelled very strongly of cigarettes and sleeping withthe balcony doors open was not an option due to night noise from thepiazza. So we had to keep all of our luggage etc in one of our otherrooms. Another annoyance was the pool closing at 6 pm. Not sure if thiswas due to a wedding going on or if that is typical. This is not amodern fully appointed hotel, rather a typical older European hotelwhich is saved by its beautiful location and grounds.

Review 79:This historic hotel has a beautiful property and grounds. There was awedding being hosted there during our stay and it was magical. Thebuilding itself is older with two small elevators and it took a bit oftime figuring out how to get places, but it had an interesting feel toit. There is a ton of outdoor seating areas on the numerous balconiesand it is possible to eat outside weather permitting. The location isgorgeous and you are only minutes from a centuries old abbey. The staffwere very friendly and helpful and were willing to help us empty ourcars and even to drive them to their overflow lot. The pool was gorgeousand had an amazing view.

Review 80:Wifi signal was only strong enough to use in the apartment hallway by the front door, but this was not really a big problem.

Review 81:The hotel had great character, the pool and gardens were beautiful with outstanding views. We had a great meal in the restaurant. Our apartment was out of the main hotel up a narrow alley, and we got the real feel of living with the locals, which was great. Although advertised as 1 bedroom, it had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The quirky 'kitchen' was actually a big cupboard in the lounge! It was perfectly functional and added to the whole authentic experience. The car par is down the road from the hotel, as the street it is in is very narrow, but it was gated and perfectly secure. Would definitely return to this fabulous hotel.

Review 82:We read reviews about needing a car, but checked and were told it was doable by bus. It is, there's an hourly bus to nearby Cava de'Terreni where you can go in to Salerno. Outwards was fine but to get back to hotel one afternoon we had to wait two hours... It wasn't the end of the world, but meant that - since pool closes at 6pm - we couldn't go for a nice afternoon dip. Internet connection was pretty patchy.

Review 83:Hotel itself was nice enough, if little dated. Pool good, breakfast offering decent, bed comfortable, room clean. Basic but all you need on holiday! The hotel offer a transfer service - really flexible and friendly with it but they don't seem to publicise it enough!

Review 84:Parking requires skilled maneuvering especially wit big cars. A bit far from Amalfi coast if you want short driving time.

Review 85:Staff. Gardens. Pool. Very special and remote.

Review 86:The staff at reception was unhelpful, they didn't explain anything to us and apparently breakfast wasn't included for us but no one told us until a grumpy receptionist told us. Room was not cleaned once in our 11 day stay. They gave us clean bedding and towels though.

Review 87:Great looking hotel, nice pool, good restaurant with nice staff!

Review 88:Four out of eight nights there was a party until very late at night (after midnight) making it very hard to sleep. Although location beautful, very difficult to find at first; thereafter one gets used to it.

Review 89:Bautiful location with beautiful view Comfortable room with comfortable bed and linen Great breakfast!! Also good dinner.

Review 90:Did not realise the hotel was so far from the coast. The shuttle service to the nearest coastal town was expensive (20 Euro each way). We hired a car the day after we arrived. Tried to organise some tours, language barrier was too hard with some staff (our fault for not speaking Italian) No information in room about any local attractions, walks, churches, services etc. As with all of Europe, smoking allowed everywhere - pool, restaurant etc, gross! Bathroom a little outdated and had to crouch in the bath for a shower. Could not stand.

Review 91:Beautiful location. Great restaurant. Pool is lovely. Breakfast was great. Visit the beautiful church down the hill!

Review 92:Negotiating the journey from autostrada through Cava de' Tirreni to the hotel is quite tricky and my satnav was not that helpful. The final stretch of street next to hotel is very narrow - safer to use the hotel park at the bottom of the hill. There are frequent weddings on the lower terraces below the hotel - the music sometimes goes on quite late. Children play noisily in the village square until late at night and some of the standard rooms might be affected by this.

Review 93:Scenic location with mountain views. Plenty of outdoor seating areas. Efficient staff (mostly). The pool attendant does a great job of managing the relatively small poolside area. Friendly evening barman, Antonio. Restaurant food was very good.

Review 94:They only changed the towels once in a week and left the bed linen for us to change our own beds on day 4 of our holiday

Review 95:Lovely pool, the reception staff and pool man couldn't have been more helpful.

Review 96:The weather could be better. Perhaps due to mountains the clouds stay above the hotel. We had a classic room and indeed the bathroom need to be recovered. Was small with douche curtain. Towels excellent.

Review 97:Breakfast and dinner. However for British People we can imagine Breakfast is too poor because no eggs. Atmosphere of hotel was quit and very charming. Swimming pool good with enough sun beds. Towel service.

Review 98:The hotel is difficult to locate and parking can be an issue depending on the number of guests. The room we had was spacious and nicely decorated with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom and shower were small but functional and in need so some maintenance.

Review 99:The views from the hotel and room were amazing. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was reasonably good for continental.

Review 100:Wifi did not have a strong signal.

Review 101:Prior to staying at hotel Scapolatiello, we stayed at several hotels from Rome to Florence and back to Sorrento. Although they were nice, I found that the rooms at this hotel were More spacious with nice patios. It has beautiful terraces with breathtaking views of the valley and mountains. The dining areas Were large enough to accommodate inside or outside seating. The pool had beautiful views. Two weddings were held in large catering size halls here during our stay but did not interfere with other guests. The location of the hotel allows you to visit the surrounding towns and then escape to the serenity of This mansion in the hills.

Review 102:away from restaurants and shops, but quiet hotel

Review 103:Excellent hotel, breakfast is varied and delicious. The park is well maintained and beautiful. The staff is friendly.

Review 104:Hard to find could use more signs leading to the hotel.

Review 105:Pool was great, grounds are beautiful, the hotel is wonderful, quite breath taking views. I meet with distance cousins and the hotel staff helped me translate so we could converse.

Review 106:Double room was very small with tiny bathroom and a little out-dated - but everything else far outweighed this. With so many attractive public areas and terraces why would you want to be in your room!

Review 107:Just about everything. Amazing views peaceful setting attentive and friendly staff incredible gardens Lovely variety of public spaces and terraces very handy location for Amalfi coast & Pompeii

Review 108:the bed for the baby was an opened sofa so it did not suit, but we managed fine with cushions instead.

Review 109:the facilities: beautiful gardens and swimming pool surrounded by mountains. We stayed at an appartment which was cosy. the location, so quiet and nice. lovely people in the village around.

Review 110:The garden

Review 111:Old room furniture and decor

Review 112:Excellent value deal!

Review 113:Gorgeous scenery, nice rooms, good restaurant, lovely garden

Review 114:More directions to get to the hotel and warn future guests about the size of car you can get there with.

Review 115:Everything

Review 116:Very poor and old hotel, we order the suitte and it was awfull, bad smell, the bath was broken and licked.

Review 117:The view

Review 118:The staff unfriendly Have not available parking by night. Old facilities

Review 119:Not much to do in the locality

Review 120:The food, the pool and the comfortable room

Review 121:The room had a terrible smell like mold and the staff was soo unfriendly

Review 122:The mountain view was good

Review 123:beautiful place

Review 124:Nothing

Review 125:location!

Review 126:The rooms are very small

Review 127:The place is in an amazing shape. looks like a dream house from the 19th century.

Review 128:Beds not all too well. Rooms are dark. Need some more renovation.

Review 129:Great spot for a hotel. Amazing views. Good breakfast. Lots of facilities

Review 130:The location.

Review 131:The view is great.

Review 132:unhelpful staff, no amenities provided in apartments, slow wifi, parking is pretty far from the hotel.

Review 133:Large comfortable apartment

Review 134:small and shabby room, rude staff, slow wifi.

Review 135:Restaurant nearby was good. It is much better than the one in the hotel.

Review 136:The breakfast, the hotel staff and the weddingparty.

Review 137:The dining restaurant and mountain view.

Review 138:Great view from the terrace and good dinner in the restaurant

Review 139:none.

Review 140:location, staff, restaurants, mountain views

Review 141:The room was at the top floor really warm and not particularly nice

Review 142:Location
