Reviews for Hotel Aurora
Review 1:None
Review 2:The inner courtyard layout and flowers/vegetation is stunning. Wonderful architecture and the beds are like sleeping on a cloud. Wifi is excellent and location is unbeatable. Quiet but only 2 minutes walk to the centre of town. Highly recommend.
Review 3:Some trouble with the hot water in the shower, either too cold or too hot, couldn't make the balance for the right temperature :/
Review 4:Very nice rooms with extremely comfortable beds! Exactly what we needed after a very long flight to Guatemala. The staff was all so very kind too.
Review 5:Breakfast included in the cost of room was rather limited
Review 6:Traditionally furnished, large rooms around a colourful garden in old colonial building only a short distance from Parque Central, and the main sights and restaurants of the town
Review 7:Breakfast is very basic. However, you can bring it to standard for additional money.
Review 8:Staff is very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere of the place is great.
Review 9:The a/c did not work but the staff was very responsive and brought in a fan.At night it really was not needed.
Review 10:The feeling of being in a hotel that has not changed in several hundred years
Review 11:The beds are not "hotel" beds, it's more like a normal Guatemalan house bed. There's no AC and the room got a little bit hot at times.
Review 12:We loved the location and the staff was great too. The fact that it has parking space is amazing for Antigua.
Review 13:It would be nice to have a little refrigerator in the room.
Review 14:It's a perfect hotel, very quiet since it has no restaurant on premises, the security gate is locked day and night. Some rooms have windows both to the street and to the courtyard, some rooms have windows only to the courtyard. The breakfast includes orange juice, coffee, bread, cereal, fruit and yogurt, it's possible to order eggs etc. for an extra price.
Review 15:Rooms can get a bit warm and stuffy in the summer months.
Review 16:Beautiful gardens, great staff, comfortable and spacious rooms make this a great place to stay.
Review 17:Friendly, helpful staff. Liked the heritage feel in this very Guatemalan hotel. Beautiful courtyard, well kept.. Close to everything, overall comfortable.
Review 18:Breakfast is only fruit, yogurt and toast. If you want eggs or something more you can pay extra.
Review 19:We loved being so central in Antigua. The room was very large with an equally large bathroom, which had an external tub! The staff was helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 20:Night time staff does not speak English and this was problematic when the early morning shuttle was over 45 minutes late. Also the gates at night are locked and unlike other hotels there is not someone at the night desk all the time in the evening/night. The first time we were out for a late dinner, we weren't sure we would get in ( it was about 11pm)...rang the buzzer for 10-15 minutes. We would have felt more secure and comfortable at a hotel catering to tourists with night person speaking English and also informing us about the night time locking of the gate, buzzer, etc.
Review 21:Rooms were pleasant, and spacious; although our first room which bordered the busy street was noisy but the daytime staff moved us the next day which we appreciated. Daytime Staff was very helpful with booking shuttle and calling airport. Courtyard is very lush and relaxing
Review 22:Of course, to be in the center of "down town" you pay a price in the area of noise, mostly from passing cars, motorcycles and tuk-tuks (motorbikes made into taxis.) Fortunately, with the exception of holidays (like the Valentines Day weekend I was there) the traffic dies down by 10 pm or so.
Review 23:Although this hotel is safe and comfortable, I'd give it highest marks for being positioned within Antigua in such a was as to allow you to explore the town in any direction without extreme effort. Only a few blocks from the town square, cathedrals, dozens of restaurants and all sorts of interesting sights, you really can't find a better location.
Review 24:We had to let the water run in the shower for nearly 10 minutes before it became hot enough to use. After that it was fine, but it was a massive waste of clean water until it warmed up.
Review 25:The room we were given, #22, was on a serenely private and lushly landscaped open-air courtyard. We even had a parrot named Lorenzo (Lorenzo the Loro ["parrot" in Spanish is "loro"]) on his perch right outside our door to entertain us. The room was lovely: one double bed and one single, with lots of room to spread out. A new flat-screen Samsung TV (which we didn't use) was in the corner of the room. Bathroom was modern, closet space was ample. Everything was immaculately clean. Location was within two blocks of the main square and convenient to everything by foot. I would definitely choose to stay there again. Room included a buffet-style continental breakfast.
Review 26:Poor value for money but then Antigua is ridiculously expensive. Room was cold in the evenings and night as there is no heating. I had to ask for hot water to be switched on in the morning.
Review 27:Excellent location and helpful staff.
Review 28:The stay ended up costing about 50+ more dollars than I thought because of the taxes (my fault, I should have read closer). Wifi was very spotty.
Review 29:Great location, can't really be beat. Staff is good and inner courtyard is beautiful. Big rooms and nice hot showers.
Review 30:The noise in the night (people talking in the chairs placed just near our door)
Review 31:The kindness of the team. The garden. Equipment of the room. Free parking for the car. The breakfast, with fresh fruits and good breds.
Review 32:Breakfast was basically juice, fruit, toast and coffee. Little information given on registering re breakfast, television, gate etc. perhaps young fellow at desk was new?
Review 33:Safe, clean Lovely hot shower Close to central plaza
Review 34:The staff was friendly and very easy to communicate with either in English or Spanish. Very clean hotel in general. The room is small but clean and the bathroom was average size with high ceiling. My car fits in one of the parking spaces which is located inside of the hotel. I forgot to put one of my windows up the night before but found everything there where I left them, including a Garmin GPS hooked to the dash board. Price is reasonable compare to the neighboring hotels. I stayed one night but will stay there again and will recommend hotel Aurora to all my friends and acquaintances. I really enjoyed my stay!
Review 35:The breakfast, although very good, could have had more options.
Review 36:The location is central to everything in Antigua. It is the most comfortable, secure lodging I have found & best value in my 10+ years traveling to Antigua.
Review 37:I stayed in this family owned hotel 34 years ago and now in 2014. Prime location, lovely staff, terrific value, and wonderful garden to take a siesta.
Review 38:The charm of the hotel is that it has not been over-refurbished. However, this means that rooms do not have modern sound-proofing. You can hear your neighbours speak from time-to-time. I was also unlucky in two respects. First, the hotel is popular with large groups of US tourists. They decided they would make Skype calls in the central courtyard every morning from 7am. Secondly, some refurbishment work started outside my room one morning before 8am. The rooms to the rear of the hotel are quieter, and open onto a smaller courtyard. If noise is likely to be an issue, then I would request those.
Review 39:This is a beautiful hotel with genuine colonial charm. It's not ultra-modern, but nor would you want it to be. It has a delightful central courtyard, surrounded by a tile walkway with wicker chairs and tables. You can while away the hours, enjoying the tranquility of this hotel. It has a very central location, and double rooms are big (although some have a third bed squeezed in them). Two of the best patisseries in Antigua are on the same street, and all of the crumbling churches, restaurants and cafes are within easy reach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in an authentic townhouse that retains its Spanish colonial charm.
Review 40:No air conditioning but only seldom wished for it over our two-week stay in August. Busy/noisy street on one side.
Review 41:Entry to the hotel was controlled. Close to good restaurants and central park. Breakfast options. Wake up calls. Very clean; well maintained. Lounge chairs in a very pretty courtyard. Closet, vanity, desk, side tables, spacious room, sofa/chairs outside room. Courteous staff. 10pm noise curfew.
Review 42:We arrived at Guatemala city at 6AM and caught a mini bus at the airport. We arrived in Antigual at 7:30 AM and had to wait 6 and a half hours to get into our hotel room. We were tired from lack of sleep on the night flight. The wait was too long and I wish we could have gotten into our room sooner.
Review 43:Hotel Aurora is a beautiful hotel with old world charm. We loved it. I was traveling with my 16 yr. old grandson and he felt safe and pleased with the accommodations. I did recommend the hotel to other travelers we met but warned them of the long wait time to get into the room.
Review 44:Rooms a bit small, but not that big a deal.
Review 45:Very nice property, beautiful setting with gardens. Updated bathroom was nice. Security (front gate access controlled by desk clerk). Very convenient for walking to central park and main street.
Review 46:Lovely place! Very relaxing had an amazing garden to sit in and a parrot!
Review 47:Go back
Review 48:Location, services, confortable and the Antiguas's touch.
Review 49:Excellent location, nice facilities, and friendly staff that went above and beyond. Will stay there again. So many amenities, free wifi, parking.
Review 50:No help with luggage.
Review 51:Beautiful hotel. Clean and vomfortable
Review 52:Nothing
Review 53:Everything was perfect, the staff is awesome and it's very close toto the center
Review 54:The degree of courtesy is outstanding. The hotel is centrally located, safe and immaculate.
Review 55:The location of the hotel and it's accommodation with a nice breakfast, tv, wifi, shower, bedding and the staff was not only cordial but helpful.
Review 56:Pillows could be softer
Review 57:Location, quiet, historic place
Review 58:Everything
Review 59:Beautiful setting, very clean and friendly staff
Review 60:Garden setting was beautiful and peaceful place to rest after exploring Antigua. Room was nice and spacious too. Staff was very nice as well.
Review 61:location; beautiful courtyard
Review 62:Breakast lacking
Review 63:The location and the colonial atmosphere
Review 64:Quiet, wonderful welcoming family and staff.
Review 65:location
Review 66:The continental breakfast lacking
Review 67:The staff was great-the gardens delightful - the location grand
Review 68:Quiet, great location, friendly professional staff
Review 69:It was all good
Review 70:There is nothing to criticise. Rooms were great and so were the staff. Good location and quiet at nightime
Review 71:Wi-Fi was a little quirky.
Review 72:Beautiful courtyard. Fairly quiet even though our room was on the street.
Review 73:It was perfect, fountain in the middle of the courtyard and a talking parrot in the second garden.
Review 74:Location (really close to centre of Antigua) Grand colonial courtyard Shower
Review 75:I love the experience to stay in this ancient hose of Antigua Guatemala, with all the comfort like in a recently built hotel
Review 76:The breakfast was too simple.
Review 77:Excellent location, close to every where. Friendly stuff.
Review 78:they tried to charge me for a double room when I requested a single, how do I change that the next time???
Review 79:everything
Review 80:Great value compared to other hotels in the area Beautiful bathroom with hot shower Nice garden
Review 81:No restaurant except for breakfast. No bar so unable to buy any snacks or drinks
Review 82:Lovely gardens, prime location
Review 83:You need to pay extra for eggs in breakfast.
Review 84:Love the location, the room and the beautiful garden. The hotel offers umbrellas when it rains.
Review 85:Good location Lovely courtyard garden Good breakfast
Review 86:Location is perfect, size of the rooms and of course the staff.
Review 87:This is a lovely hotel with a flower-filled courtyard surrounded by chairs and sofas, all very inviting. The rooms are nice and breakfast was good.
Review 88:The garden, the clean large rooms, great showers.
Review 89:Location, garden, old-worldly charm
Review 90:No airconditioning! Must avoid a room at the front -noisy. Breakfast minimal and no restaurant ( lots of local alternatives).
Review 91:Reasonable price and great location. Nice central courtyard.
Review 92:Parking available was very secure and staff was excellent. The hotel itself was beautifully decorated. It was nice to know that it was one of the first hotels in Antigua. I loved the patios !
Review 93:Wi-Fi was very poor in room and weak outside in the garden.
Review 94:Truly, everything was exceptional but the Wi-Fi. The staff was friendly, helpful and always available to aid in whatever we needed.
Review 95:I would have liked option to have coffee throughout the day and a little more items for breakfast.
Review 96:Location. Grounds. Room comfort. Wi-Fi & TV. Breakfast included. Friendliness of the staff.
Review 97:The sink was outside the toilet and the toilet was a little small. No table and sitting chairs in the room. Window opens out to the street and sometimes when a heavy vehicle drives past, the whole room seems to shake.
Review 98:This hotel has one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. There are many places to lounge around the hotel. Bed was huge and so comfortable, I had the best sleep here. The hotel is very old and has been updated without losing any of its character. Staff were really nice and helpful. Breakfast lacked variety but you could eat as much as you wanted. Location was right on the main road to the center of town with many shops and restaurants close by. We requested for a fan which they brought.
Review 99:Nothing - very pleased with this hotel
Review 100:Small size - lots of charm. Oldest hotel in Antigua but comfortably updated w/o spoiling it's character. Central location but relatively quiet.
Review 101:While it's a good location, in terms of it's proximity within Antigua, our room was located on the street side of the building, so the noise and vibration caused by the early morning vehicle traffic on the cobbled roads woke us up.
Review 102:The courtyard was beautiful! The staff was friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious!
Review 103:1 - We couldn't operate the TV 2 - We couldn't operate the hair air-blower. 3 - Onr of the reading lamps didn't operate 4 - The breakfast was poor/
Review 104:The proximity to the center of Antigua
Review 105:Rooms on the front of the hotel face a very busy street. When the windows in the room are open, this allows a LOT of noise at all hours of the day and night. (However, when the windows are closed they do block out most of the street noise).
Review 106:Location just two blocks from central plaza; rooms surround a gorgeous, outdoor garden which was a wonderful place to sit and relax before dinner. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Review 107:Great location only two blocks from the central square. Even though it is in a busy area, when sitting in their lovely garden courtyard you feel another world away - so peaceful and lovely.
Review 108:Hotel Aurora is a gem in Antigua! With beautiful gardens and clean, comfortable rooms, I felt like I was coming back to an oasis after a day of exploring the historic town. Its location can't be beat either - near the Chocolate Museum, on a street with some of the most beautiful stores in Antigua, including the Casa del Jade, and a short walk to Parque Central. The staff is excellent. They even went above and beyond - going to the pharmacy and store for me when I fell ill. A must-stay in Antigua!
Review 109:We could hear trucks driving on the street all night, but some of that noise comes with being in the middle of the city. The man on staff at night was not friendly or helpful.
Review 110:Location was great. Room was very nice...the bathroom in particular exceeded my expectations. Courtyards were beautiful. Though the breakfast was free, I thought it was very unimpressive. I wish they would add large bottles of purified water around the property. We had this at another 3 star hotel in Antigua, and really appreciated it. Overall, great value for the price.
Review 111:Breakfast was good, although not a huge variety based upon American standards. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We liked the open courtyard and enjoyed sitting and relaxing outside. Location was very handy.
Review 112:The noise from the street can easily be heard from the room. If you're a light sleeper, consider earplugs! This was the same as the other hotels we stayed at in Guatemala.
Review 113:We stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Aurora. The room had a high ceiling and a great bathroom. The courtyard had gorgeous roses in it. The staff was extremely helpful. There were many good restaurants within a block or two of the hotel.
Review 114:The bed was extremely small for two people. It was a "full", not even a "queen".
Review 115:The location is fantastic, however, some rooms can be noisy with street noise.
Review 116:Nothing.
Review 117:The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast was terrific. The staff was always charming and available for questions. They made being alone in a foreign country so much more palatable. The location was perfect. The garden was exquisite with many gorgeous roses blooming while I was there. The staff was so accomodating.
Review 118:Beautiful surroundings in a great location. The facilities were very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful in booking our excursions. We liked Hotel Aurora so much that we plan to return again
Review 119:no Restaurant at the hotel but it wasn't that much of a problem since is really close to everything, has a restaurant right next door
Review 120:great customer service
Review 121:More information about services/options ie we had a 6am pick-up for pacaya tour but we didn't realise we had to per-book our packed breakfast/lunch before 3pm the previous day. Perhaps it would have been helpful to have an info book in each room with he basics in it...
Review 122:Lovely bathroom Central outdoor garden beautiful
