Reviews for Hotel Hafnarfjall

Review 1:Everything was great! The Hotel was lovely in a great location where you have a great view of Borgarnes and can also go for a walk at the beach. We had a great view of the northern lights from there.

Review 2:The bedrooms are a little bit old, but everything works fine.

Review 3:the owner is an excellent person, very helpful and kind. He showed us the main point of interest in the town and nearest areas. There are always coffee, tea and chocolate. Good price compare with another hotels. We arrived to the place in the middle of a snowstorm and the entrance was full of snow, but the owner always help us, and we were the only ones at the hotel that night, so we had the entire place just for us, which it was nice.

Review 4:Very small rooms with an unpleasant smell Rooms open outside so in case of cold weather/snow/rain it might be a problem

Review 5:Good location Good breakfast

Review 6:No bad experience but no TV in the rooms. For us it was no problem because they have a good wifi connection. Water from the shower smells a little bit. I think it comes from source nearby Deildartunguhver...

Review 7:Friendly staff,

Review 8:As some of the lights in the room were not working and there were very few guests staying ( I think we were the only ones), we got an upgrade to an apartment. Very very spacious, lovely balcony with outlook over the water. Breakfast was very nice too with special thanks to the owners for providing gluten free bread.

Review 9:It seemed a little run down and unkempt, very basic, but suited our needs.

Review 10:Traveling with a group of 3 for most of our trip, sharing rooms we decided to get our own rooms for 1 night here and the price was right and included breakfast.

Review 11:Location is a bit "nether here nor there" in a way - it's out of Reykjavik but also not close to Snaefellsnes Peninsula so you still have to drive around one hour to either of those places. Shared bathroom was not properly maintained - there was the whole pond on the floor after somebody's shower and the person showering didn't clean it which was very inconsiderate, but staff didn't notice it the whole day as well... However, not too big things...

Review 12:Nice breakfast, clean and comfy room, great lobby to relax with complimentary tea/coffee and magazines, warm atmosphere, good wifi, great value for money...

Review 13:A couple more pillows would have been good. It would have been nice to have a tv in the room but there was one in the lounge area at reception. Bathroom was very small.

Review 14:Basic breakfast but no complaints. Decoration and feel of the hotel is old fashioned yet nice. Friendly staff. Lounge area for guests.

Review 15:The location was outside of the city and the street light leading to the hotel were out. Coming in at night in the dark was extremely difficult to find and frustrating. The rooms were very outdated comparing to other locations we stayed in Iceland. The parking lots was all gravel around the property and no real signage so people just parked wherever. The noise transferred and you could hear everything from the surrounding rooms which unfortunately kept us up most of the night due to the neighbours we had that day.

Review 16:Great breakfast served in the morning

Review 17:Rooms are very noisy, you can hear the wind at night very very loud. It's like a constant whistle. Common bathrooms smells quite bad and the common area with a TV just shows one channel

Review 18:Location is just a 5 minute drive from Borgarnes and an hour drive from Reykjavik. Breakfast is really good, the offer several breads and different options on a good buffet

Review 19:This hotel hasn't been updated in probably 50 years. The first room we had, with a double bed, was so small that we literally couldn't fit the two of us in there with two suitcases. We moved to another room because the toilet was broken. The second room had two twin beds and was bigger, so we had slightly more room to move. The walls are also paper-thin. A bleaker room I can't imagine.

Review 20:The bed was very comfortable, and the room had a view onto the fjord and the city lights of Bogarnes (it's located over the causeway, outside the city). The host was very genial, and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 21:Nothing

Review 22:The owner was very welcoming and informative. Even reserving us a table for dinner at the museum in Borganes. Location is lovely, just across the bay from Borganes and overlooking shrubs and the sea. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and constantly being replenished. Rooms are motel style but quiet and comfortable.

Review 23:The place is very nice, and clean, with beautifull view over the bay. Breakfast was big and diverse. Personell was very nice and helpfull. And for a good price (as for Iceland) you get a room with own bathroom.

Review 24:My friend and I loved this place. It was set in a beautiful location and they were extremely accommodating. Unfortunately, we had gotten lost driving on the road and turned up very very late. The man at the desk was a dream, completely helpful, and lovely to us. I would stay here again.

Review 25:Need to drive into Borgarnes for a meal; not a problem but worth taking into account when considering options for a stay in the town.

Review 26:Good basic hotel, good breakfast.

Review 27:Few things in the apt needed attention-one section of the couch was broken, so everytime you sat in it, it dropped down and the door was off the oven so you couldn't use it.

Review 28:We had the family apt for 2 adult couples. The apartment was huge, with a terrace, lovely open floor plan (one bed was in the open area and another in the one bedroom). There was a living area and large bathroom. The view over the water, with mountains in the background were spectacular. Breakfast was sumptuous and delicious with fresh croissants, fruits, eggs, fish, meats, cheeses and cereals. Beers and pop were on the hone system if you need a late night beverage and no one at the desk (refreshing to see!)

Review 29:Was a bit tricky to find at first. The room was very small and there's absolutely no soundproof.

Review 30:A typical motel, where you can park your car in front of your room. Clean. Friendly staff. Very nice breakfast. Lovely view.

Review 31:- the water smells like everywhere in Iceland - there are bigger and smaller rooms. The bigger rooms are good, but the smaller (cheap) ones under the roof look a bit run down and only have tiny windows, but they are okay for one or two nights.

Review 32:- perfect location, close to the ringroad and ocean view at the same time - nice lobby with TV and coffee/tee for free - very good breakfast buffet - super friendly staff - just a short ride from Borgarnes - many toilets/ shower rooms

Review 33:The smell from hot water is stronger than in other cities. But it is not hotel's issue.

Review 34:Great hotel in a very quiet place with magnificent view (if you get windows to the harbour).

Review 35:Very windy night with the wind whistling and knocking against the outside balcony door. We both thought we heard the other get up and go outside (neither did!). Thin walls. Photos on-line were more favorable that actuality.

Review 36:Easy to find, good communication. Beautiful view of mountains. Hearty breakfast and free wifi.

Review 37:Couldn't find any fault, we liked it very much.

Review 38:We had a huge, very nice and comfortable room for 3 people with balcony. All was ok, breakfast was great.

Review 39:Trash can lid in bathroom was dirty, gave a bad impression. Rest of room seemed clean.

Review 40:Able to get last minute reservation. Liked location and view. Stall helpful and friendly. Good distance from Reykjavik to arrive there in about an hour of travel.

Review 41:It did not have a refrigerator and/or microwave or any kitchen facilities.

Review 42:The location was very close to hwy 1. It had a very nice view of Bogarnes.

Review 43:1. No hair dryer provided; 2. No laundary facilities

Review 44:1. A big apartment with reasonable price; 2. With balcony 3. Excellent breakfast 4. Sea view of village Borgarnes 5. Free parking and WiFi 6. Quiet environment

Review 45:Room was noisy because of shared toilet next to it but after mentioning it was refunded and will be changed into ensuite for future guests

Review 46:Very good breakfast

Review 47:There was really nothing in the room. No TV, kettle or hairdryer. No sound isolation at all. You can here every sound your neighbours produce.

Review 48:It's OK to stay here for a night. Minimum facilities.

Review 49:I was charged extra for checking in two people into the room originally meant for one, despite my email at booking confirming this. (The room was two twin beds). They acknowledged this email but did not mention extra charge. The walls (and ceiling, and stairs) are very thin and we had very noisy neighbors.

Review 50:Breakfast was provided, the staff was kind and helpful, nice space. Across the bay from Borgarnes. Private entrance and bathroom. Linens and wi-fi provided.

Review 51:Everything was great

Review 52:Beautiful location and spacious house. Very nice and friendly personal. Delicious breakfast , cosy rooms and bathrooms. Great place for picnic outside the hotel with super view!

Review 53:Shower: temperature would change from hot to cold , sloping roof in the bedroom (be careful for your head!)

Review 54:Very friendly staff, comfy bed, good location

Review 55:Hot water smells very much of sulphur (rotten eggs). We were not allowed to put up tent in the vicinity of the hotel, but the manager did manage to find a room fitting for 3 ppl instead of for 1 which we had booked.

Review 56:Good breakfast! Clean rooms and shared bathrooms. Good value for very decent price.

Review 57:We got two twin beds instead of a queen.

Review 58:It was a fantastic location! The food was delicious and you felt like you were at the edge of the world. A must stay.

Review 59:Smell of water, but it's normal in this area.

Review 60:Great hotel, very good localization, nice place to rest for a while (mountains from one side, beach from another). Very kind personel. Room was clean and comfortable. Very good breakfast.

Review 61:The walls of the rooms upstairs are thin as paper, you almost hear the persons in the next rooms breathe! I do not know about the ones on the ground level.

Review 62:Good location, quiet surroundings and still very close to the ringroad. Excellent breakfast!

Review 63:This is a very basic roadside motel, but the staff was great, and thebreakfast was truly enjoyable! The rooms are nothing to write homeabout. And, much like the rest of Iceland, the tap water is verysulfuric and unpleasant. The place is just across the bay bridge fromthe sweet little village of Borgarnes, which has a nice selection offood and drink available for meals other than breakfast. If you'rejourneying down the road, and need a place to stay, this is great, butdon't go out of your way to visit.

Review 64:Nice rooms, but some bathroom smells crept into upper floor hallways / rooms - not uncomfortable but noticible. I think they were working on the ventilation to improve this.

Review 65:Great breakfast, nicely run facility, makes you feel welcome.

Review 66:The walls are thin, my friends could hear their neighbor snoring.

Review 67:the view, the host, the communal area where you could get free tea and coffee all the time. the honor code for getting snacks when no one was around.

Review 68:We did ask for a double bed but got two singles. The window didn't have any blinds and since we where there in June the room couldn't get dark during the night.

Review 69:Great breakfast buffe.

Review 70:The hotel is not proper for access in a wheelchair. The rooms and toilet downstairs are to small, and the room upstairs does not have an elevator. The staff was friendly, but made us pay before letting us know, that he hadn't looked at our booking saying that the room should have wheelchairaccess, and that he couldn't make that happend. Not good enough.

Review 71:Room was fine but furniture was older so don't expect anything new or stylish. Location felt a bit remote. It's not pretty but the price was good, good for a simple, clean stopover.

Review 72:Breakfast was nice, and the view from the dining area was very pretty, room had its own washroom. Coffee and tea available all day owner was very kind.

Review 73:Place was completely unstaffed on arrival and had to use a temperamental telephone to call someone in. As it was winter they didn't serve evening food. Understand the reason but wish they had advertised this.

Review 74:Breaking a journey from Reykjavik to Akureyri. Close to facilities in Borganes. Comfortable and quiet. Great views at the back. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 75:we could not find the hotel as their sign is still under 'hotel bru' so we had to backtracked several time and actually went to hotel bru to discover it was our hotel.

Review 76:very friendly and warm welcome. In a very good location to see all the watefalls and other landscapes around + city of borganes.

Review 77:For photo of standard rooms, refer to image 17 - don't be fooled by the gorgeous photos placed near the front of the set of images. The room was so cramped, there was not enough room for 2 suitcases open. We spent the night tripping over suitcases. 1 bed is pushed up right against the heater, which makes for an incredibly uncomfortably warm night. Cutlery and tableware for breakfast are less than sparkling clean.

Review 78:Very friendly and helpful staff who really make you feel welcome. Nice walk down to the beach. Beautiful views.

Review 79:We slept well during the 2 nights stay, The young lady who attends to us during breakfast was really nice & friendly, constantly replenish the food on the table, we had good breakfast=)

Review 80:I understand that the hotel needs to be refurbished and I understand also that you do that in Winter when less guests are visiting Iceland. But that should be mentioned and rates should be lower. Our room was big, but not yet ready for guests: Refurbishment of bathroom not finished, not all lights worked properly and so on. Also, there was no room service which I excpect in a hotel. Don't get me wrong, owners are friendly and helpful and maybe once everything is refurbished and up to date, this hotel has the chance to be something very special. Right now it isn't...

Review 81:Staff/Owner were friendly, breakfast was good, location is very nice

Review 82:At first the Wi-Fi wasn't working, but the staff fixed it the same evening and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for the 'inconvenience'. The staff was very helpful, alerting us twice to see the Northern Lights dancing around the hotel. We might have missed it otherwise. Breakfast was nice and served to a time of our choosing. The hotel is just outside Borgarnes, which might help to see the Northern Light because of the darker surroundings.

Review 83:Management has changed since we initially stayed here in 2012, and this is clearly reflected in the standard of accommodation. The hotel was undergoing renovations, so in general was not tidy or appeared well kept. There were people working on nearby rooms well into the night (9pm+), with constant banging on walls, talking, moving equipment around etc. On arrival, we waited 20 minutes for someone to come to the hotel to check us in (no staff on premises), after being informed by a fellow guest that we would have to call a particular number and ask for this (unclear signage). At 6pm, the breakfast room still had a plate of fruit out from (I assume) that morning, the table/plates etc did not appear clean, and there were flies everywhere inside. We did not stay for breakfast the following morning so cannot comment. Definitely overpriced for the standard of service and accommodation received, but could potentially do well with new renovations and improved customer service.

Review 84:Fantastic views from either side of the hotel, and a great location by the water, easily accessible from the road. A short 5 minute trip into Borgarnes where there are supermarkets and food outlets available. Location is good and facilities were relatively clean. Upstairs room with shared facilities was relatively comfortable, but limited ventilation/light from the one small window in the roof.

Review 85:Rooms need some attention to detail (but I slept well and everything worked)

Review 86:Friendly owner.manager "Gylfi" View of sea and mountains Location Good breakfast

Review 87:The staff were super friendly and helpful. The views are incredible. My room was HUGE, could have had 4 people sleeping there comfortably so value for money is amazing. Perfect location to explore the west or Thingvellir and its surroundings.

Review 88:The place is a little run down as it is in transition. I wish the new propietors all the best. Hot water smells of sulfur which needs to be addressed,

Review 89:Great breakfast. Convenient location. Pleasant host. Very good price. The recommended museum restaurant in town was fabulous.

Review 90:small hotel but verry quiet, we had a room with the view on the sea. only few minutes from Borgarnes. Breakfast was good with some hot pastries!

Review 91:The water smelled like sulfur so it seemed like you were showering in eggs.

Review 92:Very comfortable

Review 93:Room is too smal and nothing except beds. When we arrived there was private party being hold, and We could not be comfortableto use public area.

Review 94:Beautiful building and terrace view, pleasant staff, quaint ambiance

Review 95:We got upgraded to family room. Huge room with terrace. Lovely view.

Review 96:Nice host. He opened the hotel just for us!! We could see the northern lights right from our bedroom window!!!

Review 97:Beautiful location right outside of Borgarnes. Very friendly and local feeling - recommended for all.

Review 98:Very friendly staff, large and incredibly comfortable room, very reasonably priced.

Review 99:Breakfast made by Andrzej

Review 100:We upgraded to the largest room above the dining area which was great. Private with lounge space and view of ocean. Ample buffet breakfast.

Review 101:It wasn't bad, but the hotel felt a little worn out and dusty; it could do with some modernising.

Review 102:Staff were helpful.

Review 103:Great location. Rooms simple but clean and comfortable. Breakfast plentiful and delicious, standard Icelandic fare.

Review 104:Helpful staff, rooms small but warm and comfortable.

Review 105:we had a wonderful wiev from our room and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights.

Review 106:-perfect spot to see the northern lights -easy to park, easy to find -staff friendly and helpful -gorgeous breakfast with local specialties

Review 107:The sink was very aweful, small so bad ...

Review 108:Close to the city Easy to find Very charming person

Review 109:Facilities are a bit old.

Review 110:Nice location, good for traveling through.

Review 111:Weak Wi-Fi signal

Review 112:Hotel is OK for one night stand. Good breakfast

Review 113:Wonderful property with great staff!

Review 114:Carpets should urgently be replaced

Review 115:Nice view to Borgarnes

Review 116:Awesome location with simple, comfortable rooms. Buffet breakfast was delicious and the staff were great!

Review 117:Good breakfast selection. Coffee and tea we always available free.

Review 118:close to the main city, calm and reserved

Review 119:Small room, bathrooms were a bit of a walk down the hall.

Review 120:Amazing breakfast.

Review 121:Breakfast buffet excellent. Manager really nice and accomodating. Went out of his to return late to help us understand how to work the shower.

Review 122:Carpet in the room and the water doesnt smell good

Review 123:Friendly staff
