Reviews for Grand Hotel La Tonnara

Review 1:Price of mine bar in room

Review 2:Best hotel in our 2weeks traveling around Italy photos on booking com don't do it justice it's a MUST stay hotel would recommend to anyone stayed in hotels that were twice the price for2nights but no were near. as good we went as far as to leave room cleaners a small tip thanks we will be back

Review 3:There wasn't a price list for the mini bar, so it was a surprise at the check out, that the things cost quite much.

Review 4:The breakfast was very good. The room was big! And there was a rain shower and a private beach.

Review 5:The staff are amazing, they have entertainment for all ages. The beach is right there!! The rooms are nice! Couldn't have asked for anything better. The fact that they had activities for the kids too made it even better!

Review 6:Few things we didn't liked: - only few members of the stuff was speaking English - there was wedding during one day and it was really loud. We couldn't sleep with opened windows - we needed to pay extra for baby cot - the wi-fi was not good quality. My mobile connection was working faster then hotel wi-fi, The speed was up to max 1Mbs - could be better breakfast. The bread on the breakfast was not very fresh...

Review 7:The hotel was really nice with very well done swimming pool, free parking and good restaurant. Hotel has been located close to the beach. It is enough to cross the road and you are there. There is no much traffic on the road. The closes city Amanetea is not so tourist city but it is very nice. Worth to see beautiful market on the city. In the city itself there is few markets (for example Lidl) and the prices are very good. The prices in the hotel restaurant are good as well.

Review 8:The Hotel is more of a 5 star than of a 4 star . Rooms very spacious , clean and exquisitely decorated . Breakfast is grand , ample space to park staff very friendly

Review 9:Only small lack: poor english staff, no near POI, siesta sucks, you have to connect to WiFi every hour, same breakfast every morning but normal

Review 10:Well equipped, comfortable, clean, good price (we got 40% off)

Review 11:The beds were hard but apart from that it's a great place to have a holiday.

Review 12:The staff were helpful and professional. The hotel was clean, well appointed and had a lovely swimming pool. The local town of Amentea had everything we needed for a short break with good fish, seafood and pizza restaurants.

Review 13:Breakfast is a buffet and served from 7.30am to 11.30 am, suggest if you would like a better choice to go early as food is not replaced during the morning, however there is still a reasonable amount st the late sittings.

Review 14:Everything, staff were very, very friendly, facilities were outstanding, cleanest pool I have ever been in hot showers in the change area adjacent to the pool and the food was delicious, will be looking forward to staying again when we visit Italy! Well done, a great place to stay relax and unwind.

Review 15:If out of season you need a car as its miles from the nearest place to eat other than the hotel. Very poor wifi from the room and very slow if you want to sit in the reception and log on

Review 16:upgraded for nothing as they were empty great staff beautiful beach and the sea was warm(mid Oct) Beautiful hotel

Review 17:The only thing that I was unhappy with was the pillows, hardly used and not comfortable.

Review 18:The hotel is about 2 miles from Amantea, so it's better if you've got a car, or if you just stay at the hotel and eat there. We could use bicycles from the hotel which was free of charge and they even gave us a child seat for my daughter, so we could travel to Amantea. Staff are very friendly and polite and try to help you as much as possible. We travelled from Lamezia Terme Airport on the train and thought the hotel was not far but when we realised that it was a bit of a distance we phoned the hotel and they sent us a taxi (€10). The rooms are spacious and very clean. We had a triple room with a balcony and a sea view. The bathroom was large with a big shower head and massage. The towels are changed every day. If you decide to eat at the restaurant it costs €20 per person but it's delicious! There are two swimming pools, one shallow pool for kids. The beach is just across the road with sun-beds provided from the hotel. Breakfast is basic but nice. I loved the food there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you to all of the staff.

Review 19:Staff waiting to put away the sun beds at 5 pm even when it was still day light. But then I suppose they had worked all day. Breakfast from 7:30-11am but make sure you arrive early as very little chose left. Having said this I did ask the waitress for items which she did go to the kitchen to see if they were available.

Review 20:If you want a relaxing time then this is the place to be. Sun beds and umbrella provided in the price. Very clean and comfortable. Outdoor pool and a pool jacuzzi. Lots of out door seating. First time in using a spa shower-wonderful experience. Free bike hire. The hotel next door did amazing food, so we mostly dined there. You need a car if you want to go anywhere as the town is too far to walk

Review 21:no outdoor eating area, dining room restaurant too formal, we felt like we were at a wedding reception

Review 22:very clean, comfortable rooms, right on a beautiful beach. staff very friendly. great value for the cost

Review 23:Nothing at all.

Review 24:Wonderful location on the beach. Easy access from lamezia and auto strata Spacious room with comfortable bed Beautiful pool. Exception room for a very reasonable price

Review 25:beautiful beach directly in front of hotel; nice chairs and umbrellas on beach. Good restaurant. Out of town of Ammantea so very quiet area, easy drice to town or to Lamezia airport

Review 26:From the location to the great food the Tonnara made the end of vacation in Italy a very memorable one. The tables were alway set with fresh linens. Breakfast which was included was fabulous. Dinner was great also. A great place to relax foe family's and couples.

Review 27:no restaurant around (within reachable distance by feet), worse reception staff, no bar and small food service

Review 28:distance to the sea, nice views from the balcony

Review 29:We only stayed one night and arrived too late to enjoy the beach on our arrival day. We wanted to use the beach with our 3 young kids the day of our departure instead, but there was drama on the beach from the lifeguard who wanted to give our beach seats to the people checking into our room...at 10AM. We stayed because the hotel staff inside said we could stay until 2pm, but he was not happy with us and it was very rude. We also didn't get to use the "free wifi" which apparently is only provided the day of arrival. Not to mention, at 12:30pm when we were hungry, the panini case and ice cream cases were empty and we were told they had no more. I would not stay at this run down 80's hotel for this price and with these stupid policies!

Review 30:The location of the beach across the street was ideal, the playground for the kids was great.

Review 31:pool attendant is a peculiar little man who will not allow ANYONE in the pool without a plastic bathing cap! So the pool pretty much stays empty all day !

Review 32:just about everything

Review 33:WiFi in the apartment building was ok for one day, the other two days I stayed there it didn't work. Luckily, they had a PC in the hotel lobby which did have WiFi that I could use for info search.

Review 34:Close to the beach. Balcony with furniture. Lots of space. I had an apartment on the top floor with a view to the sea side... nice!

Review 35:The apartment was very well stocked for cooking. The simplicity of the property was very appealing: beach or pool or balcony from the apartment. Simple. Nearby town for groceries so it was super easy.

Review 36:I did not like the restaurant. The food was good but the service (in general) was not good. I guess they did not expected us to order from the menu (instead of eating the daily menu). So, if you go you can have a better deal for your money if you eat in the hotel next door or otherwise in downtown Amantea.

Review 37:I booked an apartment by mistake. Since I did not like it, they promptly changed me to a room. The hotel is at the beach, the staff is great and the beach staff is even better. Breakfast was great with fresh fruits, pastries, prosciutto and cheeses. The room had a large balcony from where we saw the ocean an a couple of unforgettable sunsets.

Review 38:The location...It is not possible to get on foot to the city, we knew about it before. It was not easy to rent a car, a pity the hotel doesn't have its own car rental. Your stay can be a bit dull if you have to be in the hotel only. The pool opening hours are less convenient too: 9.30-12.00, 16.00-18.00

Review 39:the staff is trying really hard for every single guest, I must honestly say. Especially the Animation Team who played with kids from early morning on the beach till late evening hours in the hotel. Every day the program of the animation was different and really amusing for the kids. The hotel is extremely clean! The cleaners are there everywhere making sure is nice and scenting. The decorations inside and the sofas outside the hotel make the place very elegant and cosy. The beach is excellent but the sea quite rough, there are the lifeguards both on the beach and at the pool. The food in the restaurant is delicious, lots of sea food, good wine and low prices!

Review 40:Amazing! The room, staff, pool, the beach.....everything was just amazing. We didn't rent a car to drive into Amantea, so it was like staying in a resort. Restaurant had great food. Overall, outstanding! Especially the staff! Grazie!

Review 41:The music at the beach was way too loud. To speak to my husband I had to yell. Very hard to relax in a beautiful setting. We were not allowed to pick where we wanted to sit on the beach, all prearranged. \our lounge chairs were right infront of music speakers.

Review 42:The rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was large and new. The staff was very friendly and tried to help you anyway they could. The food in the hotel dining room was excellent along with the waiters.

Review 43:Not much choice for lunch or dinner menu. Had to check off either or items. Quite a distance from anything in the town

Review 44:Great staff. Attentive. Clean rooms. Food was superb. Excellent quality. See below for the but.

Review 45:If you are without a car, you could feel a bit out of the world. The hotel gives you bikes anyway if you want to go around. This hotel receives many weddings and this could be boring for the hotel customers.

Review 46:The hotel has a wonderful situation close to the beach that you can reach easily from the hotel. We took a room with the see view. When you are on the balcony, it's like heaven. The beach and the see is wonderful. The lunches and dinners at the restaurant are of a high quality at a reasonable price. If you like fish like we do, you'll enjoy the place. All the people working here are doing everything for you wellfare and that is what you are looking for when you are travelling with a 1 year baby.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Superb hotel our second stay. Excellent location right opposite the beach. Beautiful inside, top service. I can't fault it.

Review 49:Architecture, pool, dinner

Review 50:Everything

Review 51:Great hotel! Good breakfast and free facilities on the beach.

Review 52:Balcony,sea view,comfort,helpful staff

Review 53:Parking was hard to find as there was functions every day

Review 54:The facilities were very clean, breakfast was good.

Review 55:location,cleanliness,breakfast,staff, clean beach and excellent restaurant.

Review 56:Just another hotel along the beach strip.

Review 57:Just a basic room in basic hotel with a beach view.

Review 58:Lousy wifi and public transportation.

Review 59:Inexpensive, beautiful beaches, few people, clean, and great staff, secluded location.

Review 60:Location is a little on the side

Review 61:Staff and decor

Review 62:Great place to rest in a very quiet place. Very convenient rooms and parking place. We'll be back. The personel was very helpful - I caught a cold and there was no problem with prolongation.

Review 63:Little or no English spoken or understood.

Review 64:Lovely hotel, but pool area was being renovated with dozens of workers around, therefore not possible to use. Nice dinner in restaurant, but nothing else around, so for an alternative a drive into the town would be necessary.

Review 65:The fact we were only able to stay for three nights.

Review 66:We have done much traveling in Europe over the past few years and this Hotel must rank as Number one from all points of view. I'm fairly sure we received an upgrade but even so we highly recommend this Hotel. Top marks to the management and staff.

Review 67:The service was superior. The staff was friendly, helpful and they went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. Great view of the sea. Excellent menu. Shuttle service to airport. Best value and close to lovely Amantea.

Review 68:Unprofessional staff. Very poor breakfast, only sweets and no bread, eggs, fresh juice. Buildingwork close to breakfastroom. Poor reception area and bar, bicycles parked next to garden seats. Wifi not working, no explanation, no excuses.

Review 69:Cheap offer for a room. Seaview after upgrade. Spacious bathroom.

Review 70:Building work going on at the back of the hotel, noisey from 08.00 am till early evening.

Review 71:Beautifully refurbished, modern and spotlessly clean. Right opposite beach.

Review 72:Excelent value! Very clean comfortable modern rooms. Polite helpful staff. Excelent dining experience. Wonderful breakfast. Beautiful beach. Strong WIFI in room. Loved the nearly secluded feel in early spring!

Review 73:Off season - felt very much alone. Not hotel fault buy economy, winter, etc. BUT glad they stay open.

Review 74:Reception=Owner helpful(english) Lovely modern hotel. Larger than it looks. Wedding size dining room. Off season Feb 2014 We may have been only guest. Fine dinner at fair price. Would return for sure. Top 2 of 12 hotels we stayed at. You will not be disappointed

Review 75:Breakfast should be improved: too many sweet things.

Review 76:As usual, La Tonnara is a home of tranquility, a pleasure along the sea, a sophisticated hotel, and a nice place where to rejuvenate.

Review 77:Wanted a seafront overnight, and got one. Really inexpensive in the winter, when you can just walk the beach with nobody else around. Good breakfast buffet with meats and cheeses.

Review 78:Nothing at all a very pleasant stay.

Review 79:We were upgraded to room with balcony facing the sea and had a extra sink, a great view and had all comforts and amenities, very nice breakfast the following morning.

Review 80:The double bed was so so hard

Review 81:Everything, the staff were amazing and I can honestly say out of all the hotels we stayed in from the south if Italy this one was our favourite. My family have said that next time we travel they definitely want to go back

Review 82:On the night of my stay, a wedding party took over the very smart but reasonably priced Hotel La Tonnara at Amantea, overlooking a small beach. By midnight they were very well oiled & several went in into the sea, some skinny dipping & some still wearing evening clothes! Lots of noise & even rocks thrown at the hotel; luckily no windows broken, but early sleep was precluded for all hotel guests, wedding invitees or not!

Review 83:Friendly helpful English speaking staff, hotel clean & comfortable, but a steel grille over the bedroom window meant I could not open it, nor make use of the balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast options included anything one could think of, a real feast!

Review 84:The hotel is exactly what was described. It is a place to relax and unwind. The hotel is definitely 4* The breakfast was wonderful. The staff very attentive and helpful. Just a walk across the road to the beach with all that is needed to relax. Would recommend this hotel as one of the best we have ever stayed in

Review 85:Wow! Fantastic value. Friendly service. Great really great rooms withsea views. Clean swimming pool at the back. Beach in front. 2 km from alovely hilltop village without question the best value and mistenjoyable hotel we have found.

Review 86:1) The sea was an open sewer - the worst I have ever seen. 2) Bed was very hard - couldn't sleep on it. 3) No hot breakfast - this is understandable because most guests there are Italian. 4) No umbrellas around the pool. Too hot to stay there for long.

Review 87:Lovely hotel - we had a suite which was perfect for relaxing.

Review 88:Unfortunately in Southern Italy the railway runs parallel along the sea, therefore hotels on the beach, will have trains in close proximity, aswas the case here. We had requested side by side rooms for our party of4 but that was not accommodated. Be aware that if using the pool, aswimming cap must be worn.

Review 89:Hands-on owner. Staff is very friendly and tends to all your needsimmediately. Our gluten intolerance was accommodated and the owner evenarranged to have gluten-free sandwiches brought to the beach for us.Hotel is modern, clean, and a/c work great. Lots of weddings on-site but they never interfered with our stay. We stayed 11 nites andduring that time, the staff treated us like family. On the hotel'sprivate beach, you will find umbrellas, loungers, a concession, outdoorshowers, and washrooms. Full activities all day/evening exceptduring siesta hours.

Review 90:No complaints!

Review 91:The staff were really kind and friendly.Despite the fact that we were the only guests who didn't speak Italien they were very welcoming towards us and our 12 year old daughter. We even participated in some of the activities organised such as beach volley ball. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide choice of foods. The nearby town of Amantea has a good range of restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is very nicely decorated and extremely clean.

Review 92:Great hotel with a great swimming pool and private beach. Friendly staff with free onsite car parking. Good restaurant. Shops near by (10 minutes drive). Would spend another week there without hesitation.

Review 93:we absolutely DID NOT LIKE the loud music on the beach and also the radio music that was also too loud. We are music lovers but this was ridiculous. People come to the beach to hear the ocean splashing on sand not to hear loud disco music blaring in their ear. You should do something about this because I can guarantee that a lot of tourists do not like this. I spoke to some of them and they feel the same as we do. You should either turn the music to a low volume or do away with it altogether. If people want to hear loud music they will go to a disco night club - NOT the beach.

Review 94:we love the location and the beach area and openness of it all. The room and food were also wonderful.

Review 95:Only one gripe - the pool times are absurdly restrictive and the life guard who ordered my wife from the pool would not win any awards for grace and charm.

Review 96:We got a fantastic deal through booking.com and, for the price, certainly could not complain. The rooms (a small suite) were wonderfully equipped, including Sky Sports free of charge on the TV, enabling us to watch Murray win Wimbledon live. Breakfast was excellent and the public areas of the hotel were superbly presented (albeit the original architect should have been shot!). The hotel was hosting a wedding reception on the day of our stay and the soundproofing was superb.

Review 97:It is good hotel if You have a your car... Shops a little far from hotel...

Review 98:It is good hotel. We had the number with perfect view. The breakfeast is good the menu is broad. The perfect beach near hotel the beachbed is free, wifi is free

Review 99:Luxurious accomadation at a fabulous rate .My balcony was right on theMeditteranean beach where children could swim. The breakfast was whatyou would expect from a grand hotel .It was grand .Your breakfast areais adjacent to a superb swimming pool .

Review 100:The beach looks very poor, no facilities nearby. It is recommended to book seaside otherwise you are looking to a small pool. the city of Amentera is not on walking distance.

Review 101:the view over the sea. A few hours at the beach (but definitly not longer)

Review 102:I didn't know that there would be parties almost every day. Only 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday) it was calm, on all the other days, there was either wedding, communion, birthday parties, and you could here the people and the music until late at night. Also room 108 is situated above the restaurant/kitchen, and moving chairs, doors banging and all the stuff was quite unbearable, the banging was starting very early in the morning until very late during the night, so almost 24/7. I'm quite sensible to noise, and just because of this, I wouldn't stay anymore at this hotel, perhaps in another room on the 2nd floor, but there's no guarantee that you won't hear the noise also there.

Review 103:The room was quite big, we had room 108, which has a seperated bedroom and bathroom. Terrasse was very big with view on the sea.

Review 104:Very comfortable room. A few English channels on the TV. Breakfast was good - fruit and pastries with good coffee. We really enjoyed the location and amenities. Would highly recommend this hotel - great value for money.

Review 105:Nothing!

Review 106:The receptionists were excellent and very professional and helpful. The restaurant was very smart with a great range of food on the menu. The room had a beautiful view over the sea from a large balcony and a big bathroom with lovely décor.

Review 107:The only downside is that there is no where nearby to walk to and if you need to go into the town you would need a car or hire a taxi.

Review 108:All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The evening meals were excellent and the whole hotel was very clean. We had a twin room with 2 sea view balconies and good sized bathroom. The hotel is just across a quite road from a nice sandy beach. There is a very good and secure car park.

Review 109:There are two hotels next to each other almost with the same name.

Review 110:Breakfast was really good. The beach is just 50 m from the hotel. You need only to cross the street.

Review 111:The food wasn't great quality.

Review 112:Location

Review 113:Fantastic value! The price was excellent for both food & accommodation. Best deal during trip

Review 114:Construction was going on that started at 0800 in the morning. I am sure it will be completed soon.

Review 115:Great location with a good off season price.

Review 116:Staff didn't seem too interested, could have been a bit nicer and more helpful.

Review 117:Good room, clean and comfortable.

Review 118:Location, 50 meters to beautiful, sandy beach, good breakfast

Review 119:Reception staff not knowledgeable or interested! Breakfast adequate but bit of same old....

Review 120:Great location almost on beach.

Review 121:Location across from the beach

Review 122:Pool hours too limited

Review 123:Great rooms and super clean hotel

Review 124:Price

Review 125:Nice

Review 126:This was a superb hotel experience with exceptional staff and terrific location. We will return and look forward to our next stay.

The Fine Print
