Reviews for Hostel Kotva
Review 1:As we payed a low price, we did not expect much... but Hostel Kotva even undershot our already low expectations. Upon arrival we were asked to pay more than confirmed in the booking confirmation. As staff wasn't able to speak proper English we are still not sure why that was. After all we were too tired after a 9 hour train ride to fight over 3 Euros per person... The rooms itself were not only dirty due to low maintenance - we suppose they have not even been cleaned at all: hairs and dirt on the floor everywhere, spots on the duvet, hairs all over the bed, stain on the wall,... The bathroom was fairly clean but was missing any kind of racks to put your stuff and the water changed its temperature every 30 seconds. And to round it all off, there was no toiletpaper - never!
Review 2:We had a great time in Prague whenever we spend time outside the Hostel
Review 3:The water in shower is rather cold, it was not possible to regulate it. The room was not comfortable. The toilet was dirty.
Review 4:Nice location, directly on the Vltava bank, good area of Prague.
Review 5:No one will entertain you if you come earlier than 3pm. The staffs are only in counter from 3-9pm, so you are left alone if you arrived early.
Review 6:Quiet place.
Review 7:Rooms are dirty and showers are small. We have checked two rooms, and in both we found dirty stuff, like chairs , fridge, floor... I am not sure that our linnen was changed before.
Review 8:Friendly staff, location not to bad, good internet access.
Review 9:the sheets and beds were extremely dirty, I think you have never washed them!!!! The toilets are without toilet paper and really dirty!!!!
Review 10:the nice and friendly receptionist. good price.
Review 11:Location was awful apartment smelled and I only saw a member of staff once
Review 12:Horrific I would not recommend this place at all. We actually changed hotels 4 nights into our 8 night stay
Review 13:We couldn't find it, not well visible from the street. Beddings were not changed for our arrival. It was dirty and smelly with sweat and cigarettes. When requested for change, it was made carelessly and resentment. Full of spider webs on the walls and corners. At the end we left without staying there for a night we paid. I wouldn't recommend it,even for this money. Pity :-(
Review 14:Charging for the hotel was in US$ then it switched to Euros, then to Ksc. Finally I had no idea what my card was charged. This need clarification by the office when booking.
Review 15:Location at real Czech place, not tourist surrounding.
Review 16:When we stay there the weather was very warm, and staying in the room makes one feel warmer, because of the structure of the building. Also there is a factory just outside our window, so in the morning it was very noisy.
Review 17:Very cheap. Kitchen and bathroom are well equiped.
Review 18:The cleaning lady did not speak English and was rude. The room was small compared to the price. Reception was not 24-hours on the hostel . For foreigners this can lead to high phone bills when calling the reception. No towels in our room. We had to ask the cleaning lady for towels. Showerhead was not detachable. The bathroom was often left dirty by the other customers. Toiletpaper is not in the toilet but outside, so you have to take it from a big roll before you enter the toilet. This hostel is good for backpackers (like friends) for a couple of days, I do not recommend it for couples.
Review 19:Perfect wireless internet connection without password access and no extra charge. Payment method by creditcard a professional electronic bill. The reception spoke good English and was polite. Free and safe carparking in front of the hostel. Enough power outlets for electrical devices. The main entrance door is safely locked in the night and is only accessible with a pincode. Showerrooms and toilets are separate.
Review 20:The water in the baths was very hot and there was no way to fix this .
Review 21:The staff was very nice . The place is quiet . Metro is very close so is the tram to the centre.
Review 22:no air conditioning, the room wasn't cleaned during 10 days, it seems to me that the bedding was dirty
Review 23:the staff is friendly, the location is near the bus station and about 10 minutes on foot from subway.
Review 24:Poor sound isolation. You could hear every word and every move if there was anyone in the corridor
Review 25:The place was clean, value for manue, rather close to Praha-Holešovice railway station
Review 26:The WIFI only works in the reception. Some of the staff were not the friendliest. The price does not include the city tax; I was almost charged for the city tax twice when leaving (after having already paid when I came)...it felt more like I was being shaken down for more money than just an honest mistake but not sure. They advertise breakfast included but this isn't the case despite signs being up on the door and in the room. It just felt like the hotel is hard up for money (despite being fairly busy) and this is passed on to the customer.
Review 27:The location was relatively central. Clean.
Review 28:It was hard to get here but because we were pretty late, at night. Cleanliness wasn't the best, chairs was dirty, we could not sit on them in our room.
Review 29:For the price I paid, quality was good. Staff was friendly, easily speaking English or Russian.
Review 30:I had 2 pet spiders in my room, but they were good and didn't move all night... Showers were not very private at all.
Review 31:Got a single room when I thought I'd booked a dorm, although for the price it would have been expensive for a dorm.
Review 32:it stinks little bit around hostel, but inside it is ok clean and tidy little bit noisy during the night but it was probably caused by IIHF championship :-)
Review 33:parking in front of hostel
Review 34:It was quite noisy at night even tho there was supposed to be silence between 11pm and 7am. The cleaning lady came round at 7am.
Review 35:Security is very good.
Review 36:- bugs in the room and the hallway (ants, spiders, earthworms)!!! - dirt in the room - only two toilets and two "showers" in the ladies' room - on the weekend staff is almost unavailable - there is no one in the night (after 21) at the reception desk - location - I didn't feel safe walking there in the evening - warm water under the shower is a lottery
Review 37:- WiFi - microwave - hot water for coffe ar tea - reasonable price
Review 38:a little bit far away from the city center but the transportations was good! The hostel is an industrial zone which sometimes is no very nice.
Review 39:Strong wi-fi, very clean bathrooms , very nice people . The price was really OK
Review 40:The communal showers are dirty; far from city center and central train station; Coffee machine is not working; very thin black curtains (occupants can still be seen from outside of the window)
Review 41:Helpful staff; potable tap water
Review 44:- looks mostly like a student dorm
Review 45:- not close to city center, but city center easily accessible by public transport - fair price compared to other options in Prague if you don't have high expectations from accomodation
Review 46:For the price we paid it´s ok. But If you are looking for luxus, you wont find it here. For traverlers with little budget is ok. Only two baths and two showers for the whole Hostel for womens. We had the chance that it was not full. In the hight season, I suppose the toilets and showers it´s not enought.
Review 47:The location is out of the center, but it´s not so far, and there is good conections.
Review 48:Hardly any staff to contact in case of an enquiry. There was nobody around to ask. Only two plug points are available for mobile charging and stuff. Beds are creaky but comfortable. Also, the heating is low. It was cold at times, especially the showers. The showers are not hot and spray water only for a bit (It's not a big deal though). Toilet paper is kept outside near the sink and one must tear off pieces and take them inside the cubicle; paper is not available inside the cubicle.
Review 49:It is a great price. The location is a little out of the way but close to a subway station. The place is pretty self service. Check out is simply where you drop your keys into a box after clearing the room.
Review 50:There was no top sheet and I doubted whether the blanket gets washed. Also, I wasn't informed that the front door required a code after 9pm and I wasn't given the code - knocking on the TV room window did the trick but luckily it wasn't late!
Review 51:This is a lateral move from a dorm bed. I really liked having my own room but other facilities at most hostels are better. I found the access very easy (the access street is across from the mural painted on a fitness center) although it does take some time to get to the city center.
Review 52:English lager louts who arrived back from a session at 4am and woke everybody up. I am ashamed to be British by this sort of rif raf
Review 53:Cheapness and helpful receptionist
Review 54:We recieved room without fridge(in the site was included). They changed our room for dirty and stinking.. linen was stinking like wet dog, was impossible to sleep there. Good we went there only for one night.. next day we had to leave room untill 12. From 11.20 cleaning lady complained every 5 min that we should leave now!! If u dont have to, my advice - never go there!!
Review 55:Free parking, wi-fi
Review 56:The hostel is located in a desolate industrial area next to train tracks; I wouldn’t suggest wandering around the area at night. There is a bus stop nearby with one line servicing it infrequently; arrive late and your only options are either a taxi or a daunting 1.2km walk through some shady streets. The single room (with shared bathroom) I stayed in was pretty much terrible. It was a former staff room, now appropriately called room number “0”. The floor was covered in hair; it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for ages, while the bed was somewhat acceptable. The only positive side to the room, the old staff kitchen, had a fridge that had a welcome surprise for me, some rotten eggs. Trains pass by all night long, so tough luck if you are a light sleeper. If your only priority is budget and you are willing to compromise with comfort and cleanliness, and to some extent, safety, then roll your dice. Other than that, stay somewhere else.
Review 57:The receptionist was professional and the hostel seems secure. The shower facilities were fairly clean.
Review 58:The bed sheets were smelling really bad, like they have been re-used. It was difficult to sleep with the head on the pillows. the surroundings are not the best.. it is a little scary to walk during the night.
Review 59:The bed was good, big room, quiet place, close to metro ( 10 minutes walking) very clean toilets . For the price we paid we really think it was good.
Review 60:Location of the hostel. The room was smelling so I had to keep the window open and the kitchen was not clean enough.
Review 61:Very cheap compared to other hostels in Prague.
Review 62:quite unhelpful and sometimes unfriendly staff; poor facilities, really basic equipments&furnitures in room (just two beds and two small tables and a cubdoard without any hangers or shelves, thats all); double bed option means two single beds push together which is a really uncomfortable solution; fridge had awful smell; honestly, it looks way better in photos than real. not really recommended...
Review 63:really close to Holesovice metro station; good public transport; Billa and other smaller stores are really close; good and strong wi-fi; took approx 20 mins to get to the downtown.
Review 64:We had to pay over 10 percents more then it was at the offer (accommodation+ parking + tourist fee).
Review 65:10 minutes to the metro station and the center is just few minutes away.
Review 66:A bit hidden the first time you get there. Nobody in the sorroundings seem to know this hostel. Spiders in the room. Not well educated people living there.
Review 67:cheap and simply. good wifi. not far from underground.
Review 68:For a week stay in this hostel in our room never was cleaned, garbage never threw away. The shared bathroom was always dirty and untidy, it was not always soap or toilet paper. First time seeing that reception is open from 3 p.m. Would not advise any travelers may budget, but such sloppy hostel.
Review 69:The only plus of this hostel is its proximity to metro station (10-15 minutes).
Review 70:some men knocked on my window at night that made me think about the security. bed sheets looked not clean and old (has a smoke-burnt hole).
Review 71:price, a small kitchen includes cooktop. good wifi in room.
Review 72:coffee automate does not work, registration from 3 pm (early registration refused), only ground floor rooms.
Review 73:10 min from metro station, 5 min from tram station, 2 min from bus station, good price, English speaking personal
Review 74:The room had a smell of 3-weeks-wore-socks! I had a feeling that they have never changed bedclothes! In the room also live lots of spiders. We stayed there for 2 nights and it was more than enough! The underground is in 12 min on foot
Review 75:It was the cheapest place for 4 people
Review 76:No Service after 23:00. Telephone-Number given is always busy (was no electricity whole nite - noone cared). Don't look under the couch in the reception romm: there's a new universe with new lifeforms there i suppose... Take your own one-way flip-flops and a shower-mat - there's slime everywhere on the floor. No Towels. Toilet-Paper was too rough to, so, buddy take yer own.
Review 77:Price is allrite. W-Lan is free and allrite too. Is very good for punks or drunks. Nice personal: some of them are scared of travelling people (i found it very funny).
Review 78:Room smelt vaguely like cigarette smoke.
Review 79:Staff - went to a football match with one and he showed me around town a little too! Location: only 5 tram stops from the city so not too far
Review 80:a kind of sleeping coach instead of a mattress; it had a hardly rugged frame part right through the middle and was worn and torn. The bed sheets had been washed, but not the blanket: smelly! my room had not been vacuum cleaned, which I find very strange.
Review 81:5 min walk to all public transport connections excellent wifi very quiet during the night all common rooms were being cleaned every day very functional facilities
Review 82:Upholstered chairs were dirty. The price is good so there is a lot of construction workers accommodated. In the room was no towels.
Review 83:The room was quite comfortable. There is refrigerator and washbowl inside room. Bathroom and toilets are common.
Review 84:The reception only open a few hours a day, and the staff wasn't helpful. The floors were not cleaned, there were spiders and webs in each corner. The whole hostel smelled gross. The hostel was away from everything, at least a ten minute walk to civilization. Very sketchy and uncomfortble feeling the whole time. Even our taxi driver said we were styaing in a sketchy hostel.
Review 85:The price was dirt cheap.
Review 86:Bit noisy. There is a river port just outside the window. Can get pretty noisy with all the trucks coming there. No toilet paper in the toilet.
Review 87:- cheap - relatively close to tram lines / metro - parking You get what you paid for. Relatively clean, basic, remotely located hostel. Ok if you're looking for a place to spend a night or two and don't mind taking tram/metro to the city center. We've already been in hotel in Prage that was more expensive and worse than this hostel.
Review 88:Location was a lot further out of the city than expected. I booked for me and my Dad at €10 each per night which we stayed for 3 nights = €60. When we arrived they have a fixed price of 550 CZK per night which he worked out at €70...I know it's only €10 but I wasn't happy paying the difference.
Review 89:Size of bedrooms. WiFi
Review 90:There were very loud music outside, the rooms were not too new.
Review 91:Cheap.
Review 92:Perfect location, cheapest price in the city, affordable for students.
Review 93:Only issue with checkin time which starts after 3PM. One should have option to checkin earlier.
Review 94:Bit far from city centre but only 15 min walk to nearest metro station.
Review 95:Cheapest accomodation in prague with basic facility.
Review 96:Location is very far away from city
Review 97:Good
Review 98:Position.
Review 99:Wifi. Rooms.

Review 102:Smelled horrible, dark room.
Review 103:noise from bridge with train
Review 104:good price, nice place near river
Review 105:WiFi didn't always work:(
Review 106:The rooms were clean and neat! Cheap and not too far from the Old Town - 20 min tram ride!
Review 107:Beds were clean but floors and bathroom (not shared) were filthy. Too far from centre of Prague although not too far from a tram stop.
Review 108:Really cheap and honest for the price you pay (20 euros for a double room booked only a few days before, during summer)
Review 109:Bed was disgusting! The blanket smelled awful and there was a public hair from the last person who slept in the bed! Disgusting!
Review 110:Facilities, comfort.
Review 111:Very good price.
Review 112:Not far from metro station and city center. PERFECT accomodation, as for current price. Clean. Small kitchen. Close to supermarket.
Review 113:The bathroom was not very clean, poor ventilation, incredible hot room
Review 114:Simple but fair for the price
Review 115:Dirty sheets and because of no staff available a lot of noise of other guests.
Review 116:too cold in the bathroom, the water in the showers was not warn enough and becaose there are no shower doors it is very windy so it is too cold!!
Review 117:Not that clean and a bit far from the centre.
