Reviews for Station Hotel
Review 1:staff were all lovely, helpful and always had time to answer any questions. hotel is within 10 minutes walk of town and only 5 mins from station. lovely bar, exceptional breakfast and meals, stunning. room was very large, lovely bed and bathroom.
Review 2:It was cold. The fan in bathroom was making the most horrible noise. The attic tank was above my room and I could hear it filling with water all night.
Review 3:Nice staff
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:The hotel is beside the railway station and five minutes' walk from the town centre. It also has plenty of parking spaces. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. Our room was spacious, with a comfortable sitting area which could be curtained off from the bed and bathroom. We were happy with this hotel!
Review 6:Came here before as we have family members living in the area. We stayed in the lodges again, which are roomy and comfortable. Staff very friendly and attentive without being over the top. Will definitely be back, thank you.
Review 7:We stayed in a roomy lodge, just the job for the 3 of us (mum, dad and 8-year-old). The online pictures don't do the place justice, pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Would definitely consider staying again, thank you.
Review 8:Could not find anything to fault.
Review 9:Excellent - and friendly! - staff, particularly Stan, front of house, who immediately resolved my costly booking error. Stayed in one of the spacious and immaculately clean apartments, with a surprisingly comfortable bed. DO dine in, for the excellent and very reasonably priced menu. On no account miss the full Scottish breakfast!
Review 10:Comfortable room and large bathroom with included toiletries. Enjoyed a drink and delicious meal each evening as well as a good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Review 11:The single room was described as " small " when I was checking in and I was told that a double for single use had just become available , however it was not offered free and I was told it would cost me more therefore I declined. On entering the " small " single room , I quickly realised what was meant by " small " , the room was in an attic space which gave restricted height , not a good thing for someone who is over 6 foot tall , this led to several bumps of the head each time I turned or attempted to use the bathroom. The room did have all you would need , a small desk , T.V . , bed and en suite shower , however it was very small with restricted headroom which I feel could be highlighted before you book it.
Review 12:location was good for me , breakfast was good and serving staff very friendly.
Review 13:Had real difficulty connecting to wi fi. It would connect but cut straight off, signal very poor. Difficulty in understanding one of the waiters at breakfast one morning.
Review 14:We were in the 'chalets' round the back of the hotel. Excellent! There was another building the called the 'Stables' and then there was the main hotel itsel.
Review 15:We had no negative experiences
Review 16:The room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were pleasant and friendly. We also ate there in the evening and enjoyed the diner.
Review 17:only the tea for breakfast could be of better taste, but it may be matter of local preference
Review 18:Room size and bed; bath tub; hotel restaurant and bar; parking; service
Review 19:Poor cooked breakfast choice for vegetarians. Mediocre value at £55 for a single room.
Review 20:V comfortable bed. Liked the chalet/motel style room I was given. V quiet.
Review 21:Not really a bad experience, but we felt the menu was a bit strange and very basic for the price that was being charged.
Review 22:We got a studio room which was fantastic. We were told it was due for an overhaul, but it was perfectly nice the way it was. The door opened out to the car park, so it was very convenient.
Review 23:The free wifi is very intermittent in the suites possibly by location. The decor is a bit tired but these are perhaps reflected by good value for money cost.
Review 24:The suites adjacent to car park are very convenient and more spacious than a typical room with a seating area.
Review 25:We had to step outside the back of the hotel into the hotel car park to access our room.
Review 26:We arrived on a cold winter's day by train. The hotel is only 400 yards from the station. It was warm and the reception was welcoming and helpful. The room was well equipped. The restaurant staff were friendly and the food was good and served quickly. It was good value for a 3-star hotel. .
Review 27:The room was as far away from the restaurant as it is possible to be. Restaurant staff were unhappy with our choice of table, even though the restaurant was empty.
Review 28:The room was large.
Review 29:As we were in the chalet type rooms outside it was necessary for outside lights, however, these shone in our room all night long. Slightly larger curtains would solve the problem.
Review 30:The staff were great. Room comfortable and well decorated. Breakfast and evening meal very well cooked and plenty of variety. I have a preference for a shower but shower over bath was easy to use and quite powerful. Tea and coffee tray good.
Review 31:Could do with sorting out the free wifi, was very patchy & hard to connect.
Review 32:After a comfortable nights sleep The cooked breakfast was absolutely lovely. One of the best hotel breakfasts i've ever had.
Review 33:Rooms 4 and 4A are very small (carved out of 1 room?) but O.K. for 1 night.
Review 34:Friendly helpful staff and welcoming bar area. Great location for railway station.
Review 35:Absolutely nothing
Review 36:Everything , especially having own door for easy access for taking dog out. Know Thurso well as lived here and revisit often. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 37:Son's room had a close up view of a wall - but that is the nature of the location and the fact that it is an old traditional building.
Review 38:Location very convenient Friendly kind staff Useful suggestions from proprietor, e.g. he suggested we took a taxi to Cups Tearoom at Scrabster instead of catching the bus as it would be cheaper - he even called a taxi for us! Nice evening meal Good breakfast All facilities needed for a comfortable stay - thank you.
Review 39:Nothing
Review 40:We were given a family room on ground floor, near exit which was great when you have a dog with you. Friendly staff, clean comfy room. We bit dated but that does not bother us at all.
Review 41:Breakfast was obviously microwaved although the fried egg was cooked to order. I would not have liked to pay £11 for the breakfast.
Review 42:Staff friendly. The central heating in room was excellent and there was always hot water. A comfortable sleep
Review 43:The staff was very friendly. The restaurant, while a bit steep, had excellent food. I recommend the Cullen skink, it was amazing. The room we had was quite ample for the 2 of us, and was quite clean, though rather dated in decor. Overall, really nice place in the middle of Thurso.
Review 44:Room too hot and unable to turn radiator down. Only non meat item on breakfast menu is kippers - and they did not have any. Partner ordered porridge but it never arrived!
Review 45:Location
Review 46:Storage of bikes inside studio bedroom (number 27). Excellent breakfast - lots of fruit and cereal before the cooked breakfast. Early breakfast for catching trains. Ensuite with bath and shower
Review 47:The girl serving breakfast was rude and did not stop complaining. Breakfast expensive and without much choice. Man at reception on checking out thought we were arriving and could not find us on his list of customers.
Review 48:Good central location. Room in the annex, so away from hotel and very quiet. Good bathroom.
Review 49:The room could have been a little cleaner - there was evidence of previous hot drinks having been splashed on the wall near the kettle. However this was the only fault I found with my stay!
Review 50:After a 12 hour rail journey the hotel was only a short, easy walk from the station. The staff were friendly, the room and bed were comfortable, and I was lucky enough to be in a room set back from the road so it was quiet. The breakfast was delicious and a good size ☺
Review 51:This is a hotel in the business of providing accommodation to travellers and this is done efficiently but it lacks the friendly touch.
Review 52:early breakfast, fitting in with Orkney Ferry Times.
Review 53:Breakfasts were poor, pre cooked food dried out before it got to the table. Didn't risk an evening meal as a result!
Review 54:Studio room ideal for dog owners, spacious and well equipped. Access straight from the car park.
Review 55:Young staff at breakfast were a bit inexperienced. Breakfast only until 9 a.m. (although info in room said 9.30 a.m.) - a bit early for people on holiday!
Review 56:Owner on reception was very welcoming, as was lady who booked us a taxi to go to Scrabster. Chalet room very comfortable, well-equipped room and bathroom.
Review 57:The noisy family of birds that didn't sleep and appeared to be nesting outside our window!
Review 58:Close to the scrabster ferry terminal, friendly staff, children welcome, quick breakfast and delicious too.
Review 59:Limited evening menu choice.
Review 60:We had a Chalet room with parking right outside, the room had a separate sitting area so we could watch TV or read on the sofa with a coffee rather than the usual laying on the bed. There was also a desk for my laptop with a good Wifi signal. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was well cooked and served with a smile. This Hotel makes a good base for touring Caithness, we did The Castle of Mae, John O'Groats and the Orkneys during the three days we were there.
Review 61:I booked a single room, but found on arrival that I was in a two bedroom suite with sitting rooms and own kitchen. Presumably I was upgraded to fit in with the hotels other bookings, but it was a very pleasant surprise at no extra cost.
