Reviews for Tonge Barn
Review 1:Nothing more than basis motel. Door do not have proper liock. Pictures deceiving Cannot turn around in shower. Inadequate sink in bathroom. Internet did not work in room no signal.
Review 2:Pretty location.
Review 3:The only thing which we found very weird is there is no door in those rooms facing the courtyard. That's very uncomfortable to use the toilet and have no door from the bedroom. Specially for couples if it's their first date together it's very odd feeling. We were unpleasantly surprised by that but there is nothing we could do.
Review 4:Good idea of converting a barn to the hotel. Staff is really good, Silvia made our room very welcomING by placing a candle and champagne glasses.comfy bed and very tasty breakfast. Overall everything is very good, surroundings are lovely
Review 5:The exact location was difficult to find using the GPS.
Review 6:Generally a good location for travelling in east Kent. Food (breakfast) was superb, staff were very friendly.
Review 7:The open plan idea of the bedroom leading into the toilet and bathroom. No doors means no privacy when toilet is needed. Walls too thin. Could hear everything the next room was doing.
Review 8:The style of rooms and parking right outside your room.
Review 9:The very small Bathroom is tricky. Tiny basin that doesn't take two hands, and washing up the cups was impossible. No rails to hang towels, not enough shelving or surface to store toiletries, little space to turn around (and I am a small person). No wardrobe in the bedroom. Bedroom had inadequate, lighting which made the room look very drab and depressing.
Review 10:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Reception area most attractive.
Review 11:I booked two double rooms for a colleague and myself but on arrival we were given a double and a single. In my single room, the Wi-Fi did not work and it was very close to the adjacent train line which rumbled late in to the night and early in the morning. The decking outside my room was very slippy. In the morning, I slipped over with my cases and got dirt all over my suit and bruises down my RHS. There was no room key for my room so I had to take me valuables with me if I wanted to leave. Apparently the room key should just be in the room when you get there but it wasn't there and they din't have a spare.
Review 12:The room was clean and tidy; the barn (where check-in and breakfast are situated) was very well designed and smart. The young lady who checked us in was very pleasant and polite. Quite apologetic about the issues that we faced.
Review 13:Beautiful setting. The grounds are superb with all the sheep in the field opposite and we saw ducks and wild rabbits too. We stayed in one of the little individual barn chalets at the front and they are very quaint and rustic! Staff were very helpful. Only downside is there isn't a pub within walking distance and Tonge Barn do not have a bar to relax in during the evening - which is a shame. We drove to a pub 5 minutes up the road and had a lovely meal so it was still nice.
Review 14:Breakfast was only served between 8.30 and 9.30. The owners weren't particularly friendly, they weren't rude they just didn't really talk. The door to our garden view room was really difficult to lock and unlock and the tap in our bathroom only gave out hot water, no cold water at all No menu given out at breakfast so no idea what the options were.
Review 15:Beautiful location, very comfortable bed I would stay again.
Review 16:The price - expensive room rate especially as the room backed onto a railway line and the noise of the trains were disturbing. Stayed at better B&B for £15.00 cheaper
Review 17:The location
Review 18:Little bit dark in the room, perhaps more lighting would be good. If breakfast had been included, then the price would have been more justifiable.
Review 19:Very friendly staff. Large bedroom with desk and good wifi for working. Large TV and fridge in the room. Generally a very pretty building and communal space lovely.
Review 20:The room I had was one of three together. Bedroom ok but ventilation compromised as only window opened onto a corridor., bathroom far too small and difficult to use. Owner said they were going to address these problems. Other rooms look far better.
Review 21:pleasant building.lovely staff.great breakfast. easy parking
Review 22:Rooms were spartan with a lack of normal amenities found in a good hotel e.g. on arrival only a 60 watt bulb leaving the room in semi- darkness; no wardrobe although hangers were provided on request. Had to ask for a second bed-side lamp and hair drier.
Review 23:Buildings worthy of their grading with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfasts were very good with a good variety of choice.
Review 24:No proper window, just a skylight, which you couldn't cover fully, so the sky-light came in all right. The room was not one of the nice ones illustrated on the website. It was perfectly clean and so on, but there were one or two cracked tiles in the shower space, and the shower head looked due to be replaced.
Review 25:Pleasant garden by a pond, with countryside view beyond. The room was ok. Receptionist was fairly helpful.
Review 26:Heating not working, staff were very helpful and gave us a heater. Train noise; ok at the front but could be a problem.
Review 27:Room was a good size and had character.
Review 28:The breakfast @ £6.95 was disappointing. Only a cooked breakfast. Perhaps a continental breakfast should be an option as well? No yogurt, no muesli, no fruit, no croissants. Sliced bread. Quite a few of the light bulbs weren't working. Some plates, bowls and cutlery would have been helpful. We didn't need towels changed every day. Having the TV in the bedroom and not the 'front room' was strange.
Review 29:location. Quiet and beautiful. Clean and comfortable. We had asked for a quiet room and we were given one. The female member of staff on duty was so helpful and willing to please. As the Barn is a bit of a distance from shops and restaurants, the microwave and fridge were very necessary.Nice to have the extra 'room'
Review 30:would have liked to have seen a bedside cabinet each side of bed instead of two chairs
Review 31:very quiet location and very helpful staff.able to park right outside our door.
Review 32:Over the road there is a beautiful lake where you can feed the ducks. And carp .wonderful garden with its own brook.I though the whole experience of Tonge barn was excellent. .
Review 33:There was nothing not to like about this place.I think breakfast being served to early would probably the only thing xx
Review 34:Our room was so nice and homely we really enjoyed staying there
Review 35:Beautiful barn and surrounding countryside. Lovely gardens to sit in if weather permits. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it!
Review 36:Room was small with no window, apart from a skylight, and felt confined. Also adjacent main entrance from rear of property to dining area which was quite noisy at night although a quiet room was requested. Difficult to fill kettle due to having a very small quest sink and the kettle would not fit under. Electrical socket to right of bed loose, and only one bedside light.
Review 37:Great staff, warm welcome and happy to assist.
Review 38:Shower was warm, but never hot... Towels in room were tiny...
Review 39:Lovely big comfy bed and bucket decorated clean room. Lovely setting and great location for exploring the downs, Whitstable and surrounding area. Delicious full cooked breakfast.( only served till 9.30 tho) Pleasant staff
Review 40:Only comments would be that the room was dark and would really benefit from a couple of bedside lamps to lighten the room and enable reading! A few more pictures on the wall would brighten up the interior and make the room more homely. Option to have fruit/yoghurt instead of cereal would really enhance the breakfast.
Review 41:Very friendly welcome on arrival. Shown to room. Given a couple of local places to go for dinner. Enjoyable cooked breakfast of cereal, toast and a full English.
Review 42:The room I stayed in in Tonge Barn was in need of some repair and unfortunately smelt a little damp and this reduced the enjoyment of the stay.
Review 43:Tonge Barn staff were friendly and helpful. The place had a lovely setting and though close to the main railway line this was not a problem.
Review 44:Nothing was wrong with Tonge Barn. A shame more places aren't like this.
Review 45:This B&B was full of character with a warm inviting feel making it feel like a home from home experience. Highly recommended, you would not be disappointed. Beds are incredibly comfortable too.
Review 46:Me and my partner stayed in the family room for valentines was a lovely room very big tellys in both rooms bathroom was lovely location is perfect out the way and all look really pretty! Only downside there was cobwebs everywhere and me hating spiders put me a bit on edge lol also they didn't do dinner so had to travel back out to get food! Breakfast was round one big table with everyone else that is staying that night? Weren't to keen on that so even though we paid for breakfast we didn't have it and just went into the town and got it we did ring reception to see if we could have room service but they didn't do that which was annoying! But other then that we really enjoyed our stay staff were very friendly! :)
Review 47:The shower room and toilet are open to the room and only have a beaded curtain to separate them. Means that there is no privacy (you can be seen on the loo by anyone who comes into the room!) and the beaded curtain is really annoying as we kept getting caught on it. Breakfast is at one big table with all the other guests, not good if you don't feel like chatting to everyone else.
Review 48:Beautiful room, very high quality and really clean. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Mini fridge in the room was useful. In lovely grounds, we would stay there again.
Review 49:We had a room out the back from the main building. I got woke up by the noise of trains which was a bit of a nuisance, also the bed was a bit low down. Shame there was no bar for the evening.
Review 50:My favourite thing was the location. Going down the quiet country roads. The room was nice and there was a lot of lovely area's to sit and relax inside and out within the hotel area. Breakfast was very good and the two ladies (seemed to be the only staff) were very helpful. A good Indian restaurant called the mint leaf 5 mins away.
Review 51:had to leave
Review 52:every thing these people know how a hotel /guest house should be run I could not recommend them more highly food great (breakfast) room superb staff nice beyond belief take my word for ir I stay in dozens of hotels and this is top of list
Review 53:Microwave in room but no plates or cutlery so did not use. Really would be better with restaurant and bar as long way to find something outside and at night the local lanes are very narrow and dark and not the best of roads to be on.
Review 54:The two Polish girls were very helpful and friendly and cooked an excellent breakfast. The Barn is very well maintained and very pleasing to the eye and relaxing. They gave us cards for local restaurants and we visited The Plough - food very good though a bit expensive.
Review 55:Everything. I work all over the UK staying at numerous hotels, bed and B&Bs etc. This is by far the best I have stayed at. Everything brilliant. Best bed I have slept in. The staff are excellent. The breakfast are incredible. Overall superb
Review 56:Pleasant change from the usual budget hotels like Premier Inn and Holiday Express. Hotel had character and good staff. Would definetly stay again if in the area.
Review 57:Cannot understand why there was no door on the bathroom/shower area, only a bead curtain! Otherwise, a very relaxing, pleasant stay.
Review 58:Very Pleasant setting, very helpful staff, relaxing.
Review 59:could have done with a wardrobe in our room, instead of just a row of hooks. The shower was a little tempermental
Review 60:superb breakfast and lovely garden/grounds Friendly and helpful staff
Review 61:The bathroom and noisy boiler/extractor fan. Plus the shower makes the whole bathroom wet. Leaking tap. Small things that for the price should be fixed straight away.
Review 62:The location, the eating area, the breakfast. The staff.
Review 63:No where local to drink or eat bar in the hortel not opened when we got a member of staff they only sold beer or coke although sprits were on display tv in the lounge did not work not very welcoming
Review 64:The room was very nice
Review 65:Poor choice of bard drinks. No wine!
Review 66:The room was a cabin style suite with two rooms. Main bedroom with bathroom off had a King size bed, TV, fridge and wardrobe. The outer sitting room had a single bed, two arm chairs, sink, microwave and all the utensils. There was a larger fridge as well. The hotel main rooms were beautiful with wonderful sitting area's a bar and the open kitchen dining area! Fabulous staff and great surroundings.
Review 67:Remote location with no security. Unable to leave window open at night during hot weather. Towels not dried or changed just folded on towel rail.
Review 68:Very unusual place to stay. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order.
Review 69:From start to end my stay at Tonge Barn was exceptional. The room was outstanding !!! I stay in a lot of hotels for my job and this ranks in the top 5. Loved it and the Staff were amazingly helpful. Thank you
Review 70:This is only a personal thing but found the bed a tadge too low. The only other thing which isnt a bad thing, is they do not do evening meals.
Review 71:Every thing about the hotel was good, The air con was very welcoming and cooled the room very well. The food at breakfast was excellent, quite funny as the owner was asking about trying his sausages, thought he was going to sell them, but they were the best ive had in ages. For the best evening meal around try the Local George Inn.
Review 72:Very friendly welcome, Room lovely and clean, Comfortable bed and facilities, Breakfast was very good and again very lovely staff in the dining room.
Review 73:No quality restaurant or pub nearby, so drive or cab, bit of a shame but not the end of the world.
Review 74:Gorgeous room, 1st chalet type by front gate. Lovely and quiet, the odd train but not very noticeable. Nice cooked breakfast.
Review 75:Bathroom - simply awful. Toilet difficult to flush, rotting shower shelf, nasty plumbing and tiny basin..in a triple room... Bedside light didn't work. Had to ask for hairdryer.
Review 76:Bed was comfortable Air con was vital when you've got no outside windows Free wifi
Review 77:No wardrobe, small sink and the shelf right above it making access nigh impossible.
Review 78:The staff especially Sylvia who cooked the breakfast. The breakfast.
Review 79:This property has a lot of potential but is tired and needs brighter furnishings. Shower needs to be screened off from the rest of the Bathroom as the whole floor gets wet.
Review 80:Bed and bedding were very comfortable, shower was excellent. Best nights sleep I have had in ages.
