Reviews for Sheen Falls Lodge
Review 1:Booked the hotel as it was down as "pet friendly" but it's not really compared to others as the dog is kept in stables .. Credit to the staff for providing a lock for the stable door.
Review 2:Loved the location, so tranquil. Love Kenmare as a town.
Review 3:Parking was a bit of a walk otherwise had to use valet which was quick but a hassle. Gps brought us in over s very narrow one lane bridge over the falls. Suggest entering from Kenmare. Much less stressful!
Review 4:Quiet, comfortable, large room
Review 5:My husband had a bday which we've celebrated in the hotel restaurant. Therefore I've asked the servant if they can make a surprise dessert for him. The result was that it was forgotten. So I was pretty disappointed. However as an excuse we've got two glasses of champagne delivered to the room afterwards.
Review 6:Very beautiful location with the small waterfalls right beside the hotel that you can see even while having your breakfast. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bed was really huge and comfortable. I would also recommend to visit the hotel restaurant - gourmet food is pretty good there. Moreover the hotel offers plenty other possibilities such as spa, fishing, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. But better book in advance
Review 7:Swimming pool is far too small - more than two people and its full Spa was not fully working
Review 8:Hotel location; room; food and staffwere all fantastic - would highly recommend
Review 9:Fine dining was very good, but price (in our opinion) not in line with the quality offered
Review 10:Ideal place to completely relax. Our (classic) room was huge, and we so much enjoyed sitting at the window, looking out over the estuary and hearing nothing but the sound of birds. A bit of paradise on earth. Staff is very friendly, helpful and totally guest oriented. One of our best total-relaxation experiences ever. The beautiful September sun certainly was an added bonus.
Review 11:Stayed for five nights and would have been nice if a bar/grill menu with more choice had been available. Local bars/restaurants in Kenmere provided more choice for us on three evenings during our stay.
Review 12:Location, room and facilities were excellent.
Review 13:Staff for the most part friendly and tried to be helpful, but not trained. Not enough staff to give 5* experience, especially in restaurant and Health Spa. Service inconsistent. Dated. Very disappointing and bad value overall.
Review 14:Location. Nice bedroom.
Review 15:From 'soup to nuts,' from spacious rooms and elegant grounds to wonderful breakfasts and convivial staff, we thought this hotel first rate on all levels.
Review 16:Cant think of anything which could iprove
Review 17:We was lucky to be upgraded along with our friends but the comments would be just the same we where traveling with our American friends wh wher very impressed
Review 18:The hotel took my breath away. Beautiful surroundings, the hotel seemed very calming, room was very big with large window overlooking the river. I would imagine all the rooms would have stunning views as some look onto the falls. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed for 3 nights and overall it was an amazing experience. Completely unwound. I would love to have the chance to stay again and would highly recommend it to family and friends.
Review 19:Rooms and place needs sprucing up. Have stayed many times but investment needed. Decor same for years particularly in bedrooms.
Review 20:Location and value compared to peer hotels in area
Review 21:Wifi was terrible! Totally impossible to get connection where our room was located. Exercise room was advertized but apprently had been removed a few months before. We had to go into town.
Review 22:Great hotel, perfect location, great dining
Review 23:We thought that there would be good walks within the grounds of the hotel but we didn't find them.
Review 24:The calm atmosphere and the pleasant at affordable.
Review 25:Welcoming staff with great attention to details and an awesome scenery of the surrounding areas of the hotel. Served excellent dinner and breakfast and a most comfortable bed for a good sleep.
Review 26:Pool/spa area very small, hadn't booked spa treatments in advance & unable to fit me in for any appointments when tried booking during my stay
Review 27:Lovely staff, lovely setting, gorgeous breakfast
Review 28:Only minor negative was no fitness center. Wasn't comfortable running on roadway.
Review 29:Absolutely gorgeous setting! Loved everything. Hospitality was amazing. Room was gorgeous and spacious.
Review 30:A long anticipated visit to Sheen Falls Lodge, based upon its longstanding reputation, fell short of expectations by any measure. After long discussion at breakfast we were left with two possibilities, either the property is going bankrupt or ownership has cut the purse strings and the management company is hanging on for dear life. Consider the following: We arrived from a long drive, tired and parched. I attempted to order 3 different Irish whiskeys and found they were all “out of stock” to be resupplied tomorrow when the delivery arrives. Really? The rooms were very comfortable and quiet, but at shower time (8:30am) there was no hot water. When some arrived a little later it was tepid at best. The dining room staff were pleasant and attentive and the food was excellent but again, try as they may, too many mistakes were made. A small pitcher of mignonette sauce was served to accompany my oysters, but the waiter said it was for use with the fois gras appetizer. Likely their training was incomplete? We all ordered duo of lamb, one medium, the rest medium rare. When they were delivered to the table it had been reversed, one medium rare, four mediums. This just shouldn’t happen. Attempting to go outside from the bar area for a photograph, the door handle came off in my hand. Luckily I got it back on. Finally, in this day and age when all travel planning is done by Internet, the property had none, or none that worked. On arrival, we just gave up. In the morning when plans were to be made, it was so tedious that we again gave up. This just shouldn’t be. My wife also noticed the flower arrangements weren’t nearly as fresh as they should be, an attention to detail that was lacking. We can only assume that there isn’t the budget to maintain the property, as it should be. Any of these issues taken on their own could be overlooked but in aggregate, for a hotel of this caliber, they are inexcusable. This is a truly a Relais and Chateau no show!
Review 31:The scenary is impeccable and location is excellent as it is just a shirt taxi ride into kenmare. The staff were excellent, so courteous and friendly and could not be more accommodating. The room was beautiful but overlooking the bay but had no balcony. It was super quiet at night and the bed was extremely comfy. The only thing I would say is that it is expensive. Ask for the activity price before you do anything!!
Review 32:Waited at reception too long on arrival, receptionist that greeted us seemed disinterested & made us feel uncomfortable. Not good enough in a 5 star just after arriving. Hotel was slightly chilly on first night. At breakfast a waitress brought our prepared course (only one) to our table before we had finished the buffet section. She stood there seemingly unaware of what to do until we asked her would she mind coming back when we were finished, again not good enough for 5 star quality service to be fair. On ordering a cocktail the barman had to read the recipe off the menu card as he made up the drink...we waited by the bar for around 6-7 minutes while he made 2 cocktails...again not really 5 star service.
Review 33:The Falls, the room, the breakfast and afternoon tea were all excellent value. The deputy manager Ciaran was also outstanding in his dealings with us.
Review 34:The "spa" area was a big let down and the breakfast nothing to write home about -not much of a choice
Review 35:Dinner was delicious and the hotel very relaxing with a beautiful setting
Review 36:Cant think of anything....
Review 37:Everything..staff politeness and efficiency. Warm atmpsphere, peaceful and calm. Ideal for getting away from everyday stress. Enjoyed 100%
Review 38:The room was a little tired- in need of freshening up. The swimming pool was freezing and we were unable to go into due to the temperature of the water - a member of staff informed us after that it had recently been cleaned.
Review 39:View from room lovely. Staff friendly
Review 40:I think there should be a fitness centre and the spa should be developed. The property is supposed to be on 350 acres but access is not possible as it's just fields - no walks. The woodland that used to be there ie the queens walk is not there anymore due to storm damage.
Review 41:The staff were excellent and made the hotel a 5 star experience. The hotel is incredibly comfortable and homely. We felt like we had a real break from our hectic life. We enjoyed the golf and clay pidgeon shooting
Review 42:the breakfast was not value for money! was expensive, slow in being issued which is ok but without any refill of coffee or tea over (45 mins) it became tedious ,and a sausage which was uncooked , which was a disappointing end to our stay
Review 43:friendly staff, very welcoming ,enjoyable location
Review 44:Nothing!!!!!
Review 45:Everything!!!!! staff were excellent, location was beautiful, food was delicious suite was out of this world an amazing place to stay!!!!!!
Review 46:Only on this visit - having to wait an hour for our meal in the bar area despite making a booking - which seemed to have been forgotten!!
Review 47:Great hotel, beautiful location - our third visit and still one of our favourite places to stay. Very happy memories of our son's wedding reception there a year ago - the service for which was outstanding, and still is.
Review 48:The health club was closed for remodeling, and the listing didn't say that. Food and drink is very expensive, even though we got the room for cheap.
Review 49:The resort was beautiful inside and out, with interesting architecture, charming warmth and class! The staff were very attentive and professional. Because we went in October, we got a phenomenally low price from Booking.com ... about 80% less than in-season!
Review 50:Lack of proper tea making facilities in the room, no biscuit, no sense of a complimentary cup of tea on arrival. Food was very expensive in the restaurant and the choice was limited.
Review 51:I liked the decor, the view and the pool facilities. One waiter was very helpful.
Review 52:The only aspect which was not of excellent standard was the general state of the building inside the guest rooms. The bed covers a bit outdated and the furniture a bit large and out of date also. The bathroom, although spacious and really lovely, showed signs of disrepair to shower etc. It could all just use a bit of freshening up I thought. But this did not detract from our lovely stay.
Review 53:The location, staff and food were all excellent features of our stay. We felt very welcome, comfortable and taken care of and the surroundings are truly beautiful and relaxing. Breakfasts were very high quality and the staff in the restaurant, at the bar and at check-in and check-out were very helpful and pleasant. We also really enjoyed using the Health Centre which is very well finished and clean and relatively empty which made the stay even more peaceful. I also really enjoyed the little Irish local touches of craft: the ceramic coffee cups in the guest rooms, the woven baskets and the also the willow baskets throughout the Main Entrance of the Hotel- nice point of difference and great way to show off the beautiful talent of Ireland- even more would be nice!
Review 54:The plumbing needs an update.
Review 55:If you want to spoil yourself, treat yourself to a suite at this wonderful place. Our rooms overlooked the stone bridge and fast flowing waterway and it was very hard to tear ourselves away. The drawing room and sun room are a real treat as is the fabulous traditional afternoon tea for 2.
Review 56:Loved everything.
Review 57:Just loved the setting with the peace and tranquility and the pleasure of listening to the sound of the water flowing from the waterfall near our bedroom.window..
Review 58:sadly our evening meal was only just warmed and was over cooked when returned. However the waiter was so apologetic and manager in morning too that it feels mean to complain
Review 59:the setting was perfect, the room with view over waterfall was perfect. Made to feel like royalty.
Review 60:From the welcome to our reluctant departure, nothing more could have been done for us. The international staff were gracious and helpful and the setting was magnificent. A must on the 'return to' list.
Review 61:Food pricing was on the high side. I should have booked with a dinner meal plan. Food was excellent.
Review 62:Spa treatments were excellent. Marie and Teddy were extremely knowledgeable and professional.
Review 63:Restaurant, service and food did not match price.
Review 64:Beautiful room, lovely grounds, near charming town of Kenmare, great made to order breakfast. Enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely recommend.
Review 65:I cannot fault the place in any way
Review 66:The suite was immaculate as was the whole hotel. There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout , the staff totally professional and there if you needed them but were never intrusive. The breakfast choice was brilliant and efficient in a lovely dining room. A totally unpretentious hotel - it certainly deserves it's five star status because real class is unpretentious
Review 67:Not a thing
Review 68:People.... Grand country house feel but in a relaxed warm manner Reading in the drawing roof The views I love Pretending to belong to another time
Review 69:The food left us dissatisfied and disappointed, especially for the price paid, food was a big let down.
Review 70:What a pricelss gem this was! THe minute you enter the Lodge you are take aback by the spectacular surroundings of the Hotel. One side the lake, the other a small river and forests, its various shades of green and blue all over. The lodge itself is a big building with a very English Manor yet modern charm. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The rooms were huge, spacious, grandly decored just like the rest of the hotel. Had a nice warm royal old world charm. Though the rooms and bathrooms could do a bit of modernisation. The Hotel was a bit understaffed as well The indoor pool, sauna , steam were very nice and very relaxing. Especially the hot water Jacuzzi, could have spent hours!!! What was breath taking was the location, located next to a small waterfall, the setting made the hotel totally worth the visit!
Review 71:I was disappointed that it was so far out of town. I probably should have looked more carefully when booking the property.
Review 72:We thought the surroundings were beautiful and our room great. The bed was to die for! Breakfast unsurpassed. Dining room for dinner stuffy.
Review 73:Internet access was slow and patchy in the room. There wasn't a gym in the health club.
Review 74:Location was excellent. Room was spacious and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:The arrival at Sheen Falls was splendid, helpful and friendly staff and a real feeling of welcome. The whole three days were relaxing and so enjoyable. The Spa and pool were delightful and so peaceful. I think the whole ambiance of the Falls is one of its utter relaxation among friends. Staff were top class.
Review 77:Poor wi-fi Slow hot breakfast orders Bouncy bed Thick pillows Lose slate paving around hotel Out dated bedroom 32 Inch TV - Requires 40 inch No air-conditioning in room No mini-bar
Review 78:Location Beautiful gardens Elegance of hotel GREAT Staff Service
Review 79:No choice of alcoholic beverages I.e beers on draught. Breakfast could finish later than 10 in the summer as most people are on holidays and everyone seemed to go for breakfast around 9.30 which meant you had to queue for a table!!
Review 80:Loved the location, scenery and beautiful woodland walks. A total chill out place to go. Staff extremely helpful and courteous. Bedrooms lovely and spacious and extremely comfortable.
Review 81:We felt the food offering did not offer good value. The fine dining option was really just good a la carte hotel dining with good ingredients/ dishes. The casual dinig option was not casual enough. Both options were overpriced for what they are. But this place generates affection and I hopethey give it attention. An improving economy may help. A lick of paint around the back of the building will be a leading indicator that confidence has returned.
Review 82:The setting, the building, the staff, the room and the overall ambience. Delightful and restful.
Review 83:only complaint was a leak in the bathroom which caused rising damp in the bathroom and a water stain in the hallway
Review 84:I loved the room size, it was big and airy. The decor was beautiful and restful. The view was fabulous from our room over the water. We wanted a quiet relaxing few days and thats what we got, it was so quiet and peaceful. The pool was fantastic. The food was gorgeous. Loved the atmosphere and the staff were helpful without being too much in your face. The coffee/tea facilities were great to have. Loved it.
Review 85:The bar staff were a bit slow , a made mistakes with orders a few times , The bar and kitchen seemed to be short staffed and a little under pressure at times,
Review 86:I can not rate this hotel highly enough .. One of the best in Ireland for sure, ut was pure luxury , and outdoors and horse riding were fabulous Our room was out of this world , the best hotel suite I have ever stayed in. Breakfast was superb !
Review 87:We felt that the staff were under pressure at breakfast having to write down all the orders from customers and trying to get the food out without delay. More staff may be needed at the busy time.
Review 88:The room was really nice with lovely view of the falls. Staff very helpful and at short notice organised a larger room with extra bed for our daughter. Lovely choice of Breakfast. The Falls are beautiful and such a lovely quiet place.
Review 89:The bed was a little too soft for me but this is just personal preference and it would have been good to have an option of different depths of pillow as they were very high and we like thin pillows. There was also an issue with the shower as the shower head was slightly broken but apart from
Review 90:On the whole we completely loved our one night stay at Sheen Falls. The staff were wonderful, the setting is beautiful and to top it all we were upgraded to a beautiful room with a sublime view of the river
Review 91:Having to leave
Review 92:Beautiful, relaxing and really hit the spot. Although we intended to use the hotel as a staging point for travelling around Ireland, we felt so relaxed that we didn't leave the hotel. Sitting on our balcony overlooking the falls was just lovely. Would highly recommend this gem.
Review 93:We were a little surprised that there were no disabled parking spaces available near the entrance to the hotel but this is a minor point as a doorman will park your car in the car park if necessary.
Review 94:The helpfulness and friendliness shown to us by all the members of the staff was second to none. We enjoyed the live Irish music in the evening and our room was spacious and luxurious. We will certainly be returning to Sheen Falls Lodge in the future.
Review 95:What a wonderful place Sheen Falls is. The staff were very welcoming, warm and friendly. When my parents arrived (it was their 50th Wedding Anniversary from their children) they were greeted by staff, taken up to their room and were made to feel very special. 2 glasses of champagne and chocolates were brought up as a little gift from the hotel. We booked the Junior Suite for them and Their room had an amazing view over the river. My husband and I also had booked a Junior Suite but decided to bring our 2 children as a last minute thing. I rang the hotel a few days earlier and they said all we had to do was pay for their breakfast, they put us in a most beautiful Suite overlooking the Lake. We had dinner in Oscars, the food and staff were amazing. My mother and I went to the spa. My mother had the paraffin hand wax and I had a foot massage, it was fabulous.
Review 96:The service for dinner on Saturday was excellent but the main course was disappointing the turbot was not as fresh as it should have been ..otherwise it was a lovely experience Joan G
Review 97:Swimming pool is on the small size and is a shame there isn't small boats to go out on when the tide is in but minor things
Review 98:The most relaxing places I have stayed ,food was excellent ,location is excellent but the biggest plus this place has is the staff ,would highly recommend this if it's a very relaxing peaceful stay your looking for
Review 99:Soda farl on the breakfast plate turned out to be Potato farl. As you can see I really had to dig deep to find fault.
Review 100:Approach to hotel and surroundings. Attention to detail. Friendly, well trained staff. Super bedroom, spacious with a spectacular views. Excellent meal in Oscars & great breakfast the following morning.
Review 101:The health suite was disappointing and the food let the holiday experience down. I would recommend the hotel but I would not be rushing back.
Review 102:The rooms and grounds are lovely. The staff very friendly and efficient.
Review 103:Having to leave.
Review 104:Without doubt the best hotel we have stayed in during this trip. Superb room & views, polite and attentive staff who made us feel special. Outstanding food both at dinner and breakfast. Many and varied facilities.
Review 105:Lovely hotel in a great location. Room was clean and spacious. Food was very good. Staff were efficient and professional. The leisure facilities were excellent . Would definitely return.
Review 106:beautiful breakfast. The room was spacious and comfortable with a view of the waterfall. We had cocktails in the bar in the evening and enjoyed the leisure centre in the morning and left feeling pampered and relaxed.
Review 107:Firstly we do not fit into any of your categories in question one. I was travelling with and older person and I felt that despite its five stars Sheen Falls Lodge does not cater for this type of traveller and frankly looking at your categories neither do Booking.com. Firstly there was no disabled parking near the Front door of the hotel upon enquiring I was informed that the car could be unloaded and It would be parked for me and collected anytime I required it this while nice is not really suitable, then to access the hotel there were three steps followed by two more maybe they have a hidden ramp if requested but the point in a five star hotel is you should not have to request something as basic as a simple way to access your hotel. The room was as requested because of difficulty walking was close to the lift but the bathroom was totally unsuitable, it had no walk in shower only one you had to climb into the bath to access. We had dinner in the restaurant the service was good and staff pleasant but the food! I ordered the pork and to say it was over cooked was to be polite, when asked I mentioned how disappointed I was and as could be seen from my plate it remained uneaten aside from some sympathy nothing was done frankly in a supposed five star hotel this is not acceptable. The following morning we ordered Breakfast in the room 9am to 9.30, approaching 9.30 I had to phone down and when it did arrive the scrambled eggs were cold, overall a disappointing visit and instead of reccommending a visit I will advise people to avoid it go to the Park instead. JS, Dublin
Review 108:The Staff were excellent, the room itself was great, well furnished and with a wonderful view.
Review 109:Left bottle of champagne in fridge as we were just married - checked out and phoned back and the bottle was gone
Review 110:Amazing location. Lovely spa
Review 111:Great value last minute rate
Review 112:Peaceful and relaxing .Great food. Large Room . Opportunity to have breakfast in the room .
Review 113:The hotel is beautiful, staff very helpful and location is fantastic
Review 114:Not mad about swimming pool
Review 115:Location Breakfasts Comfort and staff friendliness
Review 116:The pillows were not comfortable.
Review 117:Beautiful location and very friendly staff. The food was excellent and the accommodations were very nice.
Review 118:Nothing!
Review 119:Everything! Peace and quiet and the surroundings.
Review 120:One of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in The location is outstanding
Review 121:Lovely old-school luxury hotel
Review 122:Beautiful facility. Would definitely stay there again. Highly recommend giving it a try! Will stay there again when we visit Ireland again.
Review 123:Seemed impersonal, busy and rushed. A bit too formal.
Review 124:Great views and nature. Nice room.
Review 125:The ambience, location and service
Review 126:Not a gud choice on dinner menu
Review 127:Comfort and friendly staff
Review 128:It is located in a beautiful wooded area. There are many hotel amenities. The breakfast was one of the best that we had in Ireland.
Review 129:Brilliant hotel staff friendly and helpful - hotel the height of comfort!
Review 130:Beautiful location - hotel grounds were magnifcient and could not have been any better. Taxi ride to town was 7 euro - a real deal.
