Reviews for Dekeling Hotel
Review 1:Most dishonest and unethical hotel. On 25th Dec they told us lies after lies that they would not be able to honor our booking and that they are providing a better hotel , in lieu of this, which is costlier but far away. Had I wanted to book a costlier hotel I could have easily booked one ( previous night we stayed in Windermere). The reason for booking this hotel is that it is situated in a strategic location and we wanted to enjoy the city on Christmas Day with our friends rather than sitting in a luxury hilltop resort. But they told that they are sorry that they could not honor our booking and sent us to their resort far away. The hotel has got more money from some other tourist and gave away our room to them. I will get in touch with booking.com to refund or take punitive action against this hotel. Such was their greed for money that they told lie that people in those rooms could not check out because of ill health. When I visited the hotel the same day without revealing my identity then I figured out during conversation that no one has fallen sick.
Review 2:Great location with really friendly staff and fabulous views (I had an attic room). Can walk to most local places of interest from here and very tasty restaurant belonging to hotel, Dekevas, on ground floor. Family run with members who were extremely helpful during my weeks stay.
Review 3:The location is very convenient, but it is in the middle of town, with all the accompanying noise and pollution.
Review 4:The breakfast staff was really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast room was lovely and had a gorgeous view.
Review 5:I really liked this hotel. Like a lot of Darjeeling, there's a degree of faded elegance about it, but the staff were lovely people. The breakfast lounge is very informal and has the most amazing views out over Darjeeling. The sofas there would be a great place to chill out in the afternoon if you had the time.
Review 6:The stairs get you puffing
Review 7:The Dekeling was in a great location to get around - close to restaurants and shops. The staff were great and organised a trek for us and looked after our luggage while we were away. There are comfortable spots to sit and enjoy.
Review 8:Steep steps up to hotel reception,
Review 9:Lovely location with fantastic views from some rooms and particularly the lounge. Wood burning stove in communal lounge which made it very cosy. Hostess very friendly and all staff helpful and knowledgable. Would definitely recommend
Review 10:1) The shower did not work 2) The room was too cold (maybe the heater worked slowly) 3) It is not particularly comfortable (especially for elders) to climb up 3 or 4 storeys every time one needs to enter the hotel. 4) No view of Kanchenjungha or any natural scenery of darjeeling at all from the super deluxe room we had booked; very disappointed. 5) The hotel has a veg restaurant; hence delivers only veg food to rooms. That was quite disappointing.
Review 11:1) Helpful and attentive staff 2) Great room service
Review 12:It was a little difficult adjusting the water temperature in the shower. It was either too hot or too cold. Also, they don't provide shampoo or conditioner.
Review 13:The mountain views and the friendly staff were the best part of our stay.
Review 14:It would be nice if food is served in room... But nevermind.
Review 15:Excellent front desk and staff, overall. They help you even with trivial issues. Very warm hospitality. Marvelous location. And lots more!
Review 16:We had a room beside the Reception without a view. The Mountains view was missing and we paid the same price as people havimg a Mountains view. The owner likes to make business. She was not a good help and she tried to cheat us with the jeep.
Review 17:The Lounge is great.
Review 18:Service at breakfast time was patchy
Review 19:View from lounge & room was stunning. Owner was able to arrange special opening of Himalayan & Tibet museum on day it was officially closed
Review 20:Digestive gas from restaurant cuisine. Advice on shared taxi should have been go to cart road.
Review 21:Easy walk up hill. Nice local restaurants, excellent food and value. Excellent company, I didn't eat alone.
Review 22:Everything was great but its the stairs one has to climb but it has nothing to do with the awesome hotel as you expect this kind of building in the hilly areas.
Review 23:It was an awesome time spending in the Dekeling Hotel during the stay in Darjeeling. The view from room A3 is breathtaking. The hotel staff is very helpful. The owner Mrs. Deveka is a very nice lady and goes out of the box to keep the guest more than happy. Thank you for gifting darjeeling a packet of darjeeling tea and the complimentary teas in the morning. We wanted to stay more but will definitely stay here whenever we visit darjeeling.
Review 24:Bathrooms are not very big, quite cramped.
Review 25:Wonderful view, great location (middle of town), close to shops and pubs, friendly and helpful staff. Almost feels like staying in a fairytale.
Review 26:too small rooms. delux rooms have view of garbage lane. no hot water was available as their geaser got unserviceable. no one was at the reception early morning to address all issues.
Review 27:location. centre of the town.
Review 28:Limited menu for break fast. Non availability of Power back up
Review 29:The location of resort & view from it is excellent. Free drop & pick up from City Center.
Review 30:The climb of 70 stairs. Nd they should have newspapers at evry floor. Also, more staff for housekeeping.
Review 31:To begin with...the owners..Mrs nd Mr Norbu are superb hosts..who personally take care of their guests..ensuring the comfort and safety. The hotel has a lounge with a wonderful view, it is located centrally.
Review 32:Deluxe rooms open towards road side & are very noisy due to continuous noise from road side vehicles.I changed my room to a super deluxe immediately after checking in the Deluxe room.
Review 33:Hospitality of the staff , & there attentiveness for the guest
Review 34:The room was a little damp.
Review 35:The location of the hotel was great, right in the centre of Darjeeling. We had the top floor corner room with a magnificent view of the mountains, when the cloud cover lifted.
Review 36:Nothing. But curpet may need to clean little bit more.
Review 37:The location of the hotel, view of valley,Kanchenjunga was excellent from room 101. Hotel is near to mal Max 3-4 min walk. All staff of hotel and restaurant was really helpful. Owner of the hotel really nice, she herself come and see off us. I must not forget to mention two guys name Lokesh (restaurant) Gabind (hotel) they are very nice and careing. For sightseeing you can talk to only hotel staff who are at helpdesk not other person. I will visit again.
Review 38:The staff were excellent and so helpful. The hotel is very clean and also features a beautiful lounge room with wonderful far-reaching views. Loved the wooden theme throughout, very tasteful.
Review 39:Wifi does not wirk in the rooms, or very seldom. You have to be in the lobby to have good connection... Dedicated network for rooms does not work properly. When you need to plan the rest of your trip, that's pretty unpleasant.
Review 40:Clean, nice rooms. Helpful staff. Convenient location.
Review 41:Too many flights of stairs to climb, the room was not made up or cleaned, the rear side rooms are gloomy, inconsistent wifi (generally a problem with Darjeeling ISP's)
Review 42:Location, location location, general attitude and behaviour of staff, well appointed rooms at very good value for money
Review 43:The wifi was horrible, some of the very worst we experienced in India -- and that's saying a lot. The hotel staff did not respond to email and and a result we ended up booked in a more deluxe room than we wanted -- even though it was clear the less expensive rooms were not full when we arrived. The super deluxe room had VERY LOW ceilings, especially in the bathroom with the shower installed at chest height.
Review 44:The location and building are great. The hotel has lots of reading nooks and the breakfast room has large rooms with views of the city and mountains. Everything is clean, cozy and warm.
Review 45:Don't have any lift instead the stairs are very stiff, room Service's not that prompt due to lack of people, didn't accept card and(plz carry cash coz nearer ATM machines are crowded or not working)
Review 46:Breakfast's Gr8 including free Wi-Fi facility within the reception area, nice location with panoramic view very nearer to taxi stand and the famous Mall....
Review 47:We took the super delux room, but it did not have a good view of the hills. The lobby is the place to go, but the staff didn't tell us about it until the last day.
Review 48:Very good location, clean place, helpful staff.
Review 49:They do not have a restaurant so no room-service or dine-in so better to goto Glenary's or KFC which is nearby. The reception is mostly without anyone so you have to wait a while before they tell you that their credit card machine does not work & have to pay by cash which is quite disappointing. The room which should be given to a young couple was not taken into consideration & we were given a room just beside the lobby. The hotel is more than a couple of stairways above so be ready to have a workout.I booked this hotel only for a night as we were to stay at Viceroy & Elgin later so were not so worried.
Review 50:The staff at check-out were courteous & gave us a blessed goodbye.Room was clean.
Review 51:I was surprised our rooms wasn't serviced, ie bed made every day. However that's not a deal breaker and didn't detract from our stay. If you our a lite sleeper, our room (A4) had a lot of street noise. In staying that to have the view and cozy feel our room had. I would request that room again.
Review 52:I liked the view from our room. I particularily liked the warm cozy feel of our room.
Review 53:the hot shower would be malfunction sometimes, actually I did not enjoy it while my staying there.
Review 54:The hotel is nice and clean located in the place near shops
Review 55:- spartan bathroom with poor shower -long climb up from street
Review 56:- charming and friendly owner - great views from the hotel - attractive public lounges - excellent central location
Review 57:nothing - it was all lovely...!
Review 58:The atmosphere and ambience is peaceful and homely - nothing is too much trouble for the staff, especially the charming owners.
Review 59:We stayed three nights and found the hotel to be quite adequate. The location is very central and the views from the breakfast room are stunning. Notwithstanding that I would recommend going out for breakfast ( there are lots of options nearby) as the hotel breakfast is overpriced for what they offer. Not recommended for those who find four flights of steps (70) to the Hotel reception a bit much!
Review 60:The room in which we stayed had a very strong cigarette smell. The previous person had been clearly smoking. It would be great if they made it a non-smoking area.
Review 61:The staff was incredibly helpful and charming. they were so kind and always made sure we were comfortable, going the extra mile with food, extra towels, and other needs.
Review 62:There is a fair climb from the road up many steps (though our cases were carried by the staff!). In February it was cold and the bedroom heater was of limited help, though once in bed, we slept quite well.
Review 63:The views from the sitting room and our bedroom were wonderful. It was cold when we were there (Feb 2015) but there is a stove in the sitting room which made for cosy evenings. We were well looked after and our host looked after us well.
Review 64:Wi-fi was very slow and kept dropping connection anywhere in the hotel - both my room and common areas.
Review 65:Great rooms, great location within Darjeeling, clean throughout, hot water and water pressure was good, front desk was very helpful - helped me book a taxi to Bagdogra Airport, check-in and checkout was seamless, very welcoming upon arrival with tea and a discount and free gift upon departure, and reservations with booking.com was wonderful.
Review 66:Having to leave
Review 67:We arrived as tourists and left feeling like friends.one of the best hotels we have stayed in.the owners are exceptional people who radiate kindness.
Review 68:No significant complaints.
Review 69:Hotel is ideally situated with very warm cozy beds. Easy to meet fellow travelers during breakfast. Comfortable, clean, and friendly. Extremely good value for money.
Review 70:The hotel has such huge number of stairs , that one loses the breadth while climbing. The reception is most unfriendly , the rooms are damp , the furnishing is old . The service poor. Even tea takes one hour to be served.
Review 71:Nothing whatsoever.
Review 72:I was unseasonably cold when we were in Darjeeling, and the room was occasionally cold
Review 73:Generous with clean towels. Tea Lounge warm and cozy Good view of he mounains
Review 74:The rooms were a bit expensive and that's why we stayed the 2nd and 3rd night in a slightly cheaper room in the attic where the air is full with damp dust (tapestry on the floor), but there was a nice atmosphere. The laundry service is also a bit overpriced and on checkout the credit card machine didn't work (nor did the ATM's in Darjeeling), which cost us the extra bank fee and thus the money we saved moving to a cheaper room. So bring enough cash!
Review 75:The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is very nice and there are several nice living rooms where a cold night can be spend!
Review 76:DeLux rooms don't have heating even when it was cold during our stay. Room is moldy, especially bathroom.
Review 77:The hotel offer trekking guide service as well, we had a fantastic guide for a short one day trekking near Darjeeling. We were offered a ftee upgrade for theroom
Review 78:Very clean and comfortable. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Right in the heart of town. Quite but not serene. Interior is characterful with comfortable social areas and great views.
Review 79:Difficult to find anything we didn't like. But if we were being picky we might say our bed was very narrow and because we were in one of the attic rooms ( advantage great view) the shower was so low my husband had problems.
Review 80:Location within 10 minutes walk of central town is ideal. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. ambience of hotel is warm and welcoming. Our attic room had a wonderful view, but because of the weather, not of the mountains! Attached restaurant, tasty for, great atmosphere.
Review 81:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner was cordial and made the stay very comfortable. The location is perfect! I have to go back on business and plan to stay at Dekeling again!
Review 82:Shower only had two temperatures, scalding hot or freezing cold. Rooms were quite cold.
Review 83:Good location in the centre of Darjeeling. Good value for money. Helpful staff. Great views from the rooms and two large communal areas. Hotel decor was lovely and gave a great little atmopshere to the place. Located above a good restaurant.
Review 84:Walls are thin--I suffered the loud snoring from the man next door for three nights.... Internet was iffy. Very weak signal
Review 85:Location...uninterupted views across the city and right across to the high Himalayas. The hotel lounge was very dramatic with seats by the picture windows. Nice place to relax and meet people. Lady owner was very friendly--it was a nice touch to give departing guests a sample of Darjeeling tea...
Review 86:The cost was very high for India. Clothes were damp after being in room for short time. Tours and taxis that are priced by the hotel are far Korea expensive than the one on the street with minimal haggling.
Review 87:Staff were excellent, very friendly and always will try to help as much as possible. Views were superb from the common rooms and roof. Central location so easy to access the town. Very clean. Meet lots of other nice people.
Review 88:The hotel is situated in the upper storey of the building which houses different hotels & restaurants. The guests especially matured and old one become breathless till they reach to their room. Hence it is suggested to the hotel management to have lift facility.
Review 89:The hospitality shown by the owner lady was excellent. She takes personal interest and pains to make the stay of the guest comfortable & enjoyable.
Review 90:Wifi doesn´t really work in at least some of the rooms. Lots of stairs, an elderly lady I was travelling with couldn't cope and had to change hotels.
Review 91:Location is excellent, as well as the staff. Everyone is helpful and the owners give all guest a personal welcome. Large and cozy common areas.
Review 92:This hotel states wifi in all areas - however the wifi did not reach all rooms. Many stairs up to the hotel.
Review 93:The beautiful soft beds, friendly staff and proximity to shops and restaurants. The view was phenomenal too. Good value for money.
Review 94:Nobody prepared us for the among of stairs to climb to rich the hotel and the rooms. And there is no lift !!
Review 95:The hotel is nice and cosy, the food is good and the big living room full of books in the upper part is a nice place to rest after a day of visit
Review 96:Staff were wonderful, friendly abd helpful. Room and hotel were very homely and cozy. Biggest plus and surprise was the incredible views over darjeeling abd mountains. Location was excellent!
Review 97:Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Review 101:Staff terrific.
Review 102:Absence of north indian cuisine.
Review 103:Location of the property and the hospitality of its staff is excellent. Owner of the property is very gentle.
Review 104:Nil
Review 105:Nothing to dislike about Dekeling. Earlier reviewers have said it all. If I returned to Darjeeling I would stay there again.
Review 106:No lift. Had to carry the luggage 2 floors which was very difficult
