Reviews for The Kenmare Bay Hotel & Leisure Resort

Review 1:Hotel is generally tired and needs redecoration

Review 2:Average 3 star hotel which was adequate for a one night stay. 4 star accommodation close by was available for slightly higher price.

Review 3:The attitude of the girl on reception was bad. the bar area is a disaster no bar seats at the bar only a couple of tables in the so called lounge and the only other seating area is in a dinning area off the bar that is set up for breakfast. the toilet area is a good distance away from the bar the whole set up and lay out is all wrong, was staying for 2 nights on arriving tired after a 7 hour drive, tired and hungry the only food the hotel could offer us was a bag of chirps or else ring a Chinese I was told so it was off to bed hungry.

Review 4:Nothing

Review 5:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The walk to town was short and well-marked. The swimming pool was a real attraction for our granddaughter.

Review 6:Only the one thing ... Shower was a disaster ... It was lack of pressure and the following morning it was cold and after about 10 mins it got warm ... But really at this stage a disaster of a shower experience

Review 7:Location was perfect... Staff were friendly ...perfect place to get away to

Review 8:The only fault I had was the showers in the leisure centre were on the cool side.

Review 9:Staff were nice and friendly. There was a great selection of food for breakfast.

Review 10:We were travelling with a toddler and just for one night, and if we had known beforehand, we would not have sat beside the toys area in the restaurant, as play was all he wanted to do. It's a difficult one. It could be useful but also not if you want the child to eat. Not really a criticism though. I suppose we could have been asked if we wanted to sit there

Review 11:Liked the welcoming atmosphere. Room was great-had a bath and a shower. Double bed, single bed, sofa and a cot for the toddler. It's close to Kenmare town and the ideal place to overnight.

Review 12:Maybe some more parking would do!

Review 13:The room was spacious and comfortable, location is great, very close to town and a good base for tours, walks, hiking or just explore around.

Review 14:Nothing to complain about, everything was great and we would go back again as we enjoyed our stay very much

Review 15:The check in was quick and the reception staff very friendly, the leisure centre was fab, the room was big and comfortable with under floor heating in the bathroom, quick access to town via a little footpath, all very convenient

Review 16:I enjoyed our stay immensely. There is nothing I could fault. Beautiful hotel, food gorgeous, staff VERY helpful & friendly. Would definitely call again.

Review 17:Walls were thin, could hear snoring quite loudly from the room next door. Full of kids but then it was school holidays.

Review 18:Nice decor. Staff were helpful. Rooms were very clean. Breakfast was lovely.

Review 19:No money off as we were with wedding party. This wasn't stipulated. No gluten and lactose provision in canapés and it was drawing blood at breakfast to get something.

Review 20:Very helpful housekeeping staff... I need a fridge in my room for my sons meds... The cleaning lady was so very lovely and made sure that fridge was working properly after she delivered it

Review 21:The room was in disrepair, dirty walls, ceiling and carpet, hole in bathroom door, a battered bin, an Un-ironed duvet cover and d room was freezing in d afternoon/eve. Disgusted that we had to pay for this room and disappointed that our long awaited night of luxury was in a dirty room.

Review 22:Breakfast was good. We had massages and the therapist was very good, friendly and the beauty rooms were lovely.

Review 23:Hotel bar not good, too cramped. Some seating in the bar area looked dirty. Main bar very poor for a hotel like this, bad design. Entrance door poor design. Some staff appear snappy and grumpy, appeared to be aggressive.

Review 24:Pool, sauna and steam room. Function room excellent.

Review 25:The room was very shabby, in poor repair and in need of a decent clean (cobwebs, stained walls & grouting) I flagged this to reception staff and while they were very nice and apologised profusely no attempt was made to ensure I returned in the future or had a better room. This is disappointing as I have used this chain of hotels regularly.

Review 26:Location and facilities are great.

Review 27:Staff very welcoming, Leisure centre was superb. Breakfast very good and we ate dinner on first night, very good choice of food and good value. Pint of Guinness and coffee very good in Bar

Review 28:Only thing was the bar was not manned properly the night we were there, I wanted a cocktail and felt very bar for the lovely young woman that served me (she may have been a manager) as she went out of her way to make It for me even though it wasn't her job.

Review 29:Staff very welcoming and helpful. Room comfortable, net and tidy. The reception area is beautiful and the hotel is located close to all tourist attractions. Pool and leisure area is lovely.

Review 30:The tea and in the bedroom was dire. We went out and bought our own. We had a similar experience when we attended a wedding two yrs ago. We were on the second floor this time and the music from the function room was very loud, luckily it didn't go on too late but it did wake me a few times.

Review 31:The room was very comfortable. Staff excellent, food perfect.

Review 32:Wet morning and had to walk across car park to main hotel to get breakfast. Bedroom was a long way from main hotel area. Also had to park well away from reception and got wet checking in and out.

Review 33:Good Service Friendly staff

Review 34:The double bed was not great especially on one side but fortunately there were two beds in the room so we used both.

Review 35:Nice hotel with very goid staff in excellent location.

Review 36:I can't fault the hotel.

Review 37:The smooth check in at reception and the staff tending to the bar and drinks reception were very polite and the service was excellent. As a guest at a wedding being held there I can honestly say the food, set up and service was fantastic and our room large and spotlessly clean. The view from the wedding reception room on the 1st floor of the Kerry mountains made quite an impact.

Review 38:No room service. Affixed late, and hungry, but couldn't get substantial food. Being I'm a fairly small town there were no options to go elsewhere.

Review 39:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet.

Review 40:The bed seemed tiny!!! Not much choice of bar food - paid a lot to stay here so was a bit disappointed

Review 41:Breakfast was lovely! Beautician was so nice & perfect treat when going to a wedding!

Review 42:Bedroom was very noisy from people walking as near the entrance

Review 43:Very nice design of the room and the bathroom and overall of the hotel. Close walk to town.

Review 44:The hotel was cold everywhere. The room was small for 4 people .The campbed was disgraceful falling apart. One of the waitresses was grumpy and not nice but the girl was worked very hard and had everything to do.She was also cheeky .Overall I have stayed in many hotels and never had a complaint before. BUT I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Not good for tourism.

Review 45:The food was good but not a great menu

Review 46:I thought the carpet on the corridor was quite shabbey looking ,I also thought I booked my stay for €90 &when my husband paid it was €99

Review 47:I loved the entrance lovely welcome from staff &a nice athmosphere firt impressions good

Review 48:Dinner was not as good as I expected especially as my friend ordered salmon on the al a carte menu..i ordered salmon from the set dinner menu ..the difference was considerable. The al la carte was far nicer. I don't why this would be the case as we were both paying for our meals. We have not experienced this at any other hotel where we have used a package deal.

Review 49:Location was perfect. Staff were excellent especially Trish in the SPA. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 50:Parking is the only problem at night as it is a very busy hotel with weddings, but it is not a major problem.

Review 51:I travelled with my elderly mother. We had a lovely quiet room and it was very comfortable, ground floor access.

Review 52:Excellent place, quality through out, wonderful experience from saying good evening to the lovely receptionist on arrival to saying goodbye on departure.

Review 53:Lovely scenery so near kemare really enjoyed stay unfortunately my husband was unable to go on a cycle due to the rain but hotel even had a lockerfor his bike love to go again

Review 54:Room was in different building to the actual hotel Room seemed very cold Had to ring reception for towels Bar could do with music Went down 9:30 for breakfast so I understand we were late but i wasn't impressed with quality or quantity of breckfast

Review 55:Overall good experience Lovely hotel lovely staff lovely residents bar Room was nicely thought out and modern

Review 56:In order to get from the reception to the bar area , there was no ramp, only steps making it very awkward for us with a buggy and a sleeping baby!!!! you really need to make a ramp !!!!!!!

Review 57:Location

Review 58:nothing

Review 59:This hotel is very convenient to kenmare and has a private pathway to the town which takes 3 mins to walk . The staff were nice and the hotel is well layed out .

Review 60:I wish it was closer to the beach.

Review 61:The hotel staff were professional and helpful. The facility was clean, modern and quiet. It was within walking distance of the beach. The included breakfast was fine and the price was excellent.

Review 62:The Warm WELCOME received at the desk on arrival. Breakfast was excellent and the room was great. My Family has been coming to stay at the Kenmare Bay Hotel since the late 1970's. Thank You for keeping up to the great excellence over the years past and for the future.

Review 63:we were given room by playroom on ground floor so kids constantly running up and down corridor and knocking on doors. maybe good idea to keep families separately on ground floor

Review 64:rooms were nice size and comfortable

Review 65:The breakfast was lovely, I asked the waitress for some brown sauce, and was informed by her that ye had none. fry up not the same without brown sauce for me. Pillows very very hard

Review 66:Value for money, Also had dinner there excellent food. Chicken liver pate fab. Reception staff excellent

Review 67:No breakfast included in price which was already steep at €140 for two.

Review 68:Location is excellent however our room was ages away from reception desk and in the old part of hotel. For €140 for two it wasn't worth it.

Review 69:If I was being fussy, bed could have been six inches wider. However it was comfortable. I know this is the kind of prices you pay for many places in Ireland however 150 per night was a lot to pay. Not sure what could be done about this as I know it is expensive to run a business in Ireland. Living in North Kerry the prices do not motivate me to come away for an occasional weekend break for example. I am a middle income earner

Review 70:Friendly service, good breakfast nice swimming pool, and quiet rooms. Good access to South Kerry.

Review 71:Only thing we didn't like was the bed! didn't get much sleep because it was so hard and for the money we paid it was like sleeping on a concrete slab!

Review 72:We liked everything the pool was brilliant and hotel staff friendly overall lovely laid back atmosphere

Review 73:We had room 607, it was old fashioned dull and the bed was very uncomfurtable , the TV in the room had very poor pitcher, with four chanels. The noise level was bad, their was five spear beds stored at the end of the hall way.

Review 74:There wasn't anything I didn't like didnt have breakfast but overall for comfort cleanness and quietness even though thete was a wedding on.perfect location will go there again

Review 75:As above

Review 76:We booked the day before and were told we received the best available price.while standing at reception we heard a walk in customer offered the same room for €10 less than we paid with breakfast which was not included in our rate. When I pointed this out to the receptionist she told me that's how it goes! 8pm 21st July 2015

Review 77:First impressions hard to find parking space. Rooms dated & need to be modernised. We didn't feel the hotel reprinted good value for money

Review 78:Location was good Breakfast was nice Lunch was ok however my wrap was given to me burnt.

Review 79:Lacking in charm - felt more like a blah Hilton in Anytown, USA, than something in the beautiful and magical countryside of Ireland. A bit overpriced given how "meh" the accommodations were.

Review 80:Decent place to stay - fairly clean, comfortable, easy walk to town. Decent breakfast in the morning. Nice staff.

Review 81:Few provision made for the ROK charity cycle regarding bicycle storage and breakfast, and I believe many cyclists stayed in the hotel. An early hot breakfast (porridge/eggs etc) would have been ideal, but only continental breakfast provided for, which I didn't want. I thought the lobby and public areas to the hotel were poorly decorated and dated, it felt like a large hair salon from the 90's.

Review 82:Location was good for the ROK, but is fair walk to Kenmare town. The room and in particular the shower room was nice.

Review 83:I was unable to use the bath as the water ran brown. It had sediment/ rust in it despite filling the bath three times and letting the water run for ages. The staff response was disappointing.

Review 84:Really there wasn't nothing we didn't like. It was a very pleasant stay.

Review 85:The hotel is located just a two/three minutes drive from the town centre and it has a very nice swimming pool and spa. The rooms are big and very comfortable. The staff is helpful and tried to accommodate all our requests. They also upgraded our standard room to a superior room free of charge.

Review 86:The hotel was spotlessly clean, rooms were a little dated but very comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. I couldn't fault the hotel.

Review 87:The hotel was very easy to stay in, it is not a multi story building, parking is at the front of the hotel and a short 3 minute walk to the town center The staff were very good, the room was fresh and everything worked.

Review 88:Shower seemed dated. Hired a large SUV and when parked at Hotel was blocked in by coaches on a couple of occasions. Orange juice tasted as though it was from concentrate - quite bitter.

Review 89:Lovely large and spotless room Fruit and flowers provided as requested Towels provided fresh every day. Guest internet down but the hotel were able to assist with on line printing of documents for return flight. Hotel staff very friendly and efficient. Fresh fruit salads at breakfast were lovely. Pleasant walk from hotel to local town.

Review 90:The Hotel is in a perfect location for access to the town & local activities. Facilities were up there with the best. Staff were pleasant, helpful & well presented. Our room was everything we expected; comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated & quiet. The Breakfast provided was superb. Fantastic selection available for all tastes.

Review 91:One regular plug socket in the whole room. It meant we could only charge one phone at a time, assuming we didn't need it for anything else.

Review 92:The reception allowed us to check in early to get ready for the wedding we were attending. They were also very helpful and friendly whenever we needed anything.

Review 93:The location suited me as I was attending a function nearby but I felt it was expensive for a single occupant

Review 94:Helpful and courteous staff when checking in.

Review 95:The bar had little atmosphere. Guinness wasn't great. The town was only 5 minutes walk to where there are great pubs and restaurants.

Review 96:Everything except the bar area. Leisure center was great. Location was great and really helpful staff.

Review 97:we were part of a large group staying for a wedding and everyone found the accommodation, facilities, staff and food top class. Kenmare Bay is friendly, relaxing and efficient

Review 98:No complaints

Review 99:Lovely hotel.Extremely child friendly. Breakfast was yummy each morning - loads to choose from. The children's menu was great, loads of proper dinners. We had a ball.

Review 100:We asked for a quiet room and where given a lovely room BUT it had an adjoining door to the next room and hence there was no soundproofing!! We had a VERY sleepless second night with a drunk guest next door falling asleep at 0100 with his TV ON max volume! Even the staff could not wake him and security had to break into the room!! THEN he repeated the procedure at 0800.

Review 101:The venue, staff and exceptional high standard of the whole property.

Review 102:Dinner very good but beef steak not edible...........suspect a poor butcher! Lack of air con could leave bedrooms uncomfortable in warm weather

Review 103:Very nice ambience, good staff and background music at a minimum volume. Good free WiFi, free parking. Generally, a relaxing experience.

Review 104:The staff from the moment you check in at reception to all who you meet before you leave could not be more helpful especially the bar staff and the manager at night time who we had contact with.

Review 105:staff were fabulous and nothing was any problem. I requested the room for one o clock as we were going to a wedding and the groom and groomsmen needed to change.

Review 106:Having stayed here before in a room with a modern bathroom (shower & bathtub) on the leisure centre side of the hotel I was disappointed this time to be located in an older wing in a warren of corridors / stairs. The room was a bit smaller and the bathroom old fashioned. Also the room was a little cold. The room price was the same as the last time however it was not the same quality this time which was disappointing. I stayed two nights and felt that I had been disadvantaged in being assigned this room as there was a wedding party who only stayed one night and appeared to have the newer, better located rooms. Lobby area in the hotel is also small so there is nowhere other than the bar to sit and relax during the day.

Review 107:The hotel is in a handy location, a few mins walk to town with sufficient parking. Nice leisure centre. Rooms are basic but clean.

Review 108:Bar area is a little disappointing, more setup for families than for a quiet, relaxing drink. One section of the bar was setup for kids to watch kids tv. Not a problem I suppose if you intend relaxing in the centre of town.

Review 109:Only a short walk from centre, great leisure facilities and nice staff.

Review 110:A little of the beaten track.

Review 111:This is a great hotel and very child friendly(and adult friendly). The staff were so lovely and welcoming. The customer service was first class.Great rooms, breakfast, and pool.

Review 112:We were given a family room with the pull out bed made up even though we had only booked a double room. My first job was to dismantle the extra bed so we had space to move around.

Review 113:We stayed for in Kenmare for two nights in early April. This is a lovely hotel which has the feel of an independent hotel yet is part of a wider group. On arrival we were met by a friendly receptionist who told us we had been given a complimentary upgrade :-) The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Our bathroom had a separate shower and bath and was clean and contemporary. All the furniture and paintwork was well maintained. So often this isn't the case with larger hotels. The WIFI was good and worked in the room as well as public areas. We used the leisure facilities after a tiring day exploring the Ring of Kerry, the Jacuzzi, pool, sauna and steam room were all excellent. The pool was busy as it was being used for childrens swimming lessons but that is to be expected when it is the only pool in a small village, a small price to pay for the safety of little ones and helps to support the businesses in small communities like this. However there are adult only hours if this is a problem to you. Buffet breakfast was included in our stay and was a reasonable selection of cereals, cooked irish products, fruits and yoghurts. We also used the residents bar one evening and the prices were very reasonable for a hotel. All of the staff we encountered were very polite, friendly and helpful. It is a short 5 minute walk into Kenmare village centre via a pedestrian path which was very handy.

Review 114:Didn't think some of the bar staff were all that good coping with our small enough wedding crowd. We were overcharged for our first drink but subsequently refunded after we complained and had to repeat our orders numerous times after that. Service was slow. The lane way that led from the hotel towards town was poorly lit and didn't look that safe at night time, even though I have no evidence to support that it is other than safe, I would be nervous allowing my partner walk down there on her own in the dark

Review 115:Nice hotel, rooms were nice and clean. Short walk to town

Review 116:Our sleep was disturbed due to the smell of cigarette smoke coming in under the door from the adjoining room, we had to put a towel at the foot of the door.

Review 117:The location is in walking distance of the town and has great pool facilities. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless and comfortable.

Review 118:Pillows uncomfortable No food/room service after 9.30 pm for late arrivals/returns, No provision for early continental breakfast before 8am for early departure.

Review 119:Beds great, Pool lovely Breakfast great and porridge wonderful! Rooms lovely (newer ones)

Review 120:Honestly nothing, & I don't take prisoners when & if I find fault!

Review 121:Everything! Welcomed at the front desk, room spotless, bar lovely, kids loved the pool, breakfast was second to none. The room must have been soundproofed cos none of heard a sound. I stayed with husband & two early teens Kids & family room was more than enough for us.

Review 122:Make sure if you do not like cigarette smoke that when you check in they put you away from the smoking rooms. The stench permeated across the hall through the bathroom ventilation system and the whole room smelled horribly.

Review 123:The staff was excellent and incredibly accommodating. The breakfast was a good value; great spread and good quality. Arrive early as it becomes a feeding frenzy. The holiday rental houses are onsite and can use the resorts facilities. I recommend this place, but...

Review 124:This was our second stay in the hotel and we were there this time to attend my sisters wedding, which was wonderful. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Great facilities, gym and pool. The hotel is only a 5min walk outside Kenmare town via a pathway and is in a prime location to visit Kerry and West Cork. Really enjoyed our stay and would go back.

Review 125:There was nothing I didn't like about the place.

Review 126:We had a fantastic time . The staff were so welcoming and friendly. It was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The rooms were so comfortable. With free wifi throughout.

Review 127:There was a wedding on at the hotel during our stay and it took over! We were unable to enjoy a drink at the bar and would not stay again if there was a wedding at the same time. There should be a separate bar area for guests when weddings are taking place.

Review 128:The staff were friendly and there was a nice atmosphere in the hotel - it was also well positioned to the town and with children the pool was great.

Review 129:We really enjoyed our stay at the Kenmare Bay Hotel, it was our third time staying here and always find the hotel so relaxing and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is so close to the town which is very handy and we had a great night in Kenmare on the Saturday night. We would highly recommend this hotel to couples and families alike.
