Reviews for Villa Valguarnera
Review 1:The Villa is one of the most beautiful Sicilian architecture examples. With such a historical importans, everyone should experience this unique opportunity to feel, to hear and to stay over. The family is more then welcoming and pleasant. We are all very looking forward to go back.
Review 2:First of all, the photos of booking of the rooms weren't the real rooms. The house equipment was really poor. We got a lot of mosquito bites and ir was very annoying. We had to open the Windows because there weren't air conditioner and it gets really hot even at night. At the end there was a lot of insects inside.
Review 3:The surroundings are beautiful and the staff were very nice and helpful, they helped us with the problems that we had with our car.
Review 4:For those who need modern comforts such as airconditioner and sleek interior design, this rather rustic accommodation may not be to your taste. For those who are sensitive to the heat, it may also be unsuitable, as the accommodation can get hot during a baking Sicilian summer - we remedied this with fans, which the hosts were happy to lend us.
Review 5:We thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to stay in the grounds of a magnificent, historical villa, which is now being restored by Marco and Anthea, a charming, gracious and warm young Italian couple who inherited it. Villa Valguernera has history dating back 300 years, but it has been closed to the public until very recently. The present owners now rent out 2-3 small flats, in the grounds surrounding the villa, to tourists. The accommodation is rustic but spacious. We visited in early August, in the middle of a baking Sicilian summer, so the rooms can get swelteringly hot - but this can be remedied with the use of a couple of fans. Other than the heat, the accommodation itself was fairly comfortable. The shower functioned well with good pressure (combo of overhead and hand shower); and we slept well with two tower fans provided by the hosts. WIFI was actually surprisingly good, considering the remote location. Whilst we enjoyed our time here, it may not suit those who cannot do without modern comforts such as aircon, modern furniture, etc. But we found that the charm of the hosts and of the magnificent villa - which has breathtaking views of the sea behind and the mountains in front - make this villa a memorable destination. The couple have exciting and ambitious plans for the resort, and we would very much like to go back in a couple of years to visit again! Bagheria itself does not have a great deal to offer tourists - but there is one excellent local restaurant, and a nice nautical club nearby which you can access for sunbathing and swimming in the sea. The hosts will be happy to tell you about both. Bagheria makes a nice stop off when driving west from Taormina/ Cefalu along the nothern coast to Palermo or Trapani. We would recommend it for 1-2 nights.
Review 6:no wi-fi in the room, just outside the building
Review 7:Very exciting and unusual place with a flavor of real sicilian mafia. Nice, clean, with plenty of space and very helpful staff.
Review 8:Wonderful stay at this historic house. Fantastic hospitality from Marco and his family. We marveled at the history and bravery surrounding the Villa and the fantastic efforts being made against the odds to restore it. This is an experience not to be missed if yo have any interest at all in history of just want a quiet very away from everything holiday. Bravo!
Review 9:Wonderful to see a glorious family villa that is being restored & opened into a guest house. Marco and his wife are just so lovely and made our stay most pleasant. We would recommend staying here.
Review 10:The villa is under renovation and some of the building materials are stocked in the apartment's front courtyard. Not a problem for us though.
Review 11:Filippo, the caretaker of the property was very helpful and friendly Marco was friendly and welcoming. In the morning he showed us around the noble floor of the villa, giving a lot of information on the history and the future of the villa, which is being restored. The apartment is charming although it is not in the villa but in one of the surrounding buildings. It was possible to accommodate the six of us, two adults and four kids between 11 and 17 years old. It is a good alternative to staying in Palermo, when arriving from Genova in the evening with a car. The apartment is in a quiet enormous park. It is a nice 10 minutes walk to get to the town center, the set of the Baaria movie by Tornatore.
Review 12:Nothing.
Review 13:The wonderful location and the history of the family. For not Europeanpeople an immersive experience in understanding (or not understanding)Mediterrenean culture and complexity.
Review 14:A bit rustic.
Review 15:Villa Valguarnera has its own Wikipedia entry. The apartment comes with a traditional, blue-tiled kitchen where you’ll find a basket of fresh produce upon arrival —all of it grown on the grounds of the Villa. breathtaking view of the Gulf of Palermo from the top of the hill behind the house.
Review 16:Marco and his wife were incredible hosts and the villa was absolutely stunning.
Review 17:Small shower
Review 18:Staying in a really special place
