Reviews for Farmhotel Efstidalur

Review 1:The staff were so welcoming, the rooms were lovely and warm with a nice bathroom and the outlook was stunning from the rooms. A perfect stay on the Golden Circle route, highly recommended

Review 2:Nothing really.

Review 3:They really do out of their way to make this place stand out among other guesthouses. Through a mixup we were checked in by one of the owners after his staff had left, and he went far out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy.

Review 4:No TV (if that's important to you)

Review 5:The staff were fantastic, talked for ages about the things we should see in Iceland. So happy to share local knowledge with us. The food was amazing and ice-cream was wonderful!

Review 6:No TV in the room.

Review 7:The hotel description on booking.com is a bit misleading, saying the rooms have either shared or private bathrooms. ALL rooms have PRIVATE bathrooms! The rooms are very nice and comfortable. Pancakes for breakfast were great!

Review 8:This is a really nice farm stay. Highly recommend. Really good value for a night accommodation and dinner overlooking the cows from the restaurant. The owner was so helpful and friendly even though we left earlier than previously booked for. Place was clean and cosy with everything you need for a nice in the wilderness.Close to the geysir and the waterfall but also the secret lagoon we went there until 6pm and then drove back for dinner. Aslo incredible freshly made pancakes for breakfast! Highly recommend.

Review 9:Sound insulation could have been better (this was not a unique problem to this hotel) Shower was a little cramped but a good shower. We were not aware there was a hot tub and would have liked to have used this.

Review 10:Really friendly, helpful staff. Room very warm and cosy (but a good size). Loved the restaurant - good spacious layout, breakfast very good, dinner very good value and tasty food and you could eat watching the cows eat!! Would really recommend this place. It had a café serving homemade ice cream. Everywhere was very clean and tastefully decorated. It was a lovely setting. We had a room with a view (half the rooms face the main building which is set against a mountain and the other half that we were in have a lovely panoramic view looking over fields and mountains for miles). We stayed in 4 hotels during our trip in South Iceland, this was our first (for 2 nights) and our favourite plus amazingly it was the best value for money of the 4. Well placed for visiting the Golden Circle.

Review 11:Cozy, warm (under floor heating!) and clean, ample of space, wooden interiors, fantastic views and restaurant! It is MUCH more better than what you see on photos! Location is fantastic as a base to go to glaciers or volcanoes!

Review 12:Best place to stay in Iceland! Amazing cosy cottages with views for miles around, cool setting on a farm, lovely restaurant, friendly farm and yummy homemade ice cream.

Review 13:The walls in the guesthouse were a little thin so if noise bothers you, this might be a concern for some people.

Review 14:We loved the breakfast and the dinner at the restaurant! We also thought the location was great for visiting Geyser and Gullfoss as well as Reyholt and the greenhouse there.

Review 15:There is not a hot tub as advertised but it did not detract from the stay at all as we were so excited to experience the farm, the other carefully thought out extras provided on the farm and surrounding areas.

Review 16:This place was an absolute dream. It is on a real working farm with cows, chickens and a lovely dog although from arriving at the main reception and beautiful log cabins you certainly aren't expected to slum it in the old barn. The staff were incredibly friendly. The views are fantastic. The location is great (gullfoss/geysir/thingvellier). The food is delicious as well, a lot of it made on the farm itself and you can taste the freshness and care that is put into making it (especially recommend trying one of their many flavours of homemade ice creams). I wish I could have stayed for much, much longer.

Review 17:Can't say a word to here.

Review 18:Very good stuff and lovely environment. Rooms are quiet and have a nice view onto the valley, they are large and enjoyable. Breakfast was simply amazing, homemade breads and skyr are both very delicious. You can enjoy the company of cows (separated by a window) during dining. Well recommended.

Review 19:Disappointed to hear that hot tub was out of order, Icelandic horse trips weren't running and they had run out of eggs (on a farm where there were chickens in front of our room!!). One member of staff was quite abrupt rather than offering solutions. Light in our room didn't works we reported this and were informed it was fixed but it still didn't work.

Review 20:Food in restaurant was nice. Recommend the icecream. All room requests fulfilled.

Review 21:sound insulation between rooms is very poor hot tub was out of service "some kids jumped around in it 3 weeks ago & cracked it" Lazy guests drive 100 metres to breakfast--?!

Review 22:Lovely natural hillside/farm surroundings Private cabin-ish room with private bathroom Ample hot water Excellent WiFi in room Nice breakfast in room with nice views Good value (mid-October) Near Geysir, Gullfoss & Thingvellir, etc. Friendly staff Cows!

Review 23:the only negative was that the food in the restaurant did seem a little overpriced for what it was. The young girl working in the restaurant was also not very friendly nor competent ,but we will give her the benefit of the doubt because she seemed to be new. They did have great ice cream ! All in all we would definitely stay here again .

Review 24:We really enjoyed staying at this hotel because it is clearly an active farm and they did a really nice job incorporating the cows and the work that goes on into a welcoming atmosphere for the guests. The accommodations were simple and it reminded us of cabins that we have stayed in in the Pacific Northwest and in North Carolina . The rooms are not cabins, but they have that feel because they are all made of wood . We really appreciated that the restaurant was serving very early, I think it was about 4:30 and they allowed us to order and have dinner because we were very tired from flying in and just wanted to eat and go to sleep . The front desk staff was absolutely wonderful . He was friendly and gave us some great tips about what to see in the area. The breakfast was great . Loved the beautiful view from deck of the rooms.

Review 25:Poor sound insulation between rooms means you hear everything.Restaurant food was a bit pricey and the smallest steak I have ever had.Driveway could do with some new gravel as there were potholes everywhere. No TV.

Review 26:Lovely location set back from the main road on a hill, just 10 rooms in a log cabin.Easy access to Geysir and other attractions.Friendly staff with a good attitude.

Review 27:It was a fantastic location in the golden circle. The breakfasts were delicious with homemade Skyr and a selection of different options. The views were amazing whether of the mountains behind, hekla in front or the cows in the barn. The rooms were very well sized, warm and with a nice bathroom.

Review 28:As a warning to future travelers, you can hear everything through the walls and can hear the guests on either side of you having conversations, etc.

Review 29:The setting was amazing and everyone was very friendly.

Review 30:Room was very warm when we arrived and even after having the window open all night the room was still hot.

Review 31:Fantastic restaurant where you get to sit and look down at the cows. They also make their own ice cream on site.

Review 32:Cramped shower/toilet area

Review 33:Functioning dairy farm location (cows can be seen feeding indoors adjacent to cafe.) Cabins in a separate building overlooking valley.

Review 34:WiFi did not work at all (we were informed of that at check-in time) Hot tub could not be used

Review 35:Nice rooms, great view of Hekla if you are in number 1 - 5

Review 36:Very poor sound proofing. Hard to get a good sleep. Ice cream is nice but not top class.

Review 37:Great location. Cows next to restaurant - a nice touch. Spacious room. Some of the staff/family:Linda and Mussi.

Review 38:It is on a working farm, but we didn't have much 'farm' interaction (could be considered either a plus or a minus, depending on your point of view...)

Review 39:Great Golden Circle location- huge room, great restaurant, friendly staff

Review 40:I have nothing negative at all to say. I wish we could have stayed longer!!

Review 41:This was by far our favorite place in our entire trip to Iceland. The staff was excellent. They were friendly and gave great suggestions for our trip. I cannot say enough about the food. We had dinner, breakfast and tried the ice cream shop. Our room was comfortable, clean, spacious and the view looking over the valley was just breathtaking. The property itself was such a cool experience to visit. Worth every penny!!!! I strongly re

Review 42:Hotpot did not work. Difficult to close outer door (need to really bang it). Sink working poorly, needs 1 hour to ged rid of the water.

Review 43:Very friendly and helpfull staff. Nice athmosphere and food.

Review 44:Wifi connection wasn't very strong. Dinner took a very long time due to a large group that arrived.

Review 45:The guest houses were lovely. Quaint wooden decor and nice view.

Review 46:Really welcoming staff and was amazed to look into the lounge and see glass through to the cow sheds, loved watching the calf's and cows, very quirky and cool! The place was stylish and modern and had great views.

Review 47:The farm is a working farm; we could get a good dinner on-site, and the room had charm, as did the main building with the cow barn attached. That it was farm to table eating, and this was the farm where the food is raised, was terrific.

Review 48:This place can be highly recommended for its location, the friendliness of its staff and also for its very good restaurant. When travelling in this part of Iceland the Farmhotel Efstidalur is the first choice.

Review 49:Pillow very soft Low water pressure from shower Both items are details we realy enjoyed the stay so nice and close to gysir

Review 50:Friendly staff. Nice cosy cottage room Home made ice

Review 51:There was nothing about the experience that I'd change. It was excellent.

Review 52:It was quiet, the farm was very beautiful with great views and lots of cows. The food was excellent. Staff were super friendly and helpful when it came to figuring out things to do and where to go. Got very helpful recommendations for things to do that otherwise we'd never have found.

Review 53:could have had a dresser in the room and more hangers. Also shower pressure was not very strong.

Review 54:Hosts took time to answer all our questions about their country and running the farm. They give us nice tips for hikes around their place. We recommend their ice cream and the restaurant!

Review 55:It's a little tricky to find from the road as the name is in Icelandic

Review 56:The location is perfect and the cottages are wonderful. The restaurant has great food for a reasonable Icelandic price

Review 57:The family who ran the hotel were so friendly and helpful, particularly the owner's daughter. Car trouble led us to be very, very late arriving, but she was very accommodating and met us after hours to let us in and offer assistance. The breakfast was great, and the location is very convenient for seeing some of the major Golden Circle sights. The room we stayed in had a nice, wood cabin feel to it that we enjoyed, and it was very warm in the room, despite being quite cold outside.

Review 58:Power was turned off during the night. As a result, we did not have WiFi which meant that the Aurora Borealis application running on my phone could not receive updates.

Review 59:Great location. Yummy hamburgers and ice cream. Cute chickens and dogs wandering around freely. Fantastic geothermal baths in near-by Laugarvatn. Nice breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff who gave us some good tips about what to do in the area.

Review 60:Great place, excellent location for Gulfloss and Geyser. Really friendly family farm hotel and we loved the whole ethos. Our 3 year old daughter couldn't get enough of the ice cream.

Review 61:Shower poorly maintained (sprayed water everywhere) and small. Paper thin walls meant we had to hear every loud word said/yelled by our neighbor at her children.

Review 62:Amazing location with great views - just 15 minutes from Geysir. Comfortable beds and large rooms (even with a rollaway bed added). Fits two adults and two kids comfortably. Log cabin construction. Cows. Beautiful views. Farm dog is very friendly. Breakfast is included and good (but Icelandic minimalist).

Review 63:We stayed in room 1. And the shower head was not working. It splashes the whole bathroom and made it very wet.

Review 64:Very warm room, good for cold weather. The grilled chicken in the restaurant was fantastic. Eating while watching the cows was interesting for the kids.

Review 65:You will need to walk 100m from the accommodation to the main building. If it's wet you can drive, buts that's just lazy :-)

Review 66:This is a working farm. Cows are visible through glass partitians in the lounge and restaurant. Great staff and very clean. Ask for a room with a view :-)

Review 67:The only disadvantage is the bad insulation between the rooms. We had the bad luck to have neighbours who arrived very late at night, talked really load, had their alarm go of in the middle of the night to start talking again. It ended up being a very big disappointment for us. We were there in the winter and there were only 3 rooms occupied. We would have appreciated it if they would have left an empty room between us and our neighbours.

Review 68:The snow was avalanching from the roof and created quite a problem getting in and out of the cabin and round to the car, (the farm was regularly snow ploughed).

Review 69:I had the meal of the day twice and it was excellent, and at a good price for Iceland. The breakfast was also good and all fare was really fresh. The cabins where quite spacious and very warm (had to turn the thermostat down quite a lot).

Review 70:A wondeful place to stop when you visit the Gold Circle : a real farm in which farmers and family are here for you. Nice bedrooms with all facilities (we had room number 4). We had dinner in the restaurant where we had the best hamburger we ever ate ! The taste of the beef was amazing !!! And home-made ice cream to finish the dinner !! We recommend to everybody you visit the Gold Circle to stop here for one or two nights and appreciate that peacfull location and so Nice people.

Review 71:One of us was very happy with the dinner, the other of us was not (bad communication with the kitchen). Was also hoping for more animal interaction.

Review 72:*The bar where you can watch the cows while enjoying their own home made ice cream. *Breakfast *Cosy room *One of the dinner plates *Being able to pat the calves *Location close to Geysir, meaning we got there early in the morning and we almost had the place to ourselves.

Review 73:We loved staying here. The rooms were very nice and with heated tile floors! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The food was great! Would definitely stay here again.

Review 74:This is a great spot for Geysir, Gullfoss and Fontana spa. Great little log like cabins. Very warm with good bathroom facilities. Wonderfully peaceful with great views. This working farm is also packed with character and charm.

Review 75:The door lock was out of order that repair is a must. The price us a little high in compare with the facility provided, renovation is recommended.

Review 76:It is really a good place to meet Northern lights and we success finally. It is amazing that the place is dark enough and no hills or obstacles surrounding that you are easy to find a place to enjoy the northern lights show. The home made ice-cream is delicious but the main course is just fair. The towel us clean and with good smell.

Review 77:Located less than 20km from Geysir & Gullfoss, this cozy, family-run farm hotel is perfectly situated for day trips on the Golden Circle. Don't miss the Barta Burger and ice cream at the hotel's beautiful restaurant, made from beef and diary from the farm. Even the locals come to eat here. Our room was nice and toasty in the winter with good light and nice views. This place is a true gem, hidden away in plain sight!

Review 78:We had a great stay here. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable. We loved the main lodge, where there's a cafe (with house made ice cream!), and restaurant. The complimentary breakfasts in the morning were fantastic. This is a nice, relaxing spot from which to base a few-days Golden Circle excursion. There's not much going on around the hotel itself, but if you're looking for a low-key, rather secluded spot, you wouldn't be able to find much better.

Review 79:We had to cancel our reservation at the last minute due to storms and road closures and they were very responsive, gracious and did not charge us despite our late cancellation. We loved the look of this place and hope to stay there on a future visit!

Review 80:This is such a wonderful place! The rooms are cozy and beautiful and quiet, large and comfortable, with radiant floor heating and beautiful views. Breakfast (included) was a heavenly buffet of milk fresh from their cows and a generous array of breakfast items from waffles to herring to eggs from their chickens. I highly suggest taking dinner there - there are windows looking out over their cows and it is among the loveliest things I've ever seen. Not to mention the food is excellent. The soup was exquisite. The staff were fantastic. They have an array of sweaters hand knitted by ladies in the community for sale that are just beautiful and quite reasonably priced. I could not resist perusing these while enjoying their famous ice cream. I cannot recommend Farmhouse Efsti Dalur highly enough!!!

Review 81:Great location on the Golden Circle. Food was excellent, made with farm produced ingredients. Room was spacious & clean. Bed was comfortable. Dining room offered view into the dairy barn.

Review 82:Very friendly and welcoming owners and staff. Very good food in the restaurant at, yes, a surprise, affordable prices. You can eat your delicious meal whilst looking down through windows onto the very well-cared for cows in their own 'dining-room' eating their food. Brilliant! Excellent location, very comfortable log cabin accommodation. All in all, a great place to stay if you like feeling close to the land. If you prefer cityscapes, this is probably not for you.

Review 83:The temperature in the shower was difficult to control. Ran from scalding hot to lukewarm in 15-second cycles. Considering all the other things we enjoyed, we would not let this stop us from making a return trip!

Review 84:This was our favorite of the six places we stayed in Iceland. A very unique experience! Staff was super friendly - made us feel like friends of the family.

Review 85:Friendly staff, perfect food.a

Review 86:Food was amazing Staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 87:Amazing food... beautiful location - nearby the Fontana hot springs... very comfortable accommodation !

Review 88:Nice, comfortable stay along the Golden Circle route. Staff was very friendly and provided great recommendations for additional sights in the area.

Review 89:Horrible sound proofing in the rooms.

Review 90:Loved the friendliness of the staff and it was a great location to venture to gullfoss and geysir.

Review 91:great host and lovely place!!!

Review 92:Not able to see the animals/farm

Review 93:Nice heated room & breakfast

Review 94:Views are amazing. Staff was great. Place was super nice and cozy. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely come back!

Review 95:The breakfast was great, so was the dinner. My son loved the cows, great for kids.

Review 96:Was able to see the northern lights and staying on the farm was really cool.

Review 97:Very rustic farm feeling

Review 98:Not powerful shower No telly!

Review 99:good breakfast with a nice view! Close to Golden Circle cosy cabin

Review 100:Great place, good food, fun for families and couples alike.

Review 101:I had a excellent stay due to the staff mostly. The free upgrade I received was appreciated.

Review 102:Nothing, would recommend it

Review 103:Very comfortable stay, nice food and friendly staff

Review 104:No hot tub...

Review 105:Chickens! Ice cream! Food! Recommendations!

Review 106:Room was a little too warm.

Review 107:Uniqueness of the setting. Great food. Loved being out of the city.

Review 108:Rooms were a little too warm with no access to the thermostat.

Review 109:Lovely food, great facilities, lovely room.

Review 110:Staff seemed completely exhausted and overworked.

Review 111:Loved the table by the cows. Loved the feel of the cabin. Convenient. Beautiful setting.

Review 112:Working farm with cows - have coffee with the cows! Beautiful views. Nicely situated between Laugarvatn and Geysir.

Review 113:Room was too warm

Review 114:It wasn't quite the interactive "farm experience" we expected.

Review 115:Delicious ice cream.

Review 116:Great little warm cabins with underfloor heating! On site home-made ice cream Good location
