Reviews for Windermere Manor Hotel

Review 1:Bathroom was a little cool but it was a great wet room for me.

Review 2:Lovely staff and good food and facilities. Great location for touring the lake district. Lovely and warm! This place is special as it is a Vision hotel and all profits go towards helping the blind. Andrew the manger was brilliant!

Review 3:TV didn't work properly;only 2 channels worked. Staff in restaurant found it difficult to understand me. Overseas lady. Scampi undercooked a little.

Review 4:Location was ideal for my visit to my customer in the morning, Comfortable & Clean. Like the idea of proceeds going to charity.

Review 5:Our room was very dusty and the drain outside our room was broken so it drip all night. Swimming pool area looked like it needed a lick of paint.

Review 6:Staff were good and food was lovely. Our room had a nice view of the lake & the bed was comfy. Nice to use the swimming pool and sauna.

Review 7:The pool area could definitely do with some serious attention. Tiles missing etc. But the pool itself was lovely and warm

Review 8:The gentleman who welcomed us when we checked in was really friendly, with a dry sense of humour. We booked a room with a four poster bed, and the room was lovely. The balcony could do with some work (loose floor tiles), but we didn't really go out much as it was raining. The bed was super comfy, and we were supplied with robes and slippers. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening, but the menu looked good. The housekeepers were friendly, and while we didn't really need much as we'd only been there a night at this point, they wanted to make sure everything was OK and we had everything we needed. Breakfast was the standard full English on the Saturday, but a hot buffet on Sunday. Cereals, juices etc were all available also. It's literally 5 minutes from the town by car, and we were able to park fine. Could be walked if you felt like it as it isn't far. The hotel itself is geared up for blind/partially sighted, and whilst we didn't need any of the services, we witnessed the staff really looking after the guests who needed assistance. Would definitely go again.

Review 9:There was not one aspect of stay we could class as negative.

Review 10:We arrived in rain and darkness and were shown every consideration and given wonderful assistance by all staff to help us settle in. We felt at home. We enjoyed the food, the beds were comfortable, the rooms, including bathrooms were impeccable and staff very helpful.

Review 11:Stayed here twice now in different rooms.. I did not like having to leave this Hotel is fantastic in every way .

Review 12:This Hotel is amazing we stayed in the Superior Annexe for 2 nights had the most fantastic time beautiful surroundings clean very comfortable had our own Garden, breakfast was wonderful and at a bargin price of £80 per night for both of us wonderful ..just a top Hotel would recommend to anyone.

Review 13:Not a bad experience but could have done with heating on during the night for our toddler.

Review 14:Very welcoming and helpful staff, great location and good food. Fab price. Room was made up perfect with extra beds for kids and very good size.

Review 15:The walls are very thin with no sound barrier, and was situated very near the entrance door of which each time someone entered the area woke us up together with very noisy neighbors that did not respect normal time to be quiet - it gave us a night of no sleep- together with the bed needing replacing ( one could feel the mattress springs in it. The breakfast could do with a selection for non pork eaters.

Review 16:The rooms where clean, the hotel well situated

Review 17:Dog hairs (not too many) Maybe a better idea to split rooms into those that accommodate pets and ones for non pet owners

Review 18:The staff is very friendly and support less able people.

Review 19:My friend is little afraid of dog, but the hotel is a vision hotel so... It's raining all the day when we go to travel, there is no bus stop outside so we only can go out by taxi.

Review 20:This hotel is a vision hotel. The room is so big because it's for disable. There is a bar in the hotel, very convenient.

Review 21:This Hotel is absolutley Fantastic i would recommend it to anyone beautiful rooms wonderful views marvelous breakfast wonderful service. One of the best Hotels i have ever stayed at Highly Recommended

Review 22:Heating was only switched on late in the day. Rooms were freezing. unfriendly staff. We were not informed to book for dinner and restaurant staff very unfriendly. No one took our drink order for dinner, we had to go place the order ourselves.

Review 23:Liked to see the hotel catered for visibly impaired.

Review 24:Our room (19) needs to have the grouting on the bathroom floor re-done. The shower curtain fell down as my husband exited the bath!

Review 25:The staff were helpful and friendly. The service in the dining room for dinner was good. Breakfast excellent

Review 26:Very difficult to find this little abode...its tucked away and for new comers not an easy start to locate...maybe put more sign boards? Might not appeal to young holiday makers or business executives? Guessing not sure.

Review 27:Room was spacious and comfortable, very good value and food and service by staff OK.

Review 28:The smell of wet dogs as we walked down the corridor to our room and the face a double bed was 2 singles pushed together

Review 29:Beautiful looking building in nice surroundings

Review 30:No wifi in the room (room 11) only in public areas. Shower took a good five minutes to warm up before I could use it. I didn't like the radio on when eating in the restaurant, I found it over stimulating and irritating. i wrote an email explaining it was my mothers birthday and if they could make a fuss of her, it never happened. no swimming before 09:30 so never got to use the pool. I would have swam before breakfast, before heading out to enjoy the lakes for the day. I found this an expensive stay compared to other hotels in the area. expensive drinks at the bar, spoilt the experience.

Review 31:We like staying at this hotel as we always find it friendly, relaxing and clean they cater for dogs by providing contalners for water and food comfortable dog bed and towels for drying on wet days. The guest breakfast are very good.

Review 32:Very run down, the pool area was a disgrace, the lady doing the cleaning let the extension lead go into the pool when we were swimming in it!!! While I was in the bath I could see thick black scum under the rim of the toilet. We had a phone call that a family member had been rushed into hospital and we had to leave early, we explained this to the man on reception but when we looked at our bank they had taken full payment even though we had only stayed there for five hours, not overnight and of course we didn't have breakfast, bad customer service

Review 33:The location was good

Review 34:Dislikes, NONE.

Review 35:Our experience at the hotel was excellent, The staff were very friendly and helpful, Would recommend to anyone, Great value, very clean and tidy, Many thanks to all at the hotel.

Review 36:None

Review 37:We were upgraded to the bungalow for our wedding anniversary,a very pleasant surprise. As usual the staff were excellent, as were the facilities. Cannot praise the whole experience other than excellent.

Review 38:The room was outstanding with French windows onto a patio area. Extra large bathroom with separate bath and shower. Bathrobe, slippers, bottled water, tea and coffee all supplied free. They even provided an umbrella. Staff were outstanding, nothing was to much trouble for them. Will definitely be returning.

Review 39:Was disappointed with the pool area need of desparate renovation and general cleanliness

Review 40:Breakfast and the building and grounds pleasant and staff helpful

Review 41:Run down, poor decor, crumbling plaster walls around pool, musty smells, poor food in restaurant in evening, poor choice of meals in bar. Definitely not value for money

Review 42:Breakfast was good

Review 43:the room was a nice size but I think the carpets need a good clean but due to weather couldn't be helped. Also there was some mould on the wall in the bathroom that just needs a lick of paint. Overall though the stay was lovely.

Review 44:The food was very nice. The personal request of flowers and wine was perfect and the flowers were beautiful. The shower was amazing.

Review 45:No WiFi in rooms even though advertised throughout the hotel. Lockers inpool area did not lock, belongings were not safe. Rest of staff could bemore friendly and approachable. The view from our room was bad, all wecould see was either a tree or the fire escape.

Review 46:The bed, very comfortable Very filling tasty breakfast One friendlyreceptionist and one friendly server.

Review 47:thought the price was a bit on the steep side to be honest, but enjoyed my stay.

Review 48:I stopped in number 36 cottage and was very nice and commutable, the room was very clean and could not fault it, the breakfast was very nice and was well worth getting up for, staff wear kind and helpful,

Review 49:The hallways really smell of dried urine and wet dogs. Our shower was broken for the duration of our 2 day stay so had to wash out of the bath tap.

Review 50:The staff are chirpy and helpful. Parking was easy. Outside of the building is grand.

Review 51:Swimming pool area needs attention as well as the changing rooms. Staff could know a bit more about the surrounding area not just local knowledge.

Review 52:Location was excellent. Swimming pool. Breakfast was good.

Review 53:VERY uncomfortable bed. Breakfast is served between 8 and 10am, this means get there early otherwise you will be eating rock hard bacon, toast and croissants...

Review 54:polite staff

Review 55:Some areas of the hotel needed redecorating (painting and plastering). Swimming pool was good but the areas around it were very run down and in desperate need of re-plastering!!!!

Review 56:The food was fab! Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The room was fabulous and bed was very comfy.

Review 57:The carpet in the room was dirty and full of stains. The location with regards distance to lake is misleading as it is a good 20 minute walk to Windermere centre and 30-40 minute walk to Bowness.

Review 58:Pleasant staff. Comfortable bed. Lots of character throughout the building.

Review 59:We are in restaurant first night of our stay, ordered 3 courses for £16 a head! Food was ok but frozen roast potatoes?? Sure it all came from Iceland. Second night we tried again! Just as bad :(... Room had cobwebs you could hang self from! Took one look at pool and decided against! Just looked filthy!

Review 60:Friendly staff on reception and waitress was very kind. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice

Review 61:first room had no view just a brick wall.but we asked to be moved which was fine.I didnt know when I booked that it was a hotel for the blind,it was fine but didnt relise while booking.

Review 62:breakfast was brill, room was comfortable.

Review 63:It wasn't a double bed, but two singles pushed together. Can be very annoying when they move !

Review 64:The room and hotel grounds were beautiful. We were very pleased to have a balcony with such a lovely view. The breakfast was delicious and we had lots of fun playing with the outdoor chess board !

Review 65:The entrance to the Manor could be better sign posted as address on web site didnt give clear directions and satnav couldnt find it. Also gardens could do with some tlc.

Review 66:The cottage was such a different experience , along with the old manor and the grounds.

Review 67:Parts of the hotel are a little "tired" and in need of some smartening up.

Review 68:Friendly, helpful staff. Decent breakfast in a pleasant conservatory room. Good location just a 25 minute walk in to Bowness.

Review 69:Only once or twice we had to wait for someone to service at the bar, as they were dealing with customers in the dinning room.

Review 70:The staff, rooms, breakfast, grounds

Review 71:Paid for a view; there is no view, staff member said we've had this complaint before; told us to move to one side of balcony! We would have had to move to side of balcony and then stood on one person's shoulder while standing on the railing to maybe get a glimpse of the lake. Very disappointing and overpriced. Ironically, they do good work for people with vision impairments so perhaps just drop the scam of the view, be honest! Also, guests not able to utilise or even visit pool when lessons are being held!

Review 72:Apart from the lack of promised view and the distance to town and difficulty finding it, the rest was good!

Review 73:Hotel was very unclean and very dated compared to similar hotels within the area. Definately would not recommend.

Review 74:The only good thing about this hotel is that it is a short 10 minute walk to the town centre.

Review 75:No general information and wfi instructions in the room. Usually you find a file with hotel phone numbers, and other details.

Review 76:Good service at breakfast.

Review 77:It is a little bit disappointed that can not bring dog to the breakfast room.

Review 78:Best service for pets friendly hotel! my little doggy really love it! Very thoughtful and nice little touch for the dog, Good environment, clean and tidy room, we will definitely come back next time!

Review 79:It was the most beautiful little cottage we have stayed in in Windermere! Absolute perfection with a lovely patio doors with a view of the lake! Loved every minute of the stay.

Review 80:Hotel dirty, window never closed, swimming pool looked really dirty, safe was fine but also looked like they could do with a good shower but was poilite

Review 81:Outside looked beautiful, breakfast was of good quality

Review 82:Nothing

Review 83:Stayed at one of the rooms in the Lodge.Loved the bed, very comfy. The bath was huge and plenty of hot water. The food in the restarant was delicious. Great hotel.

Review 84:The hotel was very warm as I walked up the second set of stairs up to the 2nd floor, and an unusual smell on the first floor landing. The swimming pool area was not in great condition, and the changing area was not very nice or did not feel very private.

Review 85:The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The

Review 86:Staff were not the best moral seems to be a problem there. No razor socket in Room.Reception and bar staff in particular.

Review 87:The Bed and warmth of our room very comfortable.

Review 88:Just needs a little money spending on the decor. Lots of lovely woodwork upstairs which could do with some tlc.

Review 89:Friendly staff and old country charm. Lovely grounds. Great food in the restaurant at very reasonable prices.

Review 90:We had breakfast included with our stay, it was fine but a bit basic.

Review 91:The staff are very welcoming, the hotel was clean(a little bit dated in the entrance and landing areas).but overall a nice hotel.

Review 92:The facilities are maybe a little dated but this is perhaps not surprising in an older property which is perhaps more difficult and expensive to maintain. All considered the price we paid was good value for the the location and our experience of it.

Review 93:Excellent location, enough car parking, friendly and helpful staff

Review 94:We have stayed before, we find they have cut down on staff, help your self breakfast not good, for £140 per night and 4pm check in

Review 95:Location and accomadation in Bradley house cottages.

Review 96:The flush on the toilet in the ensuite was not working well. This really needs attention.

Review 97:Lovely large room, very nicely decorated, with a settee too! It was quiet, no traffic noise, lovely grounds/garden. The staff were very helpful, the atmosphere in the hotel was very positive.

Review 98:arrived at 3pm...the receptionist greeted us with a 'you cant check in until 4, you'll have to wait. no good afternoon, nothing. bathroom smelt of urine, breakfast was just terrible, glad we went out in the evening to eat.

Review 99:leaving

Review 100:Trying to find it initially was difficult perhaps signposts earlier on the road would help as the entrance on Rayrigg Road is easily missed.

Review 101:Lovely peaceful location but close to town and routes to explore the lakes. Staff very friendly and helpful, the inside is in keeping with the age of the building, so don't change it.

Review 102:Being woken up at mid night / wednesday morning by water from the room above coming through the ceiling...the night porter was brilliant in sorting this out...but it would have been nice to have had an apology from the guests in that room and the hotel management...we also would like to point out that the parking at the cottages could be better...our car was blocked in on a couple of occasions.....why can't people park in the allocated area..

Review 103:Loved the location and the up grade to the cottages.

Review 104:Think there could be a menu on the table at breakfast so you now you can order fried eggs or other things that are not on the buffet table or grill

Review 105:The staff were really friendly couldn't do enough for you considering it was a non profit making hotel I think they do a wonderful job . Could do with a bit more charity or lottery money to do certain parts of the hotel up like the ( pool area )

Review 106:We loved our stay! It was just so beautiful and the most friendliest people ever work there. Rooms were super cute. Hotel is kept to a high standards. We just enjoyed ourselves very much! Thank you. Would be staying again for sure!

Review 107:The bed was two single beds pushed together my partner and I couldn't cuddle as we kept sliding inbetween them towards the floor

Review 108:Your staff were fantastic

Review 109:Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant for breakfast or dinner. We complained and the manager Andrew laid out a table in the bar lounge. Thanks Andrew! :-)

Review 110:Warm welcome, free parking, view of lake from room, dog bed and towels, clean bathroom, toiletries, tea coffee kettle, hot buffet breakfast.

Review 111:The hotel is dated and the room smelt of damp dog, the main carpark is too small meaning I had to park out the back away from the hotel

Review 112:Free wifi was good and the location was also good

Review 113:The reception is not welcoming needs to be brighter. We were directed to the lift but was off putting as it was in need of repIr and decorTion

Review 114:The location is ideal for a relaxing holiday. Only stayed one night and the room was large and comfortable.

Review 115:I received a confirmation email from booking.com that my room had been reserved. When I was on the way and only about one hour away from the hotel, I got a call from the hotel to say that there was absolutely no room available. No nearby alternative was suggested and I had to pull into motorway services to go online and search for an available hotel. This hotel was still showing up as having single rooms available.

Review 116:Beautiful Old Manor House, The building's original features make up for tired wallpapers in corridors.

Review 117:The staff were extremely good, Very attentive, Breakfast delicious, Sorry girls lost paper with your names on, but we highly recommend travellers to the Windemere Manor Hotel. Will stay again if in area. Loved our stay in Four Poster with Balcony.

Review 118:Being asked to leave the pool because there was a children's swimming lesson about to start, which we weren't told about before we got in.

Review 119:The room was very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was delicious. Good accessibly to both Windermere and Bowness.

Review 120:WiFi did not work. TV very small with green line on screen.

Review 121:The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Bathroom very big. Service at breakfast very good and choice of food good.

Review 122:For what we paid, expected a bit more. Room could've done with some carpet cleaning, and a good spring clean

Review 123:Location was great, staff very friendly and breakfast for lovely.

Review 124:Spacious rooms, very clean. Great facilities and exceptionally dog friendly with provision made for exercise, bowls and beds supplied. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was great and can't beat the location. Overall, outstanding value for money.

Review 125:The bar on the first evening had no draught beer. I therefore did not go back to the bar on the remaining days. The WiFi in the annexe was terrible.

Review 126:The room in the annexe was very good with the outside patio. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 127:The carpet and chairs in my room were badly stained and the room smelt very bad, the corridors were musty too so guessing some of the other rooms were in the same condition as mine

Review 128:camera outside the bathroom window. Excessive noise from guests in room above, during the evening, having been asked to quieten down at 10:20pm they proceeded to continually be heavily walking up and down from 3:00am onwards, therefore sleep was very much disturbed and we had to miss the breakfast being up too late to get it. This, for us, ruined what would otherwise have been a very enjoyable stay.

Review 129:Fantastic room, good location

Review 130:Noisy fan / extractor from inside the wardrobe of room 18. was on late and came on again in the morning. Not a deal breaker but annoying none the less. Hotel a little tired in places.

Review 131:Very close to the centre of Windermere. Easy walking distance, or straight onto the road to head further afield. Parking OK, too. Wifi actually worked in the room.

Review 132:The smell of room number 15 as it's located above the kitchen, it was very hot and smelt of a deep fat fryer

Review 133:The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the hotel was very accommodating for our 2doggies

Review 134:In comparison to many other hotels in the area of similar price, I feel the hotel could benefit with a little update. The breakfast room seemed also a little out of date and some new furniture would be nice to see. The breakfast itself was pretty poor for what is meant to be a good hotel. I have experience far better in Blackpool at £25p/n!!

Review 135:The room was very clean and pleasant. Great that there was free WiFi available. The pool was also good and available for use after normal hours.

Review 136:Swimming pool - such a poor facilities, no changing room, no shower facilities. Had a booking for double bed but in fact we had 3 singles beds in our room, smelly bathroom, and also no bath facilities as advertised

Review 137:Size of the room

Review 138:A couple of the main meals were not adequate. The pork steaks and lamb steak was tough. The coffee that was served to my mother after the meal was luke warm. When we complained it was heated up rather than a fresh one made.

Review 139:The location, the rooms where good and that you catered for a wide range of people. Problems where dealt with very well.

Review 140:Hotel was old fashioned in décor and in need of some care in upkeep. The hotel was a vision hotel that I had not been aware of when booking hence guide dogs and blind people in hotel. I booked for luxury break not time with dogs it did not fulfil my expectations at all.

Review 141:Location . grounds of hotel well kept.Initial sight of hotel well impressed.
