Reviews for The Colony Hotel
Review 1:We had difficulty getting our rooms. Check-in time was listed at 2:00 pm and we arrived about 1:45 pm. I had requested a late check-in from booking.com but we did not need it and the hotel had planned on my party arriving late so they refused to give us a room. We sat in the lobby for 3 hours and missed out on a trip to the Bahai Gardens.
Review 2:Location was wonderful. We could see the Bahai Gardens out our window and there were many restaurants right out the front door. The rooms were comfortable and the hotel was clean. The Belgium breakfast waffles were delicious.
Review 3:Great location in the German Colony, near lots of restaurants and the Bah'i Gardens. Very helpful staff; wonderful breakfast. Large, pleasant room, but a bit tired.
Review 4:When we arrived we were given a room facing the main road at the front. This was really noisy during the whole night. No sleep at all. Luckily we were allowed to change rooms free of charge to one facing the rear patio which was much quieter. The rooms and the hotel itself was a bit old fashioned
Review 5:The breakfast was very good. The staff was really helpful when we changed the room.
Review 6:We were lodged in a room in the 1st floor. This is below street level. It feels like a cellar. The room was very humid and stuffy. Also the bed was made up of two beds put together: very uncomfortable. Not worth the price.
Review 7:The building is very beautiful, with all these pre-1948 Palestinian-style mosaics.
Review 8:The hotel is surrounded by great restaurants and the street is at the bottom of the Baha'i Gardens. Gorgeous. The hotel itself was great. Loved the large bathtub, big enough for two. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 9:the downstairs room I was first put in smelled like cigarette smoke. No wifi down there.
Review 10:When my first room smelled, the manager upgraded me to a very nice room.Made a huge difference in my stay. Hava, at the front desk was amazingly helpful and gracious. You are lucky to have her.The breakfast was so good and fresh.Loved it all. The young man who worked in the dining room was very nice and helpful. The cook does a great job, the food was really good.I stayed 10 days. can't wait to come back. the property was clean and safe. the bath tub and hot water was was just what I needed after my days of walking around the Bahai gardens. thanks to the management and staff.
Review 11:Way too expensive for what we got. Maybe we picked a bad time but for the we spent I expect something classier.
Review 12:Very nice location with a nice view at the Baha'i garden. Decent breakfast and a nice room.
Review 13:The wifi signal was a bit week in my room. Would recommend a room on higher floors. My room was in basement,
Review 14:The location, the breakfast, the bars and restaurants in the vicinity, the polite reception. Easy access in and out of the city and proximity to Bahai Garden.
Review 15:You have to be careful when taking a shower in the free standing bath tub not to flood the whole bathroom.
Review 16:Breakfast of excellent quality. Wonderful location for tourists - even parking was good - and free - in the streets and parking lots behind the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 17:The internet is absolutely terrible. Although it is free, the strength and capability of the internet is very poor. Because of this very poor quality internet, I cannot perform personal and business functions with it. The Hotel needs to significantly improve this.
Review 18:Hotel is very comfortable with a nice, relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast is very good. Rooms are comfortable and clean.
Review 19:nothing comes to mind
Review 20:We took two nights at the hotel. There aren't many rooms so noise is not an issue. Breakfast is diverse. The rooms are small but clean and have cable TV and an empty fridge. Bed is comfortable. rooms are smoke free and with AC. Reception people are kind and helpful
Review 21:we loved the hotel, and the view from our room was fantastic staff most helpful over all we had a wonderful time in Haifa. thank you .
Review 22:Very helpful staff with lots of local connections and travel advice. A relaxed atmosphere making for a lovely stay in the best location in Haifa! You are right next to a selection of some of the best restaurants in town.

Review 45:Location excellent, right on the main street - great for strolling both day and night; Breakfast was ample

Review 47:noisy if you go to bed before 1:00am
Review 48:good location for walking to restaurants
Review 49:Bathroom too small especially with the jacuzzi
Review 50:Position Jacuzzi in the bathroom Breakfast the room
Review 51:The atmosphere, the breakfast outside!!!, the bed.
Review 52:Decor, good breakfast, excellent location, clean and comfortable, helpful staff.
Review 53:Liked everything
Review 54:Old world charm and rich decor. Great location.
Review 55:water from bathtub came up through drain
Review 56:authentically restored beautiful floors, beautiful rooms, nice breakfast, friendly staff
Review 57:Internet bit slow
Review 58:Customer service was excellent colony reception always answering your question with the biggest smile and always us full
Review 59:Rooftop parties nightly. Also, because of time difference we mis-calculated when we needed to leave. Had to leave 1 day ahead of schedule. Although we told them several days prior and they had already been paid they refused to refund our money. We were out the money for 2 rooms
Review 60:The food was amazing. It was clean and convenient.
Review 61:Breakfast was a little haphazard with plates and cutlery not always available. It would have helped to have two people clearing tables at a busy time.
Review 62:We loved the location and the small touches in the bedroom. Reception were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good. ... But see next box
Review 63:need to include ironing board and iron in the room.
Review 64:Best location in Haifa for food options and the best view of the Baha'i Gardens. Ask for room in the back to avoid street noise. Yossi at the desk is the best personality in the staff. Excellent english and humor.
Review 65:We were driving into Haifa and it was difficult to park outside the hotel, if only for a minute, to find out where to unload. However, the staff was helpful and we ultimately found the parking lot in back of the hotel
Review 66:Staff were helpful and courteous. Breakfast room has a lovely outdoor porch which is good for both eating and connecting to WiFi!
Review 67:We arrived at 6.30 a.m. Although we had no reservation for this early time, we could move into the room reserved for us. The name of the hotel is their programm.
Review 68:Price for the property excessive, since we paid same for David InterContinental a day before. Old rooms, but clean. Breakfast was just so so. Awful coffee
Review 69:Location was great. Very friendly staff. Clean
Review 70:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Realising we were Bahai's on a special visit, we were allocated room 401 with the most perfect views of the Baha'i Shrine and Gardens
Review 71:Terrible service. So-so breakfast. They claim to be boutique; not even close! Our bathroom was dirty when we checked in. I complained to the receptionist and she said that the hotel was full and that she was alone (at 6pm!), so no one who could come and clean it. She said "I am sorry" and kept doing whatever she was doing with the computer.
Review 72:Location
Review 73:The facilities are too old and looks like very dirty in particular the both room.
Review 74:I am happy with their flexibility that they accepted my cancelation of the room booking which was two days dalayed according the regulation.
Review 75:Though the hotel said it included free wi-fi, the wi-fi never actually worked...even on the hotel computer set up in the lobby.
Review 76:The room was great and easily accommodated our family of 4 (one in a crib). We really appreciated the complimentary bottle of water in our room each day, and especially loved the chocolates on our pillows. The location was wonderful and still included parking. And the breakfast was wonderful - great spread and very tasty. The staff was very friendly.
Review 77:1)The bathroom sink is an impossible bowl to use and should be replaced by a standard sink 2) The breakfast food range is too limited, but the main problem is lack of staff to clear the used plates:- no-one wants to eat at a table covered with used crockery
Review 78:A comfortable, modest hotel
Review 79:The hotel is very nice, located in the old center of the city sourounded by restorants museums ect The staff is excelent, the room is very comfortable
Review 80:Limited choices for breakfast.
Review 81:Very nice hotel. The house is really lovely and both of us like it very much. Location is good. There are many bars nearby. Convenient to the Bahai Garden.
Review 82:Like most hotels in Israel, the rooms cannot accommodate a family of four, so we needed two rooms.
Review 83:Location, rooms and rooftop view of the Baha'i gardens were excellent.
Review 84:Building as whole nicely restored but bedroom furniture, even if original, needs replacing. Reception area very cramped; no public rooms other than prayer/meeting room in basement. Breakfasts copious but uninspiring, especially cooked element.
Review 85:Good location, with car park at rear, in historic area with spectacular view of B'Hai gardens. Numerous bars and restaurants immediately adjacent, albeit of mediocre standard.
Review 86:The building is kept in most part in it's original form, as a land-mark with traditional look even inside the rooms; I was there for 3nights with my mother, a senior citizen, who had a hard time gettinginto the tub, since It was too high, the plumbing was not the best Ifyou happen to be in a room with a old style tub with separate hot &cold water facets; however we were moved into a better room with moremodern tub, the only room, they said; we were moved twice before beingsatisfied with room facilities; the beds were comfortable butdidn't look as If you were staying in a 4 star hotel; temp. Hadinside room control; floor had vintage mosaic look, nice, no carpeting;room was well lit with several lights with individual switches coveringthe whole area;
Review 87:Friendly/personable staff & management, promptly responding toour needs; room was clean, breakfast was awesome, & the best part ofmy stay; management is responsible & making sure I had a pleasantexperience; overall I would recommend Colony hotel only when specialprice offered, around usd140 - 160; the view is definitely the plus,looking at the Mt. Carmel & Bahai Gardens from my window, as aBahai, couldn't ask for a better one;
Review 88:Rooms vary a lot in comfort. My son and I were initially assigned to somewhat grim dark small room on the lower level but upon complaint got a nicer one high up. This is not a luxury hotel by any means but has nice location and a certain old world charm. Plush breakfast available in lovely dining room. Staff somewhat off-putting ("I told you that!") but this may be the Israeli style.
Review 89:The car park was difficult to find, after several laps of the mainstreet we double parked and jumped out to ask for instructions; if theywere given on the website that would be perfect!
Review 90:It was in a great position on the beautiful Ben Gurion Avenue. Eventhough the street is lively we couldn't hear any noise from thestreet in our bedroom. The bedroom and bathroom were charming and old-fashioned but comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 91:The plaster in the bathroom wasn't in perfect conditions
Review 92:Location is great, just at the foot of the hill where the Bahai temple is located, and surrounded by restaurants. Free wifi which works (that's not always a given). Room comfort, mine even had a jacuzzi.
Review 93:Very characteristic hotel in center of Haifa. Many restaurants around it and the Baha'i gardens within walking distance. Excellent place to stay for business
Review 94:Breakfast: no hot milk. Price: only fair value for money, even considering high season (Hebrew New Year holiday "ROSH-HASHANA").
Review 95:Staff:very friendly, professional, efficient, ready to assist. Rich Israely breakfast. Tripple room cosy, comfortable, clean, contains jacuzzi, nice view from room and especially from 4th floor roof to unique Bahai Gardens & Mount Carmel. Excellent location within beautifully restored Templar German Quarter, many restaurants, pubs + museums and nice restored buildings. Good accessibility both via public transportation (including new "METRONIT"(long busses moving swiftly on dedicated lanes) - and private cars, with free municipal parking lots around. Highly recommended!
Review 96:breakfast was good but not enough staff (we stayed in busy week)
Review 97:the hotel is beautiful. the staff is very helpful and nice. the rooms are clean and neat
Review 98:The hotel building is great. It is from 1905. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. The location is absolutely at the center of the city with a view on Ben Gurion Blvd. and upon the B'hai Gardens!
Review 99:It was a tiny bit noisy. I suspect it was due to the location of my room, rather than being noisy overall, though. Other than that, nothing really negative to say!!
Review 100:It really felt luxurious to me. There were chocolates on the pillows, a robe and slippers, extensive coffee making material, fridge, complementary water bottle....I'm not used to all that! The staff especially was incredibly friendly, with one of them having a lovely sense of humor!!
Review 101:First night was a bit noisy due to wedding party. Hotel guests would have been happier if they new in advance how late the noise would last.
Review 102:Very comfortable, well-maintained, clean. Excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 103:Can be noisy at night from music at neighboring restaurants. Only happened once out of a three night stay
Review 104:Comfortable bed, great shower, nice amenities in room, lots of breakfast options, great location
Review 105:Parts of the bathroom were updated, but the floor looked dingy but I think it was pretty clean.
Review 106:I loved the location - it's not up on Mt. Carmel where most of the hotels are but I liked that more. It is in the German Colony - lots of paces to walk to for dinner. There isn't tons to do in Haifa but this was perfect - I waslked to downtown to the market, took the carmelite up the mountain, walked around, did the B'hai gardens. I did not have a car and got around fine but I think no car with more than a day in Haifa would be tough unless you figure out the buses.
Review 107:Nothing
Review 108:Very friendly. Staff could not do enough for you. Very central for the Baha'i Gardens just at the top of the road. Many good restaurants on the same Road . The breakfast's were good and the bar was well stocked behind the reception and open all hours :-)
Review 109:I can't really think of anything.
Review 110:The room was charming, large and immaculate. Staff were very helpful and nice. The hotel is in a perfect location on a street full of interesting restaurants within walking distance and with a glorious view up to the Bahai Gardens.
Review 111:rooms ) were small and very dated - simliar to an old New York city hotel, but clean with fair (not good or great furniture and bedding). Some patchwork on walls and flooring but quite clean Staff were very nice and breakfast was good, and in a very nice room and setting Overall pricy for quality, but based on location to gardens and german colony ( which is a street, not a neighborhood)
Review 112:Great location Friendly enough staff and service
Review 113:There are some small repairs that need to be done in the bathroom: towel racks, wallpaper and grip bars are partially detached from the walls. Fix the details and the room is perfect.
Review 114:Very beautiful part of the city in an historic building with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was wonderful and is served in a pretty room. The place is convenient to everywhere and the rooms are a good size.
Review 115:No criticisms at all.
Review 116:A little bit of luxury in the German Colony in Haifa. Beautiful softwhite beds and sumptuous bathrooms. Perfectly located for restaurantsand seeing the old city. Such a shame we only stayed one night! It wasvery difficult to leave the next morning and next time around we will bestaying much longer. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 117:It seems to me that the roof top could be better used, when it isavailable, for seating and relaxation. The coffee during breakfast leftmuch to be desired. They have a small cappucino machine that strugglesto keep up with the morning crowd. But despite that it is a hotel Iwould stay in once again and get my coffee elsewhere. Just a tip.
Review 118:The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were tastefully decoratedand comfortable. The location is supreme. The breakfast had much tochoose from as well as delicious.
Review 119:Noise in room right off the lobby
Review 120:Beautiful location in German colony Great breakfast Beautiful roomsThere is an elevator to the lobby and to all floors
Review 121:A little tight on space. Street cleaners woke us every day.
Review 122:Very comfortable bed. Good location. Interesting restored building. Nicebalcony overlooking the central street.
Review 123:We had a lovely room to the Ben Gurion Street, but it was too loudespecially in the rush hour and in the evening with a lot of hooting. Sowe moved to quieter room facing the courtyard, which was alright then.
Review 124:Location in the lively German Colony. Atmosphere of the ancient hotel.Modern bathroom equipment and ancient tiles. 10% reduction in the nearbyRestaurant Fattouch with a signed visiting card of the Colony Hotel.
Review 125:Some of the staff was not helpful and rather rude. There was no one to help with our luggage when we arrived and the lobby is on the second floor.
Review 126:It is in a wonderful location with a beautiful view. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were well appointed and charming.
Review 127:I had stayed for 9 days Baha’i pilgrimage in March 2013. I had an excellent time. Hotel is very well design, clean and cosy. Staffs are very friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was great and I had a great view from my room. Beds are very comfortable and room is well designed. I love to be in heart of Haifa and few steps away from Baha’i gardens and many good restaurants and shops. I will recommend everyone to stay at the Colony Hotel and some my friends already plan to stay at this hotel at their next Haifa visit. Thank you so much!
