Reviews for Machiavelli Palace

Review 1:practicall all. The rooms are old, not pretty and not well furnished. The noise of other roooms, like buzzing or even the noise done by the taps or by the flushing are disturbing the sleep, as well the noise from Street in front of the room. The location is closed to the train station and full of gipsies and blacks and drunk people. I left the structure 2 nights before to move inother hotel and they charged to me the entire price despite i told all my disappointment. Bravi!!!Congratulations! To highlight taht is very expensive!

Review 2:acceptable the breakfast

Review 3:Staff was always very friendly, breakfast was included in the price and was a traditional Italian continental breakfast but always tasted fresh. Hotel location is within a ten minute walk from the train station and is in the heart of Florence, making site seeing very easy.

Review 4:Convenient location for sights and near train station for trip to Pisa. Friendly staff provided me with a kettle for morning/evening tea. Liked the balcony.

Review 5:There is a loud sound from the pipes within or behind the wall on one side of the room, probably the sound transferred from the water pump or water heater located somewhere in the hotel but transferred through the pipes. The "gurgling/flushing/roaring" sound occurred randomly, sometimes every 5 minutes or so, is so loud and sudden that you will jump from your seat everytime it happened. This usually happens early evening but could be all day since I'm out of the hotel during the day. The bathroom is big but the shower is too tight. You can barely turn around or extend you arms while inside. The shower curtain rail is broken - you can't slide the curtains without having to hold the bottom attached to the rail. Buffet breakfast does not have warm food like scrambled eggs or sausages.

Review 6:The location of he hotel is excellent, just a short walk to and from Firenze SM Novella train station if you are travelling by train from and to other cities. It is also walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions and shopping areas.

Review 7:The breakfast was plentiful, but poor quality, expecially coffe ad cappuccino, and the breakfast room was too small.

Review 8:The sleeping room was really good, recently refurbished and very clean. Macchiavelly Palace is actually a four stars hotel (except for the breakfast...)

Review 9:nothing to complain about.

Review 10:Perfect! Everything including a room, location, meal, and staffs was pretty nice. Staffs were helpful, they helped me kindly when I had a small problem on such as wifi.

Review 11:1. The breakfast was not managed properly, highly unprofessional. We went to the breakfast room 45 minutes before the closing time still most of the items were not there and were told they are bringing them. We waited and in the next 15 to 20 min people started queing up. We didn't get anything substantial because a couple of folks filled their plates with whatever they could. Sharp at closing time they started cleaning the tables and we just had some coffee and juice and left. 2.Some of the furniture in the room looked pretty old and dilapidated.

Review 12:Very convenient location.

Review 13:We loved it, the staff was really helpful and polite, our room was really good, big bathroom, clean room, which was cleaned every day, comfortable bed, good and fresh breakfast. And next time we are in florence we will stay there again :) Super!

Review 14:bed mattress a beat too hard

Review 15:Great location, friendly staff, great view from the 5th floor rooms. Tasty breakfast. Very close to the train station and the convention center. Great food to eat nearby.

Review 16:Bathroom, shower very small space

Review 17:very good location, 2 minutes from the Medici Chapel, near the central market, with easy access to the train station and bus stop to / from airport

Review 18:Shower too small - would be impossible for a large person. Walls allow noise from adjoining rooms.

Review 19:Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, good value

Review 20:Poor room layout, tripped over TV to enter bath room, could be easily modified. Antiquated room key security drop off system.

Review 21:Good location, nice breakfast area.

Review 22:The wifi was unstable. It kept disconnecting and reconnecting which at times became frustrating.

Review 23:Great location. Helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Everything was pretty good.

Review 24:We had asked for a twin room with a view of Florence, which we got. But unfortunately for my friend and I the twin beds were child size and incredibly hard. When we rang down to reception and told them they came up with two extra blankets to put on the mattress, which was rather comical to say the least however, the next morning they did put memory foam toppers on our beds which made all the difference to the comfort but not the size!!! This was really the only downer on a otherwise perfect five days. Oh and the noise of the lift (very close to our room).

Review 25:Location was excellent (3 min walk from train station and town centre Staff very helpful and friendly Breakfast good although it was the same every day View from our room was fantastic Room was cleaned everyday Bed sheets changed everyday

Review 26:Not exactly palatial as the name implies Awful sewage smell permeating in the room Toilet was cramped The room was not as sparkling as we expected but linen and bathroom were clean enough.

Review 27:Location Breakfast Large balcony where we could sit

Review 28:2 blocks from train station. Mercato Central 3 blocks away. Numerous restaurants within short walk, Breakfast included. Meats and cheeses, pastries,2 coffee machines dispensing Espresso to Americano. Helpful and pleasant staff.

Review 29:The ONLY slight issue was the size of the shower (760x760) which had a wrap around curtain door - the shower itself was great, but it was very difficult to move inside the unit. Bigger folk would have a real problem.

Review 30:Location, friendly staff, good sized room, clean, good breakfast, good facilities, lovely view of the Duomo from our balcony (4th floor) great value for money - overall a very decent place to stay. In a city that has masses of choice, at all budgets, I would be happy to stay there again.

Review 31:No issues

Review 32:The staff was very helpful in getting us our museum tickets and a bus tour.. Lovely hotel, and outside garden. Rugs a little worse for the wear. Very convenient, right on hotel row, everything in walking distance. Very nice staff and breakfasts.

Review 33:Some of the staff not friendly in particular lady with blonde hair. No welcome from her very matter of fact and sometimes lacked patience and the friendly approach. Hotel a little run down for the amount charged. Two rooms were booked and paid for with the stipulation of balcony or 15th century ceiling.Only got the balcony with one room.

Review 34:Location. Balcony.

Review 35:The bed covers did not seem clean. The shower in room 202 is too small.

Review 36:Mostly the staff. As a solo traveler, I need to feel that people are ready to assist me. During my stay this past week, I was not feeling well and I had to visit the pharmacy at midnight. The front desk gentleman offered to make hot tea. That was helpful. Front desk staff was quick to assist me with booking tours and reservations also.

Review 37:Breakfast could be better. Would appreciate glasses in the room. Toiletries a bit skimpy.

Review 38:Sunny room. pleasant staff Appreciated the gesture of biscotti on arrival and wine on departure.

Review 39:It is an old hotel, so our bathroom was small. Our room had a walk-out balcony, but we did not make use of it. We would rather have had room to move around in the shower and the bathroom itself. There was no where to put our toiletries, so we used the bidet for that purpose.

Review 40:The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is close to the train station and not a long walk to the places of interest. Great buffet breakfast.

Review 41:The Internet was a little hit and miss, but they were very quick to rectify it. The lack of a good seal on the fridge door meant we couldn't rely on it to keep items cold, luckily their customer service overshadowed any small flaws.

Review 42:Wonderful Staff, friendly, efficient, very accommodating. The porter and breakfast staff deserve a special mention. Great customer service all round and a comfortable stay. Would stay here again and recommend it to fellow travellers.

Review 43:Ideally situated. Near the train terminal & 10 minutes walk to the Duomo . Good restaurants & icecream parlour nearby. I wish we had stayed longer but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked. Highly recommended. Will stay there again

Review 44:STICKY ROOM DOOR, GENERAL APPEARENCE LOOKS OLD (COMMON AREAS AND ROOM), BATHROOM TOWELS NOT TERRY (EXCEPT ONELARGE BATH TOWEL)

Review 45:GOOD BREAKFAST ROOM AND CHOICE OF FOOD.

Review 46:Beds r a little to firm. The toilet was had a little technical difficulty in flushing but otherwise functioned fine.

Review 47:Great location, helpful & friendly staff. Rooms are up to date & comforting.

Review 48:The hotel made an error with our booking and charged us for a second room. They were extremely rude and unhelpful with rectifying this error. Extremely disappointing.

Review 49:The location of the hotel was the only positive part of this stay.

Review 50:your staff charged our room to some one else and charged us as well for the room and when we bought it to their attention they said it was our fault because we had the same initials lucky for them it was my daughter in law ,yet we got no apology for their mistake we will not recommend your hotel to our family or friends

Review 51:We were extremely disappointed with our stay in this hotel. The wifi didnt work at all. The mini-fridge didnt work at all. The tv did not work either. But the worst part was the toilets: there were dirty spots on the toilet and the shower and hair on the floor! It was unbelievable. To make bad matters worse the water was ponding in the shower. Considering the service delivered, the hotel is totally overpriced.

Review 52:Paper thin walls. You can hear a lot of what is going on in the rooms around you.

Review 53:Good location and decent breakfast. Balcony off the rooms can be great if you get some facing the Duomo.

Review 54:Patchy WiFi and annoying login system evertime the WiFi was used.

Review 55:Well located to all the main attractions and transport routes.everything within easy walking distance.

Review 56:The bathroom plumbing - facilities worked perfectly, no problems... It was just that the bathrooms of neighbouring rooms were not sound proof...so sometimes disturbing first thing in a morning and last thing at night. A shame as everything else was great.

Review 57:This place is just around the corner from the markets, great restaurants and bars.... A step away from the stations and just a short stroll from the cathedral and shops! Shops!!shops!!!

Review 58:The only criticism I have to make is that there was no drawer space for small clothes. We were travelling light so did not have any hanging clothes.

Review 59:The location was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. The room was very good with an excellent bathroom. it was in a quiet location too.

Review 60:Located at the centre of city, easy access to tourists hot spots. Close to train station/ bus stops Nice, helpful staff. Very tasty cookies (on the house), and a bottle of wine too!! Yum Yum. Breakfast good food, many choices, quick refill, with many fruits. Yum Yum. Friendly staff.

Review 61:The staff at the breakfast and the breakfast by themselves was just so so.

Review 62:Very friendly reception ! The size of the room was great in comparison to other hotels we know in italy! Good location in walking distance to all sights.

Review 63:Any room near the elevator shaft had constant drone of the machinery, which included a loud thump EVERY time the elevator stopped. This started at 6:00 a.m. Bathroom sink stopped up; notified front desk, but no one ever fixed it.

Review 64:Location, balcony, air conditioning

Review 65:Breakfast was mediocre - recommend adding some hot dishes such as scrambled eggs or bacon strips or biscuits/gravy. Suggest putting more emphasis on room decor and amenities..update the place from the current 1990s look. Add more value to your product for the customer.

Review 66:For our needs, the location was good. Also liked having the hot water on demand - it never ran out.

Review 67:A big problem with wifi hot water and shower pressure.

Review 68:The position. Close to the train station and market area and shopping streets. A short walk to the Duomo.

Review 69:The bed was really hard, Door difficult to unlock at times and wifi was intermittent and weak.

Review 70:The location and cleanliness of the room were marvellous. Staff were helpful. Water pressure in the shower was good.

Review 71:We requested a room with a view on a top floor which we got. Loved our room size, the view and above all the quietness which made it an ideal holiday.

Review 72:The staff was very welcoming, efficient and helpful. The room was very nice and comfortable, also nice air conditioning. The staff let us keep our luggage at the hotel briefly after we had checked out so that we could take in the sights for a little while longer before our train left Florence. I highly recommend this hotel! Good location for catching the train too.

Review 73:The wi-fi was dreadful, the bed was uncomfortable as it was two singles pushed together, the AC leaked and the tiles around the shower were dirty. When having a shower the shower head repeatedly fell down and hit my husband on the head and whenever someone (could have been anywhere in the hotel) flushed the toilet the water temperature in the shower got scalding hot.

Review 74:The staff were lovely! Breakfast was ok. AC was available.

Review 75:The wifi could have been a bit stronger, but for the most part it worked fine.

Review 76:The location of this hotel was great. Close to the train station and in an area where there were restaurants and shops around the corner. We used this hotel as our "hub" in Italy. We ended up asking to stay three more days and the staff was wonderful about letting us stay in the same hotel room. They also kept our backpacks for us so we didn't have to carry them around all day. The room was great and we loved the little patio. After a long day of exploring, we would sit out there with a bottle of wine and just relax.

Review 77:WiFi kept going off andon, requiring yet another tedious log into the secured network of the hotel. Shower curtain did not completely enclose the microscopic shower stall, leading to water on the bathroom floor. If you are 6', or taller, the commode might not be appropriate for you. Cable has 25 channels, but only CNN is English. Hotel is very squeaky clean and staff are friendly and helpful. S good place to stay.

Review 78:Wi Fi was intermittent Breakfast could be better (more fresh fruit) Was expecting a good Italian cappuccino and not very good.

Review 79:Location Internal quiet room

Review 80:The walls in room needed to be painted and some of the furniture (bedside tables and chairs) was shabby but beds and bathroom were very good

Review 81:The staff was efficient and friendly and while not overly solicitous was responsive and helpful when asked

Review 82:Bed was so horribly hard and the bathroom was a little bit tiny

Review 83:Fabulous location near the station with only a short walk to the Duomo, markets and sights. Lovely staff too

Review 84:Public spaces could be updated. Decor is old and tired.

Review 85:It was fashion week so everything was booked. Used airport WiFi and booked single Room. Great for only 59€. Great pizza place across the street. One half block from train station.

Review 86:Air conditioner was not cold enough. Hair dryer wasn't strong enough. Front desk staff always looked stressed. They never smiled.

Review 87:Location was perfect.

Review 88:Nothing to say.

Review 89:Amazing place for a very reasonable price. Super clean, everything is thought thru, cozy, comfortable beds and everything is done with an artistic touch. I had a room with a huge balcony where it was to hang out in the evening. Super very close to the main train station, airport shuttle stop, and the Duomo square. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Review 90:Poor wifi, the main entrance to the hotel.

Review 91:Reception staff, complimentary small wine in the room, nice view from balcony, tasty breakfast. It is close to the station, which is never nice neighbourhoods, but this time we were really glad about the location.

Review 92:The room was very warm even with the AC running. At times the staff seemed very frustrated with the computer system and phone lines.

Review 93:The location was great! Wonderful restaurant recommendations. Complementary bottle of wine and biscotti.

Review 94:The beds were a little uncomfortable

Review 95:We stayed here 2 nights. The staff was great and very professional. Rooms were very clean and the location was awesome! We would stay here any time again.

Review 96:The bed was hard, the room furnishings were tired, the bathroom was so small you couldn't move around. The air conditioning wasn't strong enough and the elevator didn't always work. It's not a palace and displays it's one star at the front.

Review 97:Parking was easy. Pricey, but easy as once you find it, you unload at the front door and they call the parking garage to pick up. E25.50/day and you can pay by credit card.

Review 98:I have to give this hotel an honest 10, from Marco at the front desk to everything else. After travelling for 2 months, this was a pleasure to return to. Located on a side street close to the train/bus stations, I was unsure of the neighborhood, but it was on a very nice street, lots of small restaurants located nearby, the big market is close, and it is an easy walk to the main sites. I have no negatives about this hotel whatsoever. In a city where we expected noise, there was none at all. Lovely large bathroom. It will stay on my list for future travels, for sure. Kristine and Santiago

Review 99:Nothing that comes to mind as of now.

Review 100:1. Location with in 300 mts from Florence train station 2. Central place to reach all possible places to visit. 3. Next to a big street market. 4. A night shop right across the corner at least until 12 pm. 5. Supreme bfast. 6. Very humble, knowledgeable and English speaking staff.

Review 101:The WiFi didn't work for 2 days and we had to go next door to use it. Breakfast was basic with no hot food.

Review 102:The location close to the train station and the main center of Florence. Everything was walking distance. Our room was very quiet and basic. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again just for the convenience.

Review 103:Staff efficiency. I asked for documents to be printed for me which never were delivered and when I locked myself out of my room, nobody turned up to open (even though Reception said they would send somebody)

Review 104:Breakfast was very good, better than I expected

Review 105:Room is small and not very functional for a business traveller (but that is true of most hotels in Florence). Shower cubicle was tiny.

Review 106:Excellent location, decent breakfast, friendly staff. Nice complimentary cookies.

Review 107:Just a short walk from railway station(don't get a cab easy 2 blocks with heavy bags) but very quiet area. Spacious room with a roof top view of florence.Close stroll to all atractions Staff very friendly helpfull

Review 108:There was no hot water and no compensation. Bed n hot shower are what we pay for. The room was extremely small for 2 friends traveling.

Review 109:The staff was helpful and the breakfast was great.

Review 110:The wifi was very unstable and seriously needs to be updated. The toilet in our room was hopeless...it would not flush properly.

Review 111:It was very close to the train station and tourists sites. A charming city with lots to offer.

Review 112:The water was noisy in the toilet next room at night. It woke us up during our sleep.

Review 113:The staffs are kind and very helpful. We asked to leave our big luggages for an overnight trip to Venice and they are so kind to help which was very helpful. Thank you very much. The breakfast was plenty. Thank you.

Review 114:Was delighted to find I had been given a single room on the 5th floor with my own terrace, and amazing view of the Duomo.....just perfect! Extremely convenient location, clean, comfortable. Characterful hotel and very reasonably priced.

Review 115:Nothing really, get what you pay for!

Review 116:Loved dropping luggage 5 min after departing train and getting on with enjoying fab Florence, then grab luggage 15 min pre next train to Venice.

Review 117:Decor getting a little tired. Unfortunately no parking except in nearby private garage which was very expensive.(50 euro a night)

Review 118:Close walking distance from all the main attractions. Rooms of generous size and good facilities.

Review 119:The hotel was in easy walking distance of all of Florence's many attractions as well as restaurants and parks. We were on the third floor at the back. The view from our window included the Duomo. There was also a terrace on this floor where we could relax and enjoy beer or wine after a day of sightseeing before going out for dinner. On our final day, we had a late train and were able to leave our luggage.

Review 120:Loved the proximity to sights...grocery store...we had picnics on the patio which overlooked the Duomo. The room was clean...the bathroom was spotless. Nothing fancy..but just the right place for a casual Italian getaway. The hotel offered assistance with booking tickets ... very accommodating.

Review 121:We loved the location, the size of the room, the quality of the service, the linen, the style of the hotel and we also liked the breakfast. Easy walking to everything and just around the corner from the market which was great for food at night.

Review 122:The location of the hotel was perfect as it is close to the Duomo as well as close to a parking house (as we travelled by rental car). The staff was extremely supportive and contributed greatly to give us a fantastic stay in Firenze.

Review 123:No cooked breakfast, but food provided was sumptous. We were provided with a big room facing the main road. The small heater could not keep us warm enough during the cold winter. Reception staffs operated to a varying range of service standards

Review 124:Easy location to find the hotel upon arrival by train and the short walk to major tourist sites take you through many interesting shops. Proximity to pick up points for most daily tours.

Review 125:One evening when we came back to the hotel we found our door opened! Everything was ok but it was very uncomfortable.

Review 126:We liked the location. Cery close th o the train station.

Review 127:It is an older hotel so facilities were a bit dated but still in good working order so no major complaints.

Review 128:This hotel is in a great location! It is near the train station and all major attractions. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast was a standard hotel breakfast but still quite enjoyable. My room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 129:We had asked for double bed but then we were provided two single beds joined, together. I dont know what is the definition of a double bed in Italy. This was the case everywhere in Italy.

Review 130:Location is close to the station and to most of the places of interest. The buffet was sumptuous.

Review 131:The room facilities were old.

Review 132:It was close to the station and easy to find. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was delicious. I wonder why such a nice hotel was so cheap.

The Fine Print

Please note the city tax must be paid in cash. The hotel always pre-authorizes credit cards prior to arrival.
