Reviews for Vinland Guesthouse
Review 1:Loved how each room has its own entrance. We stayed in October and were the only guests there I believe. Great facilities with fridge, microwave, crockery and bathroom toiletries. Plenty of space.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:This is the first place we've stayed in Iceland where we felt that the owners really cared about the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. Very good value for money, nice warm rooms which are well provisioned. Friendly and polite proprietor who gave us good recommendations of where to eat.
Review 4:Very thin walls- you can always hear the neighbours. The sink was leaking, the heater for towels didn't work. No grocery closer then 15min by car, quite far from the city.
Review 5:Kettle, tea, microwave, parking place in front of the door, owner was available both in the evening and early in the morning.
Review 6:Very nice and helpful reception. Seems like he really care about his guests and thought about all the little details. The room is very big and comfortable. Price is good for iceland.
Review 7:There is a electricity socket next to the bed with a little blue light, which is a bit bright during the night. But this is only a very minor complaint. Everything else was excellent.
Review 8:Great room. From the outside it looks a bit outdated, mainly because of the paintscheme. But on the inside it's a very nice, well maintained room. Great bathroom, with for a change, enough room to place your stuff. Owner was very nice and helpfull in giving advice on restaurants, etc. No breakfast, but bakery is close (few minutes by car).
Review 9:1) Rooms are not soundproof - we could hear the neighbours showering right next to our bed, very late at night. 2) Satellite TV - unfortunately only with German and French channels. 3) No breakfast available.
Review 10:1) Room size - there are six rooms in the guesthouse and ours was very spacious with large bed and lots of room for the luggage. 2) Bathroom - also big, modern and clean. 3) Kitchenette - equipped with microwave, kettle and mini fridge (tea/coffee were provided). 4) Free WiFi (reasonable speed).
Review 11:A bit out of the way - nothing in walking distance (though only a 5 minute drive across the bridge into town). The walls were too thin. Got woken up before 6am by someone using the shower in the room next door.
Review 12:Comfortable and clean. Good wifi.
Review 13:The 6-unit guesthouse shakes with each step of any guest, so until everyone was settled it was hard to fall asleep.
Review 14:Our room was completely serviceable and clean. The manager gave great dinner and breakfast recommendations, which we followed and enjoyed (dinner at a nearby hotel was the best of our trip; cheap local bakery was excellent for breakfast). This is not a hotel and does not market itself as such, but it was affordable and completely fine for a one-night stopover.
Review 15:That there was no breakfast. Though, the bakery that the owner suggested, is opened from 7 am in the morning, so you can easily find food.
Review 16:Good location, beautiful view, clean and modern room with kettle and microwave, self-cleaning facilities and a porch were to eat dinner and read your book. Nice stroll away from the city center, where you can eat and buy food. The good recommendations from the owner, where to go. Very good value for the price.
Review 17:The fridge is too small.
Review 18:Very nice hotel indeed.Friendly inn keeper, quiet location off the road, good WiFi,large bathroom, comfortable bed, electric kettle and microwave, hair dryer.
Review 19:Really great private room removed from the city. If you're coming from the north, it's actually on Vinland road before the bridge. If you're coming from the south cross the bridge. The room was very nice and clean with a microwave and dishes and a nice bathroom. Breakfast not included but bakery close by to grab something to eat.
Review 20:They didn't serve breakfast.
Review 21:Innkeepers were friendly and had great recommendations for what to do and where to eat. It was nice to have our own bathroom as well!
Review 22:The unit was extremely clean and the bathroom very modern. Can't fault anything with the place, the room is more spacious than you think! The owner was really welcoming and gave us suggestions for dinner. Only 10 minutes drive from the centre of the town.
Review 23:Everything was great. Having breakfast included would make it even better.
Review 24:The room was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. It was lovely to have our own bathroom and toilet in a guesthouse. Complimentary tea and coffee was provided which we really appreciated. Breakfast is not included but there is a small kitchen with a kettle, a fridge and a microwave. A lot of restaurants can be found in the nearby town and there is a bonus supermarket (beware it closes very early, around 6pm). The guesthouse was beautiful and really well located. We stayed there one night but would have liked to stay longer. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Review 25:I wish the room was big enough for a family of 4 so I didn't have to pay for 2 rooms-- even so, it was more affordable than other places we stayed.
Review 26:Big shower with plenty of towels; nice amenities; spacious for 2 people; wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable owner.
Review 27:Big bathroom, mainland Europe style (tissues, shower gel with dispenser, big sink), TV with international channels, towels changed every day, comfy bed, fridge, kettle, tea & coffee, homey feeling.
Review 28:Nothing :)
Review 29:Very welcoming, full of information about the area. Room was clean and comfortable. Most peaceful stay of our trip. Just off route 1 but could be a million miles away.
Review 30:Plenty of Austrian and German TV channels but nothing in English.
Review 31:Very comfortable accomodation , clean, comfortable bed, fridge, microwave, table and chairs, nice decor, plenty of room, friendly owner, new, great view from rooms 1,2,3. Highly recommended.
Review 32:Nothing not to like. Good place, quiet, handy for doing the route 1 circle, fuel nearby.
Review 33:We were greeted by the owner. Everything else in the right place. Recommendations for breakfast and dinner.
Review 34:Our room was in the back and had view. There isn't much within walking distance and the nearby city isn't very charming.
Review 35:I liked that it was very clean and nicely furnished. I liked that it had a small fridge and kettle as well as a small desk. It's excellent for a one night stay. The owner was very helpful and explained everything very well. I could tell he cares about his guests enjoying their stay and I appreciated that.
Review 36:You can't imagine the comfort of that small building when you see it from outside. Everything's in the rooms is very clean and new. And... heated floors. That was awesome!!! Good location near the bigger town with supermarkets and everything.
Review 37:Like all the places we stayed in Iceland, I wish the curtains were thicker. But it didn't affect my sleep so I guess that's fine.
Review 38:Everything, it was cosy, warm, clean and I nice place to stay for the night.
Review 39:Small and clean room. Twin beds pushed together. Large table with 2 chairs. Private water closet with shower. Refrigerator, electric kettle and instant coffee/tea. Door opens to an outdoor deck. A short drive to shops/restaurants. Good WiFi.
Review 40:Very clean, tidy and confort. The receptionist (and maybe the owner) was waiting us until we arrive (23 o'clock) and was very helpful and kind. I wish to come back.
Review 41:As a late-20s couple backpacking Iceland, this was the most beautiful place we stayed. The room was modern, the bathroom was downright stunning (HEATED FLOORS), and the location was excellent. I can't recommend this enough, and the price was the same as many much less nice youth-hostels.
Review 42:All was perfect.
Review 43:A pretty room with a complet bathroom (even hairdresser), macrowave oven and kettle. Next to Egilsstadir and to the Fljotsdalur road. Bini, who is the owner, is very kind and helpfull.
Review 44:We were having a road trip around Iceland in the season of winter storms which forced us to make frequent rearrangements along the way... We booked Vinland guesthouse on short notice after cancelling a leg of our trip due to blocked road as it happened so often in this season. So we found ourselves spending the night in a compact yet surprisingly clean and comfortable apartment located across the river from Egilsstaðir. The host (Binni) was extremely nice and attentive. He accommodated us on short notice and gave us plenty of information not only around the property but also for our onward trip to the west. He also gave us kind and thoughtful advice on our road trip based on weather forecasts and his personal experiences.Icelandic weather is known to be capricious just as Icelandic hospitality is known to be persistent. One interlude was when we saw a warning for a major storm throughout Iceland we decided to stay for two more days at Egilsstaðir until the roads are clear. We also wanted to try the other Vinland property, the Vinland cottage. So we went up to the host in the morning and arranged two nights of stay at the cottage. However shortly after we moved to the cottage from the guesthouse and were just getting ourselves around this charming settlement, we noticed (on Vegagerðin) the road to the west was cleared. Although hesitant about the developing storm, we didn’t want to miss the chance to move forward along our trip so as to avoid potential change to our returning flights from Reykjavik. When we brought this up to the host, he understood the situation immediately, that if we were to leave, we ought to leave immediately before the road condition worsened again. He not only offered to refund us for the rest of our stay (one and a half day) without us asking but also agreed that if the road became impassable again later that day and if we were forced to return to Egilsstaðir, we could return to the cottage to spend the night.
Review 45:The gentlement @ reception was extreme helpful. He gave us valuable information on road conditions and weather. If wasn't for his kindness, we mostly likely be stranded in a snow storm! Accommodation was excellent - clean, good wifi, nice selection of tv channels and comfy beds. A few minutes drive is bonus supermarket which is handy. Thanks Charlie n dad
Review 46:staff was really nice, we arrived really late and he would wait for us and even call us to let us know which road are blocked and how to get there and also showed us some useful websites to use in Iceland. Room was worm and cozy, bathroom was very clean and nice. Definitely worth ur money!!
Review 47:Not that much space to wash dishes as the sink in the bathroom was a bit small. No sponge and dish washing liquid to clean the dishes. But all this not tragic at all, so all OK!.
Review 48:Very friendly and helpfull host, who gave us many tips what to do and where to go; the path- and driveway to the room was cleared from snow, which was a very rare experience during our stay in Iceland!. The room was modern, well equipped (microwave, water cooker, fridge) and seemed to be freshly renovated. We even had German television - maybe a coincidence.... We would always recommend this for a short term visit, as in one room - even if good in size - there is not so much room for luggage and excess items.
Review 49:Owner is very friendly, we forgot some staff in the room, and he brought it to us to Reykjavik! Room was clean, with fridge, microwave and kettle. Location is not central, but good for spotting the Nothern lights
Review 50:Very nice and friendly staff. He offered free pick up from city to guesthouse and called to check if we lost the way. Provided good suggestion on road condition, weather and attraction places. The room is very nice with very warm blanket. microwave, dishes, water boiling pot are available in the room.
Review 51:I liked that this was a little outside of town. It was very quiet and the check-in/check-out prcess was very easy. Overall it was a nice little stay with a very nice bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised.
Review 52:Very friendly owner, place was clean. Microwave and water heater to warm something up are available. Good place for exploring the North-east of iceland.
Review 53:amazing host who was friendly and happy to spend a few hours with us in conversation, extending to us true Icelandic hospitality. :) room was amazingly clean beautiful cottage comfortable bed microwave was super useful! amazing view of the sky from within the cottage and from the porch, perfect for catching the Northern lights.
Review 54:Room is quite small.
Review 55:away from city light and window view is quite nice if you book a room facing south. Although we have a small problem with the bathroom, the host rearranged a new one immediately, very nice ppl.
Review 56:No breakfast service, but we had several dining options nearby, plus we could buy food at the local store and keep things cold in our 'frig.
Review 57:Vinland Guesthouse is off the road, so traffic noise is at a minimum. Comfortable room with refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils, and an electric jug. Other guests were next door to us and we didn't hear anything throught the walls.
Review 58:The staff was very nice, we arrived late but they were still waiting for us and they answered many questions we had about the place and the eruption on Bárðarbunga. The room had very good wifi, we could make coffee and tea, it was very comfortable and we had a very good night of sleep. The place was incredibly clean. The location was a bit outside of Egilsstaðir, but we had a car so it was no problem. The price was about right, so we got good value for our money.
Review 59:Bed was a little soft for my liking. Slow wifi connection but normal for Iceland. The room has an Ethernet jack but it wasn't any faster than the wifi.
Review 60:Very clean and neat room. Good recommendation from proprietor for a place to eat. Quiet location and a safe distance from the lake monster.
Review 61:It's location is out of town and not ideal.
Review 62:Reception staff gave useful route advice. There's no breakfast here but he arranged for us to have breakfast at a nearby hotel which was nice and decent value.
Review 63:- not possible to get breakfast (but self-catering is simple) - shelf above bed makes it impossible to sit comfortably on the bed while reading or working on your laptop
Review 64:- good location - well-equipped room - nice bathroom - free wifi and wired broadband in rooms - comfy beds - good value for money
