Reviews for The Lodge Guesthouse

Review 1:Heat didn't work in my room. It was about 48-50 degrees. The staff refused to do anything about it. My friend had a room down the hall which was cold but not freezing. I slept with my down jacket on. Common rooms of the house were dark, cold and unwelcoming. Worst place I stayed in Ireland.

Review 2:Pretty house

Review 3:Lack of heating, very cold guests had to ask for heating to go on. As on a timer in rooms only. Very dark and poor lighting throughout made it feel quite depressing.

Review 4:Friendly helpful staff. Lovely breakfasts!

Review 5:Never did find much music in Waterville.

Review 6:Spent so much on golf, this was a nice balance to that. Location was great. We walked to town for dinner and had a great meal.

Review 7:Great location with easy walk into town. Staff friendly and helpful and very comfortable and spacious room. Great spot to start your tour of the ring of kerry!

Review 8:Everything was great. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. Staff were competent and nice and the general atmosphere was relaxed. I liked the décor, it looked well maintained with some old fashioned aspects which were quirky and interesting.

Review 9:Perhaps invest in slightly better quality ingredients for breakfast (e.g sausages, bacon pretty basic for the price)

Review 10:Excellent location, friendly staff and overall pretty good value for money.

Review 11:We were rung the night before by Bookings.com and told that despite booking two months earlier the hotel was over booked and we would have to stay elsewhere. To Bookings credit the replacement was good.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Seems everyone staying the night had just beaten us to breakfast so we had to wait a while to be served, As everything is freshly cooked it was well worth the wait.

Review 14:Our room was simple, not luxury. The breakfast was very slow and over done. It was hard to find staff when we needed something. I had to go into the kitchen so that we, and the other people waiting could check out.

Review 15:Breakfast a little slow but big crowd stayn

Review 16:Very clean close to town very friendly Very nice manner and helpfully phoned us two days before hand too make sure we were coming and that was helpful

Review 17:Unfortunately breakfast didn't start until 8.30am and everyone seemed to come down at once. A 8.00am start would be better for everyone - staff and guests

Review 18:Good location; Helpful staff. Very clean

Review 19:Bed -- no sheet between duvet and sleeper/no cover on plastic mattress protector so bed too warm. TV -- lack of channels Water -- dangerously hot/afraid to shower Noise -- boiler ? turning on & off every 49/10 seconds during the night

Review 20:Location

Review 21:The door key kept getting stuck and the door to our room was difficult to open. Towels okay but no wash cloths provided. Toiletries were only bar soap and shampoo. Wifi poor, wasn't always working. Staff short handed. Coffee was not good, seemed french pressed or maybe percolated.

Review 22:The salon was charming. Breakfast was ample.

Review 23:To niggle - the lighting level in the room was too low, and there was a dearth of power sockets in the right place.

Review 24:A very comfortable family establishment. It is in easy walking distance of the town centre, and Kenmare is full of interest.

Review 25:I'm astonished that a venue which is on a known touring route for travellers starts breakfast at 9am! Most people on the Ring of Kerry trip would be up and out well before 9am! Very disappointed.

Review 26:A small nitpick would be the size of the bed was stated as king, but really more the size of a queen (by US standards).

Review 27:The Lodge was a lovely and clean guesthouse with a very congenial and helpful staff. Great location an easy walk into the center of town. Hot breakfast made to order (allow time) with a full complement of fruit, cereals, breads as well.

Review 28:Friendly greeting on arrival - given tea and biscuits. Allocated ground floor room as requested. Room large but furniture a bit dated. Breakfast very good. Easy Parking. Short walk to Kenmare town centre.

Review 29:Very cold welcome on arrival (I was expecting more from previousreviews) Highly priced for value: the room had some minor problems(bathroom door not closing, wifi not working, few light bulbs were out)that didn't bother us as we were mainly outside but for 110 euros, again we were expecting a bit more. Pillows very soft

Review 30:Great location, walking distance from centre Spacious enough bedroomBreakfast was ok.

Review 31:The white bell on the locked outside door did not ring in reception when pressed. (We arrived to find front door locked.) After waiting for several minutes, another guest had to let us in for us to register. Might be worth telling arrivals to ring other bell if door is locked.

Review 32:Excellent customer service! Above and beyond what one could normally expect.

Review 33:Nothing we did not like

Review 34:We had a lovely stay here, room was immaculately clean and spacious and the whole place was beautifully decorated, breakfast was lovely and I would reccommend this bed and breakfast to anyone wanting to stay in kenmare as its only a five minute walk to centre.

Review 35:The only negative I could find was that some of the lovely period furnishings were quite dusty, such as the lampshades and chairs

Review 36:Easy walking distance to town. Spacious comfortable room

Review 37:Nothing, had a really nice stay there and would both return there and recommend it to others

Review 38:Walking distance to Kenmare, clean and comfortable. Nice choices @ breakfast and free wifi

Review 39:Huge room with spacious ensuite. Short walk to town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of choice for breakfast and very fresh, high quality ingredients.

Review 40:Nothing. Everything was perfect

Review 41:Everything. The staff were incredibly friendly. It had a real homely feel to the place, was close to everything, great parking. Would recommend 100%

Review 42:This is a very lovely and serene place, within easy walking distance into the center of town. The room as large and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious.

Review 43:This was not what we paid for - most definitely not 'luxury' nor the four star it bills itself. The premises is old, much of the accomodations in need of renovation, very damp and musty feeling througout. The staff were not welcoming. I was glad we only had one night stay.

Review 44:Location was okay.

Review 45:Mattress was not firm enough and we had booked a king size bed and received a double. Room smelt a bit musty/damp. Think it was the bathroom which had no window and insufficient ventilation.

Review 46:Good proximity to Kenmare. Staff were very friendly.

Review 47:That it rained... We couldn't walk to dinner.

Review 48:The rooms were so unique. Very nice bathroom also. Breakfast was delicious! It was a great experience.

Review 49:The breakfast was small but nice, however nothing was readily available. We had to ask for condiments and extra toast as there was only 2 pieces given for 3 of us and waited quite a while for things to be brought out to us, including coffee. We also waited a long time and rang bell several times before being able to check out.

Review 50:The lady running it was lovely and friendly. The location was good and house itself and rooms were nice and well kept.

Review 51:nothing at all!

Review 52:This "house" is a lot larger than it seems, with many well-appointed rooms, it almost feels like a 4 star hotel. we stayed in a room facing the main road, with a large soaking tub/shower in the bathroom, and a soft bed. 5 minute walking distance from the Kenmare city center. Very beautiful living room area in the lobby for all to sit. great breakfast!

Review 53:the directions were not clear and had they said they were on the kilgarvin cork road it would have made it easier to find

Review 54:the lodge is conveniently located, the rooms are very well presented, breakfast is very tasty as it is cooked to order in a relaxed atmosphere.

Review 55:Our entire stay at the Lodge was fantastic. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, the food was fantastic and the location couldn't have been better.

Review 56:No bad experience. just a small criticism - there did not appear to be a continual owner presence on site at the house.

Review 57:The quiet and pleasant ambiance of the location.

Review 58:Staff at breakfast were not so friendly, but not terrible either.

Review 59:Loved the space in the room, comfy bed & all facilities you'd need. Young girl who checked us in was very helpful & friendly.

Review 60:From about 7am there was a door banging constantly downstairs and our night away with the hope of a little lie in was ruined..such a pity. Would not stay here again for that reason.

Review 61:Great location, lovely guesthouse, lovely room and comfortable bed. Beautiful breakfast room with very good quality tablewear and linen. Tasty breakfast.

Review 62:Nothing to dislike - had a wonderful experience here

Review 63:Luxurious accommodations located within a five minute walk to town/delicious breakfast/friendly and helpful staff

Review 64:It is very dark outside the b & b There is no light and very dark, certainly would not walk alone home at night. Would also help if B&Bsign outside was lit up

Review 65:Loved the Bed Loved the breakfast Rooms were lovely

Review 66:Entrance door isn't sign posted. Noticed some cobwebs in the bathroom. Had to wait in reception a while before someone came to let us pay

Review 67:The staff were extremely friendly, the food was beautiful, and we had a lovely relaxing stay.

Review 68:For a solo female traveller, the room I was allocated with a door direct to outside (albeit locked) and a connecting door to the next room felt a little unsafe. Main access to the bedroom was through the shower room which was a little strange.

Review 69:Friendly, helpful and welcoming. Beautiful location in quiet area yet a very short stroll into town. Almost directly opposite the very scenic Kenmare Golf Club. Extremely comfortable bed with feather duvet and pillows.

Review 70:We found the owners friendly and kind, as we went away for the day cycling and they offered us the use of a shower on our return before we drove home.

Review 71:Not a lot too be honest apart from the full Irish. The smallest sausages I have seen and it was all overcooked and somewhat dry as if it had been left under the grill for too long? No brown sauce either and struggled to get red. Not a great selection on the TV either. Not sure if in a decent reception area? Apart from that, all was good

Review 72:Very friendly staff. Ample parking. Large ensuite rooms. Nice shower. Wifi

Review 73:only a recommendation ; the mattress could be replaced.

Review 74:The homemade breakfast was excellent; fresh fruit, scones and breads, all cereals and cooked food were presented with care and attention. friendly welcome and send off. very nice stay we will try this again.

Review 75:Lots of Cobwebs in our room & a damp patch & mould over our bed.

Review 76:Comfort & decor... The staff were lovely too & breakfast was top notch.

Review 77:Nothing to not like...

Review 78:Myself and my partner went down to Kenmare for a weekend to attend a wedding. The Lodge Guesthouse is perfectly located it's not far from a shop or chemists. It's beautifully decorated, the room we had was too. Staff were so nice and helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 79:Nothing of great significance. But perhaps breakfasts could commence a little earlier for early risers?

Review 80:I did not want to stay in Kenmare town because it can be noisy. The Lodge is conveniently situated just a short walk away. The breakfasts were superb and all the staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 81:Very intermittent wifi. Not particularly friendly staff, at least compared with other places in Ireland. Dark room, although spacious. Heat only came on intermittently.

Review 82:Short walk into Kenmare. Back off road, so quiet and pretty. Lovely bathroom, lots of space, big tub, heated. Man outside caring for grounds very nice and friendly and helpful.

Review 83:Service at breakfast a bit arbitrary. Despite photos of bar and lounge featuring in promo,a drink was not available.

Review 84:Spacious bedroom good bathroom.......lovely room!

Review 85:The majestic stairwell lined with oil paintings set our expectations for our room. We weren't disappointed. Rich, romantic colors, in a spacious room. Antique wooden furnishings, including the four poster king bed. Quiet and restful, even though the town experienced an historic windstorm event. An outstanding Full Irish Breakfast completed a memorable stay.

Review 86:The only downside was that the room was very cold. the blankets provide we're very thin, even using an extra one didn't make much of a difference.

Review 87:loved the room it was very big with a beautiful 4poster bed that was very comfortable. We had a really good choice at breakfast and really enjoyed our stay.I would definitely recommended this Guesthouse to family and friends.

Review 88:No it was fine. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 89:The food in the bar area was great. It was a little noisy as there was a wedding that evening. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is great.

Review 90:All good

Review 91:Quiet location with great quality room facilities including blackout curtains and comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent and the location was a short walk to the town centre.

Review 92:Location was great--walking distance to town, yet secluded and with ample parking. Rooms were comfortable and beautiful--excellent breakfast--Staff is amazing!

Review 93:Nothing. All good.

Review 94:Location, location, location. Within a few minutes walk to Kenmare and its shops and especially its restaurants. Good centre to take the hire car round the Rings of Kerry and Beara, Kilarney. Good parking. Large bedroom with good facilities. Nice public areas. Welcoming staff. Good breakfast. We had a great 3 night stay and enjoyed roaming the area.

Review 95:Bedroom a little musty Expel air fan in bathroom not working Mattresses well worn and need to be changed Not enough tv channels

Review 96:Staff were very helpful Location excellent Breakfast was excellent Dining room lovely Bedroom spacious

Review 97:I felt the staff were not that knowledgeable of the area or at least not comfortable giving an opinion. In Every other place in Ireland I took away some feel of the proprietors best wishes and warmth. Not here so much.

Review 98:Spacious rooms and an elegant feel.

Review 99:Had to carry our large luggage up a flight of stairs. Wifi service was poor, had to pay by cash for our room beacause the machine was down, and had to also ask for a Receipt. My husband had ask if the owner would call over to the golf course for a booking time and she refused saying he would have to use his cell phone(our cell service is a Canadian one!)Service in the dinning room was extremely slow, felt like we were an inconvenience to them. Lodge owner was not friendly or welcoming at ALL. Worst stay of our two week trip. Two other families in the dinning room while we were there and all were complaining amongst each other. Had to find staff to check out cause no one was around? I feel this place is very poorly run.

Review 100:Only a ten minute walk to town and across the street from the golf course. Clean and comfortable place, that's about it.

Review 101:Not much not to like. We do prefer a queen or king bed to a double, but managed just fine in the double.

Review 102:Noreen was delightful and very helpful telling us about the area. The Irish Breakfast was second to none. The view of the water from our breakfast table is so lovely. Nice sitting room overlooking the water, lovely flowers and tables to sit outdoors and watch the sunset. A beautiful fish eating place just down the road. Try the Monkfish it is to die for, also the Scallops.

Review 103:Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean. The hotel is located opposite a golf course that backs onto a lovely walking track beside the water, not far from the town centre

Review 104:Early breakfast times were not a standard offering, but the staff did oblige us with a half an hour earlier serving.

Review 105:My wife and I enjoyed a comfortable and pleasant stay in this brilliantly located guesthouse. The staff were friendly and very helpful, Following a long day in the saddle, cycling the Ring of Kerry, we returned with wet and dirty bikes, which the staff were happy to accommodate in the boiler house to dry off overnight. Such facilitation makes a big difference in my opinion!

Review 106:Fantastic location, top-notch accommodations, friendly staff and tremendous Irish breakfast. Was especially a big fan of the extremely clean and modernized (for Ireland) marble bathrooms. A very well managed and appointed lodging option just a stone's throw from Kenmare city centre. Highly recommend!

Review 107:The directions were a bit off - had a hard time finding it based on the address and the booking.com directions.

Review 108:Everything! Rosemarie and her staff were lovely and kind. They provided fantastic recommendations for restaurants and pubs, which were spot on; breakfast was to die for (the brown bread was delish!); the beds were soft and comfy; the bathroom was like a palace. Had we not needed to move on to our next location we could have stayed forever!

Review 109:I stay here every year when I come down for The Lost Sheep triathlon. Beautiful rooms and spotless throughout. They are so accommodating and helpful it puts some of my experiences of good 5 starhotels to shame.

Review 110:Everything was excellent from the friendly staff to the comfortable room, great breakfast and excellent location. I would highly recommend to anyone. I will definitely be staying here again.

Review 111:The staff couldn't have been more helpful in helping to organise a group of cyclists touring Ireland. A wonderful stop over with great recommendations for places to eat out.

Review 112:We loved the location, the tub, the breakfast, and the comfy beds. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. She helped us plan our day trips, for which we were very grateful!

Review 113:Interior room decor confused, oirish music at breakfast, as bookings.com take a percentage I found we paid more for our "deal" than the guesthouse were supposed to charge as a maximum.

Review 114:Polite attentive staff, great initial presentation, great location

Review 115:A bit formal, a place for everything and everything in its place. Bed linen did not really fit the bed which was a little uncomfortable.

Review 116:Location and very clean

Review 117:Relaxed atmosphere and great breakfast. Location excellent also - not in the bustle of the town - yet within a strolling distance of the town. I booked in for next year as I left after a very enjoyable stay.

Review 118:Décor dated but clean. Bedding extremely uncomfortable - no upper sheet meant sleeping with no covers on a warm night.

Review 119:Excellent location. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly. Water pressure brilliant!

Review 120:There wasn' t a plug in my basin. The internet wasn' t working including the credit card machine and we had to go to the bank to get cash to pay our bill.

Review 121:Easy access to the town and parking for the car. Good sized rooms, very comfortable and excellent breakfast.

Review 122:Inability to take credit card in payment Smell of diesel in the bedroom from the adjoining 'Plant' room. Load noise from the water pump in the adjoining plant room all night. 'Pretentious' Decor trying to make the room appear better than it was- i.e. big heavy Georgian style furniture in a large room, but no hanging wardrobe space and a very uncomfortable bed! No enquiry as to whether things were good on departure. Very peculiar entry to the bedroom through the shower room!!!( I thought this was a joke at first) The last customers socks hanging on the shower rail!

Review 123:Breakfast quality and service ( apart from the Bread Mould on the edge of the slice of toast!)

Review 124:Everything was well done from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Staff were very helpful, the Lodge is close to a large variety of eating options, couldn't ask for more. Definitely recommended.

Review 125:breakfast

Review 126:Very comfortable hotel, excellent staff, wonderful breakfast, lovely and kind hotel owners.

Review 127:Beautiful guesthouse. Very spacious rooms. Excellent breakfast choice in the morning.
