Reviews for Hotel-Garni Schernthaner

Review 1:Absolutely stunning, location close to shops, lake and easy access to mountain lifts. The coffee shop below the hotel is a must visit, the owner is so friendly and made us very welcome. The staff / owner of the hotel - very helpful and friendly, plenty of information available for trips in the local area. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 2:due to lack of snow at the time we stayed, most of the places were not opened. In fact Strobl was a ghost town!

Review 3:Perfectly situated if you are arriving by public transport. Lady at the reception was very helpful

Review 4:We stayed in this beautiful little hotel three years ago and did not hesitate to book it again for this holiday. It is in a perfect location for the Christmas markets, restaurants and the cable car to the Zwölferhorn. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the hostess so friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is delightful.

Review 5:- simple bright modern and clean toilet - spacious room with balcony that comes with good view - delicious breakfast at cosy corner near the recep - sweet decoration around the room isle & corner

Review 6:The bed was a bit hard for our liking, but would suit others fine I would think. Our stay in St Gilgan came after some city time including a week in Paris and shorter stays in Dijon and Salzberg, So we were quite surprised that this was our first room where noise was an issue. I wouldn't say it was bad, but there is quite a busy road (he main road leading to Salzberg) which runs past the rear of the hotel. If you have a lake view I wouldn't think it would impact you at all, but if you go for the mountain view it is worth mentioning.

Review 7:We found this charming little hotel suited us very well. The room was of a decent size for a hotel and there was a small table and chairs so if you wanted to get a take away meal there would be a comfortable place to eat it. The wi-fi was quite acceptable. The breakfast was very good for a small hotel with no associated restaurant. The location was convenient for the bus station, which was in easy walking distance, as well as the town itself. The staff are very pleasant and speak quite good English.

Review 8:None

Review 9:Everything is perfect.Location is good that youcan walk to the busbahnhof in 5 minutes and 10 minutes to the pier. The host is a very good person with helpful suggestions and patient to teach you how to use everything in your room. She could solve every problems in time. And everyday she has sunshine smiles!Breakfast is also good!Food is variety and fresh, coffee and tea is hot !I dound no weakness!

Review 10:Know that St. Gilgen is a small town and that only two restaurants were opened after 8pm.

Review 11:- Location (great base for day trip to Salzburg, Hallstatt, Dachstein, and more) - Wifi worked great! - The owner was extremely friendly - Spacious room - Clean room - Generous breakfast with local meat, cheese and bread. - Free parking

Review 12:It was very good and comfortable place. The hotel is very beautiful with various flowers and the owner is very nice. I'd like to go there with my husband again.

Review 13:Can be noisey if room in front with street noise when tour buses arrive & just people talking in the street sound carried up. Also person near us smoked on balcony& smoke came into our room. Very thin walls in room could hear people in next room talking.

Review 14:Loved listening to the church bells but you better be an early riser. Views of the lake in a very pretty town. Great breakfast.

Review 15:Beautiful small village by lake. Hotel has plenty of character and charm. Stone's throw from lovely restaurants and bars, but quiet. We found it a bit tricky to find but, once there, we loved it. Value for money is exceptional.

Review 16:Noisy people in the room next door. The walls are thin so people should be aware of this if they are up early.

Review 17:The staff was very accommodating & very nice. It was wonderful to be provided with good bikes to ride around the village or around the lake. It was also nice to see all the homely touches around the hotel which you don't see in bigger chain hotels. Also, we had a lovely balcony & view :)

Review 18:st Gilgen was an excellent base for a range of activities, whether water based e.g ferry to st wolfgang, walking, access to cable cars to go up mountains

Review 19:Nothing!

Review 20:One of the best hotels during our 12 day trip. V cozy room and many considerate settings. We received v warm welcome and felt we were at home. Perfect location, close to bus station and supermarket. V wonderful breakfast. Many thanks to the Lady!

Review 21:they were having a heat wave and no air conditioning-but that was an unusual circumstance-very cool at night

Review 22:location, location. very quaint but comfortable-staff so friendly and helpful-would stay there again-really enjoyed the town

Review 23:Nothing not to like.

Review 24:We loved the friendly cheerful atmosphere of the hotel, as cosy and comfortable as your perfect home. We had a great view from the balcony facing the lake and it was just a short walk to both the ships and the funicular. We arrived by bus, and the stop is just around the corner. We particularly appreciated a hand-made personal card on our breakfast table. Keeping it as a souvenir.

Review 25:No A/C or fan and it got hot in the room when it was over +30 C. The main road was a bit disturbing if you had the windows open.

Review 26:Nice and helpful sfaff in beautiful St Gilgen. Nice balcony and bathroom. Big and clean room. Close to cable car and bus stop to Salzburg.

Review 27:No restaurant in the hotel and St Gilgen is very, very quiet on a Sunday evening so eating places were limited. No air conditioning but this was not an issue for us when we stayed (June).

Review 28:Clean! Traditionally decorated with some interesting antique furniture and ornaments. Lady manager was friendly and accommodating. Comfortable bed with view of the lake. Nice bathroom. Good breakfast. Small, but nice, balcony. Some parking facilities are available. Would recommend.

Review 29:Breakfast was poor and limited. Pls give more choice than a boiled egg thin slices of cheese, ham and some cereals and standard bread

Review 30:Staff friendly. Location . Room nice and clean. Nice kitchenette for family

Review 31:There was nothing to dislike, other than very quiet in the evening in St Gilgen as some bars were closed, but it was their end of season.

Review 32:Nice clean hotel, friendly owner, free bikes, really enjoyed our break.

Review 33:Nothing

Review 34:The hotel is in a perfect location, walking distance to the lake. The atmosphere was very caring and super friendly. We felt very much at home.

Review 35:I stayed a year ago with my daughter and this was such a nice experience that the decision was quickly taken to return to this same place for a relaxing short stay on my own. I can only repeat myself: a warm welcome, hotel staff that is passionate about making your stay a positive experience. Very clean rooms, all staff is very friendly. Austrian breakfast, very rich choice. If you won't like this hotel, then I'm not sure if a 5 star hotel would please you either.

Review 36:No electric tea kettle in room- would have been much appreciated. Other than that, there was nothing left to be desired!

Review 37:The personal feel of the attention to guests from the staff, comfortable rooms and beds, tasty & filling breakfast, cozy hotel, lots of personal touches and surprises at Christmastime :)

Review 38:I would've preferred a different view, but I'm not really complaining--I loved the place. Parking was cramped.

Review 39:I can't begin to tell you you how nice the proprietor was, yet without being annoyingly nice. Our room with balcony was a good size for the family--they put a single bed across the bottom of our double. You're right in town and next to the lift. This was a good value. Thumbs up all around.

Review 40:The breakfast is just so so, though the dining room is very lovely.

Review 41:The location is great, near the cable and bus station. The hotel has an elevator which is good for travelers with huge luggage. Ask for a room with mountain view balcony. They do not have kettles in the room but you can borrow one from the reception.

Review 42:None.

Review 43:I stayed for 4 nights as if I were at home! I always enjoy its atmosphere. I'm sure to visit again, because I'd like to enjoy the great panorama again and to chat with the great mother!

Review 44:Of course, nothing is perfect. However, it would be picky in the extreme for me to find fault with this lovely place.

Review 45:If you go to Austria, don't stay in a large chain hotel. Come to a place like this and prepare to be greeted with a handshake and a smile. In my opinion, a hotel like this is what Austria is all about. Small friendly and welcoming.

Review 46:We had asked for a room with view to the mountains and we really got that! We had a fantastic view to the mountains and lake Wolfgang from the room's balkony. The staff at the hotel was very kind and helpful and together with the fantastic weather we really enjoyed our stay in St. Gilgen.

Review 47:The only thing I didn't like was That I couldn't stay longer. It was our first time to this area and there was so much to see and do. We could easily have spent more time We will definitely return here I am sure !

Review 48:We have traveled all over for over 30 years . This is the first time my husband said make sure you rate that place five star for everything !! I must agree with him the location of the place was great . The rooms ambiance comfort and cleanliness terrific . The owner and her son could not have been more gracious and helpful in suggesting side trips great experiences and restaurants. Breakfast was delicious and varied. Honestly can not praise this one too much DEFINITELY A WINNER !

Review 49:A nice hotel in a very nice area. Mrs Eisl is very kind and friendly. We were satisfied with the room, parking, breakfast. We loved design of the hotel, it was pleasant to spend our time in the hotel.

Review 50:The double room was good but in the single room, the bed was a bit slanted on one side. The matress needs to be turned over or replaced.

Review 51:It was close to the bus stop from Salzburg. The hostess of this hotel was very welcoming. A restaurant nearby(Gasthof zur Post) was very good but packed on the first day so we had to dine at another restaurant that was so-so. The next day we went there and a kind of porkchop with mashedpotato was very tasty.

Review 52:Old fashioned facilities Room did not have a bath £90 B&B felt on the high side for this type of hotel

Review 53:Convenient location for village centre and good car park Clean Good breakfast Quaint traditional fittings

Review 54:Its a great cozy place.. We spent one night at this hotel.. The hotelowner is really wonderful and was so friendly. This hotrl has its ownfree parking place.

Review 55:A warm welcome when we arrived; the staff were very helpful during our visit. Our room was of a good standard including a good sized balcony and was very comfortable . The hotel also had a parking area for our motorcycle . The location of the hotel for us was very good. A short walk from the cable car and just a five minute walk from the lake. The town of St Gilgen is wonderful and is well worth a visit.
