Reviews for Menlo Park Hotel

Review 1:Bar food only average and staff in carvery not overly friendly. Didnt eat in dining area. Breakfast only average also no fresh fruit on display or much variety with bread.

Review 2:Very comfortable bed amd room nice.

Review 3:This hotel in our opinion was the perfect 10 for comfort and value for money, the nicest hotel breakfast we've ever had and very friendly staff. We're already looking forward to our next stay!

Review 4:The only bad point, is that I go to Galway at least 10 times a year, and most of the time, the hotel is booked out. It's my first choice hotel for Galway. My son loves it too

Review 5:Staff very friendly and hotel was spotless as usual

Review 6:We stayed on the first floor, room 129, there was so much noise coming from the kitchen below until 3.30am , we called the reception desk to advise on same but we didn't receive any feedback, the extractor fans from the kitchen were located directly outside the bedroom window - perhaps this added to the noise pollution - I don' think we would stay at this hotel again, this was our second stay, the first time we stayed it was beautiful, we had a room on the second floor.

Review 7:Staff in the hotel were not friendly or helpful! Everytime I would ask at the bar for a drink or menu bar staff would continue to dry glasses or leave me waiting a long period of time! Staff also just threw my change on the bar.over all I just didn't feel staff seemed happy in there jobs!

Review 8:The rooms were nice and clean

Review 9:Waited ages in hotel bar to get served! Only one staff member on duty for such a busy night...

Review 10:Staff are fantastic and very attentive. The breakfast was unreal, nicest full Irish I've had in a long time. Spotless clean and lovely bright decor.

Review 11:This is an excellent hotel to stay, friendly staff, very clean hotel, fabulous food and gorgeous bedrooms, as we were on honeymoon the hotel upgraded our room to a great suite with a jacuzzi. Would definitly go back again.

Review 12:it took a while to regulate the water in the shower. the shampoo ran out also.

Review 13:comfortable, friendly hotel. Nice bar facilities. Room was spacious and very clean.

Review 14:Unfortunately there was lorry noise at the back of the hotel where our room was located, early in the morning.

Review 15:Our king room was lovely and very good value for €80 including breakfast. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. We had a delicious meal in the bar served by a chatty and friendly waiter. Breakfast was also very good. The city centre was only a 15 minute walk away so we had no problem trying to park. This has been our second stay in your hotel and we would certainly stay again.

Review 16:The room temperature. It was about 40 degrees with the radiators on full. Turned off but could not cool the room down and ended up having a very poor nights sleep. The hotel was great besides but it would be great if the rooms had some form of A/C or at least left the heat off. It's easier to heat them up rather than cool them down as the windows are restricted from opening too far, plus a waste of energy!

Review 17:Food, Staff and Room quality.

Review 18:Very disappointed that they decided to paint the bar on two of the nights we stayed. So there was only a small part of the room opened for the bar which you could hear everybody's conversation.

Review 19:The rooms were lovely

Review 20:we had a lovely time, with a great family feel to the hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful especially the reception staff Christine who went above and beyond with local knowledge of galway and helping me to print out boarding passes, thank you so much xx

Review 21:If we didn't have a car, we would have stayed centrally. It was approx 15-20 minute walk into town but the walk is via large roads which I found a bit depressing but perhaps the rain clouded my judgement.

Review 22:The bed was comfortable and it is always great to have the tea and coffee in a room. Staff were pleasant at check in.

Review 23:Absolutely nothing

Review 24:Everything, it was very clean, comfortable, excellent price , excellent staff, we will most certainly stay there again in the future

Review 25:The shower in the room was difficult to turn on. At first I thought is was not working.

Review 26:The staff were excellent. So very friendly and helpful. They could not have been better. I would return just because of how nice they were.

Review 27:Room spacious, clean and we were on the first floor and very near to the lift. No noise and the bar food was excellent and the lobby very relaxing. Staff - Receptionist, Bar Staff, Restaurant Staff and House Keeping Staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money.

Review 28:Not being able to sleep in room 133 because it was next to a heating pump. Location is set back from one of those roundabouts that Galway City consists of once you get away from the centre.

Review 29:All the staff were very, very good. Arranged change of room in the middle of night as sound of heating pump was stopping me sleeping.

Review 30:Nothing comes to mind

Review 31:Very conveniently located, only minutes by taxi from city centre. Bedroom big and very comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 32:I would like to thank Michelle and Ashling who so kindly refunded us our money when we had to leave Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend had his appendix removed Monday morning! We will be back to finish our weekend in Galway again soon.

Review 33:In the restaurant asked for pepper sauce and got gravy, got serlion instead of fillet. These were fixed and we got free cocktails.

Review 34:The room was modern, clean and comfortable. Great small touches like robes and chocolates. Friendly staff and good location. Good atmosphere in the bar and menu was good.

Review 35:My only complaint would be the bathroom tiles... Very slippery...

Review 36:Enjoyed my stay in this hotel.. Would definitely recommend it and will stay here again in the future....

Review 37:For dinner soup a very watery and salty . Had the same soup at lunchtime was much thicker. I ordered vegetables potatoes with gravy only for main course. I was served with a small side plate of potatoes and vegetables. I would not have presented this size portion to a child

Review 38:Friendly pleasant staff. The staff lady at the breakfast was very helpful. Decent location about 15 minute walk to city centre.

Review 39:No hand soap in the bathroom Heating in bed too went off at 10 pm and was still not back on at 11:30 when I checked out so room was cold

Review 40:Room was comfortable staff friendly food good

Review 41:Poor television reception in rooms. Poor seating arrangements in the bar. Too cold sitting in reception as front door open too much. Rooms cold as the heating was turned off early evening

Review 42:Internet access and free car park

Review 43:Would have liked bath sheets in the bathroom.

Review 44:Had a great stay, staff were very friendly, bedroom really comfy, breakfast was lovely. Overall a top hotel.

Review 45:The staff were so friendly .I took my mum away for a couple of days and we both loved our time there. I had requested a quiet room and we certainly got it. Comfy beds too!

Review 46:Been coming here 3 times a year for the past 2 decades yet at each check in - they always ask "is this your first time with us"? Would be nice to be recognised as a long time previous guest without having to be asked every time which is truly tiresome!! Grumpy old woman rant over...

Review 47:location is perfect for my business calls

Review 48:Room 204 very noisy, as kitchen ventilation is just outside the room. Restaurant meals poor of quality.

Review 49:Room size and room facilities. Breakfast very good and the staff very friendly.

Review 50:Carpet in bedroom was stained needed replacing badly very off putting. breakfast sad to say was awful!!!what is with the orange juice machine not good !!!!

Review 51:Great location lovely friendly staff, large comfortable bedroom, great nights sleep, the bar food was excellent

Review 52:Service in the bar was a little slow.

Review 53:Great location, perfect for going to the football match. Also close to city centre. The girl on reception was so lovely and friendly.

Review 54:Spacious rooms, fantastic Irish breakfast buffet and homemade jam to go with scones, within 15-20 min. walking distance of Galway center (local bus also stops nearby), speedy check in even though we arrived early (offered tea/coffee while waiting for room to be ready), nearby shopping mall, free parking, wish we could have stayed longer than one night!

Review 55:The two young ladies at reception were just wonderful. They were warm, friendly and professional. The young gentleman who served us in the bar was equally so. The room was cosy, comfortable and the facilities were more than perfect for our needs. It was brilliant value for money. We will definitely stay here again.

Review 56:When we checked in we were surprised to see that we don't have light in the bathroom and the sink was blocked too!! Breakfast was acceptable, thats all The furniture is old..old..old So, if you are seventy years old or you want to make a suprise to your grandmother..go there. They aren't child friendly...i couldn't wash my kid's hair..because there was no shower head! For the price we paid..it was a BIG disapointing!!!!!

Review 57:It was quiet

Review 58:Got upgraded to a superior suite for our anniversary. Hotel is gorgeous. Food was great. Short walk from town centre or 6 euro in a taxi. Rooms were spotless. Staff were so lovely. Had an amazing time at this hotel. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

Review 59:Only downside and this is not a complaint only applicable to Menlo. Continental Quilts on bed too heavy making it difficult to sleep.

Review 60:Easily found coming from Dublin, with hotel ddirections on Internet. Reception staff very welcoming & helpful. Nice rooms with lovely en suite. Only had breakfast buffet. Very good.

Review 61:The need to pay lots extra for the KING SIZE bed we booked. Not everyone is less than 5'-10" in height. More consideration of tall people would be appreciated!

Review 62:The KING SIZE bed we booked

Review 63:Not a bad experience but felt dinner in restaurant could have been better. Looked like frozen veg and salad lacked imagination. The Connaught meal was not great.

Review 64:Easy walk into city, staff very friendly. Nice room and comfy bed.

Review 65:The overall look of hotel when you arrive downstairs looks like it could do with a facelift. Nothing a painting job wouldn't fix. Pleasant surprise when you get to room, better condition inside room!!

Review 66:On the first morning at breakfast we were seated beside the buffet so people were queuing at the side of our table. On the second morning we were asked to wait outside for 5-10 minutes until a table was free. Not the best breakfast experience we’ve had in a 4 star hotel, but not a huge issue.

Review 67:Very spacious room, nicely furnished and quiet, as requested. Tea and coffee making facilities, complementary water and a welcome gift of chocolates. Staff at reception very friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast.

Review 68:the only thing was the pillows were a bit hard but didn't stop me from sleeping

Review 69:the room was very good size and lovely big window to front of hotel

Review 70:Be Warned: Shortly after ordering four (thirty’s something) ladies took the table beside ours and probably through a combination of alcohol/bravado/showing off conducted themselves in the most foul, evil, loud mouthed manner, imaginable. It was disgusting and a total disgrace. Our meal was ruined; as was our stay at the Menlo Park. “You can take the man out of the bog, but you can’t take the bog out of the man”. Never again. And I apologise to those staff members who tried so hard to make our stay at the hotel a pleasant experience

Review 71:Easily located of the ring road and with ample parking we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. We stayed in a Superior King room, spacious, well furnished and comfortable, if perhaps slightly dated. The bar is a disappointment, a charmless cavern, though the staff were polite, hard working and friendly. We decided on our second night to dine in a raised area of the bar which gives some separation and privacy. We settled in one corner, quietly away from other diners and thus began one of the most uncomfortable episodes in my entire life

Review 72:We arrived late after attending funeral. There was no food available not even sandwiches which was disappointing

Review 73:Friendly staff. Great breakfast, great room

Review 74:the breakfast was just ok. They ran out of all the hot foods and it took quite some time to replenish.

Review 75:The staff at the desk were so lovely and helpful. They searched online for the tour we wanted, booked it for us and printed out our vouchers. They even called ahead to make sure all was set. They really went out of their way and all with a smile!

Review 76:There was nothing I didn't like about my stay at the Menlo Park Hotel.

Review 77:There was no rush with the check-out time which was lovely - as in some hotels the cleaners are in on top of you putting you under pressure to check out. The Menlo were very easy going in this sense.

Review 78:The staff were very helpful and helping me to find the location of the two workshop I had to attend showing me where the bathroom for people with disabilities was located .

Review 79:I was cold while waiting for meal to be served at wedding

Review 80:Loved the room and the little extras like water, sweets ect,I loved the fact that they had plenty of gluten free options,

Review 81:Very srong musty smell. Major damage water visible on a wall. All windows were opened when we arrived in the evening probably because of the smell.

Review 82:Very friendly staff though we were the latest for dinner. Excellent dinner and breakfast. The way the receptionnist dealt with my complaint about the smell in the room : very professionnal. We appreciated

Review 83:The service in the restaurant was not super attentive and there were not a ton of channels available on the television

Review 84:The shower/bathroom facilities were great. Their great attentiveness to the environment was appreciated as well.

Review 85:The pillows are dreadful. Also there was an event on and people outside, below our window talking loudly info the early hours of the morning .

Review 86:Easy to find and park

Review 87:Nothing. Perhaps a bit far away from the city centre in bad weather

Review 88:We had a great stay, the room was very clean and the bathroom spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast very good

Review 89:Queue of people standing outside dining room waiting for breakfast!!! No explanation given, nowhere to sit while waiting for 20 minutes!! Poor service. No residents bar or facility Nobody on duty at 12.30 pm when we asked a cleaner for a drink he said not possible as bar was locked up .

Review 90:Good location . Friendly staff.

Review 91:Can't find anything to say in a negative sense

Review 92:Goo location. Staff at reception and bar/bistro were friendly and efficient. The fit out and size of room and bathroom were great.

Review 93:I booked the Menlo Park Hotel for one night as a birthday surprise for my partner. I booked a superior room and was upgraded for free to the honeymoon suite. It was amazing, the room was so clean, beautifully decorated and the bed was super comfy! The room also had a jacuzzi bath and a really good shower. We had breakfast in bed the next day which was perfect. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much bother for them. We will definitely be staying again we really enjoyed our time. The only downside was we could only stay one night.

Review 94:Did not find anything that would cause me to complain.

Review 95:I liked the room, the bed was very comfortable, no noise from outside or within the hotel to cause sleep disturbance. Room very clean with excellent shower. Wi-fi easy to set up and worked smoothly. Enjoyed breakfast.

Review 96:Room very warm at night.

Review 97:Quiet room as requested. Both double & single bed in twin room. Bath. Comfortable arm chairs in bedroom. Good meal in the bar.

Review 98:Not in the centre of town, a good 20 min walk where all the restaurants are in the old town near the port.No extra facilities such as pool or gym.

Review 99:Large comfy bed and room. great breakfast and free 24 hour tea/coffee in the lobby area.

Review 100:Non smoking room was over reception. It felt like a smoking room when windows were open as smoking area was located right beneath us.

Review 101:Had some great sleeps and room was big and comfortable.

Review 102:Room was quite dated.

Review 103:Excellent Staff. We had a few issues regarding WiFi, the TV and noise, but the staff were quick to respond and reduced our good bill as a gesture of good will. The receptionist on duty handled this issue brilliantly and the night porter did too.

Review 104:Alas I can not complete the survey as my stay was cut short as I was taken to hospital by ambulance in the early hours of Sunday morning, we were in Galway with Mallow A/C for the Streets of Galway race but because I was not feeling in top form I didn't run, I also missed out on our club night out in Town and returned early to the hotel, However I was very impressed when my husband told me that a member of staff rang him to enquire about my health and offered to keep the room for him if needed, it was very thoughtful of you and Thankyou for that. We eventually got back to Mallow at 7pm on Sunday.... Not exactly the relaxing week end we had in mind, but all is well

Review 105:I really liked the extra touches that make this hotel an exceptional 4 star such as their turn down service . Their bathrooms have excellent facilities and they will provide a robe on request.

Review 106:The location and the hotel itself have no charm. The food in the bar was quite poor

Review 107:big room with a lot of space and very confortable bed. Staff was very friendly. Bar with live music

Review 108:There is nothing bad to report, but the hotel is a bit of a walk on busy streets to the downtown area. This is more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel.

Review 109:It's a good 30 minute walk to main shops, not good if it's raining (as it did most of our 2 days). There's a bus stop at the door.

Review 110:Room and bed were huge. Staff helpful.

Review 111:Food could have been hotter. Buffet breakfast really not up to scratch. There is a menu option though which clearly was better

Review 112:Room was clean and comfortsble.Ask for room not near lift of fire door though

Review 113:Noisy, wifi didn't work well in room, pricey, not within walking disance to city center

Review 114:Hotel easy to find, large pub, elevator (no carrying bags upstairs!), large rooms, easy parking

Review 115:While I couldn't fault anything I just feel if there was a spa or pool or grounds it would be a perfect hotel for a relaxing break

Review 116:Staff were very pleasant hotel was spotless clean bed really comfy and food was good great value for money

Review 117:We liked the size of the room, and the facilities were good. Their was some noise from a wedding until the early hours, but that was ok, although we didn't appreciate other guest talking loudly in the corridors in the early hours Sat morning.

Review 118:Although it was summer (we were in Ireland). The heating in the room could be controlled by the guest but as it was "summer" the heating was switched off centrally and the rooms were a bit chilly. We asked for the heating to be put on in our rooms which it was on the first day....then we were told the heating is controlled in blocks and they would give us an electric heater instead - that would have been fine if the heater had been big enough to heat the room but it wasn't....

Review 119:I was travelling with my parents who are in there 70's so it was perfect for us (apart from the heating)....not too busy, no weddings while we were there and very good breakfast.

Review 120:We had a wonderful large room with a king size bed. The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub and shower. Free wifi-staff were very helpful as well with advice for eating and events to go to!

Review 121:Came to breakfast at a few minutes past 10, and we were told breakfast was over, although we had not seen or heard anywhere that it finished at 10. However, we still had a very nice breakfast of fruit, cereal, pastries, tea etc, so we didn't miss the cooked breakfast.

Review 122:Very nice spacious bedroom. Good comfortable bed. Clean bathroom with strong shower. Nice friendly bar downstairs.

Review 123:check out slightly hindered by a large group of guests monopolising both the breakfast room and reception area.

Review 124:Friendly and helpful staff, convenient location. Clean and comfortable room.

Review 125:Argument with reception staff and on duty manager about paying for the room I had not seen. This was unprecedented from our travels around Ireland and shows a lack of trust in the honesty of guests. Convoluted discussion about credit/debit card verification all in front of other guests and spoiled our arrival.

Review 126:Nice clean room and towels.

Review 127:Did not like room. The breakfast we got via card for room service was not what we asked for, just anything put on plate and was cold, tea and coffee freezing. Didnt bother getting breakfast in hotel second morn because of this even though it was included in price.

Review 128:We loved this hotel, friendly staff, great room and tasty breakfast!! Would definitely stay again. Even left a chocolate fudge cake for my Husbands 40th :)

Review 129:Great location for getting to downtown Galway and for a day trip to Connemara. The staff was helpful with directions - telling us a great place to park (next to the Gardia.)
