Reviews for B&B Villa San Marco

Review 1:Location & grounds were beautiful. Looked right at ruins from the location. Owners were very welcoming and friendly. Wife even drove us to the cathedral 30 minutes away because it would have been difficult to find on our own.

Review 2:The road to get to the B&B is a little hard to drive through because of the rocks. But that is something the B&B can't help with. It's not their fault.

Review 3:Me and my boyfriend went to Sicily for a week. We rented a car to drive around. Our first stop was in Agrigento. At first the B&B was a little hard to reach because you have to drive through a rocky road. But when you arrive, you are amazed! It is a beautiful location! Very cosy and romantic. A lot of trees, flowers and plants. Just beautiful! And the staff is also very friendly. The breakfast is delicious homemade.

Review 4:Property is only accessible by two dirt roads, inaccessible on foot. Peacocks roaming the property defecate everywhere! Windows and roof leaked during a heavy storm.

Review 5:Beautiful farmhouse surrounded by orchards and wonderful views of the Valley of the Temples. Great email contact with excellent instructions on how to find the property. Nice simple homemade breakfast on the terrace with their 2 lovely dogs. Book it, don't hesitate!

Review 6:Very friendly and helpful staff who were passionate about their beautiful guest house and home. It was a privilege to stay there. Amazing views of the temples at night and wonderfully off the beaten track. Delicious breakfast provided wtih fresh juices, breads, pastries, yoghurt and more. Highly recommended.

Review 7:The road to the house. I suppose it is not possible to change it, let's see it positive, it makes everything more "adventurous" and romantic .

Review 8:It is a lovely relaxing place with best views to the valley of the temples. You feel like at home. The owners let you feel like a wonderful spoiled guest :-).

Review 9:Internet a bit weak at gatehouse but they are fixing it

Review 10:Such kind, welcoming hosts; customized a booklet about the Valley of Temples with our names, answered every question, helped us prepare our dinner after a long day of travel, opened their wonderful farmhouse home as if we were long time friends. It is an old Sicilian farm (in the family about 209 years) not fancy but so comfortable. Breakfast is served with spectacular views if the temples- a delicious and filling breakfast. Their two hilarious and gentle dogs around and are entertaining. Peacocks and their chicks roam too. A bit hard to find at first (hard right next to the petrol station, looks almost like a footpath) but easy after that and worth it!! We'd go back in a heartbeat Nice pool on a hot day

Review 11:Our room was a misquitoe magnet. They provide you with mosquitoe poison stuff that you can plug into the electric socket. We chose not to try it. We were in a 2 room unit inside what looked like a converted shed or barn. It was a little too dark for me and easily could have used more lights. The bathroom toilet leaked on and off all night and we wound up closing the door to decrease the dribble noise.

Review 12:Great location even with the long dirt road. They provided emails with driving directions which helped. Upon arrival we were given maps of the area with the temples. The property long drive on the dirt road is just off a paved road near a gas station - you can easily miss the turn if you blink. Lovely relaxing seating areas with views of 3 temples from breakfast area. Fabulous house and almond plantation. Although not a working farm, working olive plantations were nearby and simply driving in and out ( on the dirt road) offered views of the olive harvest. There are peacocks and other animals roaming around which I found made the place more interesting. We were greated with one of the peacocks looking in our bedroom window upon awakening which did not bother us. There was a kettle and supply of teas in the room. The property gives plenty of warning for those not interested in this environment. Continental style breakfast was one of the best we had featuring Homemade breads, croissants cakes, cookies, homemade jams and fresh squeezed pear juice! Fab! The owners were very friendly and knew enough English to make the breakfast conversation quite pleasant.

Review 13:Beautiful setting, wonderful gardens, fantastic breakfast(homemade yogurt, crescents, pastries and jams)and a friendly, knowledgable staff. We ate breakfast overlooking Ancient Greek ruins.

Review 14:nothing

Review 15:the location overlooking the valley of temples was perfect. the facilities were unique, funky and totally perfect. the host vincenzo was a fountain of information. the breakfast served on the patio was delicious.

Review 16:Although not a sufficient reason to stay elsewhere, the property is not that easy to find and access from the main road is by an obscure, long and very narrow dirt track.

Review 17:The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The property was on beautiful grounds, had great unobstructed views of the Temples and yet was only a 5 minute drive from the centre of Agrigento.

Review 18:It was difficult to find, even with directions from Vincenzo and a phone call to the villa! Wifi didn't work in our room.

Review 19:This is an amazing, quirky, family-run villa with beautiful grounds, lots of animals (including dogs and peacocks), a cavernous old house filled with family mementos and heirlooms, and a spectacular view of the nearby Valley of the Temples. Vincenzo & his daughter were very helpful, assisting with tips for dinner and the best times and strategies for visiting the temples. We felt like we were staying in their home, but were left alone to relax by the pool in the afternoon, or grab a snack or beverage from the fridge using an honor system. The setting is rural and relaxing, yet it is right near town, down a dirt road. Breakfast was served outside on the terrace with spectacular views and included homemade jams, breads & freshly made fruit juice. Exploring the house itself was an adventure, with its many rooms & spaces, collections of tiny cars, law books and cast of family characters. Maybe not for everyone, but pure joy to those who appreciate this kind of Italian family life and setting, including a grandmother working on her embroidery.

Review 20:Amazing location amongst olive groves overlooking the temples. Charming hosting by Vincenzo and Margarita and beautiful home baked breakfast on terrace looking at all three temples. Highly recommend.

Review 21:I think at some stage they will have to pen the peacocks. Too many roaming

Review 22:Very close to Temples. Rustic family home. Very different experience to hotel which can be clinical. Very warm welcome from family. Great breakfast with most food home made.

Review 23:The access road to the B&B is a narrow rutted dirt track. Best attempted during daylight! The entrance is via a garage on the main road.

Review 24:A very friendly rustic B&B in a wonderful location opposite the Valley of the Temples, at night the view is magic. The family and staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!

Review 25:The dirt road could be in better shape for travellers. As long as there is no rain there is no problem getting to Vincenzo's B&B.

Review 26:Very friendly and helpful owners! Even helped me to find a dentist and organized an appointment. The view is amazing: looking at the temples during breakfast or having a glas of wine in the evening! The whole area is like paradise.

Review 27:We had difficulty with driving directions to get to the hotel. The road into the hotel is one way and not well sign-posted.

Review 28:The staff were so friendly and the view over the Valley was truly awesome. We loved the peacocks wandering around and the 2 dogs made it feel like home.

Review 29:Loved the location and the setting. This was truely one of our most enjoyable stays in Italy. It's was so so relaxing and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious and the owners very friendly.

Review 30:In the middle of nowhere. Hardly a sign to indicate you are in the right direction. Room spacy but very basic. So is breakfast. Beds extremely uncomfortanle.

Review 31:Nice and different. The staff is really trying hard to please. Quiet spacy and clean

Review 32:We should have stayed longer!

Review 33:This B&B is a wonderful Sicilian farm overlooking the Valley of Temples of Agrigento. Yes, the temples are ao close that you can enjoy them from the breakfast tables. The farm is a magical place of tranquility where one can rest the soul. Wonderful combination of olive trees, pistachio trees, ponds, water fountains, pool, landscaping, wonderful places to sit and rest. The best part is the fsr has animals! There are two wonderful dogs Leone and Woody, who are very friendly to guests. There are also peacocks with baby peacocks, parrots and family of ducks. So, if you are not comfortable with animals then this B&B is not for you. If you are an animal lover this is a perfect place to stay. The owner Vincenzo is a wonderful host that will receive you, show you around and provide you with local information. He is trully a great person. There are many apartments around the main farm house in which you will be houses. Do not expect 5* facility inside, this is a farm, but everything is clean and sufficient for you to enjoy your stay. The breakfast is wonderful combination of local products with a "view of the valler of temples"! Driving to the farm is along local rough road but its fine and part of the experience. You can reach the temples on foot in 15-20 min or 5 min by car. I strongly recommend this B&B!

Review 34:Nothing!

Review 35:The family run B&B, the beautiful countryside setting, closeness to Agrigento ruins, Staying at Villa San Marco B&B was a wonderful experience that I will always remember.

Review 36:Literally nothing to complain about at all.

Review 37:Everything! The availability of takeaway pizza is useful on arrival. The honesty box is a perfect way of doing things.

Review 38:Hard to find though host will email directions, so best to have electronic map support.

Review 39:Impossible to oversell - warmest possible genuine hospitality, glorious gardens, extraordinary view of temples. Best value for money ever (and I have traveled some). Schedule a day in the gardens and it will be the best day of your trip.

Review 40:DO NOT take the road next to the museum, but take the road next to the gas station. The dirt road to the parking next to the museum is impassable for most cars as it is deeply gutted. The road next to the gas station has paving stones which then become a dirt road that is passable at a slow pace.

Review 41:Try to get there early so you can see the view as the sun sets and night sets in. The dirt road takes patience but it is absolutely worth the slow drive to this wonderful place.

Review 42:If you want somewhere calm and comfortable there is nothing not to like.

Review 43:We stayed at this hotel having travelled the length of Italy by train over the preceding 24 hours. We would therefore looking for somewhere calm and comfortable to allow us to relax before visiting the Valley of the Temples. Villa San Marco was truly everything I hoped it would be - comfortable, brilliantly located, friendly - literally a home from home in Agrigento complete with two gorgeous dogs. I should also put in a word for Vincenzo, his wife and family, who apart from being incredibly hospitable throughout went out of their way to help my friend and I travel to and from the Temples, and to Agrigento station.

Review 44:it was a best experience in our all trip.this place was amazing specifically the view from garden to the temple of valley.the stuff were very helpful and kind.

Review 45:Nothing at all

Review 46:What a fantastic place. Well done to all including Tiziana Margherita Vincenzo for such a welcoming and relaxing stay. We will recommend your place to anyone coming to Agrigento. Thank you

Review 47:There were so many animals , dogs, birds that our shoes was really dirty with feathers. And the swimming pool was not really clean because of that. At the end the bed was really no comfortable.

Review 48:The place was amazing with a real archeological view around the temple. The personnel is really great with even the possibility to speak in frech. The breakfast was amazing with a prickly pear's juice.

Review 49:The family were definitely the best thing about this b&b. We received the warmest welcome we have ever encountered anywhere in the world. Wonderful people, beautiful property, lovely doggies and amazing views!

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Wonderful location overlooking the Valley of the Temples. Out of town so need a car but lovely unobtrusive family, relaxing, pool, wifi, beautiful serene and scenic. Should have booked for longer

Review 52:It's some distance from the main road and might be difficult to get to without a car

Review 53:The views are breathtaking. The gardens are beautiful and the family who own the villa are very friendly and helpful

Review 54:NO bad experience; the bed was a little soft and the shower small, but DO NOT be put off by these minor details.

Review 55:This is a wonderful family-run B&B, with beautiful grounds, and full of character, and with an exceptionally convenient yet peaceful location. The family and other staff were friendly and charming and could not have been more helpful. We hope to return and stay longer.

Review 56:It's a bit hard to find at first. However the B&B send you directions. The road is more of a track than a proper road so don't be put off.

Review 57:A very authentic B&B with some history as it's been in the family for several generations. Although it is close to Agrigento you feel as if you are in the country. Pheasants wandering around. Two lovely dogs and some chickens. The family were warm and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and eaten on a terrace looking out over the Temple of Concordia.

Review 58:If you like walking this is a great location. We found a fantastic restaurant with a bar next door up the road. We were able to walk to the museum and to the temples. The family couldn't do enough for us. We enjoyed interacting with them and loved the pool and the garden and the pets. The breakfasts were outstanding.

Review 59:Ideally located in the middle of the 'Valley of the Temples' this B&B offers stunning views over the Doric temples. Extremely friendly & helpful hosts, the domain is exquisitely charming inside & outside with peacocks, dogs, chickens, turtles etc.

Review 60:The location was amazing great view over the Valley of the Temples. We loved the country like ambiance. The staff were helpful and very welcoming. Highly recommend staying there. Wish we stayed a little longer.

Review 61:nothing bad, just warning for those who travel without car: you will have to walk about 5-10 minutes from main road. But the place is worth it!

Review 62:Easy to get by car (just check the map first). Great and very secure place near the most attractive place in Agrigento. The view on Temples is not from room, but from nice patio with waterpool. In this patio (garden) you can have beatiful breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the territory walk peacock and ducks. On the nearest plain live a lot of hares :)). Room was clean and with fridge. Gates to Villa are huge (like in castle) - you feel very safe there. Special thanks to Margharita and her family - hosts are just great :)

Review 63:This B and B was spectacular. Incredibly nice people, gorgeous site, very comfortable room, extremely close to the archeological museum and ruins. This was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Do be prepared for a long dirt road leading in to the B and B-- we were taken aback when we did it the first time.

Review 64:Difficult to access even with email instructions. Bad road. Noisy birds - peacocks. Lectured by owner that we should have read his email on getting there at arrival. Not a nice greeting. I hope they enjoyed our tea and coffee.

Review 65:View

Review 66:This is a very special place to stay. There's a bumpy road for a short while to find it, but the experience is well worth it. We loved the views, the animals and the atmosphere. Vincenzo, his family and staff made us very welcome and comfortable in an enormous family room with kitchenette. The experience was wonderful and we hope to return one day for longer.

Review 67:There was absolutely nothing not to like.

Review 68:The family who run this wonderful place are a delight, truly gracious hosts. There could not be a more stunning setting from which to see the Greek temple just through the olive orchards. The highlight of my Sicily trip.

Review 69:Some noise from the peacocks and dogs but this was a farm

Review 70:Peaceful and relaxing, great to come back to after sightseeing, you can also get a pizza take away. GPS found the location too

Review 71:The only thing we did not like was the bed - the mattress seemed old and tired and we could feel the springs. Although the drive into the isolated property was quite a surprise - it was a long bumpy, unpaved one-lane road - it was totally worth it to arrive in such a lovely and unique setting.

Review 72:The overall property is utterly charming: cottage-like structures, set among beautiful flowering plants with a view of some of the Greek ruins. The hosts were so warm, friendly, and hospitable, offering a very nice breakfast with tables set outside in the beautiful scenery.

Review 73:Breakfast was limited. Our tiny shower cubicle was a challenge.

Review 74:Lovely views of the Valley of the Temples.Honesty bar for that chilled glass of wine whilst you gaze at them over the pool.Peacocks strolling and dogs lolling. Comfortable bed. All makes for a relaxing break in this some what eclectic b+b with Fawlty Towers undertones. If you're laid back and flexible you'll certainly love it!

Review 75:No bad experiences here, only a critique....the place is so real and lovely, but they put fake..plastic grass on the patios of each room and it seemed out of place!!!

Review 76:The view over the Greek temples from the hotel is spectacular....the location is perfect. Very nice people, plants, animals, including peacocks that come into the room if the door is left open....fun place!

Review 77:Poor signage to get to the location.

Review 78:Friendly, thoughtful hospitality and lovely setting. Great views of temples from terrace. Appreciated the honesty bar and assistance with ordering a take-away dinner.

Review 79:Mozzies in the room....get a zapper from the owner

Review 80:The position and garden are awesome.....temples across the valley, peacocks strutting and a very large dog that likes pizza

Review 81:Finding the place was difficult as the GPS on the rented car was out-of-date!

Review 82:The view of the Greek temples from the terrace was magic! One couldn't imagine a prettier place to sit for breakfast or in the evenings, the dancing peacocks adding to our pleasure!

Review 83:This friendly family home has fantastic views of the temples. My wifebecame ill - something she ate in the town. We were put up at no noticein another room while she slept - and I ate with the family.

Review 84:The friendly atmosphere and the fact that they put up a notice board with the names and nationalities of all of the guests. Wonderful patios and common living room.

Review 85:The approach lane was a little difficult to identify (turn off at the petrol station!), gets progressively narrower and finally rutted. When you don't know how far you're going, it's a bit nerve-wracking but I must say that the return journey to the road only seemed half as long. My heart sank when I saw they had Peacocks since their wailing begins at dawn. HOWEVER I slept through till 08.30, which is miraculously late for me and a testament to the comfort of the bed!

Review 86:A warmly welcoming family business. Lovely shady gardens, with lots of niches if you want seclusion and more open spaces if you want to be sociable. And of course, view of temples. Homely, comfortably furnished guest lounges in the house itself. No food available but self-catering facilities in chalet. The very helpful daughter ordered in pizzas for us, which appeared within 30 minutes. Well-stocked inexpensive honesty bar. Lots of extras in the rooms plus tea making facilities.

Review 87:I only spent one night

Review 88:The location and view from this beautiful 17 century villa is wonderful. The buildings are well preserved and include modern amenities. There are several buildings on the property surrounding the charming main villa that looks like it's from the Tuscan Renaissance. Inside there is a cozy common room shared by all the guests with quality beer and wine available 24 hours. The property also includes a pool with an awe inspiring view of the Temples that are lighted at night. What makes it more unique is the owners have beautiful blue peacocks and a big, lovable, and friendly mastiff I believe named "Boss".

Review 89:You have to get in a car and drive to get meals. Breakfast was two types of rolls and two juices. Not very filling.

Review 90:We liked the coterie of animals and the views of the Temples. Staff was very hospitable.

Review 91:Not really, would have liked the shower to work better , but it did not detract from our stay at all

Review 92:The "different "factor , not a farm but lots of lovely birds, and animal life, the suburb views of all three temples from the whole property, night and day as all lit and visible Friendliness of owners Able to walk down to the Valley of Temples in 15 min(take the road through the olive trees in front of property)

Review 93:Terrible long access road with deep ruts even our 4x4 had problems Our friends showers were cold in the morning Breakfast was sufficient but only hot croissants and rolls. We thought they were kind to their many animals until we saw a rottweiler in a cage with other rubbish which as animal lovers really upset us

Review 94:Friendly people very helpful great views of the temples

Review 95:The weather was a bit chilly, but the rooms were lovely and warm.

Review 96:Its location was exceptional, with stunning views of the temples. The hosts were exceptionally welcoming and friendly (including the two dogs!), and we particularly our discussions with the owner and other guests. We definitely plan to return, and have already recommended Villa San Marco to our friends.

Review 97:The drive into the Villa was a worry with a large rental van as the road was narrow. We made it through without incident though.

Review 98:Staff was welcoming. The common area where we could relax with a wine or cup of tea was cosy. The surroundings were beautiful, especially the view of the temples.

Review 99:This is a wonderful little family run place set on a beautiful property with a spectacular view of the Valley of the Temples. The hosts are warm and welcoming, and the setting is very authentic. My boys' favorite part of this place is Leon, a beautiful cane corso with the sweetest temperament. This is our second time staying here and it definitely won't be out last!

Review 100:The bed was a bit hard in my opinion.

Review 101:The view from the terrace while having breakfast was quite memorable and the overall service level from the owners of the B&B was great.

Review 102:Not a significant complaint, but breakfast was a bit simple. If you are expecting a hot cooked breakfast in the tradition of a British B&B, then you will be disappointed. However, the coffee was good and they had freshly squeezed orange juice.

Review 103:Beautiful grounds with lovely views of the temples. We were given a lovely room on the top floor of the gatehouse with our own terrace. This B&B had a large number of areas for guests. Although not located in the town, this is not a problem as they have wine and water on hand for guests to purchase, and they will even order a pizza for you.

Review 104:We couldn't find anything bad about this place

Review 105:The people were delightful, generous people. The house was lovely and beautifully clean, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom facilities excellent

Review 106:As others have written, it is a little hard to find the first time. Idrove right by the entrance twice. The second time I stopped at the gasstation the B&B gives as a landmark and the nice man pointed me inthe right direction and I still missed it. When I had looped aroundagain (up through the outskirts of Agrigento and back down), I stoppedagain. The nice man had me get out of the car and walk to the side ofhis parking lot and pointed down. The road you want actually touches theleft side of the gas station! The confirmation said "paved"road, but I would call it more stone cobbles, which is why I disregardedit and headed for what I think of as a paved road which was too far.

Review 107:The family that runs the Villa San Marco provides warm hospitality asdo the two dogs and the peacocks. The property is beautiful, tuckedaway in farmland with magnificent views of the temples. My room wasimmaculately clean and the breakfast was homemade and ample. The wholefamily was lovely.

Review 108:Overall the rooms were a bit rundown, the breakfast pretty basic, wifi didn't work in the rooms. For the price I think you can expect, and do get, better around Sicily.

Review 109:Vincenzo (and his wife) were terrific, very friendly and helpful. The location is lovely and the potential of the place is really fantastic.

Review 110:There was no wifi in my room, only near reception. The room needed some renovation (bathroom)

Review 111:location with free access to orchard and valley of the tamples. Tranquil atmosphere. Location cover for all the minuses

Review 112:The road was a bit difficult to find. It is next to the museum parking lot.

Review 113:Friendly, hospitable owners who like to share their privileged and charming set-up together with dogs, peacocks, and parakeets. The evening view of the lit monuments is magnificent.

Review 114:Be carful as this is on an unpaved road(as you would expect).

Review 115:The garden was lovely even though it was late October. We was asked if we wanted a coffee on arrival, and we had this over looking the temples. The view at night is well worth it as the temples are Lite up at night.

Review 116:The road to the house is not paved, in bad weather is that road very muddy. The centre of the town is not easy to reach by car.

Review 117:Very nice to see all that animals walking round the house; very nice view on the temple of Concordia from the garden. the whole setting of the houses and the garden is very lovely.

Review 118:it is very difficult to find the facility, especially if you arrive at night. also, the place is inside of a huge garden, as stated, this has some side effects like small mice and geckos around.

Review 119:nice breakfast, cute birds and dogs in garden, very close to temples

Review 120:Beautiful view of the temples - quirky, friendly place with peacocks, song birds, parrots, dogs and ducks. Lovely al fresco breakfast. Accommodations are basic but clean.

Review 121:The location - even if a bit hard to find - is unbelievable. The.garden full of flowers , palm trees, swimming pool with view of the Concordia temple. And last but not least the 2 dogs , Leone and Woody. Excellent breakfast , friendly and helpful owners

Review 122:With such a nice view , they could have a better choise of wine. Not for 5 €. Breakfest could be better

Review 123:Very quaiet location, exelent view, very helpfool owners.

Review 124:The B & B San Marco in Agrigento is an outstanding lodging in Agrigento near the Valley of the Temples that I highly recommend without reservation. The inn itself with beautiful and quaint with comfortable rooms, pleasant outdoor eating areas, interesting artifacts on display and many farm animals, including peacocks. They serve a great breakfast. They staff is helpful and friendly, and the owners go out of their way to make you feel at home. Also, for a great meal at a restaurant close to the inn, try, TRATTORIA DEI TEMPLI AGRIGENTO 00000 IT.

Review 125:Beds were lumpy, not very comfortable. Breakfast could have included fresh fruit.

Review 126:The grounds, the views of the lighted temples at night. Directions were spot on. The villa would be hard to find without.

Review 127:Difficult to find access road to the loction

Review 128:The rural setting with a great view on the temples Quiet location Nice people Small private places to relax outside

Review 129:The breakfast was not charming. I sure would like something homemade.

Review 130:Everything. The owners and the charm of the staff! The charm of the Place and all the animals. And the pool.
