Reviews for Taxiarchis

Review 1:The view from our second floor terrace of Pedi Harbor and the distant Turkish coast was ideal for sunsets and sunrises. The Chorio location above the daytime crowds in Yallis Harbor below always meant peace an quiet yet accessibility to restaurants, shops and entertainment with a local ambiance.

Review 2:A few items for self catering would have been nice eg. Washing up liquid, tea towel, dish cloth

Review 3:Very welcoming, friendly family who were always willing to help

Review 4:we liked everything

Review 5:Located in the picturesque Chorio, quiet and peaceful.. Easy walk to Pedy Bay.. We got Symi-style split level room, which was very spacy, clean and comfortable. Tasty breakfast.. Real Greek hospitality...

Review 6:See above.

Review 7:Loved being part of village life and the views were sensational. Only complaint was lack of washing up detergent and tea towel. Otherwise fantastic and a wonderful breakfast included plus being picked up and returned to the ferry.

Review 8:-

Review 9:Great location, you will want to stay in the village rather than in the port. Good restaurants nearby and the beach is only 15 minutes down the hill, and so is the port.

Review 10:Didnt like the walk to/from the harbour area, quite hilly and not funny in the heat.

Review 11:Loved the apartment we had, it was over 2 floors so the bed was up on a mezzanine. Beautiful! The owners were very nice.

Review 12:Friendly and very helpful owners, picked us up from the port upon arrival, brought our luggages to the port when departing. Good location, beautiful balcony, accommodation close to bus station. Great choice!

Review 13:Franceso was very nice and accommodating. He was there at the harbor to pick us up even though we didn't call to make arrangements ahead of time. On the last day he also brought our bags down so we could goto the beach one last time.

Review 14:No good wifi signal inside the room. Neither dishwasher liquid nor sponge nor vetex in the kitchen (all of these have no cost, are very useful and offer a nice touch) Not a pleasant walk either to harbour nor to pedi beach (but we had a car!)

Review 15:Our room was in the first floor with veranda and the view to pedi beach was wonderful. Very helpful owners, very spacious room.

Review 16:The view from our studio was amazing. The breakfasts were delicious, enough so we only needed a light lunch. The family are very considerate, picking you up from the ferry and returning us there when we left.

Review 17:Some might regard the location at some distance from the main amenities of Symi harbour and the steep climb from there to Taxiarchis as a disadvantage. But there is a bus between the two and in any event we think this disadvantage is heavily outweighed by the quietness and wonderful view.

Review 18:We love the quiet location and especially the spectacular views across Pedi Bay to the mountainous Turkish coast opposite. The family that run the apartments are lovely. It is close to Zoe's Taverna for lovely evening meals and The Olive Tree Coffee Shop both at the top of the Kali Strata.

Review 19:If you really want to relax, you need to stay at Taxiarchis..Room is perfect & the view is amaizing. But the best part is that when in Gialos is so hot that you cant even go out of the room, at Taxiarchis you can because its on the top of the hill. The owner and all the family was friendly & helpfull. Tip: Taxi from Gialos to the apartments costs just 3,80€.

Review 20:Nothing - we liked everything about Taxiarchis appartments!

Review 21:The hotel is beautifully situated, quiet and peaceful, but still close to nice restaurants for example. We liked to stay up in the old village with walking distance to both the harbour and Pedi where you can swim and also get a taxiboat for other beaches. Also close to startingspots for different trekkingtrails! Very nice hostcouple! They pick you up at and drive you back to the harbour, and helps you to store your luggage while waiting for the boatdeparture.

Review 22:My first stay was 28 yrs ago when they first opened and had great expeience Frank and his wife Eva where lovely hosts. I couldn't believe that they where still there I was so excited to go back and recapture the wonderful memories of my stay and beautiful Simi the place looked as it was just built brand new spotless I even got the same studio facing pedi a dream come true and again they made me feel at home very sweet people but what was even better this time is Eva's rice pudding was even better the second time. For me staying in the Horio is a more authentic Greek experience the harbor is interesting but busy as expected. We walked from our hotel to pedi beach which was very pleasent and there are two taverna's for a relaxing lunch and drink highly recommend it!

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:Good location - easy walking to both the beach and Giallo. Felt much more local in character than the port area. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Frank and his family were great - helpful and friendly.

Review 25:Nothing really

Review 26:Very friendly owners/operators. Even made toasted ham sandwiches for the kids upon arrival. Views of Pedi beach were spectacular. Transfered luggage for us too.

Review 27:Leaving after just six nights.

Review 28:Frank is a wonderful host and an enthusiastic hands on manager of the family business. Picked up at the port. Given all the information we needed and housed in an apartment with a fantastic view of Pedi beach and harbour. Breakfast on the terrace with an even better view is a joy. Lovely fresh food. Although high in the Chora the regular friendly bus takes you to the beach and the main harbour where everything can be found. The chora has three restaurants and a lovely communal street for evening drinks. Love it.

Review 29:- the apartment we got was bigger than expected, clean and very comfortable - the view on Pedi bay is wonderful - being in the village rather than in the harbour makes it more authentic and charming - the couple who runs the hotel is very nice and welcoming

Review 30:We stayed at Taxiarchis for two nights. We were really impressed with the place and Frank and his wife are do friendly. Frank picked us up from the harbour and gave us tea and coffee when we arrived. We had a lovely room which overlooked Pedi beach. It was really clean and the bed was comfortable. We had our own terrace and there is also a large communal terrace which we had breakfast on in the mornings and some beers at night. It has a good view of Pedi beach and we enjoyed watching the sun rise in the morning. In terms of location, Symi is definitely worth a visit and we would recommend Taxiarchis as a place to stay. It is convenient for the harbour and pedi beach. Also there are some nice local restaurants nearby. There is also a regular bus service that can take you up and down the hill. If we return to Symi we would stay here again for sure.

Review 31:Really good place to stay, even better with a family : rooms are big. Breakfast is delicious! And the owner and his family are so nice! The hotel is near to a bus station, and not so far from the port!

Review 32:First of all, the people was very kind and helpful. Rooms were clean and big enough even for a long period vacations. Getting a free transfer from port to hotel was an additional kindness..

Review 33:The hotel is located just outside Symi main town but it's very easy to arrive there by bus. It takes 5 min and 1,5 euros. The bay that the hotel is located is very quite and romantic, you're surrounded by olive trees and you can watch Pedi beach..Francesca the owner is a wonderful man also his wife..He took us from the harbour and leave us back with his car..I wish we could have stayed more next time hopefully..

Review 34:Air conditioning kept the room nice and cool. The view from the patio was spectacular. Quite near shops and restaurants ever though your at the top of the hill the facilities near are excellent.

Review 35:I didn't notice the tv shelf in the room its to low and I smacked myhead on it ! however easily resolved my wife is shorter than me so weswapped sides of the bed. Also the toilet didn't have a seat onlylike the porcelain and then a plastic cover, like as if the seat bit wasmissing, is that a Greek thing, I never saw that before ?

Review 36:Frank from Taxiarchis picked us and some other people up at the harbor Iwas expecting this from reading other reviews, its a really nice touchbecause I am sure we would have big trouble finding this hotel, Ididn't even realize this hotel is not in Symi town as the address onthe web site says Main Street Symi anyway on arrival at the hotel wewere given a cup of coffee and taken to our room which was large andspotless good shower and aircon with a great view from the terrace, wealso noticed Symi was boiling compared to the much fresher air inChorio, we walked down the hundreds of steps to the town once, no waywould we attempt to walk back that way, the hourly yellow bus cost 1,5euro, our original plan was to have dinner in Symi but instead we walkedaround Chorio village and found Zoe’s very nice home cooked meal at veryreasonable price, following day after a nice breakfast in the hotel wetook the bus to Pedi (1.5euro) spent 2 hours had lunch then back on thesame bus to Symi (1.5 euro) all in all we had a very nice trip to Symiand would recommend Taxiarchis.

Review 37:The location (far away from the city noises) can be considered as a disadvantage by someone. However, it was an asset to our opinion; it 's worth walking the 10 minutes upstairs path and there is also the alternative of the bus service every hour.

Review 38:The view from our balkony to the valley until Pedi was amazing. The owners are very friendly and the hospitality is more than the typical greek. The apartment was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast is basic, but enough to start pleasantly your day, while admiring the view from the terrace.

Review 39:The hotel is at the top of the hill so getting down to the port required a 10 to 15 minute walk. To get back to the hotel it was best to get the bus. The Wifi didn't reach to the rooms. The windows had shutters but the glass door just had a thin curtain so we were woken as soon as the sun came up. Please replace the curtain over the door with a blackout curtain. There wasn't any atmosphere in the big hotel. From our outside sitting area we heard the goats and crickets but there was also a big motor somewhere that seemed to run all the time.

Review 40:We were met at the ferry and dropped off with our luggage back at the ferry. The rooms were clean and practical in buildings purpose built to be an hotel. Breakfast was ok. The staff was friendly and available but very busy. There was a nice view from our private sitting area over trees down to the bay. We had a kitchenette. I'd recommend this hotel but next time I'd try to stay closer to the port and the action.

Review 41:The breakfast itself was nothing special and the coffee was awful instant coffee, but then that was the case in all the hotels we stayed in during our trip.

Review 42:The accommodation is basic but has everything you need and is good value for money. We really liked staying outside the harbour area, it was calm, relaxing and less touristy. The hosts were very friendly and came to pick us up from the harbour when we arrived. The breakfast terrace has a fabulous view into the sea.

Review 43:Beds are not so comfortable, wifi is not enough at rooms, a bit far from city center , you should get taxi or bus back to hotel , tv is too old and any option of international channel, bedroom is too small for a very big bedroom

Review 44:Quite , nice wiev of the rooms, owner is so polite and friendly, clean room and big enough, very nice kitchen appereaşs , u can find everything

Review 45:Frank called us on the boat to pick us up from the ferry. We booked a studio but got upgraded to a very nice apartment (#27, highly recommended!). The view from our balcony as well as from the patio was breathtaking. It was wonderful to sit on our balcony and hear nothing but the goats and crickets. The apartment was very clean as well.

Review 46:Nothing to dislike

Review 47:We were met by Frank at the ferry great service ,escorted us up to the hotel .He made our stay there extra special as he was so very helpful and friendly .the view from the balcony was beautiful.Frank and his wife run a great hotel there ...very nice couple

Review 48:good location with views of the bay. roomy apartment, good shower

Review 49:Nice location and view. Clean comfortable apartment. Good breakfast and helpful owners

Review 50:Beautiful view, spacious room with comfortable beds, decent pillows, quiet a/c, good wifi and super view

Review 51:view from terrace. helpfulness of staff. cleanliness of room. nice breakfast

Review 52:Location, accommodation and friendly and helpful staff. Regular bus service to beach and port

Review 53:The breakfast not good value for money no variety.

Review 54:Clean great views to Pedi beach

Review 55:Location, welcoming, value for money, the room with a special view, every request satisfied

Review 56:hard to reach without a scooter, but a bus is available

Review 57:beautiful view and big room

Review 58:We liked everything

Review 59:The view was magnificent, the room clean and the owners very helpful.what more can we ask for? We will definitely be coming back

Review 60:Frank meets you at the port, with a minibus so no need to climb the hill and get lost.

Review 61:You've very much in the village (Chorio), rather than the port, and the climb up is a schlep. On the flip side, the views en route are astounding. You can take the bus if so minded. The location is not so much a negative - just something to be aware of if mobility is an issue.

Review 62:Delightful owners (Franciscos "Frank" and his wife) made us feel very welcome. Splendid views down the valley, and a nice selection of trad tavernas very nearby. The rooms (we took a larger one consisting of a living area, a mezzanine with two single beds, and a separate double, as well as a generous terrace) were extremely spacious, immaculately clean and distinctly a notch up from "standard" Greek island apartments (we've stayed in dozens!).

Review 63:Nothing, it was all perfect

Review 64:Fabulous greek island location, with magical views over Pedi, with real local village appeal. Frank and his family were perfect and very wlcoming hosts, from the moment he met us at the ferry until he dropped us off when we were leaving. Very clean and attractive rooms which were kept sparkling by two very cheery and friendly young women. First class breakfast, fresh bread and Symi eggs, in a to-die-for location.

Review 65:Nice and friendly Staff Breakfast (you can ask for some preference) Position (nice panoramic view, quiet area, you have to walk a littel bit to reach the harbour)

Review 66:Frank has this down to a science. He picked us up at the ferry without having to ask which ferry we were on (there are only a couple a day) which is amazing given the climb and windy walk it would have been with our bags. He serves the second best breakfast I have had in Greece, and then takes your luggage down to the harbour and stores it at a shop for you so that you can enjoy your day after check-out. Great views from the balconies and good a/c. Everything up in Chorio is much more authentic than down in the harbour area as well. Definitely highly recommended!

Review 67:Excellent breakfast. Fantastic view from the rooms. Pick-up and drop-off from ferry to hotel included. Good position in Horio so that you could walk to Pedi beach and down to Symi harbour too.

Review 68:Excellent service. Great views from the balcony. Also from the breakfast table where you will be served an complete breakfast. Clean and spacious apartment. Located in Chora on the hills beyound the port it demands walking - promotes the wellbeing. If it´s too hot you can take the bus, it runs every half hour. You will be picked up at the port when you arrive and dropped off when you leave. We can highly recommend this accommodation if you are prepared for some exercise!

Review 69:The location in itself was great, although the walk from the harbour is quite steeply uphill. Also the kitchens in the apparments could do with some more crockery (glasses, mugs, bowls)

Review 70:The staff were very friendly and it was good value for money with a lovely breakfast, air conditioning and ocean views.

Review 71:Spectacular view to the Pedi Beach means that the appartment is up in the hills. 367 stairs from Symi harbour to the appartment is a torture. After midnight there are no taxis or buses. My feet still hurts (after 1 week).

Review 72:Spectacular view from the room window and terrace, clean, comfort, hospitality. I've booked the appartment on the same day of my arrival from Rhodes and the owner came to the harbour when the ship arrived to pick us up. He also drove us to the harbour the last day. If you take this appartment you will not be dissapointed, besides the location.

Review 73:Excellent accomodation and incredible nice hosts. Their hospitality was beyond everything we had experienced before, even though Greeks are very nice hosts. The view from the hotel is great since it is located in the outskirts of the village. You get a kind of country feeling... Bus stops are very near and easy to access as well as the Kali Strata, path to the center of the town.

Review 74:We have been visiting Symi for 10 years. This iis our second stay at Taxiarchis and we will definitely return. Set in a lovely country location with stunning views of Pedi Bay and Turkey in the distance. The owner Frank and his family are very welcoming and friendly. Good spacious accommodation. Overall a great place to stay.

Review 75:Wonderful town of Symi. The property of Taxiarchis is located between Pedi Beach and Symi town. It is quiet and relaxing. The owner, Frank was there to meet us at the dock and take us to there when we left. He provided tourist information which we appreciated. The property is very well maintained and the studios are spotless. We would love to stay there again. Everything was perfect.

Review 76:If you want a real Greek experience, than this is the place to stay. Tucked in a small village between the port and Pedi beach with a wonderful view from our room all the way to Turkey. But it is a country setting, with typical roasters crowing, church bells ringing etc in the morning, certainly adds to the charm of the place. There is a lot of walking as everything is up hills or stairs one way or the other. But there is a bus that runs on the half hour to the Port or the beach about 100 metres from the hotel, at a cost of 1.50 euros. There are shops and restaurants very close. Franco the owner is only to happy to help and picks you up and drops you back to the port. Will certainly be back.

Review 77:Shower water was lukewarm, which would be fine in the summer but we werethere in April.

Review 78:We stayed in the large room upstairs with a great view of Pedi beachfrom our balcony. The room was a decent size, and includes akitchenette, dining area, double bed and separate bathroom. The ownersare lovely, very helpful and are happy to pick you up from the harbour. It's about a 10/15 minute walk from the harbour up the KaliStrata to the guesthouse. It takes the same amount of time to get toPedi Beach. The breakfast was also very generous and good.

Review 79:view from room was great, Frank the owner was very helpful.

Review 80:Good room, fantastic view, lovely hosts. Price worth.

Review 81:The owner is not kind, he is only a business man and he doesn't know the greek hospitality

Review 82:The hotel is conveniently located just above Symi port and offers a lovely view down on Pedi beach. The owners are very nice and helpful.
