Reviews for Rowan Tree Hostel

Review 1:The double bed was uncomfortable and squeaked everytime we moved waking us up :(

Review 2:Great value for money and a excellent stop over with close proximity to Shannon Airport. We had an excellent dinner at the Poets Corner Pub. The on-site restaurant looked great too :)

Review 3:We felt that a 10:30 check out was a bit too early. Would advice to change this, if possible, to a 12 o clock checkout.

Review 4:Based in the perfect location, center of the town which is always ideal. Met the receptionist on arrival and he was most welcoming and very helpful. Throughout our stay not once did we feel unwelcome, intimidated or anything of the sort! Felt so welcome and free to do as we please. Room we stayed in was spotless, bed very comfy, everything in working order. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, will most definitely be back!

Review 5:Racks in the bathroom to hang your towels would be great. It is a youth hostel so breakfast is very basic.

Review 6:We had a quite large bedroom and bathroom. The YH is in walking distance to the town which we found delightful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely lounge area.

Review 7:The accommodation is basic, but this is reflected in the price - it is still excellent value.

Review 8:The location in the heart of Ennis is perfect for weddings, etc. in the town. The staff were very friendly & helpful.

Review 9:The beds weren't super comfortable.

Review 10:The location is fantastic--right on the river, and it's an easy walk to several points of interest. It was quiet, and the kitchen was nice and big.

Review 11:Washing own dishes! We decided to eat breakfast out after observing some of the other guests dishwashing skills...not very hygienic...need dishwasher. Could use shelf by sink in the private bathroom.

Review 12:Location....quiet....helpful staff

Review 13:The staff was helpful, friendly and above all the facility was clean. The staff went out of their way to help me with all of my questions. As a first time hostel user they provided the security I was hoping for.

Review 14:Lovely location on the river with access to a great bar and cafe. Compared with many B&Bs we have stayed at in Ireland, we found this a tad pricey. Nevertheless, a great atmosphere.

Review 15:The en-suite toilet wash flushing all day and night and that was quite disturbing. We told the staff but no action was taken - the information got probably lost at receiption

Review 16:Perfect location the visit Ennis and remarkebly quite during the night (unless the toilet has problems....)

Review 17:It was a bit noisy

Review 18:The staff was very friendly and gave some tipps about the area. There is a kitchen where you can prepare your own meal, not far from the train/ bus station

Review 19:Breakfast could be better organized. Small counter for toast. One toaster burns the toast. Dishwashing is unsanitary. I would not eat here as dishes are washed by guests hopefully. Dirty dishes in sink, sponges and brush but no hot soapy water or good way to rinse. Strongly recommend commercial dishwasher!

Review 20:Free parking 5:30-9:30 overnight. Location is great.

Review 21:Bed was not very comfortable. Breakfast very basic. The price was high for what it was, but I think this is fairly typical for Ireland.

Review 22:Room and ensuite were big. Comfortable lounge and good kitchen. Reliable wifi. Ideally situated in town, a short walk from everywhere. Friendly staff who provided good information on local music sessions.

Review 23:The hostel allows interaction with other travelers but in somewhat austere conditions. You might take to it based on cost and accessibility but it is not about luxury. We did OK with our en-suite room but bring soap and shampoo and do your dishes when you are done eating!

Review 24:the walls in our room need a fresh coat of paint. and the bathroom needed a bit of refurbishing. breakfast was a bit too spartan. the self service situation was okay, but the bread for toast with butter and jam/coffee and juice was a bit too little. this was a hostel so i understand but at that point i would have gone some place else for breakfast. my room did cost about 100 euros per night.

Review 25:location was perfect for visiting ennis. liked this location particularly on the river. staff was very friendly. room was a nice size. bed comfortable. room silent as it was facing a small road. we didn't get a nicer one with view of the river unfortunately.

Review 26:WiFi not available in rooms.

Review 27:Overnight stay with my wife, staff friendly good facilities. Continental style breakfast which was enough to keep us going. Lift in the facility which was a bonus with heavy luggage.

Review 28:there was noting to not like

Review 29:What I liked best is the friends I made while I stayed in my home town I don't get back there very often as i live in wexford but Rowan tree is the best value and I slept all nite

Review 30:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff made our stay really special. They went out of their way to help us, direct us to places, etc. They just could not have been nicer!

Review 31:There was a slight miscommunication with a breakfast request but the staff member was completely accommodating and fabulous!

Review 32:Staff was amazing! The room and bathroom was large. We each were able to get keys to the room. Clean and safe. We loved this place!

Review 33:Wifi was a bit unreliable at times.

Review 34:Comfortable, quiet hostel with large dorm rooms. Self catering facilities are great and process of washing clothing was cheap, quick and easy.

Review 35:I don't see that it would be possible to say anything negative.

Review 36:The hostel is in an amazing town - along side the prettiest river. The staff are simply wonderful - friendly, fun and so helpful. The facilities are second to none - they had everything that we needed.

Review 37:Paid more than my other nights (B&B) for less. Especially breakfast.

Review 38:Location. If I were younger and with friends it would have been good. Clean and safe.

Review 39:Full of YOUNG people enjoying themselves, there's more to life than idle pleasure.

Review 40:friendly staff, arranged for safe location for motorbikes. Whole place nice and quiet despite loads and loads of hen type groups. Very mixed age groups staying and from all countries and walks of life. Loved it.

Review 41:I didn't like the 2 kids who came in at 3 am, drunk as lords, then kept me up the rest of the night, getting up to use the bathroom or throw up, snoring, talking in their sleep...They had no luggage...they just needed a cheap place to crash after a hard night of drinking.

Review 42:Staff was great! and they were there all the time. Location was fantastic. I walked to the bus/train station in 15 minutes. Nice and brisk.

Review 43:Room 101. It badly needs renovating and soundproofing.

Review 44:The helpfulness of the staff, the efforts made to give us a better room, the dining room & kitchen facilities, the location near to the town.

Review 45:Mattress pretty thin/hard. Wifi only in lobby and was spotty. Better signs to explain how to find and use "DIY" breakfast would be helpful.

Review 46:Didn't realize when I booked that this is mostly a hostel, so accommodations are basic but good for that style (we had an ensuite room to ourselves). Location is great, next to old downtown and great music pubs. Laundry facilities available, though I didn't try them. Good price!

Review 47:Receptionist on checkin had poor English and could have been more efficient

Review 48:Bedroom-they provided towels and soap which was an unexpected bonus for a hostel Nice view overlooking the river Spacious comfortable room Shower in bathroom was a wet room type one so plenty of room Restaurant downstairs was really handy, we dined there

Review 49:I didn't like it when one of the staff walked into my room without knocking first. I realize its a hostel but that doesn't give staff the right to invade the customers privacy!!!!

Review 50:there is a group of noisy teenagers who played at midnight and knocked every room's door. Very annoying and disturbing but no staff stop them.

Review 51:good location and sophisticated facilities

Review 52:Make sure to get down to breakfast early or else you'll be left with not much at all to eat.

Review 53:The hostel is stunning, especially it's location right on the bank of the river. The staff was friendly and helpful, even lighting a fire for us in rec room when we returned cold and damp at about 1 am. The rooms were clean and big. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at.

Review 54:No wifi in room, but strong signal in common areas.

Review 55:A great hostel. We had a big room with a double bed, table and chairs. Free simple breakfast. Good location, helpful staff.

Review 56:The beds are very narrow, therefore be carefull with your head.

Review 57:the general area is nice and spacious, especially the kitchen offers a lot of space and facilities. The location of the hostel is great!

Review 58:I just had a little issue of noise in the wee hours in the morning but it wasn't too bad

Review 59:the staff was friendly and accomodating the rooms were well kept and the location was ideal for what we needed to do

Review 60:The wifi only works in the common areas, would be nice to be able to use it in the room as well. Also the only common space was hard tables and chairs, would be nice to be able to sit on a couch if you have to be in the common area to be online

Review 61:The room was really spacious and had shelves and hooks for storage which was a nice feature. The ensuite was also really nice.

Review 62:Rowan tree hostel is located in the centre of ennis.Rooms are spacious & comfortable. the self-catering kitchen is well equiped & the free breakfast is great to start the day.

Review 63:i think bedside lamps should be provided... staff at hostel should be more sympathetic to the customer.... coffee is only provided at breakfast? fire should be lit in winter months during day....

Review 64:location

Review 65:Duvet on bed to thin(was a very cold night) Could not adjust heater in room

Review 66:Personalized note Complimentary brownies Size of room Cleanliness Welcoming staff Vibrant feel

Review 67:The adjacent building is am awful eyesore with smashed windows and a derelict appearance. Needs to be tidied up or hidden somehow.

Review 68:Clean and modern. Great location. Room was warm. Bed comfortable .

Review 69:should have asked for a lower bunk. I was in a shared dorm and on a top bunk. only a small complaint though.

Review 70:Central location friendly staff value for money

Review 71:No complaints. We loved it there, and would come back again

Review 72:Staff friendly and went out of their way to help us feel comfortable. We loved room 301 with the view of the river and sat out on the balcony. Everything was great

Review 73:I found the waitress super efficient and not relaxed or perhapsauthentic. I wondered if she was a member of the management covering - aposition she would be excellent at. I mean no offence.

Review 74:It's many years since I've stayed at a hostel. I was delightedThe Rowen Tree had an en suite accommodation. The dining and cookingarea was bright and clean and friendly. People comfortably preparinganything from full Irish breakfasts to mouth watering steaks at night! Iloved the complementary scones they left out for us. Yummy and homely! The restaurant was very pleasant, nicely decorated ( even a littlegrand) and food there excellent.

Review 75:mirror not good faulty look when we were looking in mirror self service washing up the dishes time for checking out too early

Review 76:Quiet clean room- size of the room bed good central, a piece of cake on the bed

Review 77:For us the price was fine..but others used to hostel prices would find the rates more expensive than usual

Review 78:Clean spacious rooms, lovely restaurant in the building, great staff, access to kitchen & laundry made this a great stopover to get to the Cliffs of Mohr

Review 79:Ideal for us as we were on a budget but still want a very good standard of cleanliness, convenience and comfort. There was a fantastic restaurant attached to the hostel which served delicious food from a wide-ranging menu.

Review 80:That we arrived late in the evening, around 10.00 pm, and that the cafe adjacent was closed for food. It's tourist season in Ireland there should be some food, even if only a limited choice, available later in the evening.

Review 81:Good location and friendly staff

Review 82:The make-your-own continental breakfast. I didn't mind that, nor did I mind washing my own plates and cups, but was not enthused watching pre-teen boys washing up their own plates...without soap and possibly hot water:)

Review 83:The value, the location, the beautifully appointed rooms with their TALL ceilings, and the pleasant, friendly staff.

Review 84:Everything, the staff where amazing, the resturant is excellent and good value for money, everyone is so welcoming at Rowan Tree, you can see it is a very popular hostel, simply by the amount of people who were staying every night! Suits all ages, from young to old!

Review 85:Not Applicable

Review 86:Great staff, very friendly and willing to help me in anything I needed. Great location, clean, comfortable and large (and clean) kitchen was a plus!

Review 87:Loved everything about it! Clean, friendly, efficient! They even gave us a free gourmet brownie in our room upon our arrival. Our 2 boys had 6 bunk beds to choose from! Cafe on bottom floor was outstanding. Location was excellent- right on a lovely river. Easy to walk to restaurants and shops. Plus we were able to catch up on laundry as machines were available on site. I would stay here again if we travel to this part of Ireland (& would look forward to it).

Review 88:Location and staff made the stay a pleasure. Parking locally was easy and theres plenty to do in town.

Review 89:Recommendable hostal, fulfilling the normal standards!
