Reviews for The Victoria Hotel
Review 1:The mattress was very hard
Review 2:The location is great right in the middle of everything so no getting taxis. Would go back to this hotel. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were great.
Review 3:The hotel needs a makeover. Decor & furniture very tired. Condensation running down windows & mould on curtains due to condensation. Bed was hard as a rock, pillows flat as pancakes. Pole holding the shower curtain was rusty. Only four hangers. Heating was one small electric device on the wall that nearly heated the room
Review 4:I loved the location. Staff were extremely friendly. liked that there was tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Large enough room. Had breakfast both mornings & was adequate.
Review 5:Put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door one night and the cleaning lady came in anyway early the best afternoon - not a huge deal but a bit annoying. The fact that she didn't knock and just opened the door was though. Especially as I was getting dressed but I shouted at her to not come in further so suppose it's grand but I found that very strange and pretty rude!
Review 6:Great location, clean comfortable rooms and friendly staff!
Review 7:the hotel is a bit dated ,having said that the bar and breakfast room were old style but very pleasing to the eye.
Review 8:the location was perfect, the staff especially nora on reception were very helpful, the breakfast was very good ,overall a good experience.
Review 9:Breakfast! Tomato raw, beans and mushrooms cold. Would have complained during breakfast but was not asked if everything ok, same at reception during check out so no option but to put it here, which is a shame because otherwise enjoyed stay.
Review 10:Stayed here many times. As always spotlessly clean. Location off Eyre Sq very convenient. Price very reasonable.
Review 11:Room was not clean. Cobwebs on ceiling. Stains on bed sheets. Bathroom ceiling damp. Bath was dusty. Overall the room needed a good painting and curtains had blue mould stains also at 3:45 am we were wakened with banging and roaring from room down the corridor from ours
Review 12:Room was warm
Review 13:Only thing I did not like was my gf only had 2 slices of toast and pastry had only bacon and sausages no tea coffee and was charged full price thought that was wrong
Review 14:Liked the friendly and helpful staff Ian the bar man was a great sport
Review 15:Be prepared, the hotel likes to fine guests ie. losing keys (30e) late check out (30e) and stunningly... 500e if you smoke in the room! Now, that's worth the trip outside! Thankfully we left with no fines. Bar is quiet, but the city is your doorstep.
Review 16:The room, we got THE room that is in the pictures with the lovely sticky out glass balcony and its even bigger than it looks! Great hot water bath and shower. Clean. The decor is slightly worn, eg the carpet and curtains, but if it was better the price would be higher. Fantastic location. Loved the hotel. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast with drinkable coffee. Staff are perfect.
Review 17:Room was very dated. Stains in carpet Ceiling in bathroom had damp/mould. Shower fitting had pieces missing and hairdryer held together with selotape Wall paper lifting from walls. Smoke detector covered with plastic bag. Breakfast delivered to room without butter / ketchup.
Review 18:Staff were nice.. good location.
Review 19:No parking facilities. The room was awful the key wouldn't open the door the lampshades where filthy the room in general was dated and dusty everything was just old. The shower was terrible also
Review 20:I liked the location right beside eyre square so handy for a night out
Review 21:The price was too high for one person as I had booked for a twin room but my partner did not come and the price remained the same it was for room only
Review 22:The location and the friendly staff
Review 23:All Staff were excellent ... Rooms very roomy and clean .. Clean sheets and towels etc every day .. Very central .. Breakfast hot and very nice and plentiful
Review 24:Possibly maybe a cheaper rate for new year due to no evening meals and night entertainment.
Review 25:We liked the location of the hotel and also the comfort. Hotel warm and bedroom very comfortable and warm.
Review 26:When i opened the room door there was a damp smell from the bathroom. Decor in bar ,bedroom and foyer needs to brightened up and updated.
Review 27:Hotel was in a great location. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was very good.Room was huge n spacious.
Review 28:The room I initially stayed in was very dark. The lighting was very poor, and given I was there mid-winter, there was little light from outside. Additionally, we left something in our room the first night we stayed there. When we returned to the hotel a two days later, they said they never found anything in there. Bit disappointed that was the case.
Review 29:Great location. Really convenient to look around Galway. Perfect if you want to be in the city centre for shopping or going out.
Review 30:Room could have done with more lighting. It was quite dark in the room and made it difficult to get ready to go out. Very noisy in the morning from 7:30 onwards from cleaning staff, lots of doors banging continuously. The bathroom needed a facelift.
Review 31:Great location in Galway, no traffic noise in our room. Late check out
Review 32:The heating in the hotel room seemed non exsitant. No booklet on times or if you needed anything etc
Review 33:The hotel & our room was fab. The shower was amazing.
Review 34:There was so many add on. They try to catch you out and charge for extra stuff. Felt very much like ryan air they way they operated. If u lose your key is 30 euro. If u want to bring a guest back to a double room u have already paid for, it is 30 euro extra. Also the check out time is 11am. Wouldnt recommend it.
Review 35:I paid for double room and when checking in receptionist insisted on name of other Person if I was sharing otherwise no one else would get past porter....this is ridiculous as out with friends and if one needed too stay I had room paid for...This is bad form And would put me off Staying again
Review 36:Location
Review 37:very loud noise and music up until 2.30am and as we couldnt sleep we watched television and at about 3am the electricity in our room cut out until about 7am .
Review 38:it was very central to where we wanted to be .
Review 39:Lot of street noise (problem only if you sleep with the window open ), bathroom needed to be repainted
Review 40:Big room, good central location. Breakfast very good. Nice pub, friendly staff
Review 41:It a great location lovely breakfast it's great that u can go up and get what u want like cereal, toast, bread and orange juice we couldn't complain about anything we will stay there again
Review 42:It was very acceptable price wise The location was very good and the breakfast was excellent. It was a very enjoyable stay and would recommend it to anyone
Review 43:I wouldn't call it a bad experience but tiny signs of disrepair such as flaking paint on ceiling over the bath. The shower curtain needed washing - stained on bottom rim e.g.
Review 44:I like the historical, relaxed ambience of the hotel.
Review 45:We like the warm rooms (which we consider very important), the clean, comfortable beds, the nice staff, nice breakfast. Proximity to local bus stop, shopping centres, places of entertainment, etc.
Review 46:Only complaint was no dinners in the evening but breakfast and lunch were lovely sister hotel in eyre square was excellent for dinners
Review 47:Staff were very helpful
Review 48:The room was very average and out dated. There was a smell coming from the bathroom toilet. Heating very old school and bed not very comfortable.
Review 49:The location.
Review 50:The barman was not very nice or welcoming we were left waiting 10 mins to be served even though there was no other people in the bar and we left the bar without ordering because he never came up to us even though he saw us
Review 51:the location was excellant
Review 52:Basic accommodation but very clean. Staff very very friendly and efficient. Very central to train and bus station and Eyre Sq . Would definitely recommend it
Review 53:The Hotel is old and could do with an update in bedrooms and corridors, old antique furniture serves no purpose in public areas but it is great value for money and clean and comfortable.
Review 54:Clean, comfortable and well appointed rooms, very quiet location with no outside noise, very warm and good bathroom facilities, good flat screen TV and coffee and tea facilities. Great location for shopping in Galway.
Review 55:Could hear all activity in hallways clearly from room which hindered sleep a bit, maybe a little work could be done on soundproofing room entrances?
Review 56:The friendly staff, cheap yet delicious food, fantastic atmosphere and live music.
Review 57:It was very quiet, and very close to everything we needed, the receptionist also gave us the number for the better taxi who didn't charge a fortune. Will be back.
Review 58:I don't have anything that I didn't like
Review 59:The hotel was perfect we are young parents and it was great to get away for a night on out own galway is a beautiful place. The hotel room was lovely great heat in there we will definitely be back thank u
Review 60:Didn't seem to serve food at night time only weekends
Review 61:Friendly staff ,nice and quiet hotel ,our room was a little noisy from the heating system so the staff very kindly moved us
Review 62:The bar/lounge was depressing and not very welcoming - it is too dark and in need of upgrading. The lobby could be up dated also
Review 63:Rooms were clean and Dining room & breakfast were good The service at breakfast was good
Review 64:Lights in the room didn't work - took 2 separate visits from 2 different members of staff for them to realise that we weren't lying and yes that the lights weren't working. Then realised the bathroom sink was blocked - told the reception staff who turned her nose up. Came back with the sink STILL unblocked and black grime lying in the bath - clearly tried to unblock the sink by putting the dirt in the bath!€198 for all that? Not happy at all
Review 65:Close to centre. Bar staff and breakfast staff lovely and really helpful
Review 66:Location was excellent breakfast was very good if I'm to be super critical the bathroom good do with a facelift but it wouldn't stop me returning
Review 67:Very disappointing that there were only two plugs in the room - with two phones having to be charged meant we couldn't use the television. Would stay again but I'd be bringing an extension lead!
Review 68:Location perfect. Really good value for money. Would stay again.
Review 69:Constant humming / buzzing sound coming from outside the window throughout the night which kept us from having a good sleep on both of our 2 night stay
Review 70:The noise at night wake me up several times. People talking loudly and banging doors shut. The keys were a problem for people when they went to open their room.
Review 71:The staff were helpful and welcoming.
Review 72:The facilities doesn't look the same as in the pictures. The facilities are old and it didn't looked that organized to be honest, there were even old tables around the hall. The curtains were dirty and the bathroom looked dreadful
Review 73:No shower caps or sanitary disposal bags supplied in bathroom
Review 74:The location, close to train/ bus station. Breakfast was excellent & freshly cooked. Staff very friendly & helpful. Value for money.
Review 75:The smoke detector was covered with a napkin and we called the reception. The receptionist said that they will send across someone to look into it but nobody came. You wouldn't ofcourse expect fire every night, but its an important safety feature.
Review 76:Its close to city centre (50 m away). Very clean place and large and warm rooms.
Review 77:I liked everything!
Review 78:The Hotel is located just in the center of Galway, very close to the Railways Station (around 4-5 hundred meters) and Coach Station. Extremely friendly, responsive stuff, nice breakfasts. Highly recommended!
Review 79:the cleaners kept opening the fire exit at the end of the corridor the bedroom door vibrated loudly when the other residents opened and closed other doors it would be better value for money if the breakfast was included in the price as it was a bit expensive
Review 80:A good location and staff were friendly and helpful
Review 81:1. Very Lumpy Bed 2. Another Guest was on the Landing all night on her Phone. 3.Low shower in the bath, no Slip mat or rail to climb into bath for a shower, (Suprised HEALTH & SAFETY passed this)
Review 82:1.The Staff were pleasant on arrival 2. There was tea/coffee facilities in the room
Review 83:We loved the size of the room and comfort of the bed although the room decor was tired and worn we had a great sleep. The Breakfast was one of the best we have ever experienced in a hotel, delicious!
Review 84:The bathroom seems like it was overlooked when the place was beening designed, just oddly bland compaired to the rest of the room
Review 85:The room was fantastic, comfy and spacious. The breakfast hit the spot perfertly and the staff were friendly and welcoming
Review 86:There was nothing that we didn't like during our two day stay.
Review 87:Central location, large room spotlessly clean, very friendly staff, lovely breakfast and outstanding value for money at less than €30 per night for B&B.We'll be back!!
Review 88:I was on the first floor. I was disconcerted to see the fire exit door wide open - anyone could have come up the fire escape and into the corridor. Was it opened by a member of staff going out for a smoke? Vital that a check is kept on these external doors as guests feel vulnerable.
Review 89:The staff were lovely and made me a single woman immediately feel safe. Very welcoming and helpful.
Review 90:We had a road facing room which could be noisy from the traffic if you were a light sleeper.
Review 91:Very central location with car parking close by, within easy walking distance of shops/pubs etc.
Review 92:Friendly & helpful staff, central location, lovely & clean, well decorated & very comfortable & great value for money. Will definitely be staying again!
Review 93:Noise from adjoing two bedrooms on the friday night was unreal all night until 7.00am Sat morning, the reception was informed by me twice durning the night but the shouting, banging doors and kicking doors was allowed to continue until 7.00am in the morning.
Review 94:Location of hotel goodNoise
Review 95:The noise of the air conditioner which was right outside our window!!The room was dark and sparsely furnished and the bathroom was dated and in need of repair.
Review 96:Proximity to shops and other facilities. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 97:The hotel is mouldy, and really cold in the evenings No car park had to pay €15 for one that was a good distance away carrying luggage!
Review 98:Staff were good, breakfast was ok.
Review 99:Stop letting people run up and down the corridor kicking doors shouting heads off,try and insulate the walls so you can't hear everything going on in the next few rooms and downstairs bar,
Review 100:Nothing will never go back
Review 101:good location, great stuff (especially the blond girl who's at the reception in the evenings), good wifi, good breakfast. very good value for money
Review 102:Waited for 15 minutes to be served at the bar Sunday evening around 8:30... It was quiet so that was disappointing but otherwise very good
Review 103:Lovely spacious rooms and a nice bar.. The wi-fi was excellent I was really happy with it
Review 104:hotel is very tired looking. tv didn't work in room and when I contacted night porter to report the problem I found him very unhelpful. the lighting is also very poor in the room. problem with noise too from other rooms
Review 105:location excellent
Review 106:The antique elegance of this hotel made it memorable. We enjoyed the breakfast, the staff was very kind and helpful, and the price was great. Also a perfect location. Highly recommend the Victoria Hotel.
Review 107:It's a bit tired & outdated. This is not a luxurious hotel; just a place to hang your hat. Breakfast was not that great.
Review 108:Very good location; central, but just out of the way enough to be fairly quiet. My room was huge. The desk staff were very nice, as was the bartender.
Review 109:The only thing that I would add is maybe think about a more smoker friendly area for residents, while I don't have any problem with non smoking bedrooms it's off putting having to stand out on the street, which is where I was told was the smoking area.
Review 110:The location is very good within walking distance of everything.
Review 111:The door handles, I found them hard to open from inside as I have a chronic illness in my arm/hand.
Review 112:One morning I forgot to take the do not disturb thing of the door, when I got back I could not believe the cleaner had left me clean towels and bathroom things at the door.
Review 113:Shower was adequate could do with updating.
Review 114:The convenience to city centre, friendly staff, quick check-in. Comfortable bed, clean basic room. Very nice breakfast.
Review 115:Restaurant not open in early Sept and no atmosphere in place... no one at the bar. place deserted of customers although hotel was supposed to be full
Review 116:Closeness to Eyre Square
Review 117:We stayed on a Saturday night and there was a lot of noise coming from other guests in the corridor throughout the night.
Review 118:Great location and good enough comfort but not a great vibe.
Review 119:The fact that there was no car parking facilities and that you couldn't get an evening meal was a little disappointing.
Review 120:Quiet and comfortable room / bed. good breakfast options. Convenient location. The drinks and snacks machine on level 2 is a good idea.
Review 121:The Hotel is tired looking the bar is very dark and unwelcoming/ Bad smell in Lobby/Lift smells like sewerage. Mattress hard.
Review 122:Very central within walking distance of all shops/Bars/Restaurants The Bathroom was very clean, towels white and soft
Review 123:Hotel is rather dated, torn carpet noted in public areas. Noise level from service trucks to a nearby shopping complex to the front of the premises early am were disturbing (dated windows provide little sound barrier)
Review 124:Staff member at reception very friendly and accommodating when asked for an early breakfast. Breakfast staff could not have been more polite and helpful. Location is excellent, one minute from the centre of eyre square.
Review 125:The fact that the hotel did not serve food in the early evening. How could a hotel in the centre of a busy tourist city not have as much as a toasted sandwich available at 6PM. The bar was open so no shortage of drink available.
Review 126:The location
Review 127:The young girl who was on duty when I arrived kept me waiting for 5 minutes while she had a private conversation regarding her dinner arrangements for that night or another night. All other staff really nice
Review 128:Very nice room
Review 129:Weather dulled a few days of doing what we hoped to do. But a jkt and an umbrella was a must.
Review 130:Great staff and great location!!!! Found an amazing tavern not too far away and had a great dinner with an amazing live music show!!! Lots of good music entertainers everywhere we went.
Review 131:Some of the reception staff unfriendly Some areas appear a bit rundown with faded carpets, loose door fittings, broken lightglobes Off-site parking in parking garage for 10 Euro/day No views Street noise from adjacent bus depot
Review 132:Location within easy walking distance to High street for pubs and shops 2 km to Salt Hill Comfortable, clean rooms Nice onsite pub, but very few patrons, with somewhat subdued atmosphere (better to go to High street pubs) Wi-Fi adequate Nice breakfast (included)
Review 133:we have been staying here for every trip to galway over last thirteen years, but its going down hill. Curtains were dirty, damaged heating, torn carpeting, old torn couch at 2 floor lobby, torn carpet through out hotel. our room the shower head had been spraying all over the bathroom, can tell ignored for a while as mildew growth around floor was evident should be 1 star.
Review 134:Room's view on a dirty roof. No pub food or snacks available after 10:00 pm for travelers arriving late. Pub looks nice, but not very lively during the week.
Review 135:Great location, nice people, nice hotel
