Reviews for Salthill Hotel
Review 1:Pool was closed during our stay, we wernt made aware of it until we had paid in full and it was one of the leading reasons we choose to stay here over other hotels in the area.
Review 2:Such a friendly reception on arrival... great staff. Very relaxed atmosphere to this hotel. Clean and comfortable. Great live music in bar. We had a lovely break . Great hotel. Great location .. beautiful promenade walk into Galway. Fantastic. Recommend.
Review 3:We stayed for a mid week break, room was very clean and modern, a good size bathroom, exceptionally good value, easy parking and a nice walk into Galwsy town centre, we will definitely return.
Review 4:The lack of diversity awareness of reception staff was surprising. I was asked to complete 'the gentleman's details' for the 2nd guest. As a female married gay couple we find this careless/offensive. It was sad that the receptionist did not apologise when my wife appeared :(
Review 5:The general conditions of the hotel and friendly bar staff
Review 6:Bedroom was over the top heated - had to leave both windows open all through the day and night. Couldn't adjust the radiator. I had requested a front facing bedroom - bedroom I received face a wall - not very endearing!!
Review 7:Very Clean -
Review 8:Bed was very hard didn't see a difference in standard room and executive suites didn't feel it was worth the extra money.dhort staff at breakfast waiting to be seated and not greeted by staff the woman was ran off her feet
Review 9:Pool was very nice
Review 10:Requested a room adjacent to the elevator as one of the guests walks with an aid. Was also offered a room with walk in shower by 1 of the staff when booking. Neither of these requirements were met.
Review 11:Hotel Location and view from the room.
Review 12:Conference on at the same time and could be heard thoughout the hotel well in to the early hours. First nights sleep wasn't the best.
Review 13:The good in the bar was excellent and the view was lovely.?
Review 14:Room service was terrible-dont order pizza and 'caesar' salad. Plus the charge of 5 euro tray service was a bit much!
Review 15:Friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely Pool facilities. Breakfast was good also.
Review 16:A lot of rooms don't have see view your just looking across at other rooms. No play facilities for children would be nice to have toys in reception/bar area to keep small child occupied
Review 17:Excellent location. Right on the promenade in salthill and only 5 mins away from galway city.
Review 18:We had a lovely quiet room. It was spacious and although there was no bath the shower was big and powerful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I love the location!
Review 19:Lovely hotel . great room with sea view, lovely swimming pool sauna ,steam room Breakfast buffet excellent very friendly staff. Cannot wait to visit again 10 .
Review 20:Little bit pricey but worth it , would be great if yous did deals can't fault this hotel at all
Review 21:Loved the location staff were lovely food was brilliant
Review 22:Very noisy pump/motor located near bedroom (412) came on and off at all hours.....also, one got the ('discreet') impression, in the Prom restaurant, of being, 'rushed' to make way for the next sitting.....The food in the Bar was much more relaxed........
Review 23:Friendly and helpful staff...Great view of Galway bay....Entertainment very enjoyable....food excellent.
Review 24:Very minor irritation was the fact that there were 1-2 weddings on for the three days of our stay so at certain times at the bar or reception there were long waits for attention. But I am stressing a minor irritaton.
Review 25:Rooms excellent, staff excellent, food excellent location excellent
Review 26:The heat of the bedroom. It was unbearable and the a/c was noisey, so didn't sleep too well. The bar was fine, but could be so much nicer. Too dark. Lighter coloured décor could make a big difference.
Review 27:The pools were great. 25 meter pool for lane swimming, and a decent size childrens pool which a hit. The breakfast was really good too.
Review 28:Absolutely nothing negative.
Review 29:It was a first class hotel and we have been to quite a few hotels thisyear both in Europe and Ireland and nothing could compare to this hotel.
Review 30:There were a lot of small problems during our stay. My partner and I booked the stay as a special occasion and with the hopes of a relaxing break. Our third floor sea view room had two single mattresses pushed together to form a double bed. The 'sea view' was pretty limited and there were tea bags missing from the tea/coffee facilities in the room. The room hadn't been freshened up that day as the menu card (which we discovered when we tried to order in the restaurant of the hotel bar) was incorrect for the daily specials menu. We spoken to the receptionist about these issues. About 15 mins later, we received a phone call offering us a change of rooms. The room we changed to was on the fourth floor with a much better sea view and a full double mattress. While booking my reservation, I had made a request that we be placed on a high floor in a quiet room. On our second night, there was a wedding and a work Christmas party (or parties) taking place in the hotel. Although we were on the top floor, we were unable to sleep because of the noise. We rang the reception at 2am to complain about this. On that same night, a piece of paper was passed under our hotel door explaining that the hotel pool would be closed until a few days after our stay due to maintenance. This was extremely disappointing considering the swimming pool and water facilities were the main reasons that I booked this particular hotel. The hotel was accommodating for these problems and arranged that I could use the swimming pool in the hotel next door. Unfortunately, despite the friendly staff and helpful manager, we felt that there were a few too many problems for a hotel of this standard. We had very little sleep on our second night and checked out of the hotel feeling tired, unrelaxed and stressed.
Review 31:The welcome to the hotel was excellent, the receptionist greeted us very warmly. The breakfast and restaurant staff were very friendly and professional.
Review 32:Understand its festive season however our room was terribly noisy, barely slept - we were located right beside the lifts and vending machines, there happened to be a Wedding and large Christmas Party on in the Hotel and all night it was chaotic on the corridors with drunk eejits. There was a gap under the door with light peeping through and as a result lots of noise - heard all sorts of dodgy conversations
Review 33:Called for room service (a sandwich €6) was told that room service charge would be an additional €8. The guy at the bar was lovely though and told us to call down five minutes before we got there and he would put on a sambo. Swimming pool/spa (one of the main pulls of the hotel for us) was closed and we weren't informed of this until we went to reception looking for towels. Receptionist was also quite snotty when telling us this, rather than apologetic. Overall disappointing. I had stayed at other four stars and they have all been much much better than the Salthill Hotel which was plain ordinary.
Review 34:Room was nice. Nothing more, nothing less. Requested a sea view but didn't get it considering there was a wedding on. Shower was lovely.
Review 35:As always its top notch in every department I stay here every time because its absolutely everything if not more I need in a healthy and fulfilling environment
Review 36:N/A
Review 37:Extremely friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. Hotel facilities excellent, breakfast a huge choice of both hot and cold items, very filling. Cannot fault the place to be honest
Review 38:Men's changing room for swimming facilities needs maintanance
Review 39:Bed was really comfy and good quality duvet and pillows. Beautiful sea views and large en suite bathroom. Couldn't have picked a nicer place for our stay and would happily return again.
Review 40:The above answers this question, staff attitude in restaurant & leisure facilities very poor indeed. I found a hairgrip on the bedroom floor from a previous guest & the carpet & quilt cover was not clean.
Review 41:Breakfast waiter older Indian guy was very miserable & unfriendly, room was comfortable & staff generally friendly & helpful. Leisure facilities are very badly organised with lots of children's swimming lessons & not at all relaxing, the hydro pool was broken for the 2 days we stayed here so not the facilities that are advertised at all
Review 42:The breakfast. The food was lovely, just wasn't too much to choose from. Mainly a cooked breakfasts was al that was available.
Review 43:We were here for a wedding so our stay was a little different than normal. There wasn't too many options for breakfast compared to other places we've stayed but other than that, quality hotel. Our room looked over the bay so it was a lovely view and room to have.
Review 44:Leisure Center was good, but too many local club members in the evening, making it crowded for hotel guests, so not too relaxing.
Review 45:Friendly good standard 4 star hotel. Nice breakfast and good value bar food. Room very good. Spacious and attractive foyer.
Review 46:We found a big difference from having stayed two years pervious, food excellent, breakfast more organised, lay out better, bread pre cut so other people not handling your food.
Review 47:Have stayed there on several occasions and always enjoyed the stay. Nice to have plenty of free parking. Breakfast is always plentiful. Will be staying again and request the same room number, we'll see if the hotel can accommodate the request.
Review 48:kept awake all night because of christmas party even though we were on 4th floor!! also very noisy people next door and when we tried call down to reception the phone in room was broken.
Review 49:staff,facilities and location very good
Review 50:Swimming lessons always on. always ended up using small pool but this had a lot of kids in it so no laps in comfort.
Review 51:food and drink areas were very good. from the layout to the staff and food/drink. Easy drive to city center.
Review 52:Just the weather out side !!!
Review 53:Was there for wedding hotel was beautiful food was great bed really comfortable all the staff I came in to contact were so friendly smiling and very helpful all was very good.
Review 54:We have stayed in your hotel before and appreciate the friendliness of staff and acceptance. Swimming is marvellous and it is across the road from salt water as we love the sea ands Ocean to swim. Many thanks. M
Review 55:Receptionist very rude. Kept answering phone will talking to us and losing her trail of thought while talking to us
Review 56:Bar is beautiful with excellent food. Amazing location! Very comfortable
Review 57:Bar manager attitude to staff especially in front of customers he took the head of a poor young lad that was obviously new didn't think it was very professional
Review 58:Quick to change our room as it was meant to be double but was twin no hassle
Review 59:Booked a double room & were given a twin
Review 60:Leisure facilities are fantastic, very impressed with them. Bar waiters were so friendly & professional. ???
Review 61:The location was brilliant, by the sea with a lovely view, the hotel was lovely and the wellness facilities were free to use for hotel guests. All in all it was a great stay, definitely recommend it4
Review 62:Noise level in general: One of our rooms was directly over the hotel bar and the room was vibrating with the noise from the band on the Saturday night. What appeared to be the sound stools being moved around the bar, scraping along the floor (up until approx. 4am). There was also a lot of noise throughout the night with people in the corridors.
Review 63:The location is excellent.
Review 64:Room a bit disappointing. No water and glasses. Small. Stayed here last year also and felt it was better then.
Review 65:Lovely bar food.good atmosphere. Husband loved gym etc
Review 66:I got disappointed with a man working in the reception during the night. He lost manners with one of my friends. But out of that my staying was brilliant! =)
Review 67:staff were very kind, professional and helpful during our stay. The hotel is amazing and has delightful views. I recommend it! =)
Review 68:Price small bottle water 2.95 & mineral also 2.95 at Bar.
Review 69:Staff smiled at all times & could not do enough for both of us.The hotel was warm, comfortable & so welcoming.
Review 70:Comfortable well run hotel. Staff very helpful and efficient.Bar provides a good ambience and good selection of food. Live music on Sunday evening of very high quality and an unexpected bonus.
Review 71:Our only down side was the toilet. Toilet paper cheap and poor quality and lack of toilet brush. These 2 simple things let a great hotel down
Review 72:The décor and ambience of the lobby on arrival plus helpfulness of staff at reception set the scene for our stay
Review 73:No power socket adjacent to a mirror, unable to use hairdryer! Shower thermostat faulty, while showering water would get burning hot!
Review 74:Leisure Facilities, Food.
Review 75:Nothing!
Review 76:Excellent hotel! Very friendly and accommodating staff, lovely restaurant/bar, good breakfast included in the price, and clean/spacious rooms.
Review 77:nothing !!
Review 78:friendly staff , nice clean large modern room , great bar with nice atmosphere , and even though weddings on both nights , not a problem at all. breakfast was good and apart from one waitress all very happy and helpful. easy taxi ride in and out of galway. food in prom restaurant also nice and reasonable .
Review 79:Difficult to find any fault with this hotel, if I had to say something it would be that Breakfast seemed a little disorganised, wasn't obvious where to queue at busy times
Review 80:Very luxurious hotel, excellent service and facilities.
Review 81:One of my friends, whose room was on the 3rd floor, was woken by a wedding band playing in the bar 3 floors beneath him. Better sound insulation is needed for rooms above the bar area (where I'm sure many a wedding band plays).
Review 82:The sea view from the room was great, particularly on Sun morning when the sun was shining & there were blue skies as far as the eye could see. The room was comfortable and of a good size, and there was a strong water flow from the shower.
Review 83:our only negative experience was that one, and only one of the managers was very unaware of his paying guests. He was totally lacking in personality and flair. He didn't interact or help and while he was the person who checked out us and other guests, he never spoke except to acknowledge that the transaction was complete.
Review 84:The atmosphere was great, the food was lovely and our room was really comfortable.
Review 85:Was great that you can book room with view ( paid more) for the room but it was so worth it. Loved that the bathroom was spacious with seperate tub and big freestanding shower. The neutral colour scheme.
Review 86:That I had to go home
Review 87:the stunning view from our huge window looking out over Galway bay.to the six ft comfy bed to large shower decent tv and tea making facilities also the use of the leisure facilities to the secure underground free parking
Review 88:You need to book a meal in the restaurant you just couldn't walk in the bar food was good but it was the same every day and the staff some times forgot about you after asking if there is any thing you need
Review 89:The friendliness of staff, quite relaxing clean hotel
Review 90:Towels were stained with makeup, pillow cases also stained with mascara, no fitted sheets on the bed - stained mattress protector
Review 91:Great location, good staff, friendly and helpful; restaurant with good food!
Review 92:It was so warm and welcoming, the room was very spacious, the meals both in the breakfast room and bar were delicious. It was a real oasis in a busy world, we loved the place! Thanks to you all, a great staff !
Review 93:No . it was fine but the receptionist was a little surly at first. I expected the receptionists to be charming! I thought the idea of queueing for breakfast was annoying..............
Review 94:our rooms were clean but I did notice dust on the table when the sun shone the morning after our stay!
Review 95:Myself and my now fiancé got engaged on the Saturday morning and the staff bent over backwards to make our weekend special.I cannot rate the Salthill Hotel highly enough. The rooms are amazing, the food is amazing, the location is amazing and the staff are without equal in how good they were. We lived in Galway and return regularly and have stayed in most hotels butte Salthill Hotel is by far and away the best in all ways! Special thanks to Fiona for her kindness and genuine care over our stay!!
Review 96:I Love everything about the salthill hotel, ITs location is perfect the bar is comfortable, Staff are great and extremely helpfull especially a woman on reception called Edel. I also Love the leisure centre and we had spectactular Views of the sea.
Review 97:From the moment we checked in to when we checked out of the hotel everything about this hotel was Top Class. The reception staff were courteous, friendly and very helpful. We requested a room in a quiet area which we got and the room was spacious and spotless.Could not fault this hotel on any issue
Review 98:My room was very noisy. I was woken up at 1am by the people in the next room talking loudly and the noise of the water runnig in their bathroom and toilet flushing was even louder.
Review 99:Shame there's lots of swimming lessons going on in the pool but I understand why it's open to public
Review 100:A little out of town but a great place to stay if you enjoy a walk into town
Review 101:Spacious room, great view, good range at breakfast and all produce very fresh. Weather was atrocious during our stay but we found plenty to keep us occupied even with an energetic toddler. Would stay here again.
Review 102:Cold in the bar at night by the windows so we moved to another table. an enjoyable stay overall.
Review 103:Bar food and breakfast was lovely. prompt service and very friendly staff.
Review 104:Was NOT happy with the room I was originally allocated. Was in in older part of hotel and not up to standard.Had no problem changing to better room.
Review 105:Overall very comfortable and helpful staff.
Review 106:Asked barman to put a programme on the TV for us which he did, but tried to get the sound on which he could'nt, so just put remote down in temper and never even came over to explain to us what the problem was or ask another barman to try and get the sound on.And that was it.So instead of us staying in the bar and spending our money we ended up going back up to our room.
Review 107:Food lovely and very reasonably priced
Review 108:Staff in the restaurant could not put the bill on our room causing a bit of a inconvenience
Review 109:Very nice atmosphere and helpful staff. Beautiful surroundings. Room was very spacious.
Review 110:Had to buy an adapter for mains, no lending possible, Mojito at the bar was a joke: € 10,- and far from a real Mojito
Review 111:Large room, very comfortable bed, sea view
Review 112:The room I stayed, is at a separate wing, different elevator. Hallway very narrow and obviously timber, one hears every step of other guests outside, same applies for conversations in the hallway, one can hear every word. I felt a bit like a 2nd class hotel guest.
Review 113:Everything was fantastic! The rooms are very comfortable, the food was delicious and the staff very helpful. I would definitely stay again. We were a group of 8 visiting for our parents 30th wedding anniversary and ages ranged from 18-50, everyone equally enjoyed their stay.
Review 114:Nothing
Review 115:A great location beside the promenade with a bus to Galway city every 20 mins. The large bedrooms, pool and sauna were super as was the large lounge bar with music.
Review 116:Didn't like that we were first given a room with three beds in it at the back of the building on third floor as far as you could be for the lift.not suitable for older couple
Review 117:We have stayed on several occasions and always find it welcoming.
Review 118:Nothing bad.
Review 119:The rooms were beautiful and the sea view was amazing. As a regular swimmer I was delighted to have the opportunity to swim every morning in the beautiful pool. Breakfast was great.
Review 120:There were no in-house movies due to a system upgrade. It would have been good to know.
Review 121:Wonderful place and loved the area and the wine list in the Blackrock Bar
Review 122:Room smelt a little bit and probably didn't quite keep up with the rest of the hotel in terms of style and grandeur.
Review 123:Got the first night for €50 Eu somehow but second night was a little more. Facilities, gym especially excellent. Great decor.
Review 124:we were very happy with our stay at this hotel, staff were very helpful and nice, hotel very clean and food in bar was very good. also great selection of food for breakfast, great location. will definitely be going back.
Review 125:The breakfast was of very low standard . The "meat selection " was just ham !!!! And the cheese selection was packaged processed mini cheeses . No crackers of grapes or any fresh fruit only a "fruit salad " in a bowl which had seen better days ! The hot breakfast was sausage , pudding , rashers fried egg or scrambled . There was no selection of breads just 1 brown bread , all in all it was a disappointment and didn't reflect the quality you would expect from a four star property .
Review 126:Location is great , right on the sea front and the bus stop is outside the hotel €2 each way to city . The reception staff could do with being more pleasent, they look and act very bored of their job !
Review 127:Some rooms are a bit run down: carpet had stains and window could not be closed.Room was very noisy with some fan and chimney outside the windoW. No real double bed. No sockets available at bedside and WIFI advertised and offered was not available neither was there any mobile phone reception.
Review 128:its a great spot and the hotel was always a nice stay one of the nicest in Salthill. The rooms are comfy with a good size. The food provided in the restaurants is of good quality
