Reviews for Old Ground Hotel
Review 1:If I could fault anything it would be the bathrooms. Stayed several times and they all have the same problems. . .the finer things like the grouting of the tiles is dirty and chipped and under the sinks is unfinished, can be seen when lying in the tub. Like I said just small things that look dirty. And I'm afraid most will have to agree about the parking.
Review 2:Staff are the biggest plus. Comfortable and welcoming, will be back again.
Review 3:Breakfast started too late for us - we had to leave to catch an early flight on Sunday morning without breakfast Room rate is a little high No alarm call facility mentioned in info book
Review 4:The bedroom was great The food in both the pub and the Tower was excellent Free wifi (an absolute must have)
Review 5:The Parkinglot is an absolut Nightmare as it seems there's also loads of non-Guests parking there so you might have to wait a while until you can actually find a parking Spot.
Review 6:Great Hotel in an unbeatable Location. If you stay there, don't miss out on having a meal in the fabulous Townhall. The room was grand and very comfy.
Review 7:Parking on premises is sometimes difficult to find. This might be improved somehow.
Review 8:Staff very efficient and friendly, very comfortable room and situated in town centre.
Review 9:Lovely hotel very central location An glan Excellent staff Bialann alainn -Town hall Highly recommend this hotel to anyone Ostan iontach ar fad.
Review 10:The wifi was atrocious and there is almost nowhere to plug in a laptop in the lounge areas as most of the plugs are of the old circular type. Parking was at a premium as townspeople appear to use the hotel carpark for visits to the town.
Review 11:The room was a treat. The overall ambience of the hotel and staff was excellant. Breakfast was great.
Review 12:Excellent location and facilities. Lovely food and rooms were very comfortable and roomy. The lounges were great to relax and chat with friends rather than having to sit in room. Wonderful
Review 13:We couldnt find anything we didnt like - will definitely be back
Review 14:Its so friendly and cosy - lots of nooks and crannies - great bar and good bar food all reasonably priced.
Review 15:The food in the bar is not great .A truly horrible 'tossed' salad with my fish and chips. Sodden with dressing and freezing cold.
Review 16:The bedroom was gorgeous. Loads of hot water for nice long baths!
Review 17:The car park is very awkward to park in. Also the rooms were very hot so it was hard to sleep at times.
Review 18:Staff were fantastic-very helpful and polite. Location brilliant. Pub lovely and food great.
Review 19:There was noise of water flowing from 5 15am until 7am it may have guests up early having showers we were in room 418
Review 20:Convient good athmosphere lovely food would love to stay again
Review 21:When we checked in we were informed that a meal was included so we booked the restaurant and short 105 euro to be told it wasn't included. We didn't think a meal was included in the first place so it was very annoying.
Review 22:Our room. King suite
Review 23:very helpful and considerate staff, great bar and so central for everything and they do a great breakfast. Good memories. If I have to stay in Ennis again then this is the place for me
Review 24:The room was a budget room and the heating was not working. The Bathroom whilst clean was a bit grubby and in need of updating. The mirror in the bathroom had not been cleaned for some time properly as someone had put a message on the mirror which was visible when it steamed up. The TV was not working properly.
Review 25:We have stayed many times in the property and in general we were happy. This was our least favorite room see reasons.
Review 26:On Saturday evening the bar was over crowded. This may be the Hotel's "problem of success"
Review 27:The traditional music in the bar. This is why I stay here.
Review 28:Limited parking available.
Review 29:Very spacious rooms with great decor looked like it had recently been refurbished. Excellent location in the heart of Ennis.
Review 30:Parking lot adjacent to hotel, but it is difficult to find an open space -- very limited space.
Review 31:Lovely space in a fine location to city center. Great access to restaurants.
Review 32:Nothing we didn't like
Review 33:The atmosphere was brilliant and the staff were excellent. The room was fabulous and the bed extremely comfortable. Will definitely be back again.
Review 34:Our room and location in the building seemed a bit tired and not as updated as other sections.
Review 35:Room was comfortable and adequate for our needs while touring the area. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 36:Car parking quite limited, very cramped and often FULL. Overflow car park employed. Some key cards did not work (in two sets). I'd never pay this in the UK. £ 165 for 2 nights.
Review 37:Location is very good. UpMarket but a little dated.
Review 38:Room too warm, no ability to adjust temperature yourself. Asking reception to turn hearing off made no difference .
Review 39:Location . Great pub And restaurNt on site.
Review 40:inside doors to rooms are difficult with luggage and slam closed when passing through LOUD bang
Review 41:location , cozy surrounding sitting areas grounds around the hotel
Review 42:The booking ad said breakfast was included. It was not unless you made special arrangements or a different type of booking (not sure which; didn't bother to figure it out).
Review 43:The location was absolutely perfect. The room was nice. The hotel was beautiful. The staff was awesome. If you are staying in Ennis, you should choose this place.
Review 44:Nothing. It was great
Review 45:We had a delux double which had wonderful space and comfort! The view from the window was the only downside. It was of the roof. But who books a room to look out a window?
Review 46:Ambience and feel of the hotel upon arrival: upgraded to a lovely room which was such a nice surprise. Location was wonderful and great to have such a pleasant garden/patio to enjoy. Staff at reception were excellent. Overall noticed staff very efficient and hardworking. Loved the Town Hall and great value for money: overall the food was excellent. would return for a visit again and also recommend to my friends/family
Review 47:We didn't find parking difficult as we just followed along what I believe was the main road. However, if others type in the hotel address it may not direct them to the parking. Possibly worth stating on the website.
Review 48:Staff was extremely professional and polite. Very impressed with the service considering there was a wedding party also being attended to.
Review 49:Parking on Saturday night was very crowded but we were able to park at school next door. No view from our window in room 316. Breakfast wasnt included and no bathtub in out room.
Review 50:Great Staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Clean and classy facility Beautiful setting very easy to get to SNN for morning flight back to states.
Review 51:Safe to say there was nothing I didn't like.
Review 52:Excellent one night stay at this hotel. It's quiet, comfortable and has lots of character . Food in the bar was good ,very busy but the staff were very quick to get a table for us . Very central location in town. Will visit again and have no problem reccommending this hotel.
Review 53:The shape of the room was a little odd.
Review 54:The staff were very friendly and helpful and were fantastic at breakfast. The location was great and good ambience.
Review 55:Excellent accommodation. Superb food in the main restaurant, and in the adjacent Town Hall ( part of the hotel). The bar food for casual dining is exceptional.
Review 56:This is a very old and shabby hotel with decrepit corridors and carpets. Very bad price quality relationship. Booked a bigger and therefore more expensive room (139 euros without breakfast) and got and old and not very clean room, with a smelling old bath and no confort at all, and overlooking a car park and a loud factory.
Review 57:Nothing. Everything was old and shabby.
Review 58:Breakfast very expensive for ur typical Irish breakfast, very warm an stuffy in bedroom, unfortunately Road works going on while we dare which woke us very early but dat that was just bad luck obviously not da hotels fault
Review 59:Da bed very comfortable da bar food was excellent location perfect
Review 60:When we arrived We were informed we had been upgraded to a deluxe room with kingsize bed for free... However room was disappointingly small with 2 single beds...I queried this and told they must have separated the kingsize bed(originally 2 single beds joined) either way we were disappointed with room size ... didn't think it was value for money either as no breakfast included ... had an option of going to nearby hotel for nearly half the price and really feel we should have done this
Review 61:Location
Review 62:Room located next to carpark and didn't like the breakfast
Review 63:Our room was beautiful loved the bath bed was so comfy nearly didn't want to leave it ! Pleasant staff and nice pub food
Review 64:Didn't have a bad experience, but as an observation you might value. We booked a twin room. Got a room with a double & single bed. However, the single bed was very close to the bathroom (just about walking space between bed and bathroom door). It could be very "uncomfortable" for both the person using the toilet and the person in the single bed. Also, each time (during the night) that one of the party uses the bathroom it shines the bright light across the pillows of the bed which could disturb a light sleeper. If there were two people in the double bed then the person in the single bed would not have a bedside locker (no room to fit one between the bathroom and single bed).
Review 65:Cleanliness, location overall atmosphere, food, friendliness.
Review 66:The friendly staff. The elegant rooms - spacious and spotlessly clean. The restaurant - good food & great service. The bar - excellent Guinness. The location. This is a great hotel
Review 67:The staff. The food and the service in the restaurant, breakfast and lunch. The rooms, decor, comfort and cleanliness. Even the quality of the free toiletries! Location. The bar - best pint of Guiness in Ireland!
Review 68:Nil
Review 69:I am a regular visitor to the Old Ground as my husband is from Ennis and this is one of best hotels in Ireland in my opinion. Food is excellent & I love the Town Hall as an option for food instead of restaurant. The rooms are of a very good standard and certain rooms excellent. The staff are all very friendly and capable and I love the music in the bar. Location second to none across from best shops in town, Nozomi and County Boutique.
Review 70:The town of Ennis was quaint but just a pub crawl at night.
Review 71:The location of this hotel was close to our activities for the day, about 20 minutes from the Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty castle. The hotel itself is quiet with luxurious decor and beautiful gardens.
Review 72:Moved in the Poet's bar nest to a crafty door & the band! Asked by the manger, we agreed, but didn't reckon we got any kind of good deal in the process
Review 73:The location
Review 74:- Wifi could have been better. Sites took a bit long to load and connection would drop. Nice that it was available as we did stay in some that only had wifi in public areas or not at all. - only place we stayed in that required key card in a slot by the door to connect power. Awesome feature and maybe standard but certainly didn't know about it and stumbled around a bit trying to figure it out.
Review 75:Staff was great! Very helpful and informative! Food in both associated restaurants was good. Loved the vintage feel of the building. Parking was easy, and I'm not used to European driving either! Would stay there again.
Review 76:Wall must have been very thin as there was alot of noise from the corridors early in the morning.
Review 77:Very comfortable room and very comfortable beds. We ate there on both nights of our stay and the food was absolutely fantastic.
Review 78:crazy hot rooms at night - even in April
Review 79:Good location for Ennis. Used it as a stop between the Ring of Kerry and Dublin because we wanted to stay in a random small-ish town.
Review 80:The bathroom was too small and the shower only knew on or off. And 'on' was 100 miles an hour. Would have been nice to have a fridge in the room.
Review 81:Fabulously huge room. Comfy beds and pillows. Gorgeous sitting areas downstairs. Loved that the barstaff would deliver wine and glasses to hotel areas.
Review 82:Only one small gripe is that there was a wait to find a parking space.
Review 83:Lovely comfortable bed, nice hotel, really helpful staff. Would definitely return.
Review 84:Parking is a bit messy. We got a spot in the carpark but there were signs referring to clamping in operation. I asked at reception and was told the car would be fine once in the carpark. I walked outside and saw another car clamped so went back and asked another receptionist and was told a different story and she subsequently took my car reg. Close! A fitness room and pool would be nice but not essential.
Review 85:Great location, very central. Rooms were really nice and spacious. Food was excellent, 2 nice restaurants onsite. Bar had traditional music at night and hurling on TV next day. A great breakfast to top it off. Happy days!
Review 86:Shower head was not optimally positioned.
Review 87:Excellent dinner, the sea bass was amazing. breakfast had healthy options like Baked Portobello Mushroom with Tomato, Basil, Baked Inagh Goats Cheese & Toasted Pine Nuts
Review 88:parking..had difficulty getting parking at times and had to wait for someone else to leave a space
Review 89:the hotel was very central..the rooms were very comfortable, the bed was huge, great for a good nights sleep..the hotel bar was very lively and had music friday and sat night..
Review 90:Not many parking spaces available in the grounds. Lighting in the room is pretty bad which wasn't great for getting ready to go out in the evenings.
Review 91:Loved the room, clean and spacious. Staff are really nice and helpful.Pub served great food
Review 92:Old Ground is an old and very comfortable hotel in the center of Ennis. The room was large and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant (Town Hall Bistro) were very good. Especially enjoyed taking our drinks into the residents lounge and relaxing in front of the fireplace on a cold, windy evening!
Review 93:The toilet roll holder was broken and the cleaning staff cleaned the rooms beside us at 9am in the morning. The hoover banged against the walls and what seemed like inside a wardrobe, very loudly.Mentioned it to the reception staff on checkout. Very nice staff and apologised for the inconvenience.
Review 94:A complimentary bowl of fruit left in our room as I had informed the hotel that we were celebrating my husbands birthday.
Review 95:I thought that the shower was hard to operate and it took a long time for the water to heat up. There wasn't enough towels for two people either, only one bath towel... I was also a little disappointed with the room size. I had paid for an upgrade and thought the room was more of a standard room....and unfortunately we both found the room a bit cold when we arrived.
Review 96:The food was outstanding. We attended a family wedding in the Maguire suite and I've never eaten wedding fare like it. Totally amazing.
Review 97:We had dinner in the town hall. The management let fund raisers in singing and shaking buckets at us. I thought it was distasteful and I was uncomfortable. Also at breakfast next morning very rude waiter. Seemed to be French. Had a get together with my family in October and had the same experience with him. Just plain rude and unfriendly.
Review 98:Having to wait for a table in the bar area due to high level of footfall. As a guest of the hotel maybe there could be some sort of priority seating area even if just a small area, for guests.
Review 99:The staff were incredibly helpful at all times.
Review 100:Car parking very cramped
Review 101:Comfortable rooms, very clean, friendly staff, food excellent, very comfortable residents' lounge, location excellent.
Review 102:TV reception not great. Big deal!
Review 103:Everything except that I could only stay one night. Real old-fashioned genteel hotel. Delightful front of house and bar staff. Beautiful room with comfy bed, loads of hot water for a bath. Couldn't fault the place. Right in the center of town and walking distance from station. Looking forward to an excuse to visit Ennis again.
Review 104:Friendliness of staff, homely ambience and comfort, like a home from home with no domestic responsibility. Few minor issues like tv not working and fire alarm going off in error but were well compensated with offer of upgrade to suite and complimentary breakfast
Review 105:Not able to purchase food in bar @ 9PM on a Wednesday night. If you advertise as a full service hotel, provide basic services such as food to your guests.
Review 106:Very little not to like Perhaps a bottle of water in the hotel bedroom as per normal. Breakfast included with accommodation would be better deal as not great value to pay for breakfast - however was lovely to be able to avail of breakfast in town instead
Review 107:Warmth, comfort and relaxed setting of hotel. Quiet of bedroom in spite of being a busy weekend. Food in bar delicious, service excellent, following night restaurant equally excellent. Facility of car parking at all times available.
Review 108:We sleep with the window open and it was very noisy at times, from what we believe is an outdoor smoking area for their pub. Really disturbed our sleep. Breakfast is not worth the price, its OK if its included in your room price. Ours was not. We would not pay for it separately.
Review 109:The location is excellent, across the road from the pro cathedral and around the corner from O'Connell Street ( where I lived from 1944-1949), which is the main street. Walking distance to the Cloisters, if its not raining, which it frequently is. The Cloisters is an excellent restaurant, serving lunch and dinner, seven days a week.. Hotel rooms are large, have a safe and the wi-fi is a reasonable speed and is included in the room rate, as is parking.
Review 110:Older large rooms can be chilly as heating is on a timer. First time in one of these rooms so would request one with air con. It did compensate with lovely view of Cathedral however!
Review 111:Third return visit to see relatives and we choose Old Ground for it's good food, especially Town Hall and sited in perfect location. Always welcoming Summer or Winter.
Review 112:Couldn't fault it as we had a very enjoyable stay, only wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 113:Very comfortable hotel with lots of character. Old without being stuffy. Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Perfect location. Staff were friendly and helpful, particularly at reception.
Review 114:The bathrooms were dated though clean lacked investment.
Review 115:We ate in the Town Hall Restaurant part of the Hotel and the food ambience and general level of service was excellent. I have through business eaten in many restaurants in Ireland and abroad and I would rate this as one of my top 5. The waitress could not have been more helpful and attentive without being intrusive. We did not eat Breakfast in the Hotel as from previous experience it is not good value. For an excellent breakfast in Ennis go to the tesco shopping centre and eat in the Sherwood Inn at half the price and excellent service.
Review 116:I like the Old Ground. It has old world charm and feels Irish not corporate. We have stayed there many times when traveling on the West coast. It is in town and easy to walk to dining and shopping
Review 117:The car parking was hopeless. Guests were unable to park nearby as people using the bar and restaurants seemed to have priority. We were anxious for the safety of our hired vehicle due to the rough behaviour non residents.
Review 118:Almost everything.
Review 119:Fixtures and fittings need a review. Tired in areas with old TV. One damp bed in our room. Food in Poets Corner less than average. Quiche and chicken Kiev with 'plastic chips' served in 3 mins post order??? Odd
Review 120:Location, history/features/atmosphere of building and excellent staff!
Review 121:Mold on the inside cover of the electric tea kettle in the room was very off putting.
Review 122:The location is ideal for walking around town. The staff was very friendly, and the food in the bar was good.
Review 123:Charged more than quoted on booking.com by a substantial amount. No parking!!!!! Pillows weren't nice and bed was marginal. Tiny elevator and we were on the top floor.
Review 124:Staff-breakfast- adjoining pub
Review 125:We had problems with the air conditioning but, had we stayed longer, we are sure that would have been resolved promptly. We enjoy a more rural setting but for a town base parking access etc were good.
Review 126:The staff were great. The staff & the food at The Town Hall Restaurant were terrific. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the hotel & at the Town Hall restaurant. Their service was above & beyond what would be expected. A place to stay at again for a town break & for getting to the airport.
Review 127:The common areas show their age a bit. The exterior is beautiful, and the rooms are fine. The beds are serviceable, but could use an upgrade.
Review 128:The staff were amazing: cordial, friendly and flexible. When my son was under the weather, they brought breakfast to his room without even being asked; they found a new room for us when a nearby outdoor concert was a bit noisy for our taste.
Review 129:I did not like the bathtub which was difficult to get in and out of without scraping my foot. It was also difficult to get the right temperature of shower water without getting too hot or cold water on us. We didn't like the price charged for breakfast so did not take it.
Review 130:I liked the welcome we got and the decor.
Review 131:Parking behind the hotel was a bit crammed but we did get a space.
Review 132:The reception staff, although quite busy, were warmly welcoming. We arrived later than expected and the dining room stayed open so we could have some dinner. The meal was excellent and our waitress very accommodating. Our rooms were comfortable and quiet and breakfast the next morning very nice. We regretted not having time to enjoy the lovely courtyard behind the hotel. Hotel conveniently located for walking around Ennis.
Review 133:Trying to gt through traffic to get there, but was waling distance to centre.
Review 134:Great food, staff, prompt action on requests location etc. Would recommend.
Review 135:Some of chairs in room looked a little shabby/dirty Other than that nothing
Review 136:Room large Good choice of restaurants Pub very good with entertainment Nice quiet seating areas away from reception Nice and quiet Great location
Review 137:used by many tour groups which crowded lobby with selves and luggage; buses and cars jammed parking lot; furniture and room seemed tired and worn.
Review 138:room was spacious
