Reviews for Cock Hotel

Review 1:We arranged to meet a lot of friends there after moving to Australia 10 years ago and the owners were lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for us, very chatty and interesting. It was a great night!

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:Such a suprise to be honest. When you arrive it looks like a tiny corner pub, nothing much. However do not judge a book by its covery. Inside is warm friendly and the room well that we the best suprise of all. It was massive. With a grand very beautiful bathroom. Huge bed. Beautifully decorated and has all you need. I would stay again in a heart beat. The lovely couple sho own the pub were so lovely also.

Review 4:Wifi was horrendous to non existent and I really needed it for work. Little things spoil it for me, like at breakfast time there were no newspapers for guests and it was silent, newspapers on the table and a little background music would of been perfect. However I must say, Liz was a fantastic lady, polite and welcoming. I would definitely stay there again if the wifi was up to scratch, that's the only reason why I won't be, which is a shame because I'm in the area every week now. Place is a little decieving from the outside but the rooms were really really nice, miles better than a travelodge. Food iand beer is also very very good.

Review 5:The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Review 6:Checking in was odd: waited a while at the desk than rang the (loud) bell. After another couple of minutes the proprietor's unsmiling head appeared (very) briefly and barked, "Wait a minute". I was quite happy to wait actually but this performance was clearly intended for the locals at the bar, to make them feel they were a priority over strangers trying to check in. When eventually he reappeared and the bar-show was over, he was politeness, apologies and charm itself. Improvement suggestion: just appear briefly and say something friendly like, "I'll be with you in just a moment". No problem.

Review 7:Superb value for money and great room, evening meal and breakfast - and a lovely change from the chain hotels.

Review 8:The hosts were very friendly, they clearly liked their job and dideverything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The Pub atmosphere wasvery relaxing and the homemade pies were delicious.

Review 9:Nothing, all good

Review 10:We went there for the weekend to use as a base for sight seeing, we were pleasantly suprised as to how nice it was, excellent managment and staff, amazing range of real ales and a breakfast to feed an army on, well worth a visit

Review 11:TV had no reception from Freeview box, but a trip to reception probably would have resolved this.

Review 12:Staff could not do enough to help & the room was very comfy with my buzzy

Review 13:Bed was very soft (you could feel the springs), so not great if you have a bad back like me. No fresh fruit of any kind at breakfast and only vanilla yoghurt. Street a bit noisy with traffic but didn't bother us.Would stay again if not for the bed.

Review 14:Spotless, huge new bathroom, walk-inn closet, Peter is a lovely man.We got lost in Birmingham and arrived very late on a Sunday night, and they were wonderful. Nice pub.

Review 15:Warm welcome..lovely room ..very clean and lots of extra little touches.. bottles of water, biscuits. .shampoos etc.. Overall a wonderful stay. Breakfast was incredibly good!!

Review 16:Leaving

Review 17:Liz & Peter are the perfect hosts, they offer a great unbeatable service and a proper pub not jukebox or bright lights. The breakfast' are freshly cooked to perfection using local produce

Review 20:We had a very comfortable stay and were well looked after. The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and we had a huge comfortable bed. We would certainly stay again.

Review 21:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Peter and Liz are great hosts. Room was great with a proper king size bed and beautiful bathroom. Food was also very good.

Review 22:The landlord and landlady: Peter and Liz Arden were exceptional hosts. Very friendly and attentive, all delivered with great sense of humour! With 8 real ales and a selection of Belgium beers to choose from this CAMRA backed Inn was a delight to find.

Review 23:We loved everything and would like to stay again.

Review 24:The hosts couldn't have been more pleasant and welcoming. The room and en suite, although on the small side, had a king sized bed that was REALLY comfy, we slept like logs. The food is exceptional, and the breakfast filled us for the day. Recommended.

Review 25:Nothing which would deter us from coming back next year!

Review 26:Comfortable accommodation with character which does not fit the 'square corporate box' style. Hosts work hard to cater for your needs and the popularity of the bars at night show they are doing something right. Good parking, WiFi, and a superb selection of real ale. Good simple evening meals are available and are excellent quality and value. Short walk into town or train station and many places to visit close by.

Review 27:We couldn't connect to the WiFi, but had been warned that it may need rebooting. We didn't end up asking them to reboot it, as we didn't really need it anyway.

Review 28:The couple who own/run this hotel are really lovely and went the extra mile to make our stay a good one. The attention to detail was a great touch throughout.

Review 29:This is what i call a proper pub, if you like real ales and great value food this is a must visit pub. Landlord, landlady and staff were all very friendly.

Review 30:The pub itself is what I would call a real pub, good selection of well kept ales, no music or pool table. Basic menu but well cooked food. A hot tasty breakfast in the morning. Accommodation spacious, warm, comfortable and clean with a spotlessly clean bathroom. Loveley, helpful, friendly hosts.Could not fault the whole stay

Review 31:Nothing - all good!

Review 35:Nothing, paid a lot more for a lot less.

Review 36:Old inn full of character, thriving bar with range of beers and small but adequate bar menu well presented. Room was spacious with en-suite and wi-fi. Staff very friendly. Being an old building and a bit of a warren it was helpful to have emergency procedures explained.

Review 37:On arrival made to feel very welcome. Room was large and comfortable. Plenty of parking and a lovely outside seating area. Breakfast was very good with meat coming from local butcher. They have recently started doing food at night, served in the bar, which was extremely tasty.

Review 38:Small bathroom.

Review 39:We were researching a cycling weekend for our Club. We had probably the biggest bed we have ever seen and breakfast was excellent. Evening meal options had run out so we did not eat there.

Review 40:The outside condition of the building looked in need of some work.BUT....don't judge the book by its cover!

Review 41:A traditional pub with fantastic real ales. No wonder The Old Cock haswon so many awards. The place had great character and the rooms werevery good. Very good food and breakfast was Yum with fresh coffee. Goodparking.I Would the recommend the place to anyone staying in Wellington.

Review 97:Having to leave.

Review 98:This one of the best places that I've ever stayed in the UK: Lovely room and super veggie breakfast. In the bar, excellent choice of well kept real ales, some very nice wine, my favourite make of crisps, no music, no one-arm bandits, no television, just good beer and good conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. All staff are attentive, polite and eager to please. It's rare nowadays that you get such good qualities all together in one place. I wish other hotels were even half as good as this.

Review 99:No problems

Review 100:Clean and comfortable accommodation above an excellent pub selling a range of good beers. Pleasant staff and a good location for exploring an interesting area.

Review 101:Nothing - so much more character than a corporate square box!

Review 102:Loved the room, large comfy bed, great breakfast and excellent beer. Plenty of safe parking for our classic american car. WiFi was excellent. We thought the atmosphere in the bar in the evening was spot on with new beers appearing very frequently - a nice surprise on Sunday evening was a lovely free plate of chips! The proprietors could not do enough to help and made extra breakfasts for our daughter and partner when they popped over. Shame we only had 5 days - we are already planning to return. 10 minutes walk into town.

Review 103:The cock hotel does not serve any food but there are other places in thevicinity which offer meals.

Review 104:A warm welcome, the comfortable, recently refurbished room and the verytasty and fresh cooked to order breakfast.

Review 105:Nothing really to dislike. Outside appearance was a bit off putting, but it is a listed building in the town centre.

Review 106:The owners extremely welcoming and room and facilities very nice. Excellent breakfast. The real ale pub is a plus I think.

Review 107:The proprietors are friendly and very helpful. The rooms have been verywell refurbished, and are modern and comfortable. Breakfast was freshlycooked, sourced from the butcher, and delicious. I was even sent on myway with a present of a locally made pork pie. All in all The Cock Hotelis unbelievably good value.

Review 108:Outside was areal put off at first, however listed buildings need a lot of expense to facelift and owners have spent wisely in upgrading the accommodation first. Don't let it put you off.

Review 109:A very pleasant surprise in store when you see the rooms. Excellent quality in all aspects. Add to that a quality breakfast and value for money is more than met. Owners are friendly and make you feel very welcome. CAMRA pub with no food, but owners very happy to point to eateries to meet your needs.....then return later for a real pint before bed. Hard to beat.
