Reviews for Mayfair Darjeeling

Review 1:Happy to pay for massage service in spa, but did not expect to pay for use of steam room, which in all hotels I have previously stayed in, has been free to residents. Would also have liked a little more plain English food items on dinner menu.

Review 2:The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 3:At the time of confirmation, the receptionist said that a porter (coolie) would be provided to collect luggage. However, on the day of checking in, we had to make our own arrangements as the hotel failed and refused to send a porter. At the time of check out, we were made to wait as three different staff from housekeeping came to check and confirm the whereabouts of three clothes hangers. As frequent travellers, we have resided at the very best of hotels and to be "politely" accused of taking hangers from the room was a very sad and disappointing end to a pleasant stay.

Review 4:We liked the location and accessibility of the hotel. Overall, the old historical look and its history appealed to us. Reception and restaurant staff were pleasant and helpful.

Review 5:Toiletteries of very average standard. Food at the main dining room very average for the tariff and pricing of menu. Standard of breakfast was again "nothing to write home about". On the whole the hotel could prop up most of its services on offer to match its tariff and meet the standard expected.

Review 6:Nice layout of property. Staff responded to requests and complaints.

Review 7:Bed was too fluffy and wi-fi was paid. Nowadays every hotel / resort is giving wi-fi free.

Review 8:We liked location /interior/designing and service of this property

Review 9:My Vodafone 3G hardly worked. The signal is very poor and only voice was available in my cell phone and no data. My cell phone was loaded with gigabyte worth of data which was useless during my visit. A hotel of such quality should provide free wifi. Internet is universally inexpensive. And any hotel trying to skim money from guests doesn't deserve repeat visit and customer loyalty.

Review 10:From arrival to departure this hotel is amazing. The staff are highly trained and very courteous. The room is spacious and comfortable. Bathroom is clean with tasteful contemporary fixtures. Breakfast was good but other than chicken sausage, vegetarian. Dinner buffet also had only one non veg item. I ordered A la carte for rest of my stay, the menu is extensive and the food quality is outstanding. If you don't want to worry about anything and simply want to enjoy your stay, look no further.

Review 11:Breakfast menu not great for int'l customers. Restaurant staff not very attentive and a bit slow. Price-level way too high compared to many other good hotels we have stayed in in India. I absolutely hate having to pay for WiFi in any hotel (and even more so in this one when paying 12,000 INR/night for the room!)

Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff Convenient location (but no great view...) and well-kept buildings and grounds.

Review 13:Wifi didn't work the whole time. One staff member took the tip money we had left for housekeeping. They put us in room at the top of the steps, which was very noisy with kids running around constantly.

Review 14:Nice hotel. Excellent staff. Food was good.

Review 15:Honestly found nothing.

Review 16:Good ambience, friendly staff at the Reception and last but not the least good quality food deserves special mention. Mr Ankan at the restaurant deserves special mention. He is a gem. Overall Mayfair Darjeeling deserves 9.9/10.

Review 17:Except for WiFi, which was not available during the entire stay ( a blessing in disguise) but then not the property's fault as the Telco provider had a system failure.

Review 18:Look and feel, very Colonial feel heritage property Proximity to some of the best sights to see around Darjeeling, almost all are walking distance (Chowrasa, Kanchenjunga view point, Mahakal temple, HMI and Zoo, Keventers) Great food, amazing Chef Kailash The property itself was immaculately maintained

Review 19:I liked everything, but not to blame management, I was disappointed when I couldn't extend my stay in the hotel due to unavailability of rooms beyond my reservation.

Review 20:Right from infrastructure to services, everything is excellent. The best resort in all aspects in Darjeeling.

Review 21:the room given was very very horrible the bath room lock was not working after giving complain they replied that hotel is full very bad exp no hot water given hot water in bucket

Review 44:they r cheat

Review 45:Tarrif

Review 46:Hopeless attitude

Review 47:Very very bad management just wanted to squeeze money, not to be recommended at all. Avoid as far as possible.

Review 48:Staff tries to push first with inferior rooms . As all rooms have different plus points. But staff first push from dingy basement rooms

Review 49:The decor and Ambience is excellent.

Review 50:Forced to take the meals option and tend to over eat. Limited parking.

Review 51:Location. Comfort and decor

Review 52:Very poor service, hotel should be ranked no higher than 2 stars. Receptionist English knowledge is lower-intermediate and in most cases they will be not able to understand the request. Internet is either quite slow or just not working at all (you should be quite lucky to get Skype working). Hot water is quite limited - you have to wait for 20-25 minutes to take shower after previous person if there are 2 of you in the room. Facilities are not very clean, thick layer of dust on top of almost everything in the gym. Average time of waiting for call back from reception or for technical staff is around 60 minutes (up to eternity if you do not remind several times)

Review 53:Architecture and location

Review 54:room is not spacious atall.. they dont refill soaps etc.. food is good on some days bad on others.. fresh air fan in toilet wasn't working.. location is very bad..down a very steep hill. ..rooms have no view..housekeeping is poor.

Review 55:they packed our bfast when we were checking out early, restaurant managers are eager to help .. asks and takes feedback on food.. common areas are well maintained..

Review 56:There is little open space in this hotel, if you discount a hanky sized lawn, a couple of benches and chairs and an upstairs verandah. The hotel was too small for the swarms of extremely noisy tourists who flooded it, screaming children in tow. Mealtimes were a mad scramble -- there were often no vacant tables -- made worse by 'local parties' which occupied one of the two dining rooms on a couple of evenings and rendered them inaccessible to hotel guests. The food was truly inedible: the tasteless greasy concoctions that were part of the buffet were each as unappetising as the other. I would have thought momos and thukpa would make a frequent appearance, but the food was mediocre-level north and west Indian -- in Darjeeling? There was no wifi -- even my own dongle didn't work there. Flies flooded the room in droves (I was on one of the upper rooms so found this even more surprising) if you dared to leave your window open -- and even if you didn't. When I had the room sprayed, the floor was dotted with fly corpses -- which were in the same place even a couple of days later, showing how little cleaning had been done. My shower curtain stank -- and the shower gave me alternate bursts of hot and cold water even though I hadn't requested a sauna...The rooms had no mountain views. The power supply fluctuated all the time, so one had on-offs with their resident generator most evenings. All in all I wondered how they dared charge 12k a night for this. Had the price been less than half that, it might well have been worth it.

Review 57:The only good part was the attentiveness of the waiters, many of whom took a personal interest in the welfare of the guests.

Review 58:For the money we should not have run out of hot water when we took a bath, there was a fireplace in the room but they had an electric heater on instead, it would have been nice for those cold nights to have a fire. The seating for breakfast was too crowded.

Review 59:Library and halls had great local photo collection, lovely heritage hotel with a historical aura, well groomed grounds and cared for buildings.

Review 60:One of the staff created a mess but however the others managed it well, so no grievance much.

Review 61:Darjeeling is a wonderful place, it's a paradise on earth as such it however does not matter much where you stay but however the stay at Mayfair added to the glory and the pleasure of the visit. It was a great

Review 62:Very cold in the cottage rooms. The small electric heaters were not sufficient

Review 63:Service from the restaurant staff Generally, the hotel is beautifully maintained and has beautiful views of the hillside on a clear day

Review 64:- Actual hotel name was "Mayfair Resorts", caused quite a bit of confusion as locals kept telling me there were 2 Mayfair hotels in the town - GPS Coordinates were wrong when I told the staff that it caused quite a bit confusion, they were very very rude. - The shower taps broke when I tried to take shower and flooded the whole place with cold water - TV stopped working the next day - Very expensive food - Heating doesn't work well - Limited hot water Most of the time there was someone trying to fix things and there was not much privacy.

Review 65:Good ambience

Review 66:We just didn't realize the rooms weren't heated, but with the fire, electric heater and hot water bottles, we got along just fine!

Review 67:The service was wonderful, the staff was so accommodating. And the hot water bottles were such a treat!

Review 68:Slightly kitsch decor

Review 69:Peaceful location in a bustling hill town, very friendly and helpful staff. Open fires in bedrooms made them very cosy. Restaurant staff exceptionally friendly and food good with nice variety.

Review 70:Your booking was invalid in this hotel. As they consider this booking was technical mistake. So I have to request resort manager to adjust me .

Review 71:Some rooms at Lower levels have a poor view. The quality of food needs improvement.

Review 72:Friendly staff. Service. Ambience.

Review 73:hot water is a problem in the hotel cause they are using geysers

Review 74:the food was excellent

Review 75:Variety and range of food need to be improved

Review 76:Fire place and person who came every evening to light it with great smile and care.

Review 77:Nothing drastic. The reception staff should up their service quotient

Review 78:Location, ambience of the property and the overall level of hospitality.

Review 79:Great Rooms

Review 80:Less importance for south Indian food items like Rasam, Curd rice, Puttu etc.

Review 81:Hospitality of staff
