Hotel Gasthof zur Post

Hotel Gasthof zur Post descritpion
This traditional, family-run hotel is located in the heart of the picturesque town of St. Gilgen, only a few steps from the shore of Lake Wolfgang.
Recently renovated and enlarged, Hotel Gasthof zur Post was built in 1330 and flor a long time served as a coaching inn. The foundation and parts of the façade are from the Middle Ages. The building's special charm is reflected in its massive stone walls and floors, the traditional basements and vaults, and the precious wall paintings.
At the Gasthof zur Post you can experience the very special atmosphere of a traditional ambiance combined with innovative design. Classic elements such as green loden, a great deal of wood and deer antlers are integrated into the rooms in an original way. Many rooms feature impressive open bathrooms.
Enjoy a rich selection of delicious regional and Austrian specialties, traditional fare and seasonal delicacies such as asparagus. The freshly caught fish from Lake Wolfgang is especially popular. All ingredients come from the Salzkammergut region.
Over the years Gasthof zur Post has hosted many famous personalities. In August 1784 the wedding of Mozart's sister Anna Maria, nicknamed “Nannerl”, took place here.

Reviews for Hotel Gasthof zur Post
Review 1:Too expensive, because there is not much choice there.
Review 2:Great hotel with excellent facilities and staff. Location is great, sauna is good, rooms are new and well designed.
Review 3:It is desirable if the hotel could improve the exhaust system of the kitchen. It is possible to fill the smell of food cooking in several areas of the hotel
Review 4:The location, the room, breakfast and the staff
Review 5:A tad expensive and I would have liked more variety for breakfast.
Review 6:The place was the perfect blend of traditional and modern. It had a very welcoming, traditional feel to it and some great decor. But the room we stayed in also felt very modern and nice. The relaxation room in particular was an amazing spot.
Review 7:Central location. Friendly helpful staff. Beautiful spacious comfortable and spotlessly clean room. Superb food in the restaurant for dinner. Great breakfast spread.
Review 8:friendly staff, nice clean spacious room with balcony. To the lake only 3 mins walking. had a nice dinner with good service, and breakfast can have more variety.
Review 9:I liked the location and the room. I did not eat in the hotel, except for breakfast, but there were at least two restaurants nearby that served excellent food.
Review 10:room was very hot so we kept the balcony doors open. Slightly disconcerting glazed bathroom, which though nicely daylighted as a result, had no privacy frosting so when one opened the shower one was in full view of neighbours across the street. Would have liked a kettle to be supplied too.
Review 11:great staff, wonderful food in dining room
Review 12:There was nothing that we could fault for our stay at Gasthof zur Post. Our only recommendation would be that they could provide more information regarding hotel facilities and local attractions in the rooms.
Review 13:This was the perfect setting for our week long trip to Wolfgangsee - the hotel is minutes walk to the lake which is ideal for days out walking and cycling. The hotel is fantastic, dating back to medieval times but tastefully modernised while still maintaining original features. Our room was modern and spacious with a high quality of cleanliness. It is a family run business and the level of service and friendliness is beyond compare; we felt completely at home at all times. The restaurant served excellent food for both the buffet style breakfast and evening meals. Saunas are available for guests and adjoining is a relaxation room and terrace which overlooks the town and lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning - we would highly recommend it.

Review 23:The location of this hotel is perfect.
Review 24:Everything
Review 25:The rate is a bit too expensive for the level of the hotel. And I did not like they charge it per person, whereas booking.com showed it as a room rate.
Review 26:I liked the hotel's cozy atmosphere.
Review 27:Loved staying here - very cozy, great staff, perfect base to explore the Salzkammergut region. Not a neg, but note that the reception desk is not staffed 24 hrs.
