Reviews for St Clair Hotel

Review 1:This is a nice hotel - our room was clean and we had a rather more spacious bathroom at the St. Clair than in many other places we stayed in Scotland. The staff at the front desk and the bar were friendly and helpful. This hotel is also located within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

Review 2:Location simple street. Thurso can do more with it's location

Review 3:Location near railway station Friendly reception Pleasant restaurant on Thurso harbour (or promenade)

Review 4:not a bad experience, but the breakfast was a bit poor - small selection of cereal and uninteresting bread for toasting.

Review 5:Cleanliness overall and friendly staff - in a well located hotel.

Review 6:Couldn't access wifi despite phoning reception, shower difficult to use and breakfast eggs were rather greasy.

Review 7:Location was great, room clean and tidy with a great price.

Review 8:The cooked breakfast was a disappointment. Haggis (I think it was!) seemed microwaved, or at least reheated, and rest could have been more substantial (no mushrooms!) Not great. However it was promptly served and all the usual extras were there on the buffet.

Review 9:Staff went out of their way to help me find a map and a weather forecast for the next day, and found a space for me to store my bike. They also put me in a nice big room which they had spare even though I was a solo traveller.

Review 10:The reception lady was very straight to the point nothing extra in the conversation when we arrived. Wifi didn't work in bed room though it did say so

Review 11:The reception when we checked out was very help ful, breakfast was good

Review 12:The staff does not care about the details that make a stay comfortable. The sheets had several holes. The room is just OK, on the small side. The cooked breakfast is of low quality, the worst haggis and sausages we tried on our trip to Scotland. The staff order you where to sit, for example in the darkest corner, within a totally empty restaurant. While you are having breakfast they spray the table next to you, and cross the restaurant carrying dirty laundry and the vacuum cleaner. The staff in the reception is unwelcoming.

Review 13:The region is lovely.

Review 14:No wifi in room and staff grossly under trained in the dinning area

Review 15:Wifi was good where you could get it. Breakfast was ok and probably above average as was dinner.

Review 16:room very small, no internet connection, when booking price was £68 when it came to pay i get told i owed £82. shower was more of a trickle.

Review 17:staff very good

Review 18:Poor WiFi reception

Review 19:The St Clair Hotel provides an excellent touring base for the Caithness Area. Located in the quiet seaside town of Thurso it provided the ideal venue for an activity weekend. The staff were helpful and breakfast was tailored to taste.

Review 20:When i ordered food at 8:30 ( macaroni cheese and chips ) it arrived stone cold with luke warm chips, They did offer to heat it up but by that time i just wanted my bed, Saying that i was not charged for it but i would have prefered my dinner.

Review 21:The staff were very frendly

Review 22:Crazy position of the toilet. You had to be a contortionist to use it. Pretended to be a classy place but old and not up to modern standards.

Review 23:Helpful staff The lift

Review 24:the smell of the vase of lilies in reception pervaded the open areas of the hotel - I cannot cope with that smell

Review 25:comfy bed and delicious Scottish breakfast

Review 26:They were extremely helpful in responding to our questions about gluten-free food on the menu and were lovely about providing us with gluten-free bread at supper and breakfast.

Review 27:The wifi didn't work in the room however it was comfy in the lounge and it worked well there

Review 28:The manager was fabulous and nothing was a problem. She went out of her way to accommodate our early departure.

Review 29:The knock on the door at 8am, then a staff member opening the door and closing it again. This woke me up.

Review 30:Location was useful to myself as it was a 5 minute walk to my interview.

Review 31:Tiny room, very threadbare. Wifi did not reach to top floor. Noisy at night if other guests coming and going. Unpleasant smell in reception. Restaurant meal tiny and ridiculously overpriced for what it was.

Review 32:Friendly staff. Breakfast was quite good.

Review 33:The television in the bar area was not necessary .

Review 34:The management and staff were very friendly and efficient, the room was well appointed with wifi and serviced every day with clean towels etc. the restaurant served a good breakfast and offered a good choice of evening mealmoerawith something for everyone. The lounge area was very comfortable.

Review 35:Very hard to find — but not their fault because a truck had destroyed their sign and new one not yet installed. In common with just about every other hotel and B&B in Scotland, curtains not thick enough to block out 4am broad daylight.

Review 36:Clean, comfortable, well-equipped. Don't be fooled by the sober, nondescript exterior. Inside, the St. Clair is substantial and well furnished and includes a nice restaurant. Good shower & other amenities.

Review 37:I thought the price was expensive stayed the next night in a bed and breakfast for only 5 pounds more and there was no comparison. Thought we'd have drink on the bar but they have the TV going hopeless atmosphere.

Review 38:Every thing was ok

Review 39:Nothing I didn't like!

Review 40:Staff very pleasant ...rooms comfortable and warm .Rooms cleaned daily and towels changed daily which is a big plus for me ! Lovely dining room.

Review 41:the hotel is a little like a warren with not much information or pictures in the hallways. The room was pretty basic and quite expensive in comparison to hotels in Scotland that we paid less for, but were better standard. The photo of the front of the hotel is quite a good indication of what to expect in the hotel. Don't buy a pint in the over-expensive bar. Turn left out of the front door and you will find two other bars that were way cheaper.

Review 42:the breakfast was good quality and the staff were helpful. Take the time to walk down to the beach for a stunning bay. The road to John a Groats is a stunning drive. Check out the Scrabster, the start of the A9, the longest A road in Britain.

Review 43:Nothing!

Review 44:Very friendly hotel, room was rather small but cosy. Despite being located in the centre of Thurso on one of the main roads, the hotel is very quiet. The cooked breakfast was tasty and available early in the morning (from 7 to 9).

Review 45:Although the room was very clean, it was in need of some refurbishment.

Review 46:Friendly and very helpful staff. Good food. Very convenient location. Room was very clean. Comfortable bed.

Review 47:My two teenagers and I, with bikes, were made very welcome, and when our plans changed, the hotel staff were helpful and always friendly. We stayed in a triple room (just right for us) with a nice big en-suite. Food was on the good side of adequate, but not outstanding. Overall, much better value for money than some others at twice the price!

Review 48:Very friendly staff. We got soaked when out walking. Receptionist arranged for clothes to be dried at short notice. They came back ironed as well and no extra charge! Food very good. Overall good value for money.

Review 49:The WiFi was unreliable but that could be due to the town being so far north.

Review 50:Large, comfortable and extremely clean single room with en suite. The staff were excellent, very helpful and lovely. Easy walk to the train station.

Review 51:I disliked my bedroom. It was in desperate need of refurbishment and it wasn't very clean. Rotting window frame No ventilation in the bathroom Marks on walls No pictures Grubby and tired looking drapes

Review 52:The foyer was quite attractive. The breakfast was good.

Review 53:The hotel had been renovated and everything was looking well cared for and spic and span. The ensuite bathroom was very good and the standard of cleanliness and neatness too. The bed was comfy. The staff were lovely - very willing to please. We were looking for the local museum and they had the right local knowledge. The breakfast offered a good choice and was pleasantly served.

Review 54:Window frames were rotten (but rooms were otherwise clean and comfortable) Wifi didn't work in my room but was okay in the bar ares

Review 55:Rooms were comfortable and clean

Review 56:The brand of tea in our room - bring your own for a decent cuppa.

Review 57:Room was cozy, shower was fine. Breakfast was excellent. Photographs (displayed in the hotel's diningroom) of the locality over 100 years ago were beautiful and fascinating.

Review 58:Location was ideal as we travelled by train.

Review 59:Lots of stairs and doors to get to my room.
