Reviews for White Vine House

Review 1:The building is very old, quirky and quite lovely. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Tapas in the evening was delicious, as was the breakfast. Our room was quite spacious and comfortable.

Review 2:We were impressed with the freshly cooked hot breakfast served in a lovely wood panelled lounge. The wine bar was relaxing with ample seating for the weekends adult guests and external customers. All staff were friendly and welcoming.

Review 3:Pretty much everything. The staff were very warm and welcoming and went out of their way for us. They were a lesson to any establishment re how to do excellent customer service. The room/studio, was fantastic with a big bathroom, and overlooked the narrow high street. You had a feeling of being back in time a couple of centuries. The breakfasts were also lovely.

Review 4:Room was cold when we arrived but soon warmed up.

Review 5:Great location, staff and owner very friendly. Quirky and comfortable room, it felt like a special place. Excellent breakfast, we would come back. Would appeal to someone looking for something a little different, it feels like a home rather than a top end hotel.

Review 6:Friendly staff, very accomodating. Arrived way too early as we stayed elsewhere but the owner Javed was very friendly and fortunately our room was available so he allowed an early check-in. Parking is a short walk away and free so always a bonus.

Review 7:the windows rattle in the wind, bathroom a bit small but ok if you go in one at a time. The dustbin men go round the street very early so not good if you are a light sleeper.

Review 8:All the staff were more than helpful, good breakfast.Comfortable bed, well equipped room.

Review 9:Parking is a bit of a problem but the staff have wonderful ways around the problem, so it is not a big problem

Review 10:The central location in Rye; the friendly, helpful staff; the enormous bed in room 4; the wonderful history of the place; Tony the chef's breakfasts and tapas

Review 11:My sister and I took my elderly mother there for her 90 th b day treat,, we could not have been looked after better, Megan you are a very kind, caring and considerate young lady, thank you

Review 12:A friendly welcome from the staff in a cosy but chic hotel. nothing was too much trouble, even phoning local pubs and restaurants to get a booking for us.

Review 13:Not cleaned !sash windows broken dangerous if you had a child !Electric extension leads used for appliances! Bathroom door would not shut ! Parking a nightmare! Bed was terrible back still suffering ! Noise was all night.

Review 14:Nothing about hotel

Review 15:Could have had a telephone in room even if just for internal calls, if this is possible in a grade listed building

Review 16:The room was spacious.A beautifully preserved building with original features, centrally situated

Review 17:Small point but very bright chairs in lounges jarred with me

Review 18:Boutique style interior retaining marvellous character of the building. Old French panelling in dining room a highlight. Spacious standard room nicely furnished with leather sofa white walls and elegant tables. Breakfast made to order. Partner restaurant Ambrette was outstanding for evening meal.

Review 19:It seems that Brits have a different understanding of hotel products and the rating is not equal to the rest of the world . We have seen this trough out our recent 3 weeks of the UK countryside In the rest of the world rating system the hotel may ,@ its best, qualify for a 2 star B&B Our room ( the best in the house) was dirty , not clean, a bathroom without a shower or you have to sit in the bath tube,a lot pf street noise during the night the breakfast wa average etc. I would not recommend this B&B to anyone from Europe. It is overpriced for what it is and what you see on booking.com is not what you get

Review 20:Parking is a disaster. No parking at the hotel, we were directed to aprivate residence 10 minutes away but given the wrong address. (Newstaff and apologies given). The alternative is public car park 5minutes away,

Review 21:The staff were lovely. We were upgraded to a superior bedroom with fourposter. Lovely big bath, beautiful drapes and linen and towels. Thetoiletries were poor as trying to recycle, the containers were notclean and fresh. Soap had been used, Entrance shabby, although I dothink they are changing things round and perhaps going to do food.Breakfast was lovely.

Review 22:Car parking a bit far unless you can get a space in the Highstreet.

Review 23:Excellent location, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast could not have been better, huge room and bed definitely recommend this Hotel.

Review 24:The location is great. The owner is very accommodating. The history of the home is very interesting. Rooms are good size. Evenings they serve beverages and tapas in their lounges. It's a really great town.

Review 25:The relaxed, friendly atmosphere, the interesting conversations with the owner and his wife and staff, the history of the building and its careful restoration, the delicious breakfasts and the quiet, comfortable bedroom.

Review 26:Very high price for the unfinished feeling and details like half dead plant in the bathroom should be dealt with at that price.

Review 27:Loved breakfast and room and very central location but needs more attention to detail for the high price. Staff lovely but feels in the middle of refurb and unfinished .

Review 28:Great atmosphere, personal service, wonderfully comfortable bed. Javed, the boss, was charming, informative, helpful and delightful. Extraordinary, old, characterful building which Javed is doing up and making the most of.

Review 29:We were on the front side of the house so was a bit noisy on a Saturday night

Review 30:Really quirky characterful place in the heart of Rye town centre that doubles as a antiques shop and wine bar at night. V friendly and helpful owners and staff. Wonderful breakfast!

Review 31:Nothing, no negatives at all.

Review 32:Lovely old historical building. Very comfortable room. Genuine warm friendly welcome. Lovely breakfast. Central location.

Review 33:Cobwebs in room, not child friendly, hot and stuffy attic room, loud noise from street late at night (hotel that does big weddings almost opposite), breakfast at very fixed times, no seating area available other than room.

Review 34:Weird Receptiom used as Antique shop Very quirky Not our taste. Dining room dark and bench seat was dusty Thank goodness for biological washing powders.

Review 35:Large Room Comfy Bed Good shower

Review 36:I realise I like more impersonal places being greeted with lots of cheery banter first thing is not for me. It will be for some. For the price I thought the rooms would be more in keeping with the period of the property.

Review 37:Clean and comfortable, right in the town

Review 38:Hot room, could have had a fan in the cupboard. Pillows a bit lumpy.

Review 39:Excellent staff, breakfast and large room. Well supplied tea and coffee making facilities in room. Right on the heart of town. Combines a hotel, antique shop and wine bar successfully.

Review 40:The staff are all incredibly friendly. They even made sure to ask if we had dinner reservations as they thought places would get booked up on the weekend we were there.

Review 41:The room (in the eaves) was hot & a bit tired-looking and at £190 (4-person family room) was not such good value for money.

Review 42:The owner gave us his parking place & couldn't have been more helpful, including an excellent tip for dinner. The situation & environment are attractive & breakfast was good.

Review 43:Booking.com site stated that parking could be arranged. Several emails to the proprietor before our visit received no reply On arrival we found out that not parking is available. Wifi did not work in the room. Unable to pay in pounds.

Review 44:Location. Friendly but unhelpful staff.

Review 45:None really, but you need to look at the photo to find it as the name is covered up by the ivy.

Review 46:Quiet, excellent breakfast, large room with interesting features and comfortable bed. Its a combination antique shop wine bar and guest house and the building has lots of historic features.

Review 47:Room was clean, tidy and reasonably well presented. Bathroom smallish but adequate. Good shower. Great tea coffee and nibbles selection which is gratis

Review 48:Didn't live up to the 5 star rating. Although the bathroom was large, the sleeping area was small and given the low ceilings (too low for anyone more than 6 feet) the accommodation did not merit the 5 star rating. A 3 or 4 star rating would be more appropriate.

Review 49:Breakfast, location and bathroom were great.

Review 50:Only very slight downside was the lack of a shower but there was a shower attachment to the bath.

Review 51:The bed was very comfortable and the size of the room and bathroom were wonderful. All in all a brilliant place to stay.

Review 52:You have to enjoy the wine bar if you want to relax downstairs in the evening.

Review 53:A room with space. Our host. The unusual arrangements (no dinner, instead the rooms are let to a wine bar operator!).

Review 54:No bad experiences at all. The only downside was that the bar facilities were lacking and only offering one type of beer or wine but no spirits.

Review 55:Proprietors and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. The best breakfast in town!

Review 56:We booked based on in house restaurant - this is not the case. Misrepresentation, lack of service and communication. We were advised lots of places to eat however not advised that none service food between 4/5-6pm!

Review 57:The room was comfortable with great big bed. Staff accommodating once got hold of them. Nice breakfast.

Review 58:We chose this accommodation based on their web site - unfortunately this was out of date! There is no on-site restaurant and we were not offered free parking. To top it all we were advised to use a specific public car park only to find our car blocked in by Rye market stall holders.

Review 59:Excellent location to explore this interesting and pretty town.

Review 60:The history of the building is fantastic, with the décor fitting in really well and making it a real pleasure to stay. Breakfast was outstanding with some really good choices if you didn't want the usual full English, although that was good! we would definitely go back!

Review 61:Thought parking might be a problem, but we were always able to park nearby on the High Street - and anyway there is cheap parking (£1-50 for 24 hours) about 3 mins away at the station.

Review 62:Fabulous large room (no. 3) with a four-poster bed, comfy sofa, and a huge bathroom with a TV. Very convenient in the heart of Rye, lots of restaurants and tea rooms nearby.

Review 63:The description in our confirmation email not of our room, so expecting a room we never had, thanks to Booking.com

Review 64:The staff were very helpful especially the owner who compensated us because of a big error Booking.com made

Review 65:There is nothing we did not like about our stay here

Review 66:Great hospitality from owners. Situated in the high street so excellent location to explore Rye. Lovely breakfast and comfortable room, If you have never been to this part of the country before Rye is a must. We visit Rye at least twice a year and would be happy to stay at White Vine House again.

Review 67:In the center of Rye. A good selection of in room refreshments with extra nibbles. A very comfortable big room. Slept well in the larg bed and lovely big soft towels. Free private parking is available about 5 minutes walk away.

Review 68:The set up of the room we were in was a bit bizarre but that's what you get with an old building like this I suppose!

Review 69:Only stayed for one night but everything was lovely. A nice range of nibbles/tea/coffee, and an excellent breakfast.

Review 70:Lovely property with character....the Boss really takes pride in his hotel and it shows. The restaurant provided a really great evening Indian style meal that was different, modern and well presented. The full English breakfast was a lovely way to start the day.

Review 71:Bathroom was very small and bath difficult to get into - room 2. No bar / lounge area which for £280 for two nights I would have expected. Car park ten minutes away was a bit inconvenient

Review 72:Very helpful owner Comfortable bed Great location Good breakfast

Review 73:Not the proprietor's fault but parking a bit of an issue though we easily found the £1.50 a day just 5 minutes walk. The shower was a little small but quite acceptable and we couldn't find a DVD to suit out tastes ( but good to have the option). THESE WERE VERY MINOR POINTS HOWEVER!

Review 74:Right form the arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the personal approach of the proprietor. Personally shown to a very nice room which smelt fresh and clean and had a really good view for a town centre property. Sleep was solid and the breakfast was one of the nicest we've had in countless hotels with an efficient and decidedly non-unctuous waiting. We are keen to return and will definitely try out the restaurant next time. Courtesy tray in room was very welcoming - ample & unexpected provisions.

Review 75:Stayed over a weekend and as room was at front of the house it was very noisy, but I am a very light sleeper! My husband was not disturbed by the noise.

Review 76:Proprietor and staff very accommodating and friendly.

Review 77:There is very little not to like.

Review 78:We were met on arrival by a friendly staff member who showed us to our room and explained the arrangements for dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious and there were thoughtful provisions for tea and coffee. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom, though small (remember the physical and heritage limitations of a building of its age) was clean and fully functional. The breakfast was among the better breakfasts available, and the hosts were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a highlight. We would stay there again if we got the chance.

Review 79:The folder in the room about the facilities etc hasn't been updated for a very long time and the pages are very worn. The plastic boxing covering the wires in the bathroom could have been finished better, it finished half way along with a raw edge, it just didn't look nice or inkeeping.

Review 80:The friendly staff, the eggs florentine, the birthday card and bottle of prosecco! A real treat.

Review 81:Traffic/road cleaning noise outside from very early in the morning. Very small bathroom - with bath/shower that was very difficult to get in and out of

Review 82:Excellent room and breakfast

Review 83:Slightly difficult car parking -- not the fault of the hotel, but the public car parks are a bit of a walk away which is difficult with luggage (parking on the High Street is very limited).

Review 84:Very friendly and helpful staff and the location in the centre of Rye was perfect.

Review 85:Noisy in the a.m. This is what you would expect on a high street. One of those c'est la vie things - an observation rather than a criticism.

Review 86:The owners were very hospitable. The room was spacious. Rather warm! But who expects hot weather in the UK? Lovely breakfast.

Review 87:No bath mat - instead a funny wooden thing which wasn't really effective in a small shower room.

Review 88:Linens on the bed View Breakfast - eggs Benedict to die for Ambrette restaurant Location couldn't be better

Review 89:Our room being over the restaurant.

Review 90:Ostensibly a lovely room . Our host very kindly helped us find an alternative by the sea when it proved to be unsuitable. Thank you for that.

Review 91:Short and early breakfast time (but it's possible to request a later breakfast if you want)

Review 92:Extremely friend hosts went out if their way to make my stay comfortable. Excellent hospitality!!! Great location in centre of rye, big, quiet, comfortable rooms.

Review 93:The staff strived to make our visit enjoying. And, the hotel seems to focus on detail, unlike some British establishments. The building us older and doesn't have air conditioning, like many British hotels. But, the fans help cool things once late afternoon came. Breakfast was good as well, and the smaller size of the hotel made it more quiet and pleasant.

Review 94:Nowhere to park for free. And when paying car was a long way away. Bath wasn't working properly when we arrived, took until the following afternoon until it was fixed. Excrement in the toilet when arrived. Extension leads everywhere. Not five star and not value for money!!! We left feeling ripped off!

Review 95:Four poster bed was nice. Breakfast was faultless. Javed the owner was very pleasant. Location was very central. The restaurant below was amazing!

Review 96:The rooms could have been a little more clean.

Review 97:Staff was very nice and service mindef. The breakfast was fantastic! Very charming rooms with old beams in the roof.

Review 98:We were greeted by the owner who ran us through the ropes for the place. He could not have been more helpful or polite. The building is stunning and retains many original features. The room (2) was very large and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom, although small, worked well. I will be staying there again when I go back to Rye.

Review 99:Staff were excellent, ax was the room and breakfast.

Review 100:The ambience and friendliness of the staff

Review 101:Megan - who seemed to be everything - was delightful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 102:Really friendly, helpful, genuine owner and staff. Excellent breakfast menu.

Review 103:Great Staff Great place

Review 104:Great location. Very good breakfast and welcoming staff / owners.

Review 105:We booked as a wedding gift for friends. The staff were so helpful in making sure everything was perfect.

Review 106:The staff were really nice. The breakfast was really tasty. Location was ideal.

Review 107:An historic building in the centre of Rye, with a wonderful welcome and excellent facilities.

Review 108:A wonderful old house with many fascinating details

Review 109:No restaurant, towels were not changed, outside space was unkempt, the dust was so thick, not value for the money

Review 110:Location and comfortable bed.

Review 111:Friendly staff and a lovely building.

Review 112:Bed was so comfortable Very spacious room. Breakfast excellent

Review 113:We were troubled by the noise of gulls from 3.00am.

Review 114:The central location and the helpfulness of staff was very good

Review 115:The family room was cleverly arranged. The ancient story of the building added to enjoyment. The staff were very helpful.

Review 116:Super friendly and helpful staff, made us feel at home. Great location. Lovely building. Highly recommended.
