Reviews for Guesthouse Egilsstadir

Review 1:We had such a wonderful experience here! Right from the moment you drive up to the guesthouse you know it will be something special. The staff at the front desk were lovely and very welcoming. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was one of the best meals we had in Iceland. Our room was very comfortable, with a beautiful view over the lake. The bathroom was modern and spotless. Overall, I cannot recommend this highly enough!

Review 2:It is a little overpriced for a fairly standard room, but still worth it!

Review 3:The guesthouse is more like a hotel, but it has still kept its country charm. The rooms were very comfortable, with nice views and plenty of space. Dinner in the restaurant is pricey, but well worth the expense - they source most of the produce locally, including from the farm just next to the main building.

Review 4:The external view of the hotel - think beyond it!

Review 5:Great Spa: really helpful staff; amazing view of the lake; comfortable room; lots of English speaking channels; fast wifi!! Topped off by the perfect location to see the Northern lights. Supermarket and places to buy snacks nearby. This ugly building does not do this hotel/guest house justice!

Review 6:Loved our room. It was apparently in the new refurbished wing. Very comfortable though the beds were too soft for my liking. Its a working farm so expect to smell manure when leaving and entering the premises. It's not a problem for me but I do know this will be an issue for some. We decided to take a walk along the lake and over the hills which give you some great views. There are no paths but you will be rewarded to amazing vistas once you reach the top.

Review 7:Terrible smell outside the hotel, though that's not really a big issue. But the hotel clerk that checked us in was very curt and a little on the stuffy side. I know Icelandic people do no come across as super friendly, but this guy was borderline rude. We requested a double bed at the time of reservation and we got two twin beds. We were too tired to go point this out.

Review 8:Nice, welcoming lobby. Clean room. Breakfast was good as well.

Review 9:Some issues with the room (only prepared for one person; fixed immediately; room was not made after the first date).

Review 10:Nice location next to the water. Good restaurant and great breakfast. Modern rooms.

Review 11:Cost for supper at restaurant seemed overpriced.

Review 12:Nice room in modern wing of hotel. Clean room was nice size as also was bathroom. Hot water had very slight sulfur smell, not a problem. Quiet location just outside the city center. Hotel is next to a cow barn which adds interesting fragrance when outside. Breakfast buffet was very nice, with hot & cold items. Would consider staying here again if cost was minimally more than other nearby locations, but would have supper elsewhere.

Review 13:Close to all action in the city ,the property is by the lake and yet close to city centre. The breakfast was good. You have a options of eating at n1 or subway which are all walking distance, bonus supermarket is also close by.

Review 14:We loved this hotel and wished we had booked it for two nights instead of one. There were things we would have done around the lake if we had more time. The room was great (though our view was of the parking lot instead of the Lake - if you go, definitely ask for a Lake view room!!!) Food was over the top excellent in the restaurant and the cute lobby was very inviting for a bevie after driving quite a long time that day...we'd go back!!

Review 15:most of it very pleasant except the heater was making some whistling noises at night

Review 16:neat hotel, newly renovated and kept in old style, friendly and helpful staff, nice facilities and comfortable clean rooms.

Review 17:The staff are not especially welcoming. After a day on the road, getting a matter of fact treatment at a above average priced hotel is kind of annoying. Also, we stayed on my wife's birthday. A fact I made the hotel aware of in advance. Not a single word was mentioned. I wasn't expecting a massive outpouring, but a card or some recognition would have been nice. Nothing. Interestingly there were no queries about our stay or dinner. It was all very mechanical.

Review 18:Hotel is quite a nice place. The rooms are clean and well furnished. It's in a nice spot on a lake.

Review 19:Our room with bath was tiny. One can't move in bathroom without touching toilet bowl. Breakfast was not included. Price was too high for value received.

Review 20:Waterfall was amazing.

Review 21:Privacy and own bathroom for price one usually gets shared average facilities in Iceland. Breakfast was really fresh and varied - no processed bread, meat and cheese slices for a change :)

Review 22:Guesthouse had a cozy feeling. Outstanding restaurant. Great place to see the Northern Lights because there wasn't much "city" light outside.

Review 23:As all hotels in Iceland, the bathroom is not up to the expected quality of a hotel that pricey.

Review 24:The site is wonderful, just ta the river of the lake. The room had a terrific view of it, and it was very spacious.

Review 25:There was horse excrement smell before getting in the hotel, as there are horse right next to the guesthouse and seriously it's super strong

Review 26:Restaurant was great. They have seriously good food. Can't complain

Review 27:Friendly and efficient staff. Clean, comfortable and well-appointed room. Easy walking distance to town. Beautiful location. Nice restaurant with wonderful breakfast buffet (included).

Review 28:Everything not included was a bit expensive

Review 29:Lovely old hotel. Great location. Our room had a beautiful view of the fjord. Room was big en newly built on. All new finishes in the room. Big selection at breakfast and it was included in room rate

Review 30:Not much wrong.

Review 31:This was a very pleasant surprise, the hotel is well run by an efficient staff, the room had all the amenities and the restaurant was superb.

Review 32:Not obvious from road that this was the right hotel - the English signage was confusing. I was dubious on arrival but won over once inside the front door.

Review 33:looks mediocre from the outside (we drove past twice thinking this couldn't be it); very nice on the inside, pretty view and excellent service

Review 34:Don't get a room immediately above the restaurant: we were wakened by chairs scraping on thr floor below at 7 am. Nothing else.

Review 35:Charming, comfortable with a nice lakeside setting.

Review 36:We had to move to a room closer to the lobby to get the wifi to work.

Review 37:The staff was very friendly and very helpful no matter what our needs. We stayed in the newer part of the "guest house". It was clean clean clean. The bedding very upscale and comfortable. Beautiful views from the room and the breakfast was very good. Fresh baked goods and a wide variety. Loved this place.

Review 38:we try not to mention

Review 39:some un-pleasant incidents happened during our stay which should be written in the negative space, but Mr owner /manager try to sorted out for us the following morning, because for his sincere efforts, here we write what we liked.

Review 40:No available laundry or laundry service as mentioned in the description.

Review 41:Our room in the new wing had a beautiful view of the lake and the bed and shower were nicer than most. Excellent breakfast.

Review 42:Construction on the building / outside our window. WiFi was intermittent.

Review 43:Great recommendation for dinner across the street. Room was small, but very comfortable. Great shower.

Review 44:The staff was very rude to my wife when she asked for an extra bed for my daughter. He took more than 90 minutes to get the same. He was arguing about us not informing earlier for the bed… Next day the owners explained that Iceland is having a lot of staff issues and they have to compromise with all kind of staff.. Eventually they didn't charge us for the extra bed… I would stay again at the place in-spite of this minor bad experience..

Review 45:Nice Hotel… Location was good.. Basic Breakfast, nothing fancy.. The owners were very nice and helped us with locations for our onward journey. They building a nice spa which I saw, looked very nice..

Review 46:It appears that they opened the new wing of the guesthouse way tooearly. The spa was not complete. The wifi router was directly outsidemy room and I could not stay connected unless I had my door open. Thestaff was less than willing to help with anything related to the hotelor suggestions about things to see in town. And they tried to charge mewhen I checked out even though I had my receipt. I would never stayhere again.

Review 47:The facilities appear to be new and very clean. The breakfast wasamazing.

Review 48:nothing to add here

Review 49:- very friendly, professional and helpful staff - nice lakeview room - modern furniture in the room - excellent cuisine - very good breakfast buffet

Review 50:The hotel proprietor was not the most civil or friendly person one would hope to meet.

Review 51:Great location. The hotel is quite elegant inside and out. The food in the dining room was good. Breakfast was the usual fare for Iceland.

Review 52:We thought it was going to be a guest house type accommodation but it was a modern rustic hotel and very lovely and charming. It is still a farmhouse just with upgraded and updated amenities.

Review 53:Not much in the town to see. Pretty expensive compared to other places but if you can afford it, it's a beautiful hotel.

Review 54:The hotel was beautiful and the staff was great. It was nice to have some luxury after staying in guesthouses the previous nights.

Review 55:The staff was extremely standoffish. No help or information about anything either in the guesthouse or about the area was offered

Review 56:View of the lake was wonderful

Review 57:New rooms, no character, bit like an ibis hotel would have preferred the old rooms. Facilities were very good though!

Review 58:Great location, great breakfast, very good curtains to block out daylight so we all slept very well here.

Review 59:As it is new I think it may be short a bit of room furniture. The bathroom shower has no place for soap or shampoo etc. Unless you want to hold it you have to put it by the sink until you need it.

Review 60:Great restaurant. They have built a new reception area and a new wing of rooms. The rooms are finished with 1st class fixtures. All the new rooms have a view of the lake. A tip to travelers ask for rooms in the 300 and 400 room number range. The 100 are the basement and that is where the restaurant WC is located. 200 rooms are on the main floor. I watched a customer that didn't want the basement get charged $50 to change from his assigned to a new room and he hadn't checked in yet. Not a happy man.

Review 61:unfriendly staff with an attitude, issues with rate associated with booking via booking.com

Review 62:nice mix of historical and new buildings, very good facilities, spacious room, good breakfast

Review 63:No hair-dryer in bedrooms (a minor quibble)

Review 64:Easy access from R1 Lakeside location, quiet, although easy access to town. Excellent dinner and breakfast.

Review 65:Breakfast: the staff had more attention for refilling their own plates than the buffet / water... No fruit. Stomach ache after eating the rollmops / hering (not fresch enough?)

Review 66:We enjoyed our stay. Great dinner in the hotel's restaurant. Don't forget to make a reservation!

Review 67:What is not to like? Fantastic place!

Review 68:Location on a working dairy farm but easy walk to bus station Beautiful rooms on the Lock Ness Monster lake Great breakfast---tea/coffee in rooms Antiques/memorabilia everywhere Accommodating staff Family owned and operated Great restaurant too!

Review 69:Should have been better soundproofing between rooms in a so newly built part of the guesthouse. A little expensive for what you get.

Review 70:Wonderful location, new and modern rooms. Comfortable beds. Great breakfast in the charming old part of the building.

Review 71:I do not feel welcome in The restaurant. The straff did not pay attention.

Review 72:Easy to find when arriving. Lovly located by a lake. Nice room with view. Old and new building is put together great.

Review 73:The new extension is beautiful and new but doesn't go with the old historic building.

Review 74:The restaurant was excellent. I love the old building. Rooms are beautiful. Staff were great.

Review 75:Bad smell from barn next door.

Review 76:Clean, comfortable room. Great breakfast buffet. Good dinner in restaurant.

Review 77:AMEX card was not accepted for payment.

Review 78:It's comfy like ur own house.

Review 79:Nothing

Review 91:The floorboards were very creaky and the breakfast could have been better.

Review 92:The room was lovely.

Review 93:Great dinner menu. Breakfast was better than most we experienced in Iceland.

Review 94:Lovely location on a lake with a veranda by the bar. Very relaxing. Loved that they still preserved some of the farm atmosphere on the property.

Review 95:Excellent restaurant. Lovely views of lake from top floor of new block (which is much better than it looks form the outside!)

Review 96:expensive, as in most of Iceland in July, but of more value than other hotels we stayed at.
