Reviews for Rye Lodge Hotel & Spa
Review 1:Although called a hotel, there are no evening meal facilities. This meant finding somewhere although hotel staff were very helpful, directing us to other restaurants.
Review 2:Excellent , helpful and friendly staff. Very comfortable room & a good breakfast.
Review 3:The swimming pool and sauna, and spa great relaxing , friendly staff , i highly recommend this hotel to stay in rye , very clean , a complete relaxing weekend , no complaints from me all good.
Review 4:We liked Everything!!!
Review 5:The hotel was lovely,Friendly, helpful staff, everyone top class customer services. The room spacious, clean, had everything than you could need for our stay and more:), lovely decorated and a few seconds away from the hotel spa facilities, lovely pool just right for us. The choice of having breakfast in our room at no extra charge was perfect!! We felt so spoiled :) brought to our room with a smile and delicious perfectly cooked, what a great place to stay and so near everything in Rye and the bonus of free car park.
Review 6:The room, bed and bathroom very small. The walls are very thin and so you can hear everyone in the rooms next to you and in the corridors. Pool is very small.
Review 7:The staff were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. Everything was clean. Very convenient location - can walk from the station in a few minutes and the high street is 1 minute away. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Review 8:Only minor gripe pool and jacuzzi temp could be warmer and splinters in the wood of the steam room bench.
Review 9:The hotel was quaint. Views gorgeous. The most comfortable bed ever slept in. Lovely staff. Scrumptious breakfast. Central location.
Review 10:Walls are paper thin. Hardly got any sleep as noisy corridors and can hear conversations of people next door ! Plumbing very noisy and outdated too.
Review 11:Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb, fresh and tasty.
Review 12:It's just a shame the hotel doesn't have a restaurant for dining in. Also, the wording on the room information regarding breakfast is confusing. It doesn't mention Saturdays but turns out breakfast is served until 10am, unlike Sundays when it is 10.30am.
Review 13:The location was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable. The pool and sauna were a bonus and we were lucky enough to have a room with direct access to those facilities.
Review 14:Bathroom too small and shower cubicle far too small.
Review 15:Lots of extras in the room. Excellent toiletries and good choice of tea and coffee. Comfy room all round.
Review 16:Room was a bit hot at night.
Review 17:Great location for enjoying all that Rye has to offer. Nice comfortable room. Small but nice pool and sauna. Car park a real bonus.
Review 18:There was no restaurant despite offering room service! Very dated decoration and furnishings. Over priced for a glorified bed and breakfast. I paid for an upgraded room and so expected a room with a view - disappointed that it was a view of the car park!
Review 19:The room was large, comfortable and clean. The hotel had a convenient car park.
Review 20:There was no negative experience at all
Review 21:The fact that any and all needs were met to the highest standards, the facilities were more than adequate and the service was perfect in every aspect. I enjoyed the stay so much so, that I have considered making a second trip next year as a renaissance to the moments I shared with my partner this year. If I had to say what was the best part apart from the cost, would have to be the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. I find it hard to let go and just relax, but with the Rye lodge, there staff were friendly and thoughtful, making my stay so rewarding, I could easily have stayed for the next week.
Review 22:Saturday breakfast a bit chaotic and dining room small therefore not much in the buffet. No magnifying mirror in the bathroom for those of us who don't have perfect eyesight. Public rooms small.
Review 23:The location is very good in a lovely town. Beds were very comfortable. Room 7 was a lovely size with a small balcony. Didn't use it but breakfast was available in the room at no extra charge. Reception staff lovely. Free parking at the back of the hotel.
Review 24:It is more of a bed and breakfast without the breakfast included! Very small and pool is tiny! Over priced compared to other leisure hotels amenities.
Review 25:Location
Review 26:I book in for 3 nights with my wife who has dementia not knowing change was not good for her & had to leave next morning the staff were ever understanding &considerate.
Review 27:The 1st morning we woke up of smelling smoke and noticed our noises were black. It was early morning, we went straight away to reception and told about our situation. So she went to check and gone. I had to come again to discuss the smoke, found her at her working place (so she decided NOT to inform us). Only after hotel gave us another bathroom for morning. So after they cleaned, was no signed of smoke. So looks like it was sauna) maybe we were the only one who like it)) No bathrobes - strange for SPA hotel. No one controlled the kids in a pool - they were very noisy, jumped into the water, ran around - parents of stuff said nothing.
Review 28:Very beautiful location in a beautiful town. Nice and stylish rooms, big and bright. There are a small pool and sauna.
Review 29:The room was small with a tiny wardrobe, where everything had to hang sideways in order for the door to close. There was no heating in the bathroom, only a towel rail which didn't work and no shelf in the bathroom for toiletries etc.
Review 30:The hotel was very central and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 31:Our room was very small, the 'double bed' felt more like a 'small double' and you could hear people speaking in the next room (and they could hear us).
Review 32:Staff were lovely, experienced and with lots of local knowledge! The location was idea especially if you are arriving by car. Parking on premises was terrific. And we enjoyed the indoor pool and sauna
Review 33:Breakfast was poor value; walked up the high street and had a great breakfast for half the money.
Review 34:Nice people; in real king distance of shops and restaurants.
Review 35:Leaving, we want to move in for good.
Review 36:Everything, especially the most amazing staff we have every come across. They made us and our little dog feel like long lost friends. It was really lovely to have a swim and sauna all to ourselves on Sunday morning. A truly special place and Rye is totally gorgeous.
Review 37:Room was a bit too warm on the first day because radiator in bathroom could not be turned off independently.
Review 38:Excellent and quiet location, comfortable bed, nice sauna and pool facilities. Staff very helpful and friendly. Fresh bottled water in room every day.
Review 39:Hotel was outdated and very over priced. The champagne bar and leisure centre were poor and over-marketed. The hotel needs a serious refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards.
Review 40:Free accessible car park
Review 41:Handle fell off the wardrobe door. Info asked you to put your valuablesin the room safe which didn't exist. Balcony was nice but overlookedthe car park. Decor was a bit 50's ott.
Review 42:The staff were considerate and welcoming. The room was spacious and thebed was comfy. Very good to get umbrellas supplied - we certainly neededthem. Car park a plus.
Review 43:we ordered continental breakfast which consisted of fruit or cereal and toast - not very imaginative. The room itself was very small.
Review 44:Use of the swimming pool and sauna was great.
Review 45:We wish they had a restaurant for the evening. Only complaint.
Review 46:All of the staff were very friendly and the hotel was lovely. In the centre of rye. The room was clean and comfortable and we also used the swimming pool.
Review 47:WiFi only available via Facebook which is not suitable for everyone and an invasion of privacy.
Review 48:Perfect location for visiting Rye. Private car park facilities. Comfort of room.
Review 49:The reception welcome was not friendly, (Oh you booked through Booking people) she showed us up to our room (10) which was staggeringly hot, but after opening windows and leaving door open it started to cool. Went back to reception regarding a none working fan, but later found that the fan was OK but 2 sockets on the dressing table did not work,I told her about the water across bathroom floor leaking from toilet flush, she said well I can't get maintenance or a plumber, I don't have another room so make do. Next morning I spoke to the assistant manager who was very helpful and immediately sent housekeeping with bathmats to keep area dry until it could be fixed. Settling our bill the card machines were not working, fortunately I had enough cash to settle, she apologised about the water and gave us a bottle of champagne as gesture of remorse.
Review 50:Room was recently refurbished and was clean and tidy. Breakfast staff were helpful and pleasant, food was very good
Review 51:We stayed two nights. On the fist morning, the alarm went off an hour and a half later than we asked for. This was reported. On the second morning it did not go off at all. Breakfast was 15 minutes late the second morning.
Review 52:The decor of the room was perfect. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfasts were good.
Review 53:There was nothing that I did not like.
Review 54:I liked the ambiance and feel of the hotel - the old world charm, I enjoyed the food, the staff were very pleasant and the location was perfect.
Review 55:Parking in the initially overcrowded car park was difficult. The en suite shower room was cramped and claustrophobic. The hotel bar is not worthy of the name.
Review 56:Ideal location in Rye, allowed us to leisurely stroll around town and return to the hotel when we needed to. Generally comfortable room and lounge. Spa facilities were nice on a hot day.
Review 57:There were 2 sash windows in the room but only 1 opened - about 4 inches. It was unbearably hot and stuffy
Review 58:The breakfast choice was good and it was freshly cooked
Review 59:Unfortunately the receptionist when we arrived was not very welcoming and didn't tell us how to access any of the hotel facilities such as the restaurant or spa. The room was stunning. We had a great night sleep but did get woken up by the people in the next room talking as the walls were very thin and the room door had a huge 2-3 inch gap at the bottom which let in more sound from outside. When we woke up I managed to shower fine but when my partner went to shower there was no hot water. We called reception to ask if there was an issue with the water and the receptionist was rather rude saying there were no issues, no one else had complained and to wait 20 minutes for the water pressure to go up. After waiting 20 minutes there was still no water so we called reception again where their only response was for him to go and use the communal showers in the spa (this was a glass cubical in the corner of the changing rooms). When we checked out the receptionist was apologetic for the lack of no water but didn't offer any compensation or good will gestures. Having paid over £130 for just a room at this hotel we were not impressed. Whilst it was a stunning location and room, there are issues that need to be addressed. It's safe to say we would think twice about booking a room here again.
Review 60:The room and hotel itself is beautiful and has a lovely view.
Review 61:On our tour of the South East this was the most expensive hotel we stayed in as a couple so we did expect something a little special. We took the room that was slightly closer to the pool to use the Spa facilities. The sauna was warm and there was no clear instruction on how to switch it on. A note reading "Please Ask Reception To Switch On The Sauna' would have been useful, we were told this was the procedure on departing from the hotel... really annoying as we were only staying one night. Inside the warm sauna there was no 'Emergency Cord' to pull as instructed by the note on the wall, but there was a big red button which I pressed twice. Nobody came. So pretty bad on the health and safety front. For £135 I expect breakfast, I presumed there would be breakfast included at this price. So poor value for money. Rye is a beautiful town so the place and not the hotel made it a pleasant experience.
Review 62:We like Rye.
Review 63:The bed was too close to the dresser, only one person at a time could pass & the shower was compact, (the shower curtain stuck to you as you showered).
Review 64:Nice place with friendly staff, great spa, comfortable room, although not very roomy
Review 65:If you book through Booking.com - no meal doesn't mean no lunch or dinner but no breakfast! Only one exercise machine working - treadmill. A lot of small bits of maintenance needed - e.g. grout around tiles and sinks in Leisure area.
Review 66:Location. Friendly staff. Comfy bed
Review 67:The rate was a 30% discount from the breakfast rate, but on arrival we were room only. We took this up with booking.com who agreed the rate was misleading, this was not the hotels fault, but something to be wary of when booking via booking.com.
Review 68:The location of the hotel is excellent and parking convenient once you crack the one way system. The room was clean and tidy and well equipped; our first night was a little spoilt by a tired mattress, but on asking, it was changed, so a good response. The pool and sauna were a nice facility in a small hotel.
Review 69:The housekeeping always missed something. Mattress high at the edges (sagged into the middle). Patio doors were insecure, like many things they suffered from a lack of expenditure on maintenance.
Review 70:The staff were always helpful. Upgraded to better room on a budget deal.
Review 71:You have to 'check-in' at the hotel on facebook to access the free wifi. The room cost £175 for one night and breakfast was not included. £12.50 a head extra for breakfast. This is not a £175 a night hotel - , mattress was thin, bathroom dirty, and the hotel is tired - really in need of a refurb.
Review 72:Room was huge with nice views.
Review 73:Free car parking is a major plus in Rye, but finding the hotel car park was a major minus. When you book you should have clear directions at that time. It is impossible to find otherwise and very inconvenient/frustrating.
Review 74:Good value, but above all it delivered what the "site" said. No exceptions!
Review 75:The room could have done with a fridge; also the decor (curtains, carpet, wallpaper, pictures) was a bit tired and needed a refresh. Room was a bit cramped and the television should be on the wall in front of the bed, not to the side, as vewing was difficult. Some attention needed in bathroom - cracked bath panel, poor lighting levels, shaving mirror awkward to use. Coffee/tea unit was also awkward to use, pull down flap was not level. Needed more power sockets to charge phones etc. Pool temperature could have been a bit higher. Spa may be difficult to get into for less mobile people.
Review 76:The hotel was pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. Location was excellent and the car park was very convenient. It was handy being able to load up the car directly from the back of the room. Spa facilities were adequate. Comfortable bed and nice hot/powerful shower, nice complimentary toiletries in bathroom and biscuits in bedroom. Towels lovely and fresh/clean. Wi-Fi was acceptable although it did seem to just drop out at times, plus I had to ask reception for password - could have been printed on room instructions.
Review 77:noisy guests late at night, no respect for others, bathroom very, very small, a couple of items missing on the breakfast tray, apart from that OK
Review 78:clean, friendly, and convenient. especially situated in Rye high street, staff very friendly, the room was always cleaned to a high standard.
Review 79:Its attention to detail wasn't too good, for example carpet in the bedroom was old and tied and coming up in the corner, had no fridge in fridge cupboard. Had different handles on bathroom taps like one had been replaced. Swimming pool was cold but not as cold as the bubble bath. The place just needs upgrading abit. For the price you expect that bit more.
Review 80:Loved the bed! The staff were great kind and helpful. Sauna was brill and the location was spot on.
Review 81:The smell of paint was very pungent on our arrival. Windows were kept open wide and deodoriser was bought to counteract the problem. Bathroom door jammed.
Review 82:Beautiful fluffy towels in rooms as well as being used for the pool area. Drinks, bottled water and biscuits well stocked every day.
Review 83:The pool was a bit cold, i think they should turn up the temperature at least on weekends. We still swam though, the sauna warmed us up.
Review 84:Clean! So well kept and yet not cold modern and sterile like too many hotels are nowadays. Wonderful staff, the highlight was sitting with a glass of wine speaking to the hotel manager James and listening to his stories. Sauna Within walking distance to everywhere important in Rye Beautiful rooms
Review 85:Lack of table to eat breakfast in room Dirty windows spoilt view Room cost TV did not have all Freeview channels Food smells in room in the morning
Review 86:Location Fridge in room
Review 87:Terribly over priced on what i would basically call a gloried Bed & Breakfast.
Review 88:Good location and parking available. Staff on reception very helpful.
Review 89:About 30 years out of date. Coffee awful, need to be serving cappuccino, etc if your charging £3.25 for it. Paintwork on front of hotel and decking area could do with a spring clean. Doesn't do the hotel any favours.
Review 90:Excellent position and friendly staff. Unusual rooms.
Review 91:I think The Reception Staff could be more friendly . Thats The first contact that's made A Smile with your job would have been nice but very helpful but abrupt. Hotel 1st Class
Review 92:1st Class Hotel
Review 93:A little pricy. Standard rooms are small and only have shower, bathroom a little cramped. Hard to tell from pictures on Booking.com as rooms look larger.Tried to upgrade but all rooms booked but obviously not the hotels fault
Review 94:Nice and clean, car park very useful as town very busy. indoor spa pool looked nice but did not have time to try.
Review 95:Quite a rude check in lady no breakfast included in the price considering the price charged door key did not work in back door however much we tried and was told it was stiff and just needed a wiggle
Review 96:The heating in the room did not work even after telling receptionist. Towels were left on the u heated towel rail so we're still damp the following day.
Review 97:Most of the staff were very miserable and unhelpful when we arrived. No information in the room about the Hotel, wifi, times for breakfast, places to see etc. No free champagne if you booked through booking.com, you could have a drink in their lounge but it didn't look friendly and no background music, so too quiet. Swimming pool was cold. We paid a lot of money for the best room and whilst the room was nice the Hotel lacked warmth and friendliness.
Review 98:Good size room, lovely comfy bed. Location was very central and the breakfast was good.
Review 99:Comfortable, quiet and convenient for Rye town centre. Car parking a bonus. Friendly staff. Better than average breakfast - but not as good as The George in Rye
Review 100:Would have been a better experience if disposable slippers were provided for the sauna as the wooden floor was mouldy. Gowns were also expected for the price paid for the stay. Décor of soft furnishings in room is very 1980s so feels like it needs a refresh. Also back door of room was sticking and difficult to open and close.
Review 101:great facilities and location
Review 102:- Breakfast not included which should be for the price paid - Swimming pool and jacuzzi both cold - Leak in bathroom ceiling and decor dated but the room we were moved to was lovely.
Review 103:- Location - Helpful staff when we had an issue with our room - Free Parking - Spa facilities
Review 104:Pool too cold to use. Dog in next room, easily woken! Would go back
Review 105:Lots of attention to detail, very clean, Staff pleasant. Lots of nice touches, given 3star
Review 106:Swimming pool and sauna wasn't quite brilliant. The pool water was too cold to enjoy it and the sauna was off so it took a while to reach the temperature. Waiting staff in the breakfast room was nice but quite slow.
Review 107:Comfortable and very nice hotel for a relaxing retreat. The room is beautifully decorated and the double bed was comfortable.
Review 108:Rather small shower.
Review 109:Extremely convenient for station and town centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. Bed very comfortable, and lots of thoughtful little extras in room.
Review 110:The bathroom was too small hardly room to dry yourself. Breakfast was extra no restaurant in the evening.
Review 111:Very clean and welcoming. A car park which is rare in Rye. Nice size bedroom with two comfortable chairs. Wifi access. Very good location.
Review 112:Spa area fairly small and jacuzzi cool.
Review 113:Great location, close to town centre. The night staff helpfully arranged a room upgrade when we had a problem with the room we had booked.
Review 114:Walls between rooms can be improved. We had two rooms in separate floors and in both rooms we kept bothered by noise from naighbous - snoring and TV noise. This is only one thing we found pitty with the hotel...
Review 115:Hotel staff were friendly while polite and we felt much welcomed at arrival. Rooms were gorgeous and we liked them a lot. We also liked the Venetian pool and sauna - if only the juggzy was warm even better. There is a free guest parking which was convenient.
Review 116:The water in spa pool and pool not warm enough.Being on ground floor and at the end we had steps into hotel right next to our windows. ..not ideal !! .
Review 117:The staff (especially Michael) were very welcoming. Room comfortable and cozy. Continental breakfast good value. Also ground floor room had easy access to the pool.
Review 118:Not being able to have a meal on the first evening, we had a bit of trouble booking a table for dinner at a local restaurant.
Review 119:We liked the location, the comfortable room, the Spa facilities. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was not included in the weekend price but we were happy to pay the extra for a good start to each day.
Review 120:Found it a bit noisy. Disappointed no breakfast included in room booking. Also disappointed no dining room for dinner. Thermostat set high + was extremely hot - couldn't get window open.
Review 121:Well located. Enjoyed bath.
Review 122:I really cant think of anything really I suppose if you really pushed me it would be that there is no restaurant for the evening but that is a minor thing because there are so many lovely restaurants in Rye
Review 123:This is my 2nd visit and it was lovely I took my daughter there for the weekend for some mum and daughter time we had the best time
Review 124:Breakfast was included, however I was charged approx £16 for it! The receptionist in the morning was awful. I booked the superior double, which was cool apart from the standard double bed! Not slept in one since uni
Review 125:The old boy on reception is lovely. Room was very clean and modern.
Review 126:The only thing I could say negative is the room was too hot & the heating wasn't on either !!
Review 127:We loved the pool & facilities given. The room was comfortable. It was an extra treat having a "bell boy" help us with our luggage, although my daughter was shocked at his height lol!! I've seen some reviews from people commenting about the decoration & needs updating but that's the nature of the decor being a Victorian style hotel with its antiquated decor.
Review 128:Arriving early and getting wet and staying wet until we could take the room
Review 129:We love rye for the shops, restaurants and the history of rye and around the area and Rye lodge is the perfect place to stay.
Review 130:Cold jacuzzi. Steam cabinet, running and cycle machines all out of action. Dim lighting, cracked ceiling and loose fitting in bathroom. The room information is only what they can fit on arrival card - no written advice on TV, radio or wifi controls. No wifi signal in the bedroom. TV tuning unreliable.Sunday breakfast not available before 830am normally. If you want supper or room service you have to book in advance and take it before 7pm. Pillows and duvet all non-breathable synthetic fabrics. Breakfast was extra if you had booked through Booking.com, but I have had larger nicer rooms including breakfast at much classier hotels than this for the price.
Review 131:The rooms are fancily decorated to traditional female taste, with mouldings on ceiling, prints on the walls, and pinkish bed covers. Room was very warm. Heated towel rail was switched on and advice on TV given when I reported problems. Staff at breakfast were attentive, and room kept clean and tidy.
Review 132:Bed was the worst we have slept in the sheets incredibly harsh and scratchy Very small double Bed Mattress poor quality very hard Room over baringly hot, During pool opening times had to ask for sauna to be turned on half hour wait for it to heat up
Review 133:Location, onsite parking, ,staff very helpful, decor nice but may need updating
Review 134:The décor is rather dated and our bed, although large, was creaky when we moved, so it affected our sleep.
Review 135:The hotel is in an excellent location and our room was quiet, it was good to have car parking. We enjoyed our breakfast which was cooked to order and the staff were very friendly.
Review 136:This hotel does not serve dinner. The room service finishes at 7 p.m. A logistic nightmare to go out to eat in the evening for someone who can only walk a few steps. No lifts for disabled persons.
Review 137:Nice big room comfortable room with balcony. - charming staff.
Review 138:The breakfast could be improved.
Review 139:The staff team who tried hard to meet all our needs. On site car park a definite advantage. Swimming pool very welcome.
Review 140:Spa bath in Venetian leisure centre was a little cold.
Review 141:Great location right in the centre of Rye. Peaceful night's sleep & good facilities in room - tea/coffee, tv & hot/strong shower. Full of charm & character.
Review 142:Beautiful location, not far from London so really easy for a quick break. Hotel was fantastic. Decor was lovely, clearly had been well thought out and lovingly and painstakingly undertaken. Everything just made you want to relax the whole time! Wonderful!
Review 143:House keeping a little lacking in care and attention - Making up room seemed optional as opposed to standard practice and staff lacked enthusiasm when we said we wanted room done. 2nd night it was partially done and third night some essentials in short supply.
Review 144:Excellent location, welcoming, friendly and helpful staff, very comfortable room and marvellous breakfast (charming staff here too). Car park also very conveniently located. Guests with mobility difficulties might miss the absence of a lift subject to room location.
