Reviews for The House Hotel

Review 1:Just the breakfast, rashers were overcooked and scrambled eggs just average, something that could be rectified easily.

Review 2:We got free upgrade to great room. No extra charge. Mention staff were great especially Jamie,

Review 3:The girls were very nice on the front desk but I was told nothing about a bar, food, breakfast etc. My room was v pokey and overlooked so I had to keep my curtains pulled which was very unpleasant. As a solo female guest I felt quite isolated and a little uneasy as my room was so far from reception and down a long corridor and I never saw or heard another guest It was very obvious I was given a cheap internet deal room.

Review 4:The location and decor of the foyer. Bright and colourful and welcoming.

Review 5:Sorry to say but one of the barman was in desperate need of a shower....the smell of B.O. On Saturday night was overwhelming when you'd approach the bar.

Review 6:The breakfast could be better. No fruit salad just big lumps of two types of melon. Coffee not piping hot. Scrambled eggs not great.

Review 7:The location is very good; loads of restaurants within a few minutes walk

Review 8:Hotel needs a deep deep clean. Carpets in hallways stank and badly need updating. Breakfast was extremely disappointing - very poor choice for continental. The room was roasting but couldn't open windows due to street noise and air con didn't work.

Review 9:Location

Review 10:really enjoyed the hotel, however was disappointed to find that we could not eat in Hotel, we really wanted to relax over dinner but restaurant was not open.

Review 11:Dining room a little cold. The stairway has a slightly bad smell (wet dog smell!) and considering the time of year we were there, perhaps a seasonal candle would have helped.

Review 12:Nice and relaxed, staff were very pleasant and helpful. And we were in the centre of things. The style of this hotel is unique and very quirky with lots of splashes of colour.

Review 13:Everything. Quirky decor (I am an American graphic designer, and appreciated the attention to detail). Beds were fantastic after long days walking about in the chill. Breakfast was delicious (my husband loved the meusli!). Great location. Close enough to things, but away from noise.

Review 14:Smell in carpet in hall whilst waiting for lifts ...need to be cleanedor changed..as hotel really lovely but it lets the place down.

Review 15:Location ..decor in reception and bedroom

Review 16:no immediate parking, had to ask for heating to be put on, could hear music from bar in room on 1st floor, smell on first floor not great.

Review 17:location, furniture, good bed, nice toiletries, free water, good breakfast.

Review 18:Rooms beginning to show wear and age. Had deluxe room and shower had no pressure. Heating was not turned on and after requesting twice it took a few hours to come up to temperature.

Review 19:Great location and reception area very relaxing

Review 20:Everything else. Booked double room got two beds pushed together in small triangle shaped room. Found hair in bathtub.no parking. Asked for a cocktail on menu in bar was told they didnt have ingredients for it. Waited for coffee with breakfast and came very late cold. Sausages on menu tasted rotten.Expensive for what we got.

Review 21:The location

Review 22:Nothing.

Review 23:Hotel is in a great location. Close to city centre & Christmas Market. Doesn't have its own car park but there is a special rate with nearby multi story car park. Staff all v pleasant & efficient. We only ate breakfast there & it was v tasty. Had a great stay overall.Got good rate on booking.com.

Review 24:Had to pay for parking which was not on the grounds of hotel it was a little walk away. It said on website they had parking but they don't.

Review 25:Great location the staff were fantastic, a very cosy atmosphere in the hotel. The bed was very comfortable

Review 26:I didn't like the two beds together. We ended up falling down the middle and it was quite uncomfortable.

Review 27:I loved the atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. I also enjoyed a great breakfast that catered for my very awkward health related diet.

Review 28:Beds are ever so slightly uncomfy but on the plus side they are really big!:)

Review 29:The decor is just too cute.. location is perfect and cocktails are amaaaaazing!

Review 30:Staff were efficient but not particularly warm or welcoming. No dinner being served on night we stayed there.

Review 31:Location, breakfast, lobby area, bathroom in bedroom.

Review 32:We found a fairly big cockroach in our bathroom! Mentioned and showed a photo to receptionist on check out. She apologised but no refund or reduction. Also emailed afterwards with no response after 4 days (I did leave it late). Breakfast service a bit slow. The room was a little small.

Review 33:Very clean and comfy rooms

Review 34:The hotel frontage could be a bit more attractive and inviting.

Review 35:The service was very good on arrival-able to check into room early. Staff very friendly and efficient. Hotel decor very attractive and not usual hotel decor. The breakfast was very good. The location is excellent for a city break - all amenities very close by.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:This is the second time we have stayed at the house hotel. The hotel is lovely but the thing that stands out is the staff. They are all helpful, friendly and efficient.Bring on the third trip

Review 38:A bit of a wait at the bar during day for drink even when bar staff are behind the bar!! But cocktails fab !

Review 39:Lovely place great location close to shops Breakfast lovely Great selection of fruits, cheeses, meats and hot breakfast Suite lovely and shower was really good

Review 40:Lovely room, fantastic location. Friendly and helpful staff. There were a few problems during our stay, mainly due to forces beyond the hotel's control. What distinguished this hotel far and above any other we've ever stayed in was the generosity of management in making sure we were compensated fairly.

Review 41:Room was tiny Bathroom facilities tiny Stains on carpet floor were very bad Service at breakfast was slow forgetful and pretty poor

Review 42:Staff were extremely nice Decor nice Breakfast good

Review 43:room is small, breakfast service was slow when I was there (weekday after 9 am).

Review 44:very cute hotel with really cute rooms. Nicely decorated and very clean. have a cafe on premises. ate breakfast there and the food was good. location is great for shopping and pub/dining locations.

Review 45:After paying 200 euros for a room, they asked for an extra 2.75 euros for a cappucino at breakfast as only tea or regular coffee were included. I havent seen that before and it was disappointing.

Review 46:Nearly everything

Review 47:This is a hip hotel in the center of the Latin Quarter but there is so much to see in this area of Galway. The room was uber comfortable and amenities were top notch. Staff was courteous and amenable. I just wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 48:We loved this Hotel. Wonderful staff at reception, housekeeping, in the bar and the restaurant. We stayed for 4 nights and the location could not be better. Close to Quay Street and a short walk up to Eyre Square. We took 2 bus tours and they picked us up at The Jury's Inn around the corner, perfect. The last night their water tank burst and flooded the kitchen and put the elevator out of order, but the staff quickly adopted contingency plans and the next morning had arranged for us to have breakfast off site and we seen staff helping guests with their luggage on the stairway, they did an an amazing job considering this happened on a weekend and must have been challenging to have repairmen in to resolve all the issues. Highly recommend this property.

Review 49:hot water failed and we kept getting wrong information on when it would be fixed. Had to shower in a room on another floor. One inexperienced staff person who could not answer questions, but rest were great.

Review 50:location; lovely lounge; great eclectic decor; room comfortable; great mix of guests. Restaurant was great as well.

Review 51:As mentioned in other reviews - no privacy in bathroom owing to absurd glass door fittings

Review 52:Very good breakfast - close to the town centre - staff helpful

Review 53:I stayed in for dinner & had Belly Pork for main - the meat was delicious but I'm not convinced all that was put on the plate should have been - perhaps I'm getting on a bit - but it was too 'fancy' for my taste! It would have been better in a Art Gallery!

Review 54:It's been 18 months since my last visit & they have done/doing lots of re-furb work. It is looking good.

Review 55:The hotel was perfectly situated on the lovely quays and right on the start of the latin quarter for all the restaurants and bars. The carpark was very close easy to use and very reasonably priced

Review 56:Would never stay on a Friday or Saturday again, Bar music thumping in the bedroom until after 1am.

Review 57:Beautiful Hotel, friendly staff. Breakfast of ok quality, not fantastic for the price.

Review 58:Traffic and the roads in Galway are difficult and the hotel is difficult to find by car without satnav. The lack of a private car park is a negative. Paying for parking in a public multi-storey car park a few hundred yards away is not satisfactory.

Review 59:The hotel was excellent, staff were good and the location was good for seeing the city of Galway.

Review 60:Our room (305) was a bit airless and the bed was quite firm.

Review 61:The staff that we met were all lovely, and very helpful. We loved the proximity to so many live music venues and decent restaurants.

Review 62:A wee bit hard to find, but that was partly our fault. Well worth finding, though. Some of us were not fond of the hot pink accents in the public areas.

Review 63:Everything. Staff, bar, breakfast, room, bed, all near perfect, especially for the price.

Review 64:room was very small. the shower tiles and shower base were dirty with black mould......totally unacceptable when charging a premium.numerous stains on carpet. very disappointed with room

Review 65:staff and location

Review 66:The window in our room could not be opened - too hot at night

Review 67:Very quirky place with lovely atmosphere. Staff were very nice and friendly and breakfast was cooked fresh.

Review 68:Mix up in booking. Room not ready on arrival as advised. Damp carpet near bathroom. No secure area for left luggage. Left luggage on display from street.

Review 69:Bed. Bath. Breakfast. Friendly staff.Location. Good wifi. Toiletries.

Review 70:Minor gripe- no on site parking, had to walk about 100 yards from multi storey car park to hotel, but to be honest this is soon forgotten when you get in hotel

Review 71:Everything- staff could not do enough for you, great location, lovely quirky hotel

Review 72:Really no complaints at all but we found frosted glass bathroom door with gap around it not pleasing. Also bath tub very deep with high side needed more safety bars for older folks to use, and Elevator was slow.

Review 73:Very friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable relaxing atmosphere. Great breakfast with continental buffet and many hot selections one can order from menu. Dining area was large and comfortable: A small tray of sweets in room upon arrival was a lovely welcoming touch.

Review 74:My wife Was a little disappointed that the room didn't have a bath. Apart from that, the stay was enjoyable.

Review 75:Excellent staff with a helpful and cheerful attitude. The room was clean and well presented. The location suited us well as it was quiet enough to feel comfortable, yet close enough to the busy part of town so not to feel isolated.

Review 76:No bad experience but would have liked to have on site parking as one of us is disabled.

Review 77:The friendliness of the staff on reception in particular, the rooms were beautiful, the hotel had an aura of calm. It was located well.

Review 78:The breakfast buffet is scarse. However, if your booking includes the breakfast, you have 1 free dish from a menu a-la-carte (must admit, that dish was outstanding). Cappuccino is considered an extra (coffee with milk is not).

Review 79:The position of the hotel is great: in the heart of the latin quartier, yet in a peaceful corner. Room was clean, comfortable and provided with all necessities. Staff is helpful and kind.

Review 80:Parking in public car park 200 yards away acceptable but not ideal; public rooms pretty basic

Review 81:Easy walk to Galway's attractions; comfortable (but not super-deluxe) room; good breakfast

Review 82:Not sure if the upgrade offered and taken might have been better spent, but the room was very comfortable. Just wondered about the size of the 'standard' if the improved accommodation was described as being significantly bigger.

Review 83:Location, location, location - a quiet corner of Galway city centre, a few yards from the vibrant heart of a buzzing boisterous city, miles away from the noise and only a few strides from the Claddagh and the sea-side space. Modern, classy operation with the same high-quality staff you seem to find as the default setting in Ireland. Nearby parking a useful bonus.

Review 84:I wish checkout was later, I didn't want to leave!!!:)

Review 85:The staff were kind enough to upgrade us to a super deluxe room as it was our anniversary. We were also surprised with a little happy anniversary note and some sweet treats in the room. It was a lovely touch!

Review 86:Semi-translucent glass doors in bathroom. Gap allowed others to see you in the bathroom. A little weird. Crazy pink and green colors throughout.

Review 87:Staff was friendly and accommodating. Walk through alley to main shopping/pub area. Elevator was helpful with older family members.

Review 88:We liked everything else about this hotel, but be aware that the opaque glass doors to the bathrooms don't provide absolute privacy. Like in many boutique hotels now, this feature is "cool" but not functional.

Review 89:Great location near all the action; great staff; great breakfast; cool decor.

Review 90:A little noisy with the window open but air con available and good soundproof windows.

Review 91:Great location, close to all the bars, restaurants and a reasonable walk to the beach / promenade. Reasonably priced parking close by. Friendly staff. Amazing breakfast. Great cocktails at the bar albeit a little expensive

Review 92:The room was clean but a little care-worn. The internet connection did not work well. If a band is playing downstairs, expect to hear it in your room.

Review 93:Good location for touring the city of Galway. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was great!

Review 94:It is a beautiful hotel, I loved the décor, Staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. The location is good too. I would recommend staying here again.

Review 95:We drove around for awhile as we could not find the hotel. There is no address and directions were vague.

Review 96:the reception was friendly and efficient. The room modern and clean. Comfy beds.

Review 97:We were told that our room would be ready at 2:00pm. We ended up having to wait until 2:30pm. There was no explanation for the delay. When we complained, we were told that the official check in time was 3:00pm. If that was the case, the receptionist should have told us from the beginning, instead of creating false expectations. The front line staff should be better trained in customer service and handling customer feedback.

Review 98:Location. Comfort of the room.

Review 99:Rooms are very compact, bathroom door not good for people who don't know each other very well in that there is not enough privacy. The rooms are also a little dark.

Review 100:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The decor was very stylish and the breakfast was good. The location was excellent and could not be beat.

Review 101:Corridors and lift lobby had very stale, almost sicky smell which was off putting. Double bed was 2 beds pushed together. Room very small for the amount we paid. Breakfast service slow, panicked and staff rude!

Review 102:Location was perfect for exploring Galway city. Breakfast food was good. Reception staff friendly and efficient.

Review 103:I was given a room that was not prepared for a guest,it was cold and at the end of the corridor, there was an odd smell in the bathroom. After complaining I was changed to a much bigger, warm room.

Review 104:location is great, food is good.the bedrooms are well insulated with no street noise.

Review 105:The location was very convenient to the center of the city. However, it was hard to find by car and the staff was not very helpful in providing directions. You must park a few blocks away and drag luggage. It is difficult to stop in front of the hotel itself, due to traffic patterns.

Review 106:Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. I felt comfortable at this hotel just coming and going. Some of The breakfast staff were a little tired, perhaps it was too early in the morning for them. The breakfast food was also a little ordinary and rather tired looking as well. Apart from that I found my stay there great and would highly recommend it.

Review 107:The 2 reception desk attendants (sorry i couldnt remember their names) were absolutely helpful as we had a tragedy during our trip and they helped us make arrangements. Thank you!

Review 108:Frosted glass door for bathroom toilet which couldn't be locked.

Review 109:Location is excellent! Less than 3 mins walk to the Main Street filled with bars, resteraunts and shops! Loved our stay and would deffinately return

Review 110:Had to check out very early; would not provide any food at all for breakfast, which by the way was included in room rate! Lift out of order, had to carry bags down three floors ( been out since prior evening).

Review 111:Fantastic location, great room!

Review 112:Room Service finished at 8.30 on a Sunday which was ridiculously early for a hotel of this quality. For a business user, this was very disappointing.

Review 113:Room was noisy, small and did not have a hair dryer or bath. Carpet and walls looked tired. Service in the bar was very slow.

Review 114:Location was excellent. Decor in reception and restaurant was fantastic. The lady on reception desk was very nice.

Review 115:Awful stale smell outside lifts and in corridors --new filter in vacuummight help. No shampoo in bathroom. No security for left luggage. Wecould have taken anyones case as the receptionist neither lifted herhead to greet us nor did she check which cases we were removing. Fruitsalad not replenished at breakfast. Not possible to have one poached eggon toast , was served two and told ''the toast will comelater'' This happened on both mornings.

Review 116:Very comfortable beds Early check in as room had been vacant thenight before.

Review 117:This place has a fun (though perhaps slightly girly) atmosphere, and is very nicely located in the Latin Quarter. Room was perfectly fine, staff were helpful, and the breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable (as were the cocktails in the bar). Our one regret was that we couldn't stay another day.

Review 118:Seating areas in reception/bar area seemed constantly reserved for parties which meant guests sometimes had nowhere to sit for a drink.

Review 119:Staff were extremely helpful and the breakfasts more than ample for a good start to your day.

Review 120:Driving in to Galway Lower Merchants lane to try to find it. Did 5 circuits of one way streets trying to get close and Sat Nav with Avis hire car could not locate the House hotel or the recommmended Hynes car park. Would still be circling now if I hadn't had a good navigator sat with me & google maps on data roaming.

Review 121:Location near quay street but not on it. Relaxed but attentive staff. Lovely decor. Hynes car park location & price excellent once we found it, see below.

Review 122:Our TV came on by itself both nights at the same time and woke us up!

Review 123:The staff were very efficient and friendly, room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, breakfast menu had great selection available.

Review 124:Bathroom door doesn't shut 100% - designed that way - not nice. Bitpink for my man but I'd come back with the girls

Review 125:Beautifully decorated+comfortable+great location

Review 126:The breakfast was ok but service was a bit disorganized. We didn't try the Irish breakfast but probably should have. Robes in the rooms would have been nice.

Review 127:We got a free room upgrade which was much appreciated. We found our room quiet and enjoyed the bath. I think

Review 128:Hotel rooms & general access are not conducive for young children access e.g. Prams. Breakfast was not as good as the evening meal.

Review 129:Central location The general atmosphere Evening meal Extremely friendly staff

Review 130:We were very disappointed with the room as I paid extra for a deluxe room. I specifically asked for room not near boiler with nice view. The room was right next to the boiler and we looked out on a tatty back year. The room was very small and stuffy. Bathroom door not properly hung so no privacy when in the toilet, not good enough! Very disappointing. Will not return!

Review 131:Great breakfast. Cocktails delicious!

Review 132:I didn't like the small counter available in the bathroom. The area around the bed was small as well - we couldn't quite get our suitcases to fit as well as we'd like.

Review 133:I really liked the location, decor, and the breakfast options.

Review 134:didn't find out about the parking arrangements until we had paid for street parking. We had been placed in the next room to a hen night room and the disco was very loud till quite late.

Review 135:Best breakfast of our tour by far . Beds were very comfortable. Room a bit on the small side but location made up for that.

Review 136:Being a small hotel there was no engineer on site in the evening. One of the lights did not work and someone came right away. attended the problem by replacing the bulb within a minute or 2. Unfortunately the problem was more complex. I guess it comes with the territory. being small and not outrageously expansive means can't afford a 24 hour technician.

Review 137:Amost everything
