Reviews for Pentland Hotel

Review 1:Toilet water level bit up so didn't like... feels disgusting about such toilet seats

Review 2:Breakfast and staff were very good...all else nice besides toilet seat high level water

Review 3:Staff in bar unattentive and spend much time in a huddle chatting at evening meal time. I was served by four different people. Logistically, it is a guddle. Menu uninspiring, so many positions most of it must come out of the freezer/microwave. Should focus on quality seasonal ingredients this area produces. Coffee at breakfast is instant spooned into a pot with hot water. Room poorly maintained, gap between glass in window and frame and heating in room had been turned off on arrival when it was freezing outside.

Review 4:Wifi throughout the hotel works well. Breakfast time staff friendly and more customer focussed - such a difference from the evenings.

Review 5:Decoration in the rooms is looking a bit tired.

Review 6:Comfortable beds - clean rooms. Excellent breakfasts - efficient staff. Coal effect fire in the lounge was wonderful!

Review 7:The staff were very helpful and friendly . I messed up my original booking but they were only too happy to help . When they knew the reason for my stay ...a family funeral ..they were genuinely sympathetic and kind .

Review 8:This hotel used to be the best in Thurso - not any more. Very dated and shabby. In room: Peeling wallpaper; carpet door tread bar bent upwards causing a trip hazard; old fashioned shower head / tap unit but without shower mount on wall; no shower curtain; no extractor fan in en-suite. Generally: Stair carpet worn through on treads; peeling wallpaper; marks on wallpaper showing where pictures USED to be; no lift for infirm or disabled. Food: Average. Had to return dish as it was not what had been ordered. Cost: Considering the above, far too dear. Twice (per night) as I had paid in an excellent Premier Inn at Edinburgh Airport earlier in the week.

Review 9:All staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 10:No elevators! Make sure you get a first floor room if you have issues with stairs because it's only one set you have to do! Would like better parking.

Review 11:The rooms were very nice! The restaurant was wonderful!!!!

Review 12:First mornings breakfast was buffet which was a bit lukewarm however second morning was freshly cooked so much better Room was small and could do with refurbishing

Review 13:Evening meal was delicious and very friendly staff . Central location for our needs and relaxing hotel.

Review 14:Staff could smile a bit. Wasn't that they were unfriendly just not happy! Bit pricey for what it was.

Review 15:Location was ideal and it was adequate for our one night stay.

Review 16:The breakfast was cold and dehydrated. The room was full of mold and dirty.

Review 17:The staff were friendly enough but on several occasions were too busy talking to each other and not paying attention to who needed serving

Review 18:Asked for a quiet room and got a room opposite building site. However, room was spacious and as we were out all day the noise did not spoil our stay.

Review 19:Location for bus transport. Food was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 20:Our room. However, we understand that the hotel is under new management (a local family) who are starting to renovate it. Don't be put-off by our experience as things will improve.

Review 21:The meals. Breakfast especially

Review 22:Very tired and needing a lot of updating and there is only street parking (when you can get it)

Review 23:The Hotel was nicely located within the town and very convenient for the shops. The Breakfast was excellent.

Review 24:Too close main road very noisy we had to change to a smaller room at the back to get away from the road and the noise from building site opposite the hotel

Review 25:Very little a very dated building

Review 26:The staff are very friendly. Super friendly with pet. Although the night was very busy due to the hotel was booked for an event, Dale helped us a lot during the busy time.

Review 27:The bed in the double room is not very comfortable. Kettle had no power lead we could find. Single room was damp, cold, smelling.

Review 28:We had a double room and bed was average but acceptable. Tv good wifi good.

Review 29:Young staff were friendly enough but didn't seem to have anyone managing them. Shower in room scalding or freezing. Food average.

Review 30:Okay for one night on route to somewhere better.

Review 31:Rooms and en suite needs updating.

Review 32:Staff's very helpful and friendly. The hotel is situated right in the middle of the town. The bar is very good, cosy and liveable.

Review 33:the hotel was dated and a bit run down, they have major plumbing problems.- hot water came out of allthe taps.no cold.

Review 34:It was in a good location, the staf were friendly and helpful

Review 35:This is an old building but it is kept clean and warm. The staff were very friendly and the children finished their meals. Just an overnight stay before catching the ferry but I would definitely use this hotel again

Review 36:Hotel was 'tired' and rooms needed redecoration. No flannels or drinking glasses in room. Replenishment of complimentary tea and coffee in room was not not consistent. Only one chair in a double room (41). Some staff on duty at dinner and breakfast were slow and not interested in thier job, whilst some others were good. Poor selection of wines by the glass. No lift, and no offer to help with luggage. Very dirty windows on exterior in bedroom. Hot buffet breakfast, food luke warm, and often ran out and slow to replenish. Poor quality bread.

Review 37:It was a clean hotel. Food was OK and reasoanbly priced. Wi-fi worked well and was free of charge. Breakfast had selection of fresh fruit. Reception staff friendly and efficient.

Review 38:Creaky floor board and thin walls. Breakfast staff not too friendly nor attentive.

Review 39:Great location and the fact that there was a fire burning in reception. There are ample seating areas in reception and on first floor.

Review 40:It's an old hotel in need of some refurbishing. Creaky floors and worn walls. Looks like some work has begun.

Review 41:Our breakfast hostess was very friendly, cheerful and showed excellent customer service. The Sunday carvery looked excellent. Our breakfasts were very good. Nice to have a bar in the building. Half an hour to the John O'Groat's ferry and bus tour.

Review 42:There is no private car park but there is ample street parking. The staircase to the bedrooms was a bit gloomy.

Review 43:The friendliness of the staff and the comfort of the rooms. The bright friendly Bar/Dining room has an extensive dinner menu and all the food we chose was delicious. At breakfast time (8.30 for us) we found that there were no tables set as the early clients had just left but enthusiastic staff remedied this within minutes and also refreshed the buffet very quickly. Breakfast was a most enjoyable experience. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, better than we expected.

Review 44:don't stay in room 41 or 42 if you want a full nights sleep as the clock tower on the church will keep you awake. Room a bit tired and tatty.

Review 45:The staff were very attentive and friendly. Room was clean.

Review 46:The hotel is in need of some repairs, the door in my bedroom had a hole on it, toilet always had quite a lot of water on it, wasn't sure if it was blocked, although we didn't feel any smell from it. The toilet down stairs was out of order, so if a person with poor mobility required toilet they would have to go up stairs.

Review 47:Very friendly staff, very clean, lovely breakfast

Review 48:Room could do with a bit of an refresh.

Review 49:Staff were very nice and friendly. The room was a bit tired but it is an old hotel. Food at the restaurant was good and it was very handy to the Orkney Island Ferry.

Review 50:Rooms are long overdue for renovation (wallpaper coming off, holes in wall where previous TV removed, tiny shower head, cheap loo paper, extremely creaky floor boards in corridor outside door). Expensive Guinness.

Review 51:Location

Review 52:We were directed to bar for evening meal .very noisy .tables not suitable for eating off .no room to sit with legs under .Dining room did open when bar was too busy .but too late for us .The seating in Bar was all worn / dirty looking.
