Reviews for Matahari Beach Resort & Spa
Review 1:My boyfriend and I stayed at the Matahari for 4 nights, and have mixed feelings about it. Overall we had an enjoyable stay, but our feeling was that it was somewhat overpriced and it certainly didn't feel as special as some of the other places we stayed in Bali during the same trip. The whole place has the feeling of being a bit jaded. In some ways this is quite charming - the place has a sort of faded glamour about it, like it was really fancy a couple of decades ago. Unfortunately though this means that some parts of the hotel are in desperate need of upgrading - the room we spent most of our time in smelt pretty musty/faintly mouldy which didn't pass the whole time we were there (we moved rooms after our first night as originally we were put right next to where early morning music is played and so didn't want to ask again). The towels in the bedroom look like they'd been used 1,000s of times and the dressing gowns in the bedrooms were a bit moth bitten. That said, the grounds of the hotel are really pretty and very well kept - there are plants and flowers everywhere. The pool is big and clean, and the beach restaurant is a lovely place to eat lunch and dinner. We also hired bikes and were provided with sarongs to wear into nearby temples free of charge. The food varied from really quite delicious to average: we had the half board option and the breakfast was excellent, but dinner a bit more hit and miss. Some nights we really enjoyed the food, but at other times had fish that was very overcooked and portions that were very small. Again, there was a sense that you were paying a lot (certainly by Balinese standards) for what you were getting.Similarly, the staff ranged from being very helpful to having a slight fed up and can't-be-bothered attitude. I would have expected more from a 5 star hotel. As I said, overall we enjoyed our stay but we probably wouldn't come back.
Review 2:Do not expect gastronomical delight. Some of the rooms are lighter than others It is a very long and interesting drive from the airport.
Review 3:A beautiful secluded location to completely unwind beside an exquisite salt water pool surrounded by a spectacular assortment of tropical flora and fauna or be lulled into a deep state of of relaxation by the gentle lapping of the waves by the seashore you will be serenaded by an amazing gamalon musician
Review 4:The staff is incredibly friendly and the location just great in order to enjoy life and relax! I cancelled part of my trip to extend my stay in Matahari! The spa treatments are ones of the best ever had (particularly the six hands balinese massage!). There is complimentary yoga every morning that helps you start great into the new day. I would definitely go to Matahari again!
Review 5:Cost for spa, taxis, food is 5 times what it is outside the resort which makes you feel a bit ripped off.
Review 6:The pool in the villa was amazing! Beautiful resort, great staff, great beach bistro and beach activities. Giant chess, darts etc. Lovely and super relaxing place. Wonderful snorkeling nearby.
Review 7:Menunof restaurant is good for max 2-3 day. We spent 10 days and we were extremely boring of the same cusine. Only for lunch you can find 3 positions menu of the day. Short list of wine, e.g. 1 New Zeland Savignion Blanc and 3 Chilean SV:( not for this level hotel. Medium level of masages, we hade better on street. I felt like the next guest and I did not feel power of masage. Rip-off hotel car service: 35 $ per hour:((( for the next hotel we had car with driver for 14 hours trip at 80$ price! Margin for the same exursion are 600 and more percent! Without difrences in quality. Do not use.
Review 8:Swimming pool, cristal water and long, good for real swim. Comfortable rooms, exelent outdoor bathroom. Nice beach with good beach bar. Service exelent, warm and smily people. Beautiful spa. Good breakfast.
Review 9:No big choice at breakfast( my wifes opinion) Actually nothing else
Review 10:Authentic baly style architecture... Beautyful! Always friendly hotel staff. Scuba diving at the island close by is excellent, one of the best dive spots I have ever seen. Yoga class in the morning was really great, very energetic, the Yoga is very good for the back muscles and the general well being. I benefited from it a lot. The group leader is areal master. Thank you!
Review 11:Such a wonderful hotel in many ways. Accommodations are great, service is fantastic, staff amazing and the food was truly delicious. Our best stay ever
Review 12:The resort is top in everything: lobby, pool, garden, beach, restaurants(super cuisine!), spa (a dream!!)... The staff is really at yourservice. &Quot;Non plus ultra" in North Bali. If back in Bali (orJava) we will come again @matahari.
Review 13:A better selection of food for the breakfast and dinner.
Review 14:The beach was private and beautiful and the resort facilities were of a high standard. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and private
Review 15:the costs for the transfers to other places was a little be overpriced.
Review 16:one of the most beautiful resort I have ever seen. romantic dinner on the beach. amazing swimming pool, deep clean and almost empty. the villa has an outdoor shower and a large bathtub for 2 people. reasonable price for healthy dinner, friendly staff.

Review 19:Excellent service and really peaceful location.
Review 20:Definitely not worth.
Review 21:No TVs Disappointing food Noise from mosque during the night
Review 22:Stunning gardens and pool Interesting entertainment Excellent beach restaurant Really good spa
Review 23:This is an all in resort! So it is nearly the same atmosphere as in Turkey with the color bracelets. The resort is expensive but the service is poor. You get not the idea to be welcome in the resort. at the end of my stay i was wondering what transport to seminyak would cost me. 129 US dollars. When a decent private car outside the resort will do it for 50 US dollars.
Review 24:The restaurant at the beach! it makes a difference and the service there is also good. The free bikes are also a pro
Review 25:The hotel is exquisitely appointed wonderful well trained staff, beautiful gardens and a quiet and romantic location. Such professional management and infinite attention to detail. Whilst not having the "in vogue" offering of a small private pool with each villa, the main pool is so attractive, peaceful and relaxing, all adding to the interest of the hotel. The secluded beach and sparkling sea are so easily accessible from the expertly tended lush gardens. The dining was always a treat (if a lot of fish) but on asking if we could choose an alternative from the a la carte menu, we were delighted to be told that we could at no extra cost.
Review 26:First day we could experience the fantastic buffet breakfast but the rest of the week it was not buffet hence it was slower and a bit dissapointing. We probably would not notice anything if we have not had the first day experience - so it was only a minor issue.
Review 27:The atmosphere, food, cocktails and the fantastic staff made it an excellent holiday in this superb hotel! It was especially handy for a birdwatcher to be in striking distance for the Bali Barat National Park with the Bali Starlings of which only 32 individuals survive.
Review 28:A very minor point but one worth considering - the choice on the half board menu got a little repetitive throughout our stay and was very 'fish' orientated - so if you are not a 'fish-lover' it may not be the option of you. Saying that we chose to opt out of the half board menu a couple of nights and the food on the regular A la carte menu was wonderful and very reasonably priced.
Review 29:If you want to get away from everything, enjoy peace, tranquility and the opportunity to totally relax then this is the place for you! Matahari is an amazing place, with fantastic staff who serve you day and night to make sure your stay is absolutely wonderful. Definitely book yourself into the Spa, the treatments are amazing. The opportunity to use the free bicycles to explore the area is well worth a few hours of your time whilst stopping off for a few cool drinks from the many road side stalls on the way. A truly wonderful vacation, one we will cherish for a long time and hopefully be back at the Matahari sometime soon.
Review 30:The hotel is extreemly overpriced. The food is terribly expencive, primitive and badly cooked. Breakfasts are simple and boring for a luxury hotel they claim to be.
Review 31:One of the most beutiful hotel I've seen: all over in balinese sculptures, flowers and great wood carvings. Nice service, friendly stuff.
Review 32:Equipment in diving school was poor (here: life jackets for children), no shorties for children.
Review 33:It is a perfect place to relax and enjoy as couple or with family. Gourmet food, the beautiful garden, villa, very friendly staff. Our second time in this hotel - we would come a third time!
Review 34:My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. I cannot fault the venue orstaff. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were madeto feel special. We had the most relaxing and enjoyable time and to topit off the food was excellent (I would go as far as to say that we hadthe best holiday we have had in years)
Review 35:To many fly was on the beach
Review 36:Long travel from denpasar
Review 37:Everything was excellent
Review 38:Peace and excellent menus in the restaurant
