Reviews for Haughton Hall
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:The staff all were very hepfull and explained every aspect of our stay very clearly so we had no surprises. Alternatives were available if we wanted to change anything, which wasn't at all necessary.
Review 3:I visited Haughton Hall for a business trip I was on. The hotel was very close to the venue I was visiting. The staff were friendly and welcoming and responded to queries promptly. Food was great with a good selection for breakfast and dinner.
Review 4:All a bit tired looking and the decor was not in keeping with the grand building. The food was well cooked but oh please please why is food always the same choice wherever we seem to travel for business in England. Come on guys you can do better than Fish and Chips and Caesar Salad.
Review 5:Lovely friendly staff. Couldnt do enough to help us. Location excellent.
Review 6:Staff helpful and Friendly. Cannot fault it at all. Stayed in the best around the world. I appreciate History, the last property I stopped in of this age was my Grandmothers 12 century Cottage. Loved the weekend.....x Food was amazing. Would recommend to family and friends......
Review 7:Room 14 on 1st night had a shower which only ran luke warm, an uncomfortable bed and a disgusting toilet with heavy brown staining. Reception were not very interested. Moved to room 28 for 2nd night and the toilet was exactly the same - disgusting. As we changed rooms in the morning we told lady in reception and the cleaner but it was still the same when we got back that evening. Why did the manager not check up after a complaint? Cleaning staff who feel this is acceptable are in the wrong job.
Review 8:Breakfast and breakfast staff, pool, barman, food, young receptionist who checked us out and scottish duty manager were excellent. Bed and shower in room 28 on 2nd night were also good.
Review 9:When my husband needed another napkin in the restaurant (he'd had spare ribs for starters) he was given a used napkin from the next table where a couple had been previously seated. It didn't look dirty but I don't think that this should have happened.
Review 10:Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when we had to ask twice how to use the TV! The hotel was quiet and we got a free upgrade which was absolutely amazing. The hotel is beautiful and we would definitely recommend it.
Review 11:Had a fabulous time at the Hotel. We enjoyed the afternoon Tea for 2 and the evening meal in the restaurant was 1st class. The leisure club facilities were a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We chose a room with a four poster bed which was so comfortable. All the staff were helpful and friendly, service was excellent and we will definately be returning in the New Year.
Review 12:The only thing I could say is that the standard double room is a little on the small side.
Review 13:The hotel was lovely and the staff were so polite and helpful.
Review 14:Only one chair in our room!
Review 15:Situation - easy to find, close to motorways but quiet park-like grounds. Serving staff very pleasant, impressive panelled bar and elegant lounge.
Review 16:We had booked a four poster room but on the day of arrival we were informed that there was a problem with the door and so this particular room was not available. I was disappointed as we had just got married but was relieved that there was an alternative room although very basic.
Review 17:We were able to check in very late and staff were really friendly and helpful.
Review 18:very minor. Signage could be better at the entrance. No free range eggs on offer. If have mobility issues quite steep steps up to reception, however, there may have been another entrance that I am not aware of
Review 19:Staff were very friendly and keen to help. Rooms were in an annexe, were quiet, warm, clean and comfortable. Had extra heater and pillows in wardrobe but were not needed. Loads of parking. Bar/lounge area very cozy, and relaxed.
Review 20:Usual statement concerning cleaning of towels and the environment however didn't replace towels left in the bath.
Review 21:Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, breakfasts were excellent. Clean comfortable facilities.
Review 22:It was very difficult to get a phone or wifi signal in our room (53) which is understandable because of the very thick walls (a wifi booster might help)
Review 23:We stay in hotels on a regular basis and are very often disappointed. This hotel however is one of the best we've stayed in. The staff are friendly and helpful, our room was very clean and comfortable. The restaurant and breakfast was great. We will be more than happy to stay there again.
Review 24:Two people in a room, only received single bath and hand towels, same for soap and shower gel. TV was analogue with Freeview adapter, picture was awful. No lift, corridors smelt of urine. Badly in need of refurbishment.
Review 25:Not a lot.
Review 26:The standard room was very basic and quite small and we had a dripping tap noise all night long. The toiletries and towels didn't get changed every day and the room got quite chilly of a night which left the windows all steamed up of a morning. Also the driveway to the hotel has lots of pot holes and speed bumps so be careful
Review 27:The hotel pool and saunas were excellent but away from the main building. The breakfasts were very good
Review 28:Room 39 TV sound needs attention and note to tell customers how to turn it on Shower needs attention - water running down pipe making hardly any water coming out of nozzle Water doesn't run away down shower - needs to be unblocked Need to put extra duvet in wardrobe Turned up radiator to 6 but was still lukewarm.
Review 29:Shabby, everywhere was looking tired and in particular the common parts and the entrance to the hotel and the reception. We stayed in the rooms in the annex and the outside entrance is poor and in need of refurbishment. Little engagement with the staff. No one enquired whether we had had a nice stay when we checked out. Wouldn't recommend. Breakfast was poor.
Review 30:ClocTion
Review 31:Loved the setting, had a Cosmopolitan room no.15 needs an bit of an overhaul , it's small and I didn't like thinks like plugs fixed to dressing table with no safety notes for being passed as ok, Bed comfiest I have slept in for a long time. Bathroom needs a revamp and bedroom very dark, no lights in bit of hallway or over mirror. Stalff were all 10 out of 10 and 1 thing was it was Full and had a 50th birthday on but when we got back after 12 and it was quite we will stay again but will book a different grade and get a better room . Ps Excellent Breakfast
Review 32:The room wasn't very warm - maybe that was the drawback of having a big room
Review 33:The room was v spacious as was the bathroom The staff were helpful The breakfasts were good
Review 34:Bit dark by the dressing table to apply makeup etc also no nearby plug for the hairdryer.
Review 35:The building was beautiful. Our room in the Manor House was spacious and the bathroom was huge !
Review 36:We felt the only let down to our room was some muddy foot prints on the carpet when we arrived and the mattress had seen its day and was rather hard
Review 37:Friendly helpful staff with a great pool and breakfast was lovely
Review 38:We had upgraded our room to a 4 poster room via booking.com a few days before we arrived, but when we got to the hotel, the receptionist informed us these rooms were already fully booked, which was very disappointing. A few minutes later she came back and told us that the manager had authorised an upgrade to 'The boardroom suite' for the same price. Wow! what a fantastic room. - If we need to stay in this area again, we'll definitely head for Haughton Hall and 'The boardroom' again!
Review 39:The hall desperately needs investment. The room was musty and damp and the furnishings were very dated.
Review 40:It's a nice location and the area is beautifully peaceful. A great place to get away for a weekend. Staff were friendly and we had a really good breakfast.
Review 41:Mattresses could do with being updated and they had an annoying toilet seat that wouldn't stay up....just small things really. Wi-Fi wasn't very stable at times.
Review 42:The grounds were great with the hotel being in nice surroundings. They have footgolf, so take your boots :)
Review 43:The bed was really hard. The staff were rude. The shower was barely warm. No treatments were available due to having to prebook which wasnt clear on the website during the booking process. My partner and I both work 7 day weeks...he works nights and I work days so we barely see each other. Our visit was the first weekend off we have had for four months and we were looking forward to relax but that didnt happen. We didnt enjoy our stay and were put in an instand mood with the way we were treated on arrival. The receptionist was extremely rude and we were left to find our room ourselves...even though it was uo stairs and through three corridors. I wouod not recommend staying here and we will deffinetly not be staying again. After traveling three hours to get there to be treated like common folk that shouldnt be there was extremely disrespectful. We work hard for our money and did not appriciate the way we were treated.
Review 44:location
Review 45:Very helpful staff - attentive to detail When my steak was a little overcooked they whisked it away and i got a fresh plate. Onion rings were heavenly!
Review 46:The decor in room was dated, the bed was uncomfortable and room 29 was above kitchen so extractor fan kept us awake, there was a large wedding party who were very noisy til early hours outside front of hotel, so not much sleep!
Review 47:We loved the country location, good facilities and nice breakfast.
Review 48:Loved Haughton Hall and surrounds. It was all perfect. Our room was impressive and comfortable. The staff friendly. Evening meal and breakfast very enjoyable. Would love to return on next trip from Australia.
Review 49:The staff particularly the barman had no personality or communication skills what so ever, the beds were really uncomfortable along with the pillows, the bedrooms themselves lacked an awful lot. There was a musty smell upon arrival in the bedrooms. The evening meal that cost us £120.00 for 4 on the Saturday evening was at best average and the restaurant was not even half full go god help you if its busier. The hotel overall is tired and in need of a pretty urgent make over and some staff with just a small amount of ability to communicate a little. The hotel and surrounding have a huge amount of potential to be something really special, the bar Is a great example were no thought has been taken to the surrounding and the décor including the modern furniture-yuk.
Review 50:We had a weekend at the Weston Park Game fair and stayed in the same location not hotel last year. That hotel was not available and now I can see why this hotel was. Not appearing to be too negative the few things we felt were OK was the location, and parts of the breakfast.
Review 51:Décor and furnishings a bit tired. Didn't appreciate heavy rock music coming from the kitchen at breakfast!
Review 52:Beautiful location and good leisure facilities. Friendly staff.
Review 53:Television reception poor, limited channels, no Sky News. Room a little tired, widows need a good clean. Power point for bedroom kettle not easily accessible, found it behind desk on extension lead.
Review 54:Location very nice and quiet, breakfast excellent. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 55:Not a problem for us but no lift would put others off although it is an old building and to be expected. No vegetarian sausages at breakfast, I can get these easily in lower budget hotels so I think this is a must not only for vegetrians but for people who want the healthy option too!
Review 56:Nice surrounding area and close to networks for exploring Shropshire. Quiet set back from the road, relaxed enviroment. Room avaiable an hour early which was helpful.
Review 57:unfortunatley our bed was way to hard and the pillows also had no give in them so generally had a poor nights sleep approx 2hours went to bed at 10.15pm rose at 9am so not to happy, Bed spotlessly clean just not right for us would suit someone who likes a firm bed???
Review 58:Have stayed before quite happy with hotel Staff very friendly and helpful views superb all round. Room 26 was extra large it was comfortable Old as you would expect but very clean, good TV and was quiet in this area Food in resturant was V-good Breakfast was also ample wifi was working ok in room plenty of parking space.
Review 59:The Hotel is very tired looking and needing big investment. I was asked to pay 60p for a towel in the fitness and pool centre! Sorry to say I will not be returning.
Review 60:Staff were unhelpful No Room In Restaurant Bland Menu in Bar No Staff AtBreakfast Basic Room - Not as Described on Booking.Com Noisy Room HotelShabby & In Need of tlc
Review 61:Location
Review 62:Poor room not what you expect and amazed any one would use it for functions or weddings. Hole in bedding, wallpaper coming off wall, smelt musty. Although the staff were helpful, duty manager only had the power to give us £10 discount. The pictures on the internet do not reflect the property. No picture of annex on Internet.
Review 63:Because it's a listed building, no lifts, but help offered with luggage - we are fit so not a problem for us.
Review 64:Beautiful grounds, good gym and pool, great views from the lounge and restaurant.
Review 65:Reception room slightly odd. One morning receptionist eating cooked breakfast there. Entrance to annex rooms not good and annex not clear to find. Had to have keys to rooms55and56 redone many times.so lots of times up and down stairs.
Review 66:All staff helpful and pleasant.
Review 67:The room was spacious with a large bathroom. Food quality was excellent and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable to my wife who is Coeliac. Beautiful grounds too.
Review 68:Only downside was plastic cups in the bathroom instead of glasses.
Review 69:Peaceful location. Spectacular Grounds. Friendly staff. Nice bar. Use of pool, spa sauna, gym is a real bonus.
Review 70:Room was very dated decor. And poor workmanship on decorating windows would not open, bathroom dated but lots of space in room in main building. We moved from a smaller room newer in building, added on to main building, small room and with just as poor decor as other room wallpaper on ceiling coming off and very poor taste of decor.. But a nice view of grounds. RECOMMEND that it should be painted white with a wallpaper feature wall. And no flower boarder that was poorly done. Simple.. And cheap and brings it up the the standards of other rooms we have stayed at.
Review 71:The facility's are very good a pool and health club, enjoyed a nice swim, breakfast was good and staff helpfull. The grounds around the hotel nice but under kept. Girl on reception very helpful and hardworking
Review 72:No bedside table to one side of the bed. Hot and cold shower. Need a map to find your room; the signage is silly. The tone of the sound system in the dining room means that the output is indiscernible and annoying.
Review 73:Facility is away from noisy roads and railways. Indoor pool.
Review 74:Was told in leisure facility of a 60p charge for towel (this was not charged!!!). Bedroom window, sash type, top section would only stay up if fully closed. Lack of shelf space in bathroom and no stool - only place for sponge bag was on the window sill.
Review 75:Friendly helpful staff, good leisure facilities
Review 76:Wifi can be very dodgy. Not possible to get a glass of wine around 11pm even though there is a bar and a night porter. Pool and sauna are old and not always that clean.
Review 77:Very quiet. Pool, sauna and gym. Staff in general very friendly. Very reasonable price.
Review 78:The bed was very uncomfortable we woke up every day with a bad back ache the room was ok but had a damp smell to it and the false ceiling spoilt it. The fishing lake needed work doing to it.
Review 79:The grounds where very nice, staff very friendly ,breakfast was excellent, hotel clean
Review 80:I booked this room for my daughter and asked prior to thier arrival to charge my debit card which they agreed to do. When they booked out they were asked to pay for the room as they had not taken the payment from my debit card. Not very happy
Review 81:I think some part sof the hotel looked 'tired' - however whilst i was there I saw that decorating was being carried out.
Review 82:Lovely location - accessible to motorway and the setting is beautiful
Review 83:very dirty windows , poached eggs for breakfast on very wet toast (soggy) evening meal of fish and chips we wondered if it was a quiz "find the fish" price of one meal taken off the bill. All in all a very tired place we will not go there again
Review 84:leaving the hotel to explore the area
Review 85:Reception down a corridor rather than near front door. Not very welcoming and extension building awful looked so 60's and spoils the look of main beautiful building. Such potential here this could be a very upmarket classy place as location and building so beautiful. Bedroom ceilings awful tiles and furnishings so worn and outdated.
Review 86:Location and quiet beautiful surroundings. Staff very friendly and bed so comfortable. Breakfast good and lovely to be served. Thank you.
Review 87:Wireless did not work - a real pain especially when mobile signal poor Property rather run down No complimentary water
Review 88:Good breakfast, functional rooms
Review 89:Room was a bit cramped, some elements in need of updating. Breakfast was a bit overcooked.
Review 90:Good location and nice grounds. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 91:Poor WIFI also not disabled friendly we had a ground floor room but a shower over the bath with no grab rails or walk in showers, there were showers in rooms on upper floors but no lifts this understandable as it's a beautiful listed building . I feel walk in showers should have been put in ground floor rooms the bathroom was very good and refurbished huge enough room for a shower.
Review 92:Room comfortable, food excellent . Staff superb especially Mandy who was our breakfast server a credit to the hotel, will go back as overall excellent beautiful grounds.
Review 93:We had booked an easily accessible room or at least near a lift. There is no lift and our room was up several sets of stairs.
Review 94:Our room was very comfortable although in need of decoration. Newly fitted ensuite though.
Review 95:Very respectable building and atmosphere is friendly Ample and secure parking Have already recommended the hall to others We will definitely try to book again
Review 96:Very rude staff, loud disco music until midnight, dirty carpets and poor breakfast, tinned fruit and nothing fresh. Appalling value for money.
Review 97:Not a lot
Review 98:The pictures are very well taken and I perhaps expected a more modern bedroom setting. the bar has been refurbished and I am sure they are making their way around the remaining facility over time.
Review 99:It was conveniently close to where I needed to be
Review 100:There was absolutely nothing that we didn't like
Review 101:The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and you could choose whatever you wanted, with plenty on offer. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with a hospitality tray which was filled each day. The room was tidied every day which was not expected by us, the staff just did it! The hotel was in an excellent position too. Very peaceful setting but not too far from the attractions in the area. All in all we had a lovely stay and will definitely return again. Thank you to the staff
Review 102:I would change the colour scheme. Remove the maroon from everywhere and replace with warm neutral colours. Remove the wallpaper plaques from the walls and replace with some guilt or wooden framed paintings in keeping with the age of the property.
Review 103:Tranquil surroundings. Sitting by the lake. Very pleasant and helpful staff especially with suitcase. Good food and served well. Enjoyed being able to swim at the Spa.
Review 104:The staff from check in did not seem to really take much interest. Even when i checked out did not even ask if I enjoyed my stay. Food was not bad but not great value when local pubs offer bigger menu at better prices. Shame as the hotel is good.
Review 105:The hotel offered many facilities with bar and lounge, spa and pool. The room was well presented clean and offered good value. Nice restaurant.
Review 106:Service was very poor. It would appear that the hotel staff were employed in a number of areas within the hotel and therefore took a look time to appear to actually serve in the bar or breakfast room.
Review 107:Rooms comfy and hotel in a great setting. Easy access to town and amenities.
Review 108:Nothing.
Review 109:The adjacent facilities (swimming pool, sauna, steam room, spa pool, gym) were great. The main old building is set in large grounds, peaceful sleep with window open.
Review 110:Everything, explored the grounds, the lake on a beautiful sunny evening. Saw the white squirrel! Enjoyed a drink in the bar before dining in the restaurant. Room very comfortable had a great stay
Review 111:The comfortable room, the excellent bar and restaurant and the relaxing spa facilities all added up to a great and very good value stay. We would definitely return.
Review 112:Spectacular property and grounds, smiling helpful staff, best wifi ever, good size room with comfortable big bed, leisure facilities included, excellent breakfast and dinner. A bit dusty and flaky in places but not a problem.
Review 113:Location, close enough to motorway to be a good stop en-route from Scotland to Devon. Even though kitchen was closed by the time we arrived they still checked asked if we needed food, this was a very nice touch.
Review 114:Our room was very small and claustrophobic, decorated in dark colours. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and when I asked for some bread with my starter I was told I would have to pay £2.69 as it would be on the extra's menu.
Review 115:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good.
Review 116:Me and my Girlfriend came to haughton hall on sunday night. We had booked a manor suite room but were upgraded to a four poster room which was amazing. We had a truly wonderful time together. Highly recomended
Review 117:Reception do not have a map of the area with its features and amenities. When we asked for a map another traveller wanted a map also.
Review 118:The breakfasts in the restaurant were outstanding including porridge and eggs done just right. Despite the oldy worldy building, the atmosphere was relaxed and homely
Review 119:Location good for our work away from town, cleanliness and facilities good, also has gym and pool. Price good although it was a special deal. Have stayed in many similar places on special deals but none up to this standard.
Review 120:The hotel is in need of refurbishment. This will be expensive if the historical character is to be maintained (I speak from experience). Breakfast was excellent, dinner was average. The bar was waiting for deliveries and was out of stock of some items.
Review 121:The history and the extensive grounds
Review 122:Bedroom was in an annexe, which meant a walk in the rain to and from the room. There is a way to get there without going outside but, as it appears to go past the staff quarters, guests seem to be discouraged from using it. Bedroom was small for a double, shower was OK, but drain smell apparent in the bathroom. Breakfast was regrettably typical of most hotels these days. Pre-cooked food kept hot in the kitchen to the point that fried eggs were solid and sausage over-cooked. You wouldn't serve food like that for dinner, so why do so for breakfast? It's just lazy. Would I stay here again? No, probably not, even though the total bill was not excessive.
Review 123:The lounge bar area was comfortable and the dinners we had in that area were very good. Bar staff were attentive and friendly and the beers well served.
Review 124:The hotel's WiFi was problematic during my visit. I would not hold this against them as everything else about the stay was great.
Review 125:Great period manor rooms and excellent grounds allow you to lose yourself in the charm of years past. Conveniently located within walking distance of Shifnal and a short drive away from museums and historic landmarks.
Review 126:The location was very nice, with the hotel location in woodland. The room was clean, comfortable and the free wifi worked well. The price I got from the website was also excellent, especially as the decision to stop in the area was at very short notice.
Review 127:Only one bedside table and lamp. Wifi signal poor in room 10. TV ready for renewal, poor sound quality and difficult to find channels. Wedding in progress meant we couldn't use bar or lounge, fortunately plenty of licenced premises in the village. Details like this make the difference between an ok hotel and a great one.
Review 128:Location. Staff friendly.
Review 129:Room was smelly, poor breakfast, dinners were just ok. Rooms shabby.
Review 130:Lovely staff, couldn't be more helpful. Huge rooms with wonderful view (room 21)
