Reviews for Talbot Hotel Carlow

Review 1:We stayed in Talbot on weekend of 17th January and everything was lovely. We were running a little late for dinner and check-in and Amanda on hotel reception in particular was most helpful. Our table for dinner in Lime Tree was also no issue and the food was amazing and very tasty. The bar was nice and quite and cocktails particularly the Talbotmopolitan was amazing!! Our room was a superior room and was a fab size and very clean. We also had breakfast delivered to our room which was no very convenient and no problem either despite that fact that we only left out the card requesting breakfast in our room after midnight the night before.

Review 2:Children were running up and down the corridor outside our room at 1.30 in the morning we had to be up early for long drive back to CORK i was wrecked tired beds very uncomfortable rock hard!

Review 3:The hotel was nice room was clean and quite a big room

Review 4:I had a three year old child with me and I was put in room number 313, which was above a smoking area where Christmas parties were being held so very very noisy .. my daughter could not go to sleep and was frightened by the noise - dissapointing

Review 5:bar food was lovely staff were helpful

Review 6:Few things that could be improved on Food in bar is not the nicest. Service is slow and some food came out only luke warm. Would expect better quality giving the pricing of the dishes. Swimming pool would have been much more enjoyable had it been warmer however we still had great fun the facilities in the pool are great. Fixtures in bathroom of hotel room should be replaced, completely mishaped and rusted shower curtain rail could quite in expensively be replaced as with discoloured toilet seat. The room decor is so nice and appealing it's a pity these things let the over all image down!!

Review 7:Easy to find, great location with so much around for kids to do. Very efficient check in extreme friendly and helpful receptionist. lovely warm clean rooms with extra bed as requested. Lots of parking. Kids made very welcome great colouring packs to keep them entertained during dining in the bar. Beautiful buffet breakfast in the morning very enjoyable. The hairdressers on site are very friendly and very reasonably priced!! Would definitely visit again!!

Review 8:In the morning there was a smell like drains in the bathroom. It was probably due to the storm.

Review 9:Hotel was very clean. Very nice rooms and staff very friendly. Food was lovely in the bar and breakfast was good too

Review 10:Have no complaints

Review 11:The staff were so friendly and helpful , manager couldn't do enough for you . Kids loved the pool and the kiddies salon . Food was excellent. Will definitely be back ?

Review 12:TV didnt work. Tried to phone reception and discovered phone was also faulty. Had to go to reception to log faults. Got a new phone and had to call reception to get a password for the wifi which could have been supplied to us at check in. Next morning I plugged in the kettle and it caused a fault in the electrics and all the sockets tripped and had no power. Reported this and went out for the morning. On returning the sockets where working again and I plugged in the kettle and tripped the fuse again. Also noticed we had no new towels from housekeeping even though the room had been serviced. Rang reception and got it sorted. New kettle and towels. There was a slight smell of stale urine in the bathroom which could have been rectified with a bit of bleach. Not bad enough to warrant another call to reception but still not what you would expect. The whole time i was in the room I had to endure the loud banging of doors that actually made the headboard and the wall it was attached to shake. There was a continuous herd of children in the corridor running ,shouting and screaming and much banging of doors. This went on until 11oclock on the 2 nights I stayed. I am not into ruining the kids fun but a little after 10 i went out and found one of the parents and asked him to ask the children to keep the noise down. It didnt have much effect .

Review 13:Beds very comfortable. Bedroom was spacious and modern and had a comfortable temperature throughout the stay. Bar was relaxing and live entertainment was not too loud or intrusive.

Review 14:Was a little disappointed in the shower, which was a wet room we requested. The drainage was very poor which resulted in the whole floor getting wet.

Review 15:The food in the bar

Review 16:Food wasn't. To great standard in bar. For dinner. V average. Breakfast pretty basic. But ok was hot Often buffets. Are only. Warm

Review 17:Beds very comfortable Room. Very good size Staff v friendly. Pool went down well with 8 year old. And. Dome around the corner with bowling was a major hit

Review 18:mattress in room should be thrown out - well used and caused back pain to both yself & wife Was given wrong invoice at check in but resolved quickly

Review 19:bar & food were very good Kids club use of the Dome excellent and real draw for our kids

Review 20:The food was lovely and a good variety on the bar menu as well as the kids menu. The staff always helpful and friendly and the beds very comfortable.

Review 21:Waitress was very abrupt in bar telling us at 21.15 to hurry up ordering as the chef was finishing up. Bar was serving food until half nine and we questioned this. She replied that we could only order mains as the chef had to cook and clean up and it was getting late. We decided not to bother eating there and went into carlow town.

Review 22:Receptionist and barman friendly

Review 23:Double bed in room not very comfortable, had a dip in the middle and mattress wasn't very good

Review 24:Lovely hotel, clean, friendly staff and easy to find

Review 25:It was full of hens and stags, who woke us up several times throughout the night. The check in staff and security are great, but the breakfast staff are awful - we had to hunt them down to get a pot of tea and then it was only half full when it arrived. The pool is quite small and was absolutely full of noisy children the whole time we were there, so we couldn't enjoy it.

Review 26:Very comfortable bed and the rooms are excellent! I also had a great massage in the spa.

Review 27:Asked for something special as it was our wedding night.. basic room couldnt even find the kettle for a coffee.. no drinks or chocolates.. nothing but basic

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:When we arrived receptionist was not very friendly.had to wait a long time for room to be ready so headed to get carvery lunch,it was busy and absolutely no staff helped my elderly dad(80) and mam find a table or assisted myself and my kids.so eventually i cleaned a free table myself for us. When we finally checked in there were no towels at all in the room which was a huge frustration especially travelling with young kids. however the different receptionist when we checked out was very friendly.

Review 30:Pool was lovely.

Review 31:Nothing. We missed breakfast on the last day (Monday) as we wanted to sleep late and last breakfast was at 10am, so we made the choice of sleeping rather than eating. A later breakfast time would have been nice but it didn't lessen our experience or opinion of the hotel.

Review 32:I loved that the beds were made up with summer weight bedding and that the windows were openable as it made for a very comfortable nights sleep. The room was a comfortable temperature, unlike most hotels which are too hot. The breakfast was excellent, very good quality products and everything tasted great.

Review 33:Queue on Saturday for breakfast was ridiculous. Not enough staff in bar or breakfast room to deal with the busy period.

Review 34:There was a lovely room for kids to run around instead of being in bar and hairdressers

Review 35:There was no ramp down to the Dome, so people in wheelchairs also parents with baby's had to walk around the car park to reach it.

Review 36:Staff were lovely very helpful in all areas of the hotel.

Review 37:The room was extremely dirty, dirty carpets, stains on bed throw, very worn furniture . Smell of old chip oil very strong at the pool. Food terrible. Tempeture too high at the breakfast room

Review 38:Changed room without question to another room. Reception staff very friendly

Review 39:Staff in bar need to be retraining waiting for drink and floor for 20 mins and floor staff at breakfast very slow need more training when working in 5 star hotel

Review 40:Location

Review 41:the price was high and the cleaner walked in on a do not disturb. The girl who delivered breakfast stood looking for tray charge instead of putting on the bill.

Review 42:Room

Review 43:The Buffet breakfast wasn`t great. Cheap salty rashers and shrivelled mushrooms.... Dry tasteless Brown bread. Needs a bit of work.

Review 44:Fine room and bathroom.

Review 45:Rooms a bit dated and smokey odor from carpets. TV was basic especialy when children are travelling with you.

Review 46:Excellent pool facilities. Food was good and value was excellent.

Review 47:Room service was a bit hit and miss daily we had to ask for towels, tea & coffee etc despite room being "cleaned" Having to get a daily password for WIFI which was hit and miss anyway

Review 48:Reception Staff were very helpful especially Dean. Kids club Overall hotel was very nice we would book again

Review 49:The room was cold when we entered...all the windows were open. We had to wait for over 15 minutes to order food in the bar. Food looked like it had been prepared earlier in the day. Staff were not very friendly.

Review 50:Location was good. It was clean.

Review 51:We had to wait over 1 1/2 hours for our room to be ready. There was meant to be a camp bed in the room for my son and there wasn't. The fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times in the middle of the nite and there wasn't even an apology the next morning.

Review 52:The leisure facilities are very good, my son enjoyed the swimming pool very much!

Review 53:The receptionist when we first arrived just brightened up our day a young lady who was so helpful from that moment on our trip was perfectly off to the right start.

Review 54:My sat Nav was kaput; so I had to rely on finding it myself...Went pastit into Carlow; I feel it could be sign-posted as Hotels are in otherTowns; After travelling from far side of sligo, the last thing I neededwas getting caught in Friday evening Traffic.....But thats probablybeing a bit finnicky; no complaints

Review 55:Peace & Quiet; Comfort; friendly & helpful Staff; Had a lovelydinner Friday night as well; keep up the good work

Review 56:Jus the menu hadn't got enough options for thinks to eat but food as to what I got was gorgeous..

Review 57:I was wit my friend n our 2 kids we had a ball here, rooms were fresh n clean, staff so friendly n welcoming, the food was amazing really would recommend it and I'm planning on goin back soon

Review 58:I traveled with my 10 yr old son who's a very competent swimmer I don't swim and he couldn't enter the pool because he's not 12 even though I could see him .We had to leave the hotel to entertain him but I had picked up that there was activities for children .

Review 59:Staff were lovely hotel was very clean

Review 60:Family room had a single and double bed only, last time we stayed there was a camp bed in the room, bit cramped as there was 2 adults and two children

Review 61:Staff are very friendly and accommodating, nothings a problem for them

Review 62:Stayed on the 3rd floor. Room was okay nothing special a little disappointing for a 4 star in fact. Had to return twice to the reception with room key cards as they wouldn't work. Noise from ballroom travels up through the building to the room so not the best for a quiet nights sleep if there is a wedding on.

Review 63:All Staff very friendly and helpful from the bar / reception to the cleaning staff.

Review 64:Everything very good bar service while dining.waited 15 mins after finishing main and nobody cleared plate or offered desert. At breakfast, asked for coffee, got tea.Coffee turned out to be one cup. However, gym and room excellent.

Review 65:Breakfast was cooler than id prefer, turn the heat up folks! Better signage around the town.

Review 66:Nice Hotel, pleasant staff, very good food in Bistro for price.

Review 67:Far to many children, should have been made clear on booking, outdated decor, fixture and fittings in need of some care.Hard to get coffee and tea at breakfast, needed more staff and faster food service,

Review 68:Size of room and bathroom

Review 69:The warm and welcoming staff that served us. We got a super night's sleep no noise and bed very comfortable. I would highly recommend the Tolbot Hotel is the place to stay, you wont be disappointed

Review 70:Am a non smoker and felt that when walking around all I could smell was cigarette smoke. Opened room window as room quiet warm only for smoke from smoking area to drift in.

Review 71:Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 72:the bedrooms need a lick of paint - marks on the walls - fittings in the bathrooms looking tatty. cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the dining room

Review 73:Nice views of the country side, just can,t see out the windows for dirt, shower not working, breakfast sloppy, lift broken, carpets in bedroom disgusting. Blood and vomit badly cleaned up. Kettle needs cleaning ! Builders living in the rooms,

Review 74:That you can make your own coffee ! east-European waiting staff very pleasant

Review 75:Every thing woke at 5.30 in morn by drunk woman banging and shouting at the door next to us just a sheet for bedding food in bar not great frozen peas Ment to be caujan salmon not a bit to be seen as a chef my self this is poor food

Review 76:Break fast was ok

Review 77:No water or Glasses in rooms. and wi fi code to difficult to enter its far too long why not just a simple like Talbot Carlow Plus whatever. general printer required in reception area. Charge a small fee.

Review 78:Most of my stay reception excellent, and staff in bar, a bit slow but only two staff on. I feel that there should be a laptop / printer in reception instead of having to go behind reception. recreation centre excellent.

Review 79:Breakfast was very nice, food of good quality and taste. Evening meal in bar was very nice too. The nice touch was that the manager welcomed each guest while we have our evening meal in the bar area, and had a few more nice words to say to each guest. You don't get this every where!

Review 80:Nothing to not like about it

Review 81:Excellent hotel, wished we could have stayed longer. A big yes to here.Staff were so helpful and friendly, go stay and see for yourself. Well done to you all in the Talbot!!!!!

Review 82:Budget hotel experience at every other point - no veg served with steak and chips €3 surcharge for side portion of veg. €1 surcharge for cappuccino at breakfast. Remote was missing battery and was told when called reception that they had batteries and we could go down and get them. Room reserved for 2adults and 2kids - only 2 bath towels in bathroom. All in all didn't feel was 4 star experience - paid budget price and to be fair got budget experience.

Review 83:Pool lovely and clean and friendly helpful staff in leisure center. Good selection at breakfast. Good value for a family room with breakfast. Husband very happy with sky sports in bedroom.

Review 84:Swimming pool family room was very spacious staff were very friendly food in restaurant was lovely the hotel is close to a play area for kids and shopping for mummy

Review 85:Food and services was a disgraceful in the bistro, we actually could not eat the food, we were left waiting for a manger to come see us after the waitress asked was the food not nice, manager did not show, i called the waitress and made her aware that we were laeving, she told us we would recive a free desert or coffe later on in the bar, when we retuned to the bar the waitress avoided us with all caution, not that we were looking for a desert or coffe at that hour off the eveing we were down to have an alochol beverage, staff was not friendly at all, except for the receptionist we met on arrival she was lovely and the only staff member at that, its safe to say we wont be back to your hotel and most deffinetly would not reccommend ur facilitys to friends or family.

Review 86:Staff were very friendly and helpful great value for money! My son enjoyed the kids club, pool and dome next door would definitely recommend for families.

Review 87:Very poor value for money!! Accommodation is basic. Bed sheets and towels were the poorest quality I've ever seen. TV did not work. WiFi is not free.

Review 88:Breakfast was OK Room was warm

Review 89:Whilst the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the lighting was extremely poor/dim.

Review 90:Convenient location. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast with superb views from 4th-floor restaurant.

Review 91:Nothing. Everything was great. Lovely food for breakfast and great service

Review 92:Staff were really friendly and welcoming Felt it was a very professionally well run establishment whose ethos seemed to really be the customer comes first

Review 93:Met with a friendly welcome in reception. Rooms nice clean and spacious. Good TV in room which contained its own iron( not always in individual rooms). Evening meal and breakfast had a good selection and was good. Leisure facilities very good also.

Review 94:Quite noisy, heating came on during the night making room too warm. On brochure it said soft fluffy towels, they were not soft. Card key would not work when we checked in were waiting in corridor for approx 1/2 hr & put into different room. There was no drinking water in the room to use with kettle for tea & coffee that were supplied.

Review 95:The staff & furnishings & surroundings.

Review 96:We 're stay at hotel over night room space enough. Wifi in room very good. Very friendly staff on the reception Bar restaurant as well, Leisure centre brilliant swimming pool for kids nice relax but only to open to 7 pm but early morning open 8 am. Breakfast lots of choice for food hotel really quiet easy find GPS Thak you again.

Review 97:Nothing loved it all

Review 98:Stayed for 2 nights left completely relax and chilled out. The staff we just great, easy going kind of hospitality (don't see to much of any more) food was good, room was good. Will be back

Review 99:Bar poorly run, counters left wet with spillage, service poor with under train staff left to their own devices - badly poured drinks were explained by faulty font -and a short measure because of an incorrect glass. All resolved after some effort but poor for the rating of the hotel. Fair to say the staff earlier in the evening were of a much higher standard - especially Robyn who was excellent! Rooms are tired - some ungrading needed. Bathrooms very clean but showers need attention for temp control and pressure.

Review 100:Fab staff in reception (especially a petite blonde lady - sorry can't recall her name - who was the standard setter for the whole stay) and the girls in the restaurant, the management were also friendly and caring. Attractive hotel with superb parking facilities.

Review 101:No proper duvets and breakfast only ran until 10am. Menu in the restaraunt was slightly limited.

Review 102:Comfy beds and stylish bathroom. Food was lovely and receptionist was very friendly. Tea and coffee making facilities were very good.

Review 103:Expected a quality leisure centre but gym was sub standard and in dire need of a paint job. Jacuzzi was full with only 2 people. Also the WiFi was a bit of a joke. Had to log in with a new password every 24 hours and it was very slow. I wouldn't go to this hotel again.

Review 104:Location was good, very easy to find. Overall the room was fairly clean.

Review 105:A house wine at a slightly cheaper price would suit everyday folk felt 23 euros was bit expensive but still paid for it up here in Belfast most hotels do a house wine for around 16.00 pounds didnt put me off

Review 106:Excellent food in Corries and 4th floor two course meal for 20 euros per person was excellent breakfast was also very good and all staff friendly at all times

Review 107:Didn't like play centre for kids broken toys, not child friendly. Friends stayed there few days ago .They didn't like hotel either.

Review 108:Liked restaurant esp breakfast.

Review 109:Dome play area was very expensive room in front of hotel where noisy but I would not be put off to much

Review 110:Staff where lovely and pool area was great for young children

Review 111:On the Wednesday night / Thursday morning we could not sleep until the wedding disco music was turned down. The disco was due to finish at 1.30 which for mid week is rather unfair on the other non wedding guests who may have work or a long drive in front of them. You expect noise on a Friday on Saturday night but not mid week!! It should have been highlighted on the booking page that this hotel is a popular wedding venue - which incidentally if that is what you are looking for is probably an excellent place .

Review 112:All of the above especially a very courteous and very well trained staff at all levels. Faultless

Review 113:The wait for dinner in the restaurant was a bit slow but staff n food excellent. Wasn't even busy unless busy with room service.

Review 114:Loved kids club the staff minding the children were excellent.

Review 115:When we arrived to check in a guest was having an argument with the receptionist who in fairness did not care about the issue which surprised us. we arrived back at the hotel after midnight had a drink in the bar and found out a wedding was taking place. We went to bed about 1am and were woke about 145am a large group of people where playing guitars and singing in the smoking area 2 floors below. After approx 20 mins of this tried to call the receptionist ti speak to the duty manager but could not get an answer after several attempts. Eventually the singing stopped and we dozed off for it to start up again about 330am again tried to call reception but no answer. finally got to sleep about 5am. I tried to speak to the receptionist about it the next morning but got the same uninterested response the guest got the day before. Very unhappy with the actions of the hotel and wont stay there again.

Review 116:We were extremely disappointed with breakfast this time, as we stayed before we couldn't believe the breakfast room was so disorganised when we got there, we didnt mind waiting on a table but when seated we had to wait 10 mins for glasses to get juice, we had full hot breakfast and had it eaten and our tea and coffee and toast never arrived after countless requests, we decided to have some croissants and brown bread and jam when the tea did arrive but there was none left and it was only 9am and waited for 20 mins and none surfaced. the rest of our party got fed up queuing for a table so paid for room service and were horrified when all they got was eggs, beans and mushrooms , staff were very friendly but there didnt seem to be a structure between them to try and sort the long queues and dirty tables. We ended up going somewhere else for breakfast but disappointed as we had paid for breakfast with our room

Review 117:We had stayed before and chose to go back to the Talbot as the staff are exceptionally lovely and a beautiful hotel to stay in

Review 118:Breakfast too chaotic. Had to ask for several items to be restocked. Also had to bring lack of bowls and glasses to attention of staff. Food was nice though and staff were helpful when asked for something.

Review 119:Friendly and helpful staff. Relaxing atmosphere

Review 120:My Grandson and I and my partner had a brilliant stay here.Staff couldn't be nicer to us,pool was exceptionally clean and changing rooms were spotless.Family room was spacious and very comfortable. We will DEFINITELY be back to the Talbot in the very near future.Thank you to everybody there.

Review 121:There were 2 rooms of young lads beside us and they banged the doors all evening and most of the night & despite reporting to management, I don't believe they were spoken to!

Review 122:no air conditioning in room and can only open window half an inch , it was the hottest day of the year when we stay and could hardly sleep with the heat.

Review 123:plenty of parking, dunnes just 2 mins away, food fab staff very helpful and friendly

Review 124:Not great outdoor seating near bar, eve sun great, view and amount of seating poor, no sun at front in eve and mostly smokers haven, non-smokers like to sit out too... No air conditioning

Review 125:Restaurant - enjoyed a lovely meal, reasonable, great atmosphere and view.

Review 126:Nothing to dislike

Review 127:I asked for a top floor room with a view and I got exactly what I asked for . a wonderful view over fields of ripening corn. Brilliant thanks. Lovely receptionist

Review 128:TV far too small for the size of room. Rooms are a little "dated & tired", but spotless.

Review 129:Very friendly staff. Were more than helpful. Travelled with an elderly parent; staff so welcoming, helpful and genuinely friendly. Made our visit complete. Food was excellent.

Review 130:In room furniture very tired and dated, carpet in bedroom very badly stained. Wash hand basin and bathroom floor tiles badly cracked. Mattress needed changed kept rolling into a hole in the middle. Carpet in bar area very messy with dropped food etc. Bar food very bad value, disappointed that only one dessert was homemade.

Review 131:Staff very helpful, reception area bright and modern.

Review 132:Great service and lovely staff.

Review 133:Nice food. Great staff. Great for stay
