Reviews for Galway Bay Hotel Conference & Leisure Centre
Review 1:My partner wasn't well so spent a lot of time in the bedroom where she found it far too cold; just one, non-adjustable, timed heater panel in the room and no heating in the small bathroom. Wardrobe space far too small and nowhere to hang our surplus clothes. Much disturbance from other rowdy guests - even one knocking at our door at 03.00 am soon after the short but false fire alarm. This place is OK for groups but not for quiet, individual guests
Review 2:Location is good - overlooking he sea about 3 miles north of Galway city centre. Good parking below and at ground level. Bus stop adjacent. Food all right for such a large sleeping/feeding machine but little 'character'!
Review 3:When trying to watch news in bar background music playing we were the only people in bar with one other no need for music to be do loud
Review 4:Staff v polite and helpful breakfast was v good
Review 5:Beautiful room overlooking Galway Bay- just what we asked for . We were only staying one night but stayed an extra night because we found the hotel restful.
Review 6:Really enjoyed our new years eve 2 night stay at the galway bay hotel . Our 4 year old daughter loved the penguin kids club which kept her entertained. The staff in the kids club were fantastic.
Review 7:We went for new year but it was a big diddapointment , the band were like robots had no personality and didnt get the ordiance involved there was no atmosphere , paid a lot of money to stay two nights didnt live up to what they had adverstised
Review 8:Staff were very professional and friendly
Review 9:We had a problem with safe Entered incorrect code but had to wait over hour and second call to reception before somebody came to open Minor problem really
Review 10:Staff were friendly Room was comfortable Breakfast was good but extra as room rate 130 did not include breakfast
Review 11:Getting the bed comfortabe for my wife would have been the only issue. Our preference is king size bed and soft. A lot of hotels could do with upgrading their beds.
Review 12:The hotel was well situated. The staff efficient, helpful and friendly. As my wife is semi-disabled house keeping bent over backwards to re arrange the room to suit and supply extra bedding to make the bed more comfortable to lie on. The food was excellent in the inhouse bar/pub. As we had two dogs with us it was very convenient to the beach and the park next door to exercise them. We would definitely be happy to revisit again sometime. The only down side was dogs not allowed in guests room. There are only 85 hotels in Ireland that allow dogs. Hotels need to review this issue. A lot of people out there nowadays who want to take their pets with them Our dogs don't cast hair and are washed and groomed on a regular basis
Review 13:Really liked the large room which had a great view of Galway Bay,a lovely bed and two very comfortable armchairs. The staff were friendly and the bar food was delicious.
Review 14:Nothing it was all good
Review 15:Hotel staff especially Katherine on reception were excellent. Lovely room, good breakfast, great facilities, would definitely come back again.
Review 16:The Restaurant spoiled the whole stay-kids spag bol wouldn't eat even a dog, stake was overdone, desserts were homemade but missed the homemade taste (especially cheesecake, creme brule was partly burned and partly not caramelized, presentation wasn't great either and the price of it will knock you off at the end!). Award winning Lobster restaurant had a sad looking empty lobster tank, seems like the lobster was away on sunny holidays, so was the head Sheff). Oh and don't even start me on breakfast ...dried up buffet, horrible coffee (which we even had to wait the whole breakfast).
Review 17:Fab location, pleasant and helpful staff, comfy rooms, nice leisure centre. And after saying so many bad things about the restaurant I feel like saying something good - my pork's belly was tasty.
Review 18:Booked 3 rooms for dad 70 birthday. Booked meal in restaurant for 7 people and had booked cake.service in restaurant was very poor. Cake arrived 25 mins late when we asked staff several times. Asked for tea got pot no cup as with coffee. Staff seemed very unprofessional for a restaurant with meal price of 35 per head would expect much better standard. Inefficient left night a non event and disgruntled .should have been a celebration. Very disappointed.
Review 19:Breakfast was very good and we'll organised by staff
Review 20:Only bad point was breakfast @11.50euros per person extra is a bit pricey, considering if you have dinner or lunch there also.
Review 21:Very nice hotel, clean and very helpful staff. The Carvery lunch was really tasty and i would have liked to stay longer.
Review 22:Toasted sandwiches were badly burned and expensive.
Review 23:Everything accept the Bar Premices.Bar staff were brilliant, but the Premices is really outdated,no natural light. We went else where to have a few drinks.
Review 24:they had just put up their christmas decorations and the place just looked so inviting, cosy, bright and warm. the kids and myself especially loved the leisure centre, so clean, warm, and yet just big enough for the guests to enjoy. food was lovely. you felt like a valued customer as soon as you arrived and thats what really made all the difference to me.
Review 25:My two night stay in Galway Bay was a pleasant relaxing experience. I enjoyed the size and style of the room . Food was also exceptional pleasing as was the service in the restaurant.
Review 26:The hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere with plenty of areas to sit back and watch the world go by. Meal times and choice meant there was no rush for breakfast or dinner.
Review 27:The approach to the reception up the side of the hotel could be improved for pedestrians - it's not all that well lit and there is no footpath - it lets the rest of the facilities down.
Review 28:The leisure centre area had no steam room, also as guests had to pay for swim hats.
Review 29:Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and delicious.
Review 30:drunken man in room beside me at 04.30 a.m. very abusive towards partner, and loud, kicking the door, etc., it went on for at least 40 minutes and hotel done nothing about it. I hope his partner is ok.
Review 31:The hotel room was small dark and towards the back of the hotel so we only had a view of the car park. When we asked to change we were offered a sea view room but by the time we returned, it was unavailable. It just wasn't worth €130
Review 32:The staff were excellent and the food was ok at breakfast but it was a little cold.
Review 33:The conservatory was one of the highlights as you can enjoy the view without freezing. The old style bar with its magnificent fireplace and excellent staff, also your pool and facilities are one of the cleanest we have seen in 30 years. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back.
Review 34:If it's raining, you can go to the conservatory and read or go to the pub; short drive to Connemara (within walking distance of town as well); and fabulous food in the restaurant. And, don't forget the prom and the view of the Clare hills!
Review 35:Everything. We were given a suite with amazing bay view. Best room in the hotel at basic rates. The staff at breakfast, in particular Paul O'Conner, were excellent. We would highly recommend it.
Review 36:The rooms/bathrooms are very dated, they feel quite cramped because of the colour, and the windows are small and high up. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a sea view, so our view wasn't great either. It was far too expensive for room only, though I appreciate the cost related to how busy the hotel was at the time.
Review 37:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is nice too.
Review 38:The room was basic considering what we paid for 2 nights. No bathrobes or slippers which would be considered par for the course in other hotels I've stayed in at a fraction of the cost. No water provided either! 2 towels for 2 people for 2 nights is too little!! No extra touches, i.e. turn down service, chocolates on the pillow etc. The queue for a hot breakfast in the morning was ridiculous, while the breakfast was lovely, I wouldn' expect to have to stand around waiting to be served.
Review 39:We enjoyed Salthill and Galway city.
Review 40:The only point I will bring up is this....its the only hotel I've ever been in that opened the bar at 2pm in the afternoon during the week, I always thought a resident was able to have a drink more or less at any time, maybe this was because its late on in the year but nonetheless it seemed quite a strange way to run a bar.
Review 41:A wonderful hotel....situated beautifully overlooking the Galway Bay.....roomy and very relaxing. Will go back again.
Review 42:It was a great location and easy to get to town. It was comfortable and clean. When compared to other 4 or 5 star rated hotels, it may not be as nice as some, but overall we had a good experience and I would stay there again.
Review 43:Didn't like the breafast room or the breakfast much - it was very busy and the staff didn't seem to be very knowledgable about anything. I think they were a bit stressed. It often happens in bigger hotels.
Review 44:The Galway Bay was in a nice location - the room was clean with a good bathroom
Review 45:The bar could do with a refurbishment it wouldn't cause me not to return there.
Review 46:Loved the location. The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating.
Review 47:everything about this hotel was excellent staff were nothing but helpful from the start location very good. if you are a slow at walking it's only a short taxi ride to galway city centre.food was top notch will be definitely be going back there
Review 48:The breakfast was incredible, absolutely delicious and lovely to start the day. Staff were excellent and courteous at all times. Offered baby bowls and bottled milk for our baby son which was v good of staff and they treated families brilliantly.
Review 49:I was very disappointed because the purpose of staying at the hotel was for the convenience of having dinner and seeing the show. I invited a friend to join me and we were seated for dinner and forgotten!!! Not even a glass of water or a piece of bread. Now this was a prepaid room & dinner, not like we walked in unexpectedly!!! After 20 minutes I had to flag down a staff member to get our waitress... even after that, she was continuously slow in serving and asking if we needed anything else. I was VERY surprised and the room price was certainly not warranted!!! But I thoroughly enjoyed the show!!!
Review 50:Slightly dated decor but this is a very minor point.
Review 51:Good location on the bay. The staff are FANTASTIC and appear to be genuine so I hope they are well treated. The hotel is very comfortable. Excellent beds. Excellent cleaning staff. Great food. Again, the staff are amazing and they take the hotel up several notches.
Review 52:Lovely hotel, lovely location, just a shame our room over looked the concrete wall leading to the under ground car park, while I appreciate some one has to have it, if all rooms are the same rate I would of liked a better view or discount for a room with out a view,
Review 53:Bedroom was unbearably hot even though it was not hot outside. Left windows open 24 hours a day but that made little to no difference. Bedclothes, especially pillow cases smelled of damp. The hotel is pricey and not really good value for money.
Review 54:Quiet hotel. Excellent staff. Good breakfast.
Review 55:This is a very basic 3-star hotel masquerading as a 4-star but charging 5-star prices. We had difficulty sleeping in the hard beds and couldn't wait to vacate it the following day. When we complained, the manager deducted the cost of a very mediocre snack we had on the previous evening in the bar. 180 euros for one night is absolutely scandalous!!! Give it a miss.
Review 56:Got makeup done by the beautician in the hotel as I was attending a wedding that morning was disappointed with it as it cost €30 and i was in and out in 10 minutes the beautician had no mascara or lipstick so I had to apply my own I thought the pricing was very steep other than that I really enjoyed my stay staff was lovely food beautiful.will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
Review 57:We stayed for 1 night it was rather expensive as we though the room was very dated
Review 58:The location was good and we had dinner in the resturant which was excellant
Review 59:Disappointing facilities. Expected more from a 4 star hotel. At night the sitting area was rather tatty. The bar was too dark and music too loud to have a conversation.
Review 60:Excellent location, friendly helpful staff-went out of their way to be courteous and assisted us with all our queries. Large hotel but felt very homely-spacious accommodation, sea views and food was of a very high standard. Staff were well trained and always attentive and cheerful.
Review 61:Paying extra for breakfast in our room not worth it.The meal was not well prepared, no butter on one occasion.
Review 62:Staff were considerate and helpful when asked to change room because of my wifes difficulty walking
Review 63:Minor issue- there weren't enough towels (hand towels or washcloths) for two people and the smaller towels weren't always replaced each day. Small thing.
Review 64:Loved the location. It was very easy to get to and there was plenty of parking. It was also easy to walk to restaurants or to get into Galway.
Review 65:The key cards were regularly needing reprogramming or you had to try multiple times to get into your room. The restaurant has a lobster tank which was very off putting.
Review 66:I was at the hotel for a wedding and the staff were extremely helpful. The views from the rooms were lovely, unless you overlooked the fun fair next door. The beds were very comfy.
Review 67:The first morning the toast was very underdone the second morning it was really burnt.
Review 68:The friendly staff at all times. It was the weekend of the Galway Mayo match and there was a great buzz around the place.
Review 69:Our meal on Sunday night was too exspensive.thirty seven fifty for two courses was to exspensive as a result we did not eat in the hotel for the rest of our stay.
Review 70:the location looking over Galway bay
Review 71:Not all towels changed. Front lounge could have done with a good sweep and clean when I was there in evening but recognise guests about and could have bee n awkward.
Review 72:Good staff and breakfast. Nice room.
Review 73:at lunch ordered coffee staff never returned with it. evening meal ordered medium/rare steak serving staff turned up 20 mins with a well done steak and asked if it would do. would not recommend hotel to anyone and overpriced not a 4 star hotel
Review 74:desk staff friendly and efficient
Review 75:I wish there was free breakfast included in my package. And some night entertainment maybe because at night the weather was bad n we were bored staying in our room
Review 76:Very comfortable n very good location. Early morning walk at the beach. Few minutes walk to the town where u get everything, loads of places to eat.
Review 77:Not somewhere I'd recommend to anyone under the age of 70.
Review 78:Hotel pleasant enough but catering really for the blue rinse brigade. On the bright side it was quiet and by the sea!
Review 79:The toilets in the Bar area were not up to the standard of a 4star hotel unfortunately.
Review 80:staff were v friendly and really helpful. breakfast was v good.
Review 81:I didn't understand that the hotel charged by the person, which isn't done in the US so when I asked for a rollaway bed in the original reservation they never answered. I had to call the day before arrival and it was explained that they couldn't alter the booking done by booking. Com. I had made a separate one night reservation through booking.com in order to switch room types the last night to get what we wanted but they told me when I called that the reservation had been cancelled. It all worked out beautifully in the end but was complicated.
Review 82:Staff was great! The breakfast choices were excellent and the dinner menu had many options for vegetarians.
Review 83:the evening meal and the wine in the restaurant was exorbitantly over priced. We could have got the same meal anywhere for less than half the price (38 euro each). steak was 10 euros extra. The wine was marked up by around 200%. 36 euro a bottle for wolf blass. The hotel leaves a lot to be desired.
Review 84:The bed was very comfortable. Location very good. the breakfast was very good.
Review 85:nothing
Review 86:Excellent room facilities. Hotel was high standard and staff were very helpful. Wedding party was away from the rest of the hotel which meant other guests were not disturbed.
Review 87:The staff moved our group from the bar very early into the residents lounge which I thought was uncomfortable and not appropriately furnished. Low seats / small high tables not compatible with conversation.
Review 88:None
Review 89:Lovely hotel. Best breakfast. On road trip with my parents and it was my Dads birthday so decided to stay night. Recommended by my parents as they stay here a few times a year. Staff so friendly. Highly recommend a stay here.
Review 90:we loved everything from beginning to end . Fantastic staff . Baby friendly . Restaurant accommodated gluten free option and so tasty too. And we met extremely friendly Slovak girl / café staff/ which was great as well .
Review 91:Picture on Internet makes it look like the property is a "Resort" on the water. However, it is across the street from the bay and a little older and warn down. Also far from city center, must drive into town. Disappointing for #1 rated hotel in Galway.
Review 92:Price was very reasonable.
Review 93:Hi stayed here with group of friends for my birthday , staff very helpfull and friendly. Nice bar and great location. They put a little plate with happy birthday written on it in my room thought that was a nice touch. Stayed here twice now would stay again.
Review 94:We had our breakfast ate before staff came with tea and toast. This would be the only thing i would have faulted your hotel on.
Review 95:Bed was very comfortable
Review 96:Everything was great
Review 97:Although our room was overlooking the main doors we never heard a thing. Very quiet. Room beautiful spacious and extra towels left for us . Very happy
Review 98:Small room so view of sea not great. I should have booked a room on a lower floor (as I have done before and the sea views are wonderful).
Review 99:Nice bed. Nice room. Very rested after stay.
Review 100:Shower was never hot, very long aisles, pool was closed, coffee shop was closed, bar closed so early that we could not even have an after dinner drink, most of the parking lot was filled with trucks probably preparing for an event but no alternatives were offered to park the car or have it parked
Review 101:Good breakfast
Review 102:I slipped and fell when entering main rear door ...on your nice marble tiles ... I am unsure was it the soles on my shoes or the surface ... For your own reference it might be worth checking how this surface responds to exterior wet conditions and leather soles
Review 103:Comfort ..lovely staff
Review 104:It was cold in certain parts especially the bar which put us off staying in there. The 'knickerbocker glory' was worst I ever had, hard jelly, 2 blueberries, scoop of ice cream and cream.
Review 105:The staff were so professional and it was lovely to be treated with respect. Love the location and ambiance of this hotel and the breakfast could not be any better.
Review 106:My only constructive feedback is that there should be shampoo and conditioner in the ladies showers in the leisure centre, and it would be good to have a machine to spin your swimming togs in to dry off the excess water.
Review 107:I arrived early and the staff found me a room and checked me in - they were very friendly. Staff at breakfast were also very friendly. The leisure centre / pool is newly refurbished and very nice.
Review 108:Lack of parking access for the guest and staffs constant concern to reserve tables for locals coming into the hotel bar or lobby to watch games than for those paying guest total access to the hotel facility.
Review 109:We had a lovely stay and the hotel provided easy access to all of our vacation destinations. Friendly front desk and breakfast restaurant staff and great accommodations.
Review 110:The resturant
Review 111:Good hotel, great staff. Dining room very large and out dated. It seems to be a policy to sit you on top of each other when the room is near empty. Food is hit and miss.
Review 112:Wifi is tricky although connectivity is good. the information in the rooms about wifi needs updating as it mentions ethernet cables.
Review 113:Staff very helpful and easily available. Nice 15m pool. Delicious seafood chowder in the bar.
Review 114:The girl at reception found her rood . Didn't smile when we showed up had a problem and she was abit rood with her answers like she didn't want to deal with the problem
Review 115:Friendly,helpful staff. Perfect for what we wanted a shirt fun filled family break with a swimming pool. Ideal location also. Great selection and choice for breakfast.
Review 116:The swimming pool was under refurbishment, only found out when I got there, but I was given a voucher to use the swimming pool at the hotel next door which was grand. My booking from booking.com wasnt on the reception computer when I arrived which quite embarrassing seeing their were people within earshot, it got sorted after I had to wait a few minutes, but I wasnt comfortable with that.
Review 117:Room was very nice, with good shower and comfy bed. The bar was really nice, traditional & contemporary, nicely done and clever exterior look from the corridor. Breakfast had good variety and staff in the dining room were nice and helpful.
Review 118:Absolutely loved the hotel it was spotless and so welcoming. Had food in the bar and it was incredibly tasty. Can't wait for an excuse to go back again. Temperature controlled rooms too which was great.
Review 119:The Douvet quilt on the bed it was so thin even with the blanket we were cold now it was an extreme cold night and I never feel the cold but I didnt sleep well as I was cold they need to replace the Douvet in room 208
Review 120:I loved everything about this hotel but there was only 1 thing that left it down
Review 121:Disappointed with the size of the pool, no Jacuzzi but there is a sauna.
Review 122:Everything was fabulous. A group of six girls met for a 50th birthday. The Hotel staff couldn't have been any nicer to us. Would certainly go back.
Review 123:Lots a families with young children. Great if travelling with a family yourself but as a young couple trying to relax, it wasnt great having a lot of screaming kids running around the hotel and leisure facilities at all times!
Review 124:Nice staff
