Reviews for The River Haven Hotel

Review 1:Friendly efficient check in, nice spacious clean room and a superb cooked breakfast. Stayed here before and will do again....the only local hotel with a large car park. Great value.

Review 2:Low voltage 'economic' lighting in bedroom and bathroom meant it was difficult to read (and put on make-up!).

Review 3:Charming helpful staff. Comfortable warm, clean room. Good location especially with a car which could be parked in ample car park. Tea, biscuits, milk topped up in bedroom.

Review 4:Would have been an even better say if the bed had been a bit longer, my husband is over 6 ft but this is a common problem when we go away

Review 5:Staff very pleasant, location very good, great value for money, great to have European made complimentary toiletries.

Review 6:We liked absolutely everything about this hotel. Position is great, staff is very helpful, rooms are amazing. Spacious, clean with a stunning view. I can only highly recommend this hotel to anyone. One of the best budget hotels I have stayed

Review 7:Good location, nice establishment by the river, easy to find and easy parking. Nice to stay at. Easy walk to see around Rye. Enjoyed the stay and enjoyed seeing Rye

Review 8:I'd have liked a lounge area for relaxing in the evening, .There were sofas by reception but this felt more like a waiting area. However, given price I think that would be a lot to ask for.

Review 9:The location and easy parking were good (a short but pleasant walk into town); very friendly, clean and comfortable. Great full English breakfast. The riverside terrace would be lovely in the summer.

Review 10:Easy to find, plenty of parking space, comfortable quiet room with openable window. Evening meal with limited menu, but swift service and good food. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.

Review 11:The hotel was without character or any hint of luxury. The bath towels were small and almost see through, the toiletries cheap and the pillows thin and hard. Shabby furnishings and badly fitting carpets throughout. We were very dissappointed. It was impossible to tell how it could have gotten such positive reviews previously. Our basin was cracked, there was mould on the windows and in the shower and my chair at breakfast was broken. The only highlight was the nice young man at reception when we arrived.

Review 12:Hotel is a little tired, and is situated adjacent to some vacant/disused properties which give an overall feeling of being in need of modernisation.

Review 13:Very friendly staff. Clean. Good value for money.

Review 14:The only negative was a flat pint of larger

Review 15:Breakfast was included in the price and was very good. Offered a vegetarian breakfast with vegetarian sausages and not just a full English minus bacon and egg.

Review 16:The night porter was unable to serve drinks from the bar although on a previous stay this had not been a problem. I don't know the rules but it appears to be down to the discretion of who is on duty.

Review 17:Very comfortable bed, excellent buffet breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 18:Didn't think much of the breakfast - very greasy and the baked beans & mushrooms had been kept warm for too long so they were dried out. Felt very old fashioned in view of most people trying to eat healthily.

Review 19:Our room was really good & we loved the free parking

Review 20:would of liked a fridge in the room, hotel is dated bedroom needs a facelift

Review 21:Great location, large car park, very clean and friendly staff, nice river view

Review 22:Really hard to state anything but, if I must, & it's hardly a complaint - Ladies prefer a moveable Shower head as if it's over head (as now) ones hair gets wet when one doesn't want it to.

Review 23:Liked it all. Happy with value.

Review 24:Breakfast was functional rather than special: warm milk, packets of jam, standard meat quality, very slow toaster, not fresh juice. Rather tired decor. Poor water pressure in shower.

Review 25:Car parking facilities at the hotel. Location. Price.

Review 26:Bar was adequately stocked but not really a bar to relax in with other people, more a cormner of the restaurant.

Review 27:Super comfortable bed! walking distance to old town and restaurants / pubs Good wi fi

Review 28:Unfortunately not a lot to do in Rye - particularly in very wet weather.

Review 29:Lovely hotel with lots of friendly staff. Excellent breakfasts. Easy walk to the town centre.

Review 30:The restaurant wasn't open the first two nights of our stay with no explanation given.

Review 31:The location of the hotel was good being beside the river and was only a short walk from the station. Breakfast was freshly cooked. The lady on reception the first night was very helpful with getting us a table at a local restaurant as their own wasn't open. Rye is definitely worth a visit.

Review 32:Although we just made breakfast (and they were very helpful) the buffet style cooked breakfast had become pretty tired.

Review 33:really lovely having two very comfortable full sized beds for older children rather than a sofa bed which is difficult with mixed sexes. Staff on desk were very helpful.

Review 34:The room was very warm as was the duvet, unable to open the window due to Road noise. A fan in the room or a bed sheet would be helpful.

Review 35:Breakfast was lovely. Room was nice and comfortable

Review 36:WiFi was a little patchy with laptop but good for kindle. Surprised that restaurant was closed on Sunday evening

Review 37:Cleanliness, friendliness, location good for walking into Rye especially with free parking and comfort

Review 38:Most of the staff are really friendly, some could be a bit more polite / helpful

Review 39:Fab location, clean hotel, large rooms and car parking was a major bonus for us

Review 40:Our room No.3. needs thicker curtaining, rather than thin cotton

Review 41:large car park, easy access on foot into Rye Pleasant location overlooking river Good breakfast

Review 42:The bed was uncomfortable The hotel had not received my booking which was made through this website (but they quickly found me a room)

Review 43:Very good parking Central location in the town Huge breakfast

Review 44:Right on the waterfront. Lovely bedroom with comfortable, large double bed. Easy access with heavy suitcase from car park to room. Access to rooms also appeared very wheelchair friendly. Friendly, helpful staff. Conservatory style dining room overlooking the harbour. Good food, but best of all was the breakfast! Veggie sausages available without asking, tinned tomatoes and fresh tomatoes, eggs done 3 ways, all delicious and hot.

Review 45:Nothing negative, we'd quite happily stay there again.

Review 46:A very nice hotel with good car parking in an excellent location very close to the historic centre. Clean and comfortable with very pleasant staff. Good breakfast, full English in a buffet style, served in a conservatory by the river. Free wifi.

Review 47:We were running late, due to traffic, and phoned reception to ask "what time the Resturant closed" they said 20:30 we explained we may not make. There answer was " don't worry we will wait for you". On arrival we were met with a friendly, warm reception. We enjoyed a wonderful meal. The River Haven hotel is definitely somewhere we will visit again. Rye itself should not be missed.

Review 48:Only downside was that the television in the room adjoining ours was extremely loud and when the occupants returned late one night the television woke us up, although to be fair it wasn't long before it was turned down slightly.

Review 49:My husband and I stayed at the Riverside to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff were polite and courteous. Our room was a good size with a good view of the river.

Review 50:Creaky bed, insufficient lounge area for enjoying a drink with friends, old and scratched room furniture

Review 51:Closeness to town, friendliness of staff, speedy resolution of problems, outside area overlooking river

Review 52:The noise from the party on Saturday night was very very loud! But it did stop at midnight on the dot.

Review 53:Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was nice and spacious with a lovely view of the river and the strand across the river.

Review 54:Some of the staff were not very friendly. Toiletries comprised of two small bars of soap! Very creaky floors - late nighters work us up.

Review 55:Clean but tired furnishings. Cooked breakfast was good but limited selection of fruit and yogart.

Review 56:Restaurant meals were basic Bed most uncomfortable Room needed a lot of maintenance Local area to hotel very run down

Review 57:Location to East Kent Friendly and helpful staff

Review 58:The staff are so friendly nothing is to much trouble . The rooms are very comfortable and the location is great. The breakfast is lovely and book for Sunday lunch one of the best we have had .

Review 59:Shower in the bath which was difficult for us being elderly. Also no proper bar to have a drink in before evening meal. Didn't feel like a hotel to me but more of a Motel. Also given the wrong meal in the evening which I couldn't finish.

Review 60:staff were friendly but could improve on dining room etiquette and service. Had a very untrained feeling to the service which was a bit slap happy.

Review 61:Lighting was very dim in our room. Had to move table light to be able to see at desk. Not a criticism really but hand written restaurant and room bills rather archaic ! Some computer investments maybe.

Review 62:Ten of us stayed 3 nights on a cycling trip last month. Hotel is by the river not in the hilly town centre but still convenient for pubs and restaurants although immediate area is not the best. We had a very pleasant sizeable room on ground floor. Breakfast was excellent with menu choices on first two mornings but inexplicably changed to self service on last day. Had one evening meal which was very acceptable .

Review 63:The hotel felt under used and the dining room conservatory wasn't welcoming or a place you would want to use frequently. A change of decoration would make all of the difference and ensure people want to stay and have a drink and a meal. Crockery and glasses were not always clean as they could be.

Review 64:Friendly staff, location of the hotel and general cleanliness of the hotel

Review 65:Our room looked as if the sleeping area had recently been refurbished quite tastefully and the only small quibble is that the bed should perhaps have been king size instead of the old UK size.

Review 66:Ample free parking and close proximity to the old town, just 10 minutes gentle stroll. We arrived early in horrible weather, not a problem for this family run hotel, we were allocated a room within minutes and although the restaurant was fully booked for their popular Sunday Carvery, we were given a table after just a short delay.

Review 67:What struck myself and my sister during our stay was how friendly and helpful everyone we came into contact with was.Customer service clearly a watchword but delivered with sincerity! That's before the gorgeous buildings in the town are considered.

Review 68:The hotel was perfect for what we required as we were out cycling every day. However, if you had wanted to stay in the hotel more there was no proper lounge or bar just small areas put to one side.

Review 69:We were a group of cyclists with nine bikes that needed secure storage. The staff went to great lengths clearing a shed in order to accommodate all the bikes. At meal times and on reception the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent: freshly cooked and mid-week there was a huge choice including eggs royale!

Review 70:Good location for Rye centre. Free parking. Quiet at night overlooking the river. Good food. Friendly accommodating staff. Rooms large enough but no lift access.

Review 71:Parking limited so had to park over the river and right down long road which wasn't very practical with a case. Though in hindsight, should've dropped them off first.

Review 72:Bars, restaurants and pubs were so close. River boat ride over the road and beautiful palace out the window. Also liked the historical significance of The Mitre.

Review 73:The outside areas of the hotel are a little shabby in places, particularly the areas overlooking the river.

Review 74:Staff are pleasant and helpful Breakfast is freshly cooked to order Our room was clean Good car parking

Review 75:If you like your windows open at night, as we do, don't stay on the ground floor as there was nothing to stop anyone from off site from opening the window wider and accessing the room.

Review 76:Our room was slightly 'tired' but clean and quite well appointed. Tea and coffee making facilities were welcome. The staff were generally helpful and friendly, particularly a young man on the desk when we arrived and who advised us where to go on our visit to Rye. The bonus was the large car park as not all hotels in Rye have guest parking.

Review 77:Receptionist was friendly & welcoming, rooms clean and comfortable. Child-friendly. Good cooked breakfast including vegetarian options though no pastries/croissants. Not in the pretty part of Rye but is a short (uphill) walk into the town centre. Plenty of car parking.

Review 78:Just a one night stopover but all aspects of the hotel were pleasing. Would not hesitate to use River Haven again and would like to try their dinner as menu looked well balanced. Unforunately for them we had already boooked in ay Webbe's Fish Restaurant.

Review 79:No bad experiences to report

Review 80:The hotel is clean, the beds are comfortable and family room we had was ideal with a double bed and two singles. Upon arrival we asked if we could book for the Easter Sunday lunch and although they were booked up, the lady on reception was brilliant in fitting us in, it was a lovely roast as good, if not better, than a home cooked one. All staff were friendly and very helpful, will definitely stay again.

Review 81:Spent a couple of days in Rye during a visit to England. Enjoyed our stay and it was nice to have tea making facilities after staying in French hotels!

Review 82:When we first arrived, there was someone else's bag in our room! They quickly took us to another room but it seemed a bit disorganised.

Review 83:Staff were friendly and very kind when one of us was taken ill.

Review 84:Very pleasant hotel and rooms nicely decorated and comfy. Nice touch to have bottled water in the room. Free parking an absolutely asset as very difficult to park anywhere else in Rye.

Review 85:No character, carpets in reception, corridors stained and old.Staff not that friendly.Location. view of very muddy river !

Review 86:Bed comfortable. size of room. English breakfast o.k.

Review 87:Building's remoteness from station. Ugly surroundings (other buildings, not the hotel) away from river, with busy road (hardly audible, however, from inside).

Review 88:The outward and inward appearance and spaciousness of the building. Its location on one (the river) side. Spacious well-appointed room, nice river view. Well-cooked veggie breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Quietness (not so in summer, we were told).

Review 89:Breakfast on Sunday was only until 9.30am. On a Sunday! But it was a good breakfast.

Review 90:Accessible rooms on ground floor, car parking, restaurant, friendly, helpful staff, location.

Review 91:We had a lovely view of the river from our room. The hotel is only a short walk from the centre of Rye. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. There is on-site parking.

Review 92:The heating could have been increased a little higher in the dinning room as we did feel rather chilly during dinner.

Review 93:A very pleasant stay in a well placed location for walking into the town. Very polite and helpful staff, very enjoyable set Valentines dinner menu and a good buffet breakfast served in a light and airy dinning room.

Review 94:If you don't want an English breakfast. the "Continental" was not very good. There was little choice, on our second day there was no yogurt or grapefruit on offer.

Review 95:A good location for access to sight see in Rye. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The English breakfast was good

Review 96:Location was lovely by the river. There is a large conservatory where breakfast is held that is light and pleasant. We only stayed one night so did not explore all the facilities

Review 97:Nothing

Review 98:On arrival we had a very warm welcome, warm room lovely breakfast. All staff friendly and helpful. We had a slight problem with the toilet flush and on reporting it,it was dealt with straight away. Highly recommended.

Review 99:Nothing not to like

Review 100:The hotel is in great location the staff are friendly and can't do enough for you food is lovely and plenty of if the hotel made our return to rye after 5 years a trip that was enjoyable relaxing and wouldn't hesitate to return to the river haven again

Review 101:We liked the fact that the room was spacious and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely and the location of the hotel was convenient and easy to access.

Review 102:First member of staff we met was quite unfriendly. The other members of staff were fine. The beds very uncomfortable.

Review 103:Good breakfast. Nice position for a hotel

Review 104:The staff were so welcoming and helpful. One case did not arrive at Heatrow when we arrived and took two days to get to hotel. At all times the staff did everything to help. Also they helped defrost car - just could not do enough for us

Review 105:The new extension on the hotel is clean and lovely but lacks the old world charm you may expect when booking this hotel. Wifi not accessible in the end rooms.

Review 106:Close to the old rye town. You can walk from the hotel across the river and you are there in the middle of this gorgeous town. Great places to eat.

Review 107:Nothng I didn't like about thi little gem. Fairly priced. Excellent. A+

Review 108:Excellently appointed with knowledgable staff. Caters for all generations which is difficult achievement these days. Non-pretentious. A welcome feature is the fact breakfast IS included & you don't have to trapse to Wetherspoons (a feature FAR too common these days!)

Review 109:Cannot complain about anything

Review 110:Good location very friendly staff lovely atmosphere we have stayed before and will stay again and a plus is the breakfast is always freshly cooked

Review 111:Having booked a really good value B&B stay through booking.com, I was surprised to get an email direct from the hotel. They were letting me know that there was a special event on the night we were coming and, as well as offering us the chance to buy tickets for it (which didn't fit in with our plans) they said that they had given us a room as far away as possible from the noise. Very considerate and much appreciated. Everything during our stay was as good as this led us to expect. Apart from breakfast, we didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the meals.

Review 112:Dinner menu choices were limited but with very few guests at this time of year this was understandable. We enjoyed the choices we made.

Review 113:the view from our bedroom, the friendliness of the staff.

Review 114:- The restaurant was a little chilly (it was in a conservatory but we wrapped up against it next time!)

Review 115:- Staff were helpful and attentive - Car parking (very difficult to park in the main town and most people from hotels in the centre of Rye park in the pay and display car park next to the River Haven!) - Good sized, clean rooms - Excellent breakfast

Review 116:we were charged an extra £10 per room because we asked if the room could be ready earlier as we were attending a 2.30 wedding. mould on the bread at breakfast and unclean table, not cleaned from previous user. breakfast not very appetising.

Review 117:Location good. In walking distance to the wedding venue, the purpose of the stay. Rooms were clean, comfortable bed.

Review 118:Flickering light in the corridor gave a poor impression. No lifts for people with poorer mobility.

Review 119:Located close to where we were attending a party. Easy to find. Reasonable off road parking. Spacious well equipped rooms

Review 120:My partner was very tall and we ended up with a double bed as that was all they had when we booked. The duvet was not tall enough for him resulting in a poor sleep.

Review 121:Good Location, nice staff . Breakfast was buffet with a wide variety of choice. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and the meal was very nice.

Review 122:The hotel provided cheap party type plasic cups, rather than a glass for drinks in the room, which is a shame. The 'biscuit' provided with tea making, was very small indeed!

Review 123:The hotel is ideally appointed within walking distance of Rye, and is comfortable and clean with freindly staff.

Review 124:It was all good!

Review 125:Extremely friendly and efficient staff, comfortable and clean room, ample car parking and short walk into Rye town. Excellent breakfast and carvery lunch on Sunday. Overall it was a good value hotel.

Review 126:hotel was very clean staff friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them ,the breakfast was lovely cooked to perfection ,location very nice close to town bus and train station.

Review 127:nothing!

Review 128:The lady at the reception was so lovely - welcoming, friendly, informative and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and very cosy, everything in the bathroom worked, shower great and plentiful hot waster. Breakfast was good. The hotel is in a great position for the town. Couldn't fault a thing.

Review 129:Nothing to disappoint us apart from the weather!

Review 130:Often stay at this hotel because we know we can rely on the high standard of rooms and breakfast never disappoints.
